Reviews of The Setup on Manners Serviced Apartments - Wellington

The room and halls are all clean and tidy although does have a strange layout. Our room had one tiny window facing another building which was a bit of a disappointment. The outdoor balcony was good but could do with some maintenance. Location was ideal for a tourist who plans on walking around. All the tourist attractions were ~5min walk away. If you're on a tight budget and want somewhere nice to stay in the inner city these rooms are ideal.
K.
The air conditioner was noisy. Despite making a prior reservation, I was given a temporary room When I first arrived and I had to check out at 10am and then check back in at 2pm on the first day! Not good! The front desk obviously did not pay attention to my emails or booking details.
But the rooms were clean, the little kitchen functional, the beds, linen, and toilet clean.
Close to banks, shops, and all necessary services. The staff and management were very helpful.
Nice and affordable. I will be staying again.

If you're staying for short periods in Wellington on a budget this place has some things going for it:
1. It's priced very well. Usually the cheapest option
2. It's very central. Great of you're located in city centre
3. The rooms don't back on to a busy street like many other hotels in this price bracket. It's quiet and thus possible to get a good sleep.
4. Although basic the rooms are clean and tidy.
Is it a nice hotel: no. Is it an excellent budget option if you're just passing through: yes.
M.
The place is comfortable tidy and has a nice toilet shower facility in the studio room with a great kitchenette but there are no windows and the air-conditioning is loud making it difficult to sleep. Staff friendly and accommodating. For the money good value if you you can sleep with earplugs or don't need air-conditioning.
L.
I've been here for 3 days with my girlfriend. Our room was very tidy and clean. We had our own bathroom, with was also comfortable and spakling. Yes, we realized the air conditioner, but didn't disturbed us. Great location, just a few steps to supermarket, Cuba street and harbour.
The room itself had no windows but a curtain, which was kinda funny
T.
Good clean rooms with good facilities for what you pay. Excellent location for nightlife, restaurants and access to harbour and public transport. Most rooms do not have windows and can be very hot for 6 months of the year with noisy ineffective air conditioning so if you like a cool room probably not the best place for a good sleep (I've stayed here 10 or so nights over 4 months).
H.
The room was small, but clean. They advertise cooking facilities, which were ok. Then they say you will be charged more for cleaning if you cook smelly food! Also they advise you that the smoke detector is very sensitive & if the fire services arrive you will be fined $ 1000. So we cooked with the AC & all the fans on.
The duvet was stained, a clean sheet over the duvet doesn't make it clean. Probably need a duvet cover.
Staff were great, helpful & friendly.
m.
Decent spot that's centrally located in Wellington. The room was fairly basic, but it was comfortable and clean. The room did have a small kitchenette which was a nice touch. If you're not going to be spending much time in your room, this place is a good spot.
M.
I was staying at a Queen Studio. It was a cozy, decently sized space with a private bathroom, and a kitchenette (a selection of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and milk included, however, no cooking oil, salt, or spices provided). There was Sky TV (yay), a heater (a must for the mid-winter stay), and AC. The room was extra clean (the cleaners were in daily), and the staff were friendly and helpful. Location - superb! To sum it up - great value for money, definitely would stay at the Setup again.
L.
Rooms are small.
It's a converted apartment block and the walls are paper thin, no proper windows inside.
The air conditioners are large individual noisy units in the rooms. You cannot sleep at night with these running
There is next to no airflow in the rooms causing the temperature to be extreme.
The dedicated car park has a huge ramp in the middle that will bottom out on everything thats not a four wheel drive.
If a top location is your priority then this is ideal.
If you need good sleep and somewhere to crash after a day/night in the city give it a miss.
D.
Convenient and budget accommodation. As mentioned here by other travelers, the room I had was just above a major bus stop and so was quite noisy. The hotel provides ear plugs which was appreciated. It is amazing how much they can cram into a small room, but I wouldn't want to do much cooking. The wifi is provided free but with a limit. Recommended based on price and was convenient to where I was going each day.
m.
Super Convincent, especially for being so close to everything in the CBD, but was super hard to find 😤 The halls narrow and rooms are small, strangely laid out but still tidy. Affordable place to stay. However, the parking for the apartments were "full/unavailable" which paying for parking was costly 😑
R.
