Staff were lovely, room was clean, showers were decent. I didn’t use the kitchen facilities but they looked good. They had secure parking which is why I stayed here. There was quite a lot of partying and smoking going on outside the building until the wee hours of the morning, which I am not sure how much they can control that. People were just having a good time and this is a hostel in the cbd so I didn’t expect it to be an oasis if serenity. I’d put it in the okay category and will probably try somewhere else next time I’m in Wellington as I’m a fairly mellow traveler 👍
T.
Not too bad, very different from other Backpacking places I've stayed at. Staff are down to earth and quote a happy bunch. Central district just a skip, hop and scooter distance away hahaha
c.
Awesome hostel one of the best in the country. Would recommend too anyone staying in Wellington for a short or long time. Just ask Uncle Billy. Kia kaha
M.
Stayed here for a few nights, would highly recommend staff were nice and all the facilities were clean and good.
R.
Best backpacker in Wellington hands down! The perfect mix between a party hostel and a chill one!
g.
No complaints staying here. I booked a room & have had a good sleep every night & relative privacy. Dunno what the dorms are like but my bed is super comfy.
M.
Friendly reception, staff is sometimes multilingual. Various kitchens in every floor, awesome lounge with seats, tv, board games and heaps of books. The reception area has a table pool, and other table games. Bike rental is available at the front desk as well. Usually clean and tidy. Noise is common and not an issue, as everyone should know these hostel are mostly for young people and some are noisy, as they are supposed to be. Great location, near supermarkets, Cuba Street and other amenities.
J.
Good cheap place. Showers/toilets can get a little dirty but that's too be expected, they get cleaned twice a day. As long as you get half decent roommates a good night's sleep is completely possible as well. Perfect location. Great value for money I'd say
R.
Absolutely amazing backpacker
Third stay there excellent environment
Staff are friendly helpful and professional
The facilities incluiding the lounges and facilities kept very clean.
People are friendly great place to meet new friends
J.
Nice hostel with a kitchen on each floor. There is a good sized entertainment room with a large screen and sofas. A massive bookshelf with a great selection. The rooms are clean and the beds are sturdy but a serious lack of PowerPoints in the rooms. There is some storage in the rooms as they are quite small.
A.
Mixed feelings about this place. Rooms were ok but included a kettle and free coffee and tea. Reception was nice and helpful. Bathrooms were also pretty good. During our one-night stay there there was outstanding levels of noise from construction outside up until midnight. They have a lot of amenities though which is cool.
F.
Overall a good place to say for the price.
Location was good, close to many shops, restaurants, and bars. They had tons of tourist information and you are able to rent bikes there for an affordable price. They also had a pool table and foosball table in the main area. We used the laundry services which worked well. One washer machine was broken and they had someone to come and fix it right away. Bed was comfortable. Shared areas such as bathroom, kitchen, and dining room were clean. Kitchen had plenty of appliances to use to make your own meals.
They do not have an air conditioner but they do have fans.
F.
Such good hostel in the Wellington downtown, close to everything. Pretty good accommodations and really nice location. Good rooms price and good staff. As a funny thing I’d to evacuate the hostel due a forgotten pan over the hob. Safety measures and alarms worked perfectly.
D.
I have stayed at Trek a couple different times now and absolutely love it. The community and atmosphere are so welcoming. The staff are very helpful and laid back. Each floor has its own kitchen and bathrooms. There was a mix up with a reservation I made, but Rayssa handled it so professionally and swiftly that the stress disappeared faster then it appeared. I would highly recommend staying here while you visit Wellington.
H.
Amazing hostel! This is the best hostel I have stayed at in over 4 years, with amazingly kind staff, large rooms and a great community, you have to stay there if you're thinking about it!
L.
Good location and good value for money considering it is Wellington, where it is tricky to find something for budget stay. Many events in hostel, lockers in rooms, good wifi. Cleanliness in toilets can be improved. I stayed on third floor, where 4-5 rooms shared 2 toilets as third one was under reconstruction and it can get busy on mornings. Positive that in room there was power outlets by each bunk bed.
L.
I have been staying at trek for the past 3 months and hands down I have never stayed in such a welcoming and friendly place. The atmosphere is second to none. All the reception staff are outstanding and super accommodating. The cleaners do a fantastic job in making everyone’s stay clean and fresh. They have fun activities throughout the week that are fitting for all. A hostel that has become a home. A**
J.
Great hostel. Loads of kitchens and storage space for food. Really clean and constantly cleaned throughout the day. Stayed until 9pm on day of checkout to catch a flight and they let me use facilities. Really good value for money.
J.
I stayed here for about a week. It was clean and the staff was friendly. It's in a great location and many of the attractions are walkable. I really enjoyed the Sunday night cookout and the Monday movie night. The room had a heater which was a nice extra. I stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm and most of my roommates were friendly. It can get noisy even late at night, but I still enjoyed my stay. Also, I liked that the rooms had lockers.
