We had a great time during our stay! Everything is so tidy are clean, staff is amazing. The pool with salt water is good, water was clean and warm. The manager introduced us to animal family in the farm. Location is great, close to all caves and walks. Amazing experience, would highly recommend!

We stayed in the en-suite room. Right next to the pool! What a bonus! We had a dip every day. The manager was very friendly and fun to talk to. If the reception is not attended, just call the phone number and they will come help you in a minute. Everything looks clean and tidy. Kitchen is big and has everything you need for a simple meal.

Great place. Clean, beautiful, full kitchen, clean WC and showers, wifi, great salt pool, nice to grass for tents, great rooms and dinning room... What else do you need? And great price. 17 NZD per person, tent and car.And friendly staff!

An excellent place to stay and great value for money. Management is friendly and they have farm animals on site for animal lovers enjoyment.
We stayed two nights on a powered site in August, the communal facilities were nice and warm, the Wi-Fi in the lodge area was sufficient, and we could still get signal in our van but, not strong enough for online videos there, best to do that inside. We would stay here again.

Wonderful stay. Amazing location. Very easy to find. And fantastic hosts.
Manager was very helpful with great sense of humour.
If you love dogs, you're in for a treat. There is Max. And he just loves belly rubs. It has been said that he is the shadow of his master(Manager) 😜😅.
Next to the property there is a deer, who loves some pets over the fence.
Gave one start less because of the slow WiFi and very old heater.
But apart from that, its wonderful.

I loved staying here and would definitely come back! It‘s a beautiful house with a big kitchen, spacious living area, nice salt water pool, clean rooms and showers and a camp site for tents and motor homes outside. Very family friendly.
The hostel dog Max is very well-behaved and they have a mama pig with three little piglets outside that get the food scraps from the kitchen.
Definitely the perfect spot to stay if you are interested in going to the Waitomo Glowworm caves!

5 stars hostel. Very clean tidy and closer to waitomo cave. If you are going to visit glowworm cave, this is the best place to stay. For animal lovers, don't miss it!
To Dave,
CUTE manager, CRAZY NICE dog ❤️ Thank you so much.

Friendly staff. Great place. We had a tent site for two nights. Kitchen is well equipped. Hot shower. Swimming pool looks nice but we didn't have time for it.
J.
Great place to stay and awesome manager running the place, friendly and the place is spotless!

The best campsite we've stayed in so far! This place offers camping for tents, powered and unpowered vehicles, private rooms and dorm rooms. The price is reasonable for a campsite and cheap for the facilities you get. $16 per person per night for an unpowered campsite. There is a saltwater swimming pool (with noodles, tyre tubes and reclining chairs), tennis court (rackets and balls available from reception), squash wall, basketball hoop, huge lounge, verandah and kitchen, showers, laundry and toilets. There are farm animals (calves, pigs, piglets and deer) which are fed twice a day (morning and 5:30pm) and you can pet them. The owner/manager is very friendly and always has his small dog Max around. The laundry is $2 for a cold wash and you can hang your clothes outside to dry. The showers have very good pressure, very hot, clean and modern. Kitchen is equipped with everything you need - three ovens, microwaves, toasters, toastie machine, blender, slow cooker, rice cooker and much more. The lounge is big yet cosy in a kinda log cabin style with a freestanding fire. Also TV with DVDs, books and bean bags. Everything is perfectly clean (rubbish emptied every day, towels changed etc). Free wifi included (not always great but does the trick). There are plenty of places to park/pitch your tent with/without shade. I wish we could stay longer!

Excellent accommodation having return here after about 20 years. Host very friendly, hostel very clean as was the lovely salt water pool.
Recommended, value for money place to stay.
W.
What a wonderful surprise, great amenities, pool is a bonus. Kids helped feed the animals and welcoming of our furry family member too (dog). Exceptional value for money.
L.
Best place we staid during our holiday trip! Pet friendly, farm settings, amazing host! We loved it so much, definitely going back, our dog loved it even more!

The receptionist was one of the kindest people I had ever met. She was helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms were nice, and the showers were hot. There are more showers down the hall from the bathroom that took me a bit to find. There was a large bug in the kitchen, but it's a kitchen and that happens. The beds weren't the coziest, but the lounge was comfortable.

After spending a few days tramping the Pirongia Traverse section of the TA, this was a real nice place, room was comfortable, warm and dry. Staff was very friendly, very chatty with me, even gave me a ride into town to go to the pub. Good value for the price, I would stay here again and would recommend it to other travelers.
Only complaint would be when I was taking a shower, the water pump broke and the hostel didn't have water. The staff got on it right away and fixed it, so the place didnt have water for like an hour. It was an issue out of their control, they did a good job of fixing it right away.