Small room in centre of building. Comfortable bed, good shower, clean. Sky TV. Noisy, could hear 2 people snoring, but ear plugs provided. Ventilation poor, noisy in-room aircond machine with ugly pipe as after thought. Limited but adequate cooking facilities for 1 person. Value for money in it's location. I suspect there would be a very big problem in a fire, I never found the stairs, signage difficult, it is a rabbit Warren. I'd go again.
C.
Small and dinky. My room had a single bed... But it had all the conveniences. Aircon, which was a bit noisy, a fan, also noisy. Definitely needed during my summer stay otherwise i would of cooked. The bathroom was clean. What more do you need for a central stay in Welly. Staff were polite and helpful also. Good for a short stay but not for a long one, just due to the rooms being so pokey.
J.
Stayed here in September 2015 for a night. Love the contemporary design of the hotel, everything is new and clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Stone throw away from shopping area, restaurants, convenient stores and tourist attractions. There's a night market just 2 minutes away from the hotel at Cuba Street.
However, staying lower floors could be pretty noisy at night. There was no cloth hangers in the room and there was no place to hang our clothes. It would be good if there is washing liquid in the kitchen for us to clean the plates and utensils after used.
L.
When we arrived we got shocked when saw the building from outside and also the parking area etc. But then reception was a very beautiful polite helpful lady, named "Mania" that helped with our problems with our room and parking a lot.
The Room, sheets, quilt, bathroom, towels and kitchen stuff are very clean. Perfect location, easily accessible to almost every where. I really enjoyed staying in setup on manner.
B.
AMAZING location downtown Wellington and that's the best selling point. The room we had didn't have a window (but really, is it that important?), there was an air filter/air conditioning/heating, parking on reservation. The staff was really, really nice, too. I give it 4 stars though because, even though it was a lovely experience, it felt as if they could do better—they limit you to 4G of Wi-Fi per stay. Not a huge deal, but it's kind of like, come on guys. Basically, if the hotel weren't located where it is, they would have to work harder to keep it updated and less restrictions. You'll enjoy your stay, especially if you're there for 1-3 nights.
M.
Very average cheap accommodation. Room had no windows which meant it needed a loud ventilation system. In room information includes a price list for destruction of each item in the room - which tells you a lot about the type of place. Acceptable if you're just after a place to sleep and no more.
S.
Our room was double booked despite us paying in advance, and the lady who told us didn't fix it, which was stressful. Luckily another reception lady sorted it at 6.30 pm, before the other guests arrived. Neighbours were terribly noisy. Room was hot, with noisy cooling system. Bed was comfy. Housekeeping removed all but one bath towel and didn't replace. Same lady from reception found us linen.
I.
The room was clean and had all the facilities and equipment we needed for our week long stay. Since we came in summer, the room was a bit stuffy in the afternoon and even with the fan provided, it was very warm at night. The closest bus stop is not even 200 meters away and there are plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes around. We enjoyed our stay.
A.
Great location, has everything you need, sleeping place, mini kitchen with Microwave and fridge and toilet and shower. It was not that great value for money the week I was there as it was the week of WOW, and all accommodation goes through the roof, but it was clean. The only thing I did have a concern with was. . I had left my iPhone charger in the room and called up the next day and no - one had seen it.. 😢
J.
Budget accomodation that has all the amenities needed for an overnight stay. Small cosy rooms that are clean and tidy. Reception are very helpful. Only concern was the 33 degree temperature of the room that was impossible to cool with the air conditioning failing to work as the air filters hadn’t been cleaned.
M.
Room was good for the price, had everything you'd need. Problem was that being an internal room, there was no window and the building itself does not seem to have internal air conditioning, so the room got hot very quickly. There was an air conditioner in the room, but it was insanely loud and impossible to sleep around
P.
It's a rabbit warren with all kinds of weird people inside. Reception is ok, a bit hard to find amongst the restaurants and shops on Manners Street.
The rooms themselves are ok. Small, often not that well lit and noisy, but with all the basics required for a short term stay, including kitchens and USB wall chargers.
The location is convenient, right in the middle of town and handy to pretty much everything.
A.
Everything provided: small kitchenette, bathroom, wifi, Sky TV and laundry facilities and access to a gym. They make their ‘expectations’ known, such as don’t leave dirty dishes or cooking odours behind or you’ll get charged, including a list of all their equipment with a price list in case people help themselves! The desk is manned, except when staff go on their lunch breaks, and I’ve seen customers waiting around to check in until the ‘return’ time left on the door. Basically hotel-like stay for reasonable price and a high level of cleanliness and amenities provided.
