G.I expected a Department of Conservation (DOC) style hut when we booked a one nighter here, but it was so much more. Full kitchen, dry room, library on rock climbing and mountaineering, good bathroom facilities. The hut is a great location to explore Mt. Taranaki from. We hiked to the summit on a clear day and had a great first experience on scree.
S.You have not idea how great it feels to have a hot shower after reaching the 2518m altitude mountain peek. Not to mention you are above the clouds. The shared accommodation are bunk beds with real matrices are very good quality. The fully equipped kitchen that opens into the lounge is just a deluxe feature. And to top it all up you have a balcony where really you can host events at sun set. Just 5 stars across the board.
A.Very well equipped for a mountain lodge. Amazing views from the veranda. Hot shower after a tiring climb is the best Taranaki experience. Bedrooms are comfortable and clean.
J.All the facilities that one could hope for. Heated bunk room and living area, microwave all the dishes plates pans and electric lights. It was an excellent starting point for a climb up mount Egmont.
p.One has to be the member of Alpine club to be inside the lodge. I had the privelege of being indide, courtesy one of our veteran trekking mates. The lodge has beds, toilets and sitting space. Its clean and well maintained. It is at the right location, after the puffer and before you decide to get onto the scoria. Make yourself a tea or just rest in of the beds upstairs.

B.This lodge is on the way to the summit from north Egmont side but it is not available to the public you have to have a pin number to get in, so this place is only good for sitting on the bench seats out side
S.Beautiful spot!!! About 1 hour away from the sky field through a moderate track. Definitely worth doing!
