Perfect place to stay with my teens while on holiday. Will absolutely book again. Clean kitchen and toilets, quiet at night, walking distance to anything you would want to do in Taupo, pods were perfect for us, and very friendly staff.

A very cheap place to stay in Taupo! 190 for a couple nights!! The room was just a TV and a bed with shared bathrooms but it was just what we needed to get out and about!! Definitely see you again!

Finlays is a great hostel to stay at, the pods are awesome, power points a light and a shade to draw give you a cosy little spot to sleep. The front desk is super helpful and make your stay easy The commual areas are clean and have everything you need to cook and be comfortable. There's a cute courtyard spot to eat and chat in the sun

Couldn’t rate this hostel enough, the staff Nina and Finn were amazing! The sleeping pods were spacious, bathroom and facilities were cleaned everyday. Really friendly vibe, big communal kitchen with everything you could need , piano in a common room is a nice touch. Tons to do in Taupo, hostel can help you plan your days. Will definitely be coming back!

We stayed two weeks in this place. It was a very good experience, the place was cleaned everyday and the room was nice. The place has a very nice vibe, good music, a dog and a very friendly and helpful staff Special mention to Nina who was really nice to us, always doing one extra mile when needed.

Great location, spacious kitchen, plenty bathrooms and big yard with bean bags and hammock! Absolutely love the pod, well designed and so much better than the common bunk beds! Last but not least, Biggie the dog was the highlight of my stay! Will definitely be back :)

Great Location, super friendly staff and resident doggo 🐶. Bathrooms cleaned regularly and kitchen is spacious and tidy! Wifi strength is great! And super affordable! We love staying here 🙌🏻

Very lovely hostel with great accomadating staff 😀 Nina was very welcoming and always had a smile on her face which made you feel welcomed room's are clean with plenty of space and the kitchen is very spacious all in all one of the best hostels I have stayed at will definitely stay again 😀

We just booked last minutes We are in some 50s but I recommend to any age it is very comfortable and quite lots yonder people but respected not nosi that's all. Good price and clean

Good budget accommodation in the city center. We have really enjoyed our stay there. Good for the kids as well. Walking distance to stores and shops and even to lake front as well. The only problem was that the kitchen area was not that cleaned which should be kept tidy at all the times. I liked the idea of attached washrooms/rest rooms which are rarely found in budget accommodation though most of them are communal toilets.

I had a lovely stay here would recommend it to anyone. excellent rooms, kitchen and staff. a special mention to one staff member Amy I think her name was, she made me feel very welcomed in the hostel, and especially the town with telling me all great spots to go.

Could feel the beds springs as I tried to sleep. WiFi strength was awesome, a hot shower was welcome as it blew a gale out side. Don't know if milk was supposed to be apart of the booking, tea and coffee was supplied in the room, just no milk. Too tired to go get some. Just crashed without a cuppa. After my Damn Hot Shower. Net flicks was good. Kids were happy though said the room was cold on arrival and took awhile to warm up with the portable oil bar heater. Cuddled up, watched a kids movie, in bed till the room was warm.

Was the best place I've stayed in NZ! Very chill, super clean, comfy and beautiful hostel, for an accessible price! Staying in a POD was a MUST: you have your own space with a curtain, outlet, LED lights... it doesn't feel like your sharing a room. I stayed here over 2 months, thank you so much Finlay for this awesome experience! I'll come back as soon as I can!

It was a very good experience, very comfortable pods, all pretty clean, organised and good kitchen. The staff were friendly on sorting everything making it easy for my late arrival. The building just doesn’t have a very good noise barrier between rooms so a big family with kids can be a bit noisy but I reckon it can happen in a hostel any place :-). Thanks.

Can not state how much I enjoyed my time here, felt very much at home and almost like I was part of a family. Clean rooms and attentive staff, a very welcoming outdoor area, kitchen and lounge. Do not hesitate to book here.

My double room was fair enough. It felt more like a cabin than a backpackers. The facilities are clean and tidy. The location is great. My room was FREEZING though. No heating at all and not much bedding. I arrived after hours so would have had a miserable night but Fortunately the Warehouse is directly across the road. I bought a heater.