T.
Very good customer service at the reception.
Keep in mind that it use to be student apartments in the past (completely renovated) so do not expect big rooms.
I was personally very happy with everything, the room was clean including the small kitchen and bathroom.
The bed mattress and sheets were impeccable.
A internet wifi voucher is given when checking in and SkyTv is available in the room.
The room also has an air conditioner and a heater which can be very useful in Wellington.
Would recommend to anyone.
M.
Clean and relatively comfortable. Some rooms have no real windows to outside which can be bit odd, also my room was extremely hot even with the small aircon unit running. Great location and pretty good value, overall
H.
Perfect for me as a single guy not looking to entertain or impress anybody. All mod cons including a workable kitchen and a fridge with a freezer compartment. Clean, quiet and we'll serviced with parking available for a modest additional cost. Central CBD and close to lots of eateries, pubs etc. Highly recommended.
T.
Our stay was very good. I would love to book same room again next time. Very pleasant staff at reception which creates the right mood for your visit. I didn't have a car so it was just so perfectly located for walking, buses, taxis etc. Great value for money.
G.
Air conditioning noisy. Clean room and good location. Not great customer service in terms of getting hold of reception on the phone. Expect no contact from them after message is left for them to call you back. After hours check in process different to what they advertise on website. Price is reasonable.
R.
Pretty good place to stay. Bed was nice, room was tidy. Bathroom was good.
Only problem was the WiFi allowance of 500mb per day between 2 people doesn't allow much in the way of internet use.
Picture is a cool Mario my partner made on the baggage cage ;)
L.
Rooms can be small and windowless but there is free wifi, laundry facilities, sky tv, your own bathroom etc. Great if you are only in in the evenings. Exactly what I needed when I first moved to Welly.
A.
Staff members are very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The beds are quite comfortable, the kitchenette is quite stocked and their bathroom is well stocked and clean. Unfortunately their wardrobe is like a cage: although aesthetically pleasing if your cook anything the smell might catch on to your clothes. Their internet provider is also very frustrating, and the way they count your data usage is also very dubious. However, this is quite mitigated with the friendliness and willingness of the reception team to help you to have a pleasant and enjoyable stay. The location is also very good: plenty of restaurant just outside of the building: McDonald's, Burger King, Abrakebabra, Punjabi Paratha, and best of them: Crepes a go go. A few meters away, you'll find the Saturday night market, and Cuba St. If you go a bit further you'll find several sushi places including Sushi Bi.
M.
Very friendly staff, comfortable bed and clean rooms. However rated down as it is a little confusing to arrive at if you're driving, you're charged an extra $20 per day if you'd like to park whilst you're staying and the room is quite small.
A.
Great location. 5 minute walk from Cuba Street and all the wonderful cafes and resturants e.g. Ombra, Pickled pies and Fidels Cafe. 10 -15 minute walk to Te Papa, National Library snd water front.
However, rooms are stuffy & lacknatural light. Some issues with cleanliness with blocked sink full of hair as well as briken plug socket & poor air conditioning unit that made the room hotter.
Requested a room upgrade to balcony room with an window that opens. They were happy to support this request along with 5% refund.
Price $$. - Request balcony room.
T.
Stay away from rooms with a window facing a wall with no daylight. The room was quite small and lacking some of the usual amenities such as a clock and dish cloth for cleaning the sink. In fact weather was terrible during our stay but we certainly did what we had to do without getting too wet.
T.
I love the location. The room was perfect for our family of. Excellent in amongst the shops, food shops every wherethat was the best. All the staff were polite and friendly and my room was serviced everyday if I wanted. Very embarrassing for the lady at the desk and for us.
T.
Excellent central city location and at a great affordable rate. Room was just what we needed in a convenient location which was the primary reason for choosing this place. Great transport options really near by and the fact that there was a full sky service was the icing on the cake.
C.
Small rooms but they were nice and clean. The staff were very nice and incredibly accommodating and helpful. Perfect for travelers that just need a place to sleep!
C.