A very well kept hostel that is always a pleasure to stay at either as a hostel or as a camp site. Even fresh coffee made in the morning. Very well equipped kitchen. Service is always great. Layout promotes conversations between guests. Pleasure staying there
G.
I liked this place very much. The common room and eating area was spacious and just a nice place to be. Kitchen area was totally sorted. Nice to see a place so well organised! And they have a swimming pool and if you come at the right time of year, you might get to feed the lambs!
D.
Bloody brilliant and beautiful hostel! Steph, the receptionist, was the most friendly and bubbly spirit I've ever encountered. Highly recommend this lovely place, especially since Waitomo is a GEM of a place to visit in NZ.
M.
Loved this place, Stephanie was one of the nicest hosts I’ve ever met. The place was really clean and neat. There’s a pool and they have a few animals (goats, pigs, calves, sheep) which you can keep with the host morning and night. I’ll definitely be coming back. 👍🏻
F.
I stayed there for weeks in December 2016. It was a really nice stay. I met so many new friends there. The staff, Dave and Stephanie, are kind and helpful. The view is so beautiful. They also have a little farm(?) next to the hostel with around 3 animals. It's worth staying.😃👍
G.
Extremely helpful receptionist, on the eccentric side but sorted transport to a cave tour and dropped us off at the I site for a bus. Very clean and tidy, good sized kitchen and comfortable rooms. Nice building with lots of common seating areas in and outside. Max the dog and farm animals made for an even better stay. Walkable to Waitomo town, 20 mins or so. Had a great stay
T.
One of the best hostels I've been to! Beautiful located farm house with a little ranch around (pigs, sheep's and a deer). The house itself looks awesome, is very clean inside and the hosts are just marvelous and friendly. Definitely come back - Stef, Dave & Max, you made my stay a pleasure :-)
R.
Wonderful hostel! Friendly, helpful and exceptionally pleasant staff, beautiful place, well equipped and clean. Lounge area has great DVDs, lots of books and games, so even a rainy day can be spent easily and enjoyably! Close to great walking trail to view glow worms! Highly recommended!!!

$38/night, powered, 2 adults. When we first arrived, I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to stay however the super friendly greeting from Steff changed my mind. Steff and Dave are great, very friendly, interesting stories and funny. It is definitely a backpacker place and some of said backpackers haven't realized their mothers aren't travelling with them so be prepared to see dishes in sinks, etc. That said, the managers are very good at calling people out and making the clean up after themselves. Yes it's awkward around the power pole, but just have a longer cord and it's fine. Our cord is fairly short but we were able to make it work fine. The amenities are clean and has one of the best set up kitchens I've used, there is nothing missing. It's great to sit outside and eat, watching the various animals. We did get woken up one night around 1am by a "pool" party but otherwise quiet place. I'd recommend and would stay again if in the area.
J.
Cozy interior space witha very homey feeling common space. The kitchen was very well supplied as well.
Host was very friendly and helpful.
Some things seemed a little behind on maintenance, but not in any way that effected use.
P.
Situated right accross the highway from Legendary black water rafting co. made this a perfect location to camp while we explored Waiting. There are 4 powered spots and a few non powered. Kitchen is well equipped and staff are friendly and helpful. I was able to use the PC here to transfer pics off the caving memory stick to my phone. The farm animals provide great entertainment while you eat your food on the deck with it's great views. It was very hot The 2 days we were here so the pool was very refreshing if a bit slimy on the bottom. The kitchen was well appointed and there were enough showers and toilets. Wifi worked well. Recommended!
L.
Great place to overnight and very close to the caves. Great TV lounge and kitchen. Thanks to Stephanie for all the helpful tipps! ( did the Tumu Tumu caving ;) )The sunrise on the terace on the couch with a coffee was one of the best on my whole trip throgh New Zeland. Allthough a short stay for only one night, I loved it there.
G.
Wish we could have stayed longer! Such a cozy vibe, beautiful countryside views, super well-equipped kitchen, and the sweetest animals! 2 min walk to the Waitomo black water rafting tours! Big shout-out to Stephanie for being a legend. Would 110% recommend this place!
E.
Really nice area for a hostel. Within walking distance of Waitomo Caves and the Black Water Rafting Company. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms, common areas and kitchen were very clean. Hammocks and pool are an added bonus!
J.
Excellent, saying they we a friendly team of people doesn't do them justice. These are excellent human being who really make you feel at home. Love all the pets. Truly home away from home. Thank you Stefanie and David you have made our stay memorable and had great laughs together .
H.
Brilliant place to stay! Eccentric staff who are very funny, entertaining and friendly! Great rooms, huge and fully functional kitchen. There is a TV and a great selection of DVDs for a rainy day or evening. 100% would recommend :)
A.
We stayed there for 4 nights and it was absolutely amazing. The kitchen is very well equipped and clean, the bathroom as well. It's located directly at the black water rafting company and the service was absolutely great! Would definitely recommend this place :)
d.
Great place to stay & relax. Chance to feed the baby lambs / calves.
Friendly staff with great ideas about local walks / places to eat.
Luna & Max ( staff pet dogs ) are funny playing with each other.
Great place to stay whilst visiting Waitomo Caves.
S.
The small dog fetched us from our room in time to feed the baby goat. Excellent service
S.
Great place. Conveniently located near the waitomo caves. Not too far from a mart to buy groceries. Has a fully furnished clean kitchen. the owner is eccentric (like a hobbit), funny and friendly nonetheless. There are also some animals at the back you can feed.
D.
We showed up at 8:30 (office closed at 8) and called. They came down and let us stay! Thank you. There is a TV in the common area with about a million movies. Would recommend to anyone who wants to have a short ride to see the Glow Worms. Rooms were clean - we got our own room that night.
A.
Nothing special about this place at all really, it's cheaper than most of the Hostals on offer but as there's not that much competition, they can get away with a lower standard of accommodation.
The dorm rooms are incredibly small and fit 3 bunk beds... You could literally touch the other person in bed if you wanted to, I get the need to want to make as much money as possible, but it's not that desirable for clientele.
The WiFi is paid (30 mins free) which is really bizarre in this day and age so that's a definitely pain in the butt.
There are plenty of areas for relaxation which is great and you can even relax outside.
Showers and toilets are similar to those found in swimming pools or high schools... Nothing great, but still function well (practical).
Overall, it was an OK stay, just nothing amazing.