Thank you guys for a great stay. Had an awesome comfortable rest here. The family deluxe unit was definitely value for money . Loved that we had our own well equipped bathroom. If anything I would suggest is putting some non slip grip on the the stairs. Could be quite dangerous especially for anyone who is a bit unsteady on their feet anyway but thank you for a comfortable stay.

Room comfortable and clean, kitchen was neat, Biggie the bulldog was adorable and Lucy was the best host ! Oh wait - she was a guest / but she should be staff!

One of my favourite hostels in New Zealand. Bathrooms are clean and the kitchen gets cleaned multiple times a day too. Never had a problem to cook something cause there are enough pans, pots and stoves. The beds are comfortable and you get two pillows. Definitely would recommend to stay in the pods, they have a curtain, a lamp and an electric output so you can charge your phone or other electronic devices. Also the garden between the rooms invites to hang out and to have a chat with other guests. I met many nice people in this hostel and I think that’s the best about it. Definitely will live there again if I come back to Taupō.

Lovely friendly hostel. Stayed in 12 bed dorm, comfortable beds and the first hostel I've stayed in with TWO pillows per bed! Spacious en suite bathroom, shower was always hot and powerful. Nice outside communal area with beanbags and hammocks, perfect in the sun. Large kitchen with more than enough stoves and sinks, very clean. Lounge area has a TV with Netflix and a bookshelf. Good vibes all round, best hostel I've stayed at in NZ so far!

Pretty clean, cosy, great communal space, friendly. I stayed in the newish pod bunk bed room with privacy blind, power point, light and usb point. That room also has its own bathroom. About 10 bunks in, was about two thirds full. Only a small locker in this room anyway, not one you can out your whole pack jn. But there was room for your stuff on your bunk next to mattress. Very roomy.

Definitely the best hostel in town and one of the best that I stayed all over New Zealand. Mean yard perfect to chill out. I had the best sleep in the pod bed and enjoy the privacy that it gave me. Shot out to the receptionist and the biggyyyy 🤗

Stay one night in the pod where I had the best bed I ever had in a hostel! Good atmosphere and public facilities, clean and chills. The only disadvantage is the refrigerator is the fullest I ever seen...hard to find a place to squeeze in. That is the only reason I gave 4 star insteadof 5.

Stayed here over xmas. Was very busy, but staff were always willing to stop and help. Very social and easy to meet new people. Kitchen was very big and kept clean despite seeing people leave dishes and mess. Great location, a short walk from the lake.

We stayed here during Christmas and I have nothing but good things to say! The layout of the hostel makes it very easy for you to meet new people! Everybody was really nice, from guest to employees! Special thank to Andy, Courtney and Lucho! They made our stay very comfortable by helping us pretty much with everything that we needed (+they were just hella cool people) ! I would definatly come back here! Kitchen is nice and open 24/7, bathrooms are clean and rooms neat! Thankyou!

One of the best YHA I've stayed at. This place is lit. Spacious rooms with sufficient PowerPoint. Unlimited wifi in rooms( NO WEAK SPOT IN MY ROOM ). Great mattresses and the common bathrooms are beautiful and clean. The concept of the hostel is really modernmand cleanliness is tip top. The only thing I would change if I could, if the TV room was separated from the kitchen and dining area so that my clothes wouldn't smell of food. Other than that AMAZING HOSTEL.

I came over to New Zealand for a study aboard trip and as a group we stayed at Finlay Jacks for a few nights. This place was super cool and in a great spot. It was a couple minutes walk to the center of town and right around the corner from the market. Everyone there was very nice and was able to help us out when needed. They also have a decent amount of areas for everyone to hang out or eat dinner. They also have a dog that hangs out there. Great place!

Very friendly, accommodating, and helpful staff. Great view, especially in the morning. The kitchen and common room are spacious. The shower/bathroom are very clean and well maintained. Recently refurbished too. The staff are stand to their service and try to make your stay very pleasant and memorable.

Stay was absolutely amazing with top notch customer service. And the rooms were amazing, with pods. Highly recommend to any and everyone. 10/10 stay!!