This place is well located, and in a great downtown location. However, the facilities are basic and the nights that I stayed there were quite noisy with late night construction and loud voices coming from the adjacent carpark in the middle of the night. As a place to sleep it's ok, but it's not somewhere you'd go for a getaway.
J.
Great location meaning I could walk everywhere. Everything I required for my four night stay. Microwave could have been a lot lower and not seven feet high. All in all a great central hotel for good price.
Jan Ross Tenterfield Australia
J.
U pay for what you get. Small office like room. Terrible lighting, fluorescent ceiling light that u would find in an office space. No windows. Smelt gross, the sheets smelt bad too. Wouldn't go there again but for a one night stay it's a place to sleep.
T.
I'd read a few mixed reviews of this place so was a bit unsure as to what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. All amenities were working and the room itself was spacious enough for me and my friend. Setup is situated very close to all of the city centre and waterfront.
S.
Was disappointed by the stains all over the linens and the heat fluctuated in the room between too cold and too hot to sleep in. Otherwise nice little room with comfortable furnishings. But the linens were truly disgusting. Huge disappointment there.
M.
Good standard room. Just would have enjoyed more ventilation the 1 small window in our room opened to no where and air conditioning was loud and ineffective. Roo. Felt very stuffy.
M.
The setup on Manners st. Is in the middle of the shopping area of Wellington. The rooms are clean but small. The little kitchen is functional but there is no space to eat. The Wi-Fi is good. The AC is running all the time, so there is no silence during sleep.
Laundry for 3$ (+2$ washing powder).
The reception is very friendly and helps by questions about the city and tours.
v.
Having stayed in many Hotels around the world I would usually give this one a 1 or 2 star for that price. But in New Zealand you either have to be rich or stay in a hostel. Mid price range hotels are all really bad. And this one wasnt too bad copared to others.. f.ex. clean bed and aircon and alright kitchen utensils and storage. So 3 stars out of 5 for midrange price NZ apartments.
S.
Central position .Clean fresh towels everyday. WiFi good but small window and noisy in room. Small kitchen ok for snacks. Microwave 2 ring cooker and fridge. Overall good value
A.
Rooms are obviously small but they have everything you need for a few days. Staff is very friendly. Location is just perfect, walking distance from main Wellington attractions and pubs.
A.
A nice place to lay your head. Nothing fancy, which is just what you want when you're touring on a budget. You'll spend all your time out and seeing sights, so you'll come back late, collapse into a comfy bed, and wake up to an en-suite shower, minimal cooking facilities and go off to do it all again - RIGHT in the middle of the city. Ideal.
C.
The room and facilities are clean and well presented and check-in and out was easy. I had some difficulty with the lift not going to the carpark, but it wasn't a long walk up the stairs.
d.
Okay backpackers hotel in a good location. I did write ahead and ask that they dont keep the
fridge running to keep a handfull of uht milk in plastic pods in my room. They didnt respond to the email and...the blimmin fridge was overheating a small room for a handful of pods
S.
Ok for overnight stay. Surprised that we were given a room with no windows. Room was not ventilating properly. Good thong is that it is rigtht bang in the middle of CBD and close all the shops and night life.
A.
Best deal in Wellington - simple straight forward product in a great location at an unbeatable price. Somewhere easy to crash if you've an event in town or touring the city.
I found the units to be immaculate, and well appointed and presented. For the price and the location, zero complaints!
J.
Overall the place was nice. The particular room that I was in was quite stuffy because it didn't really have a window and the aircon was very loud
J.
Stuffy small room, clean sheets, shower OK, no frills, OK for just sleeping except something upstairs above room sounding like distant thunder on and off for most of the night and early morning. Very central.
b.
+ .
In the city center.
Lift
Wifi
Mattress
- .
Small room
No air circulation ( very dry with heater )
Kitchen, but can get fine if the room smells food, really ?
No real windows
C.
Quite expensive for what you get. Bear in mind some rooms do not have windows. Parking is $20 a day on top of stay. Wifi was 'free', but had to get tokens from reception on a few occasions.
B.
Very nice. Clean and the service provided excellent. Also very central and walking distance to most facilities. Would stay there again and recommend accommodation to anyone.
D.
Above average backpackers style accommodation with lower prices than usual. Right in the middle of Wellington CBD so it's easy to access and convenient to get around the city.
C.
Great value for money, central to everywhere, clean and had everything I needed all in my own room. Would gladly stay here when next visiting.
s.