Kindly sorted us out so late a night, after a unamed hotel on the hill couldn't pick up the phone. Nice facilities, rooms and people. Animals (pigs, lambs, sheep, calf's, goats) a plenty all around. Ideally located for the black water rafting. Thanks Juno
C.
Super friendly staff, big kitchen, lots of room and camping. When staying here head for the hike next just 5 min away at the caves. On the first 100+ meters of track there are glowworms all over the place. Magical experience without the hoards of tourists.
J.
What a great hostel. I stayed in here in my tent in the backyard which also has a power junction for camper vans. They have a large, cosy living room and a big kitchen and also a swimming pool and some farm animals. Everything is clean and well maintained. The guy that works there is a great host and very funny. It's right across the street from the Blackwater Rafting company and just a few minutes drive from the glowworm caves and Roselands (all you can eat buffet, clay shooting and more). They can arrange free pickup and return to Roselands if you want to dine there (all you can eat buffet for only $10). There's free Wi-Fi but it's only an half hour a day. They also have paid Wi-Fi).
P.
Caravan parked, was cool. Nice friendly host. Wishes I could have stayed longer.
J.
Stephanie is amazing. So friendly to TA hiker. Really enjoy my day here. Having good rest after big storm. Highly recommend.
K.
Stayed here for one night, came late so had to call the owners and they came in 10mins. Room was decent size and kitchen facilities are good. They also have tv, cards and board games where one can just play after tiring day. Please is opposite to black river rafting office so you can walk to your tour. Few kms up road to actual cave.
R.
Last minute booking (the night before I got there) and I only stayed one night in a 6 bunk dorm.
I have too say it was the cosiest most homley hostel I have ever stayed in with the friendliest member of staff I have every met. (Unfortunately i can't remember her name)
Will definitely stay again if I'm in the neighbourhood.
S.
Loud! People up talking both inside and outside past 2am. Campsites are on the main road. The staff was very nice and the kitchen was great and well stocked.
T.
Great hostel. Really close to a great glow worm cave. Staff member was super nice and informative and there long hours. Sweet pool area for sunny weather.
L.
Very good vibe, very close to nature. They even have goats, pigs Anna other animals which you can feed during their feeding time. Very cool!
J.

Cheap camping at 17 bucks in a beautiful place. Nice clean hostel with a very hardworking warden who had some really helpful tips for places to visit :) would stay again
M.
Wonderful place, very friendly staff and great facilities (even a pool!). You can stay anywhere, and there is no fixed checkout time. We paid $17 pppn for a tentsite.
T.
Super super friendly lady! Good communal facility. We campervaned there for power. No issues. Lovely hot water showers!
J.
Great place to stay if planning on doing caving. It was a little crowded but at least not loud. Room was nice and cosy. Bathrooms are shared. Recommended if looking for somewhere cheap.

Very elegant hostel. Excellent service
They have arranged a buffet dinner with a restaurant. It is just rice, potato and a stew. I would not do it.