I was there for a few days. With my Van - standing outside. (17NZD for a night in a Van) Very Clean there, nice facilities, big Kirchen. Good TV room and nice people there. Saw also the Hostel beds. Nice, clean and there Told me - good for spleeping. Also great free WiFi und directly at the town City and Lake Taupo. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The hostel itself was good. Small kitchen but big enough for the amount of people. Commun area is the same as the dining area. TV with Netflix and board games. Dorms are ok. Duvets are comfy and the beds too. However the place can get really crowded when full and there isn't enough showers and toilets. Got a bunch of dumb lads while I was staying there, drinking and partying in the dorm. Being noisy until late. No staff members said anything.. Could have been nice..

Good beds and clean facilities. Short walk to the lake and there is a supermarket around the corner! Had a great view from the balcony of our room! Curfew is not enforced so it can be a little noisy at night.

Pleasant spot to stay. Very spacious kitchen, Good common area, comfortable tv area. Nice outdoor area to sit in the sun. A little bit out of town but not inconvenienced by that. Room was an 8bed for me, good sized private locker below the bed. Shower and toilet were ensuite in my room and good size, clean and modern. Luggage storage for me was at no surcharge after checkout. I was given voucher here for a discount at a local coffee shop so ask them about local food!!

Really good facilities and a really comfy bed. Staff were helpful and available at all times. Atmosphere wasn't the best ever but that is down to the guests rather than the hostel. The kitchen is amazing.

In short: clean and comfortable! Clean beds and rooms. Clean bathrooms, no hair. Kitchen was well equipped, tidy and clean. Big common room and lounge room. Friendly personnel. Laundry room available. Located close to a cheap grocerie store and a 5-10 minute walk to the city centre/ water front. Overall we can highly recommend this place. Stayed in a double room but shared rooms looked good aswell. The friendly personnel was very helpful. Facilities in the hostel were very clean.

Good place to stay. Good facilities. 5 min walk to the lake. Lots of places to eat. You can book most events from here. Kayaking, White water rafting, Skydive, Boat trips etc... Not noisy at night. Large store one minute walk away. Just relax and chill in the hammocks.

Great affordable clean place for those short stays in Taupo esp with friends. Clean linen, comfortable beds, not so crowded as well , quite spacious rooms. Could add more complimentary toiletries though.

Very nice place. Highly recommend it. We stayed with our 2 boys and our 8 year old said Mum give it a 5 star and we all agree.

The YHA in Taupo was really nice. Big kitchen, everyone has his own bed (no bunk beds) and each room has it's own shower and toilet. This can be nice, however sometimes kinda awkward when the shower is blocked or when you have to use the toilet urgent. The plugs where really good placed as well so that everyone could charge their phones. The staff was amazing and super helpful (they helped me fixing my gopro gear) would definitely stay there again.

Booked a single bed room. Access from outside. Close to street parking. Shared bathroom with other "private" (single, double, twin?) going through door. One shower, two basins. Good for price paid, bed comfy (enough), TV in room has Netflix (so I was told, did not try), towel supplied. Shared kitchen pretty well equipped (kitchen knives in need of a sharpen!) and spacious sitting area with adjacent TV room. Staff was unable to process new YHA membership other then one year, so had to do it myself online. Disadvantages: no thermal backed curtains, so room temperature dropping significantly. (If you don't want to sleep with running supplies heater). Other than some wall hooks no storage space (not that the room size would allow for any, as your luggage has already to go somewhere) - if travelling with er pack or suitcase, you will have to climb over your luggage, using the path between entrance door and bathroom. A small wall shelf for watch, phone, glasses,... Would have been helpful. There are no hooks in the bathroom to hang your towel or toilet bag while washing yourself, no hooks in the toilet, to hang anything, so only way is either always taking your things back to room. No shelf in shower neither, nor big enough hooks to hang clothing. So everything, other than towel, needs to be piled on the floor... So heaps of room for improvement with some (cheap) little things. Also feli g weird, that you can not lock your room, when you are going to the internal shower/toilet. I guess, the reason is, the internal doors (back to the rooms) are fire doors and have to stay open for that reason... Trust your travel mates or take your valuables into the bathroom (and add them to the pile on the floor ;-) Altogether for the price paid, nice having your own room. Not sure if/how much you would hear neighbours, as I did not have any.