Rooms are clean and comfortable for us to stay , we get everything in our room, reasonable price, great location, we love our stay in the manners hotel
C.
Good room good area. Extreme paranoia about damaging anything as their rules are strict. Staff..... yea well it's cheap accommodation
J.
really good location then my rooms are pretty much good for that price everything in my room what i needed for my stay , and i was there 3 days i got a good experience , room service persons are very friendly with me
Y.
Clean Tidy Rooms. Hallway carpet needs replacing mega stains. Staff friendly. Great location. Basic full service amenities.
a.
Nice room and clean they also have mini kitchen where you can cook, center of the city, close to te papa museum and shops, accessible to buses, restaurants, shops and tourist attraction
A.
Modest inexpensive inner city accommodation. Clean and with all expected amenities, this is a convenient over-nighter if you're in town for a show or meal.
M.
Great place, very central to the city. Awesome use of space including a queen bed, 2 burner stove, microwave and foxtel including the movie channels.
p.
Central city, clean and easy to use. Also well priced for a small studio with ensuite. Book early and ask for a car park, altho there is a Wilson behind.
C.
Good location, convenient, clean and modern. Our room was small but had everything we needed.
R.
Little room and the air conditioning is more warm than cold. It is what it is and the bed was comfortable.
X.
Great location and nice rooms. Stayed here 3 times. I think I’ll probably stay here again next time when I’m in Wellington.
A.
Well presented accommodation. The Queen room I was in had 2 hot plates, a microwave and a kettle.
S.
Lady at service was great but rooms very budget and not having windows doent help. Location is good.
J.
Good middle of the road value for money place. Excellent location, good bed but no bells or whistles, staff friendly processes streamlined.
R.
Good location, ok kitchen and shower, good parking, effective reception, noisy at street side because of busses, we had cold shower one day.
g.
Great central locatin and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Rooms were great. Would stay here again.
P.
Good place to stay near the city but rooms need a lot of improvements and Hsk needs to step up.
N.
Room decent. Walls (functionally) made of paper. Some rooms have no windows to the outside, which is a bit weird.
R.
Clean room - great budget option. No natural light and no real workspace for a budget business traveller.
R.
For the location, and style of hotel, a really good price. Clean, and comfortable. Like a posh hostel.
N.
Tidy, efficient and comfortable. But if you have any claustrophobic tendencies, make sure you get a room with a window!
P.
Had a great stay. Conveniently located close to food shops and 10 minute scenic walk to Tepapa.
I.
Great value and well located and they even give you earplugs to help you get a good sleep in central Wellington
v.

R.
Second stay here, basic, clean, cosy and accessible on the main routes between the airport and the train station.
D.
Very basic but right in the heart of Wellington. Small room but the bed was comfortable.
T.
pros: very good location. clean.
cons: thin walls, no windows, only one chair in the double room.
K.
Great location. Everything is in walking distance. Very clean and tidy. Friendly staff.
M.
Very nice place, I give it 4* only because there is no natural light in the room.
c.
1st day room is fine! Check out and check in another room too small.

(Translated) Well. It is in the city center, it is accessible in price, and the model is not bad. After, do not look for luxury, even if it wants to give modern art, the equipment is rather poor, and the space is limited. Average cleanliness, very soft beds ... But it's in the city center and it's not expensive.
(Original)
Bon.

(Translated) Great location (super central !!!), parking possibilities but better book it because they have too much availability. Room tiny and with false window but still clean. Suitable right for single person or a couple max x x one night .. Not more ..

(Translated) I was lucky enough to stay at this hotel during my trip to Wellington, New Zealand. Like the beautiful Wellington, this hotel has also left a deep impression on me. Now I still remember the following:
1. There is a small kitchen in the corner of the room, which is different from the traditional kitchen, and it is very convenient to use. "The sparrow is small and complete," and it feels more emotional in the room.
2. Free WiFi and very fast speed, I value this very much, because although I am traveling abroad, I still have to keep in touch with domestic companies and family members through the Internet.
3. I also like the shared balcony. I can feel the beautiful sunshine of Wellington with my girlfriend.
4. The room itself is not big, but it is completely enough for me and my girlfriend, and it is very comfortable.
5. If there is a chance to return to Wellington in the future, I will definitely book this hotel. Highly recommended! ! !
