G.What a bloody great "roadie" pub!
On the main Rd, low slung, the inside is very inviting.
Decent size inside bar, great garden bar - as always made better by a stonking day.
All the usual beer staples - Lion Red et al - on tap, pretty good looking menu.
I didn't have time for more than a plate of kumara fries but, the likes of the T Bone, leapt out at me.
Definitely be stopping in again!

J.Great small pub on the fabulous bay of plenty coast. Has a long history. Currently in the hands of a good operator. A must visit if in the area. Has garden bar, pokies, restaurant and basic accommodation. Close to a large camping ground and surf beach. Surf fishing in the area is popular. Short drive to Whakatane.
T.Quick stop in here for refreshments. It has a great biker theme going on with a Harley in the corner and fuel tanks hanging on the wall. Lots of motor bikes parked out front too on this particular day. The beer was cold and reasonably priced and the food we had was excellent.
C.Lovely accomodation. Clean comfy bed with nice light duvet.
Good shower and toilet facilities.
Fish fresh burger too die for. Fresh lettuce tomato with chrisp potato chips.
Staff so helpful.

T.Great pit stop, especially when out on the bike. Always great service, nice food and a fantastic garden bar. The pizzas look pretty good, so plan to get one on our next stop!!

D.Matata Hotel has been done up so good over the last year. Great atmosphere, good decent kai at affordable prices and clean and tidy. Will call in again sometime soon. Definitely recommend to the bikey community.

K.Hotel Matata has improved out of site since new owner took over. Friendly atmosphere, great garden bar. The hotel has been refurbished . Clean and tidy. Call in for some food and a drink. 👍👍

E.Stayed here with Family on Friday night over Waitangi Weekend. Its a popular place to stay. We had originally booked for 2 nights, but the venue was hosting a 50th Birthday and they had booked out the accommodation for Saturday night, so we could only stay the Friday night. We stayed in 3 rooms. Room 3 has a double Bed and 2 single Beds. Rooms 4 & 5 have each a Double Bed and a single Bed. Other rooms have only a double bed. Warm Snuggly Comfy Clean Beds. Also has a kettle, cups, glasses tea coffee sugar milk. It would have been a "5 STAR" rating because of the cleanliness of the rooms and the awesome staff. Not to mention the beautiful Garden Bar & secure Parking onsite out the back, But the only let down is there is only 1 toilet and 1 shower in the females shared facilities, for all the people staying in the accommodation with 8 rooms, in an older type building. The female shower has a nice smelling liquid soap dispenser in it. Towels are provided. I didnt go in the mens ones so I can't comment. The bedrooms need thier own mirrors. Only 1 of the rooms had a mirror, we had to keep sharing it. Booking.com said this place was pet friendly & to contact the venue for arrangements. They allow dogs to be tied up out the back! There are more public toilets in the Bar but were not accessible after a certain time as the accommodation is locked off from the bar after awhile. There are exit doors at each end of the hallway so safety isnt an issue just don't lock yourself out...We wanted to order steak meals at 10.45pm. Puna our lovely bar staff said the kitchen was closed but could offer Pizza. It was huge tasty and well worth it at $25 each. Offered Hawaiian, or Meat lovers or Chicken Pizza, and she was also serving patrons at the bar. Thanku Puna. The Duty Manager Rakesh is very helpful and friendly and seems to fit right in with staff and the locals. There is a jukebox and a pool table and the venue regularly hosts live bands. The Garden bar has a cute stage out the back. Will definitely be back one day.