Decent facilities and good atmosphere although it felt slightly exclusive. One of the travellers however sustained some bed bug bites during their stay which was very unfortunate and also the refrigerator was quite rank. I have to say the name was also quite hard to remember. What was the name of the hotel again?

HIGHLY RECOMMEND Family of 4 with 2 girls (13 &6 )...was ideal for us...take your own soap...has onsite kitchen where you can cook your food or heat up...friendly atmosphere...The Warehouse is across the road and Paknsave is less than 10 mins walk away...not noisy at night or overcrowded.....

Great hostel for the price. Washer, dryer, and linen line. Wifi works splendid. The kitchen is in great shape; people actually keep it clean and they're well stocked in plates, pots and glasses.

Second time I’ve stayed here and one of my favourite hostels in nz!! Great public areas, lounge area/ kitchen, cozy & comfortable beds and free unlimited wifi.

Had a great time here with a few friends. Everything is so clean and the place has such a nice chill backpacker vibe to it. They just need to get a new gas bottle for the BBQ. All in all my favourite yha so far.

The location is great. Super close to town, the lake and other attractions like the spa park and the start of the hula falls track. Would also recommend climbing mount Tuahara as it's only a 10 minute drive to the carpark. Reception was super friendly. Biggie the dog is 10/10. The 8 bed deluxe female room was sufficient and we only really spent time in it in the night. Nice outdoor common area to enjoy the sunshine and a pretty good view of the lake and mount ruapehu.

Clean and organised accommodation. My only complaint is the TV is on the wall but has no remote and is not connected to any TV service so is therefore redundant

It was fine as Backpackers' overnight place. However, I could not find disability entrance or walkways anywhere. There are several steps up and down to the kitchen and lounge. Lighting was inadequate in dining area.

Clean room with well equipped kitchen. Friendly reception staffs. 10 - 15 mins walk to the i-Site. Quiet surroundings. Charges will be imposed for credit card payments.

The room was tidy and clean and they booked my shuttle for the Tongariro crossing and let me store my luggage there for the day. Only thing I didn't love was that the music was very loud and in the common areas there was so much noise from speakers and the tv I could still hear it with my headphones in. Fine if you like loud music, but just found it less chilled than other YHAs I've been too.

Superclean and modern dorm rooms, with brand new ensuite bathroom. Only downside is that it can get a bit cold in the rooms, but they provide you extra blankets if needed

Nice and warm. Not there long enough to get a really good appreciation for the place. Two storied wing is a bit of a rabbit warren. The staff accommodation was a bit of shock.

Great room, good area, nice environment. Staff are very easy-going as well. The backpacker is in a good location, near Pak'n Save (cheap supermarket), warehouse, 10 minutes walking til the main area.

Our group of ten had a lovely stay at Finlay Jacks! The beds are very comfortable and there was never a long wait for the toilets or showers. The kitchen was very lively and, with free parking, this location is a perfect stop for adventurers and tourists alike. The staff were incredible and resolved any issues very quickly. Definitely would stay here again!

This is an amazing backpackers, the facilities are great, the garden and kitchen are mega spacious and it’s really well located - there’s a big supermarket a 3 min walk away.

Convenient location, with a very short walk to pak n save and not much further to the rest of the town. Relaxed environment with a large amount of social space. Very comfortable beds.

12-dorm bed was cheap and OK. Kitchen and other facilities were good. Was able to meet some people and have a good evening together.

Best hostel in taupo. I stayed multiple nights in different hostels, and Finley Jacks was the best by far. The staff was awesome too, and helped me figure out everything I was trying to do.

Situated within city limits. Easily accessible to the hotspots. Great manager. Good ventilation.

A dorm room without bunk beds! And an ensuite. True luxury! But the kitchen was incredibly busy and dirty, even though it does seem to get cleaned regularly

as a hotel for Backpackers, it is not bad. the facilities is abundant. Shared kitchen, bathroom are clean and ok. The catch is that the hotel price of taupo is relatively high. Therefore , if you have a car, you miht eant to bok a hotel further but better.

Great hostel! Little loud of a night time and in early hours of morning but you expect that with a hostel.

The pods are neat. Your own USB outlet, plug and light, and you can lower a blind for privacy.