M.
Awesome place to stay, that is close by to everything you need, great coffee, amazing night life, supermarket and a 5minutes walk to Cuba St . The staff are very inviting and lovely. The best backpackers in Wellington.
I.
It has been 5months and counting since living in Trek as a long-termer and I could not have asked for a better place. Surrounded by good people that become your friends, and excellent staff who cares. The facilities are functional, kitchen on every coloured section, bathrooms are cleaned multiplied times a day, bedsheets and comforters and towels regularly changed!
Feels like home away from home.
E.
Pros:
Great location
Solid facilities Very secure Unlimited free WiFi, and it works everywhere I've been Friendly staff Clean Cons: Too hot in the rooms, especially on the top floors. Needs a fan or some kind of air circulation. Not the most comfortable beds, and they're a little noisy. Since your key only gets you into your floor, it can be hard to meet people staying in other areas. Toilet / shower are the same room with only a curtain in between, so bathroom floors are always wet. Pretty strict about no alcohol after 11pm. Power outlets are very far away from some beds.
r.
As far as hostel goes in Wellington, I would definitely recommend this place. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm and the beds were sturdy and QUIET (no creaking with wooden bunks), the mattresses and pillows comfortable and the room was reasonably spacious with storage. There’s also what I thought to be a decent amount of bathrooms on each floor and they also had kitchen on each floors which I found very handy and in my 2 week stay there, I almost had the kitchen to myself every time I cooked (which was 2-3 times depending on when I had work). The kitchen’s are slightly low on utensils but I had no issues as no one ever cooked when I did (luckily). The only down side for me would probably the fact that the kitchen only started functioning at 6:30am (as I work early) and the small laundry room which has only two sets of washer and dryer (cheap $2 wash though)! Oh and if I’m being really fussy, the lack of plugs in rooms! Parking is also a bit hefty at $25 a night but it is very secure as it is part of the apartment complex next door! I would still go as far to say that I would happily pay the price they charge to stay at this hostel, staff are also lovely and everything and everywhere is regular cleaned!
B.
Your average hostel of a decent quality. The staff is friendly, and the hostel is designed with good intentions. I did feel that the guests staying there during my stay were grouped up, inconsiderate, and not tidy at all. Location is great though, and the 11 PM curfew is quite well enforced.
J.
Just finished a 5 day stay at Trek Gobal Wellington. I have stayed in many backpackers across NZ south island and north island and this was by far the best. Every employee from the reception to the cleaning staff were genuinely friendly and so helpful. The Hostel was very clean and hygienic. The culture within the hostel, amongst the guests was great. Thank you Trek global for adding so much value to my Wellington experience, I will definitely be back.
C.
The staff are so nice and friendly, I got to the hostel at 7 am after an overnight bus from Auckland and the guy at the desk checked me in early because the bed was available in the room. such great customer service there. Also, the place is so clean, I was amazed!
The beds are comfy, the kitchens so clean, the lining on the beds are fresh for you and not over used and worn. Great incentives - eg. free pasta provided on Mondays, soup on Tuesdays, activities and stuff provided and offered some days of the week. great central location, close to EVERYTHING. unlimited WiFi at fast speed. well equipped kitchen. honestly, such a great stay. the lounge is comfy and the people are so nice - great diversity of travelers. the only thing which was a teeny bit frustrating was there was 3 bathrooms between about 10 dorm rooms (the toilets aren't separate to the shower unfortunately). But the pro's definitely outweigh this. Great for short stays and i was comfortable with long term too.
I would offer some ideas of improvement though: knives in the kitchen need to be sharpened or replaced.
S.
Trek was my home for 5 months in Wellington! They clean everything daily which was great, have private showers/bathrooms, staff are very friendly and accommodating. There are often free soup/mulled wine nights and monthly events. I met many people staying here long term, which is what made it so special and like a family, and made many new friendships. There are mostly younger people here, under 35ish. I would highly recommend it for anyone, but especially if you are planning to stay in Wellington long term and want to meet some awesome people. The only downside is it makes it terribly hard to leave
J.
Our Room was really great and extraordinarily cheap if you book for a weekly price (15$ for a three bed room for each person). About 8 Rooms share one kitchen which is really close to the rooms. The room was clean and quite big, there were 4 lockers as well as a table and a nighttable for 1 bed. The WiFi was ok, sometimes a bit slow but nothing terrible. You can rent bikes directly at the reception (but the saddles were really uncomfortable). Unfortunately, the bathrooms were not really great: The toilets were missing the cover or had loose screws, and one of the showers had basically no showerhead. Anyway, all in all it was a nice week and i can recommend this hostel for a stay.
A.
Amazing people, staff and atmosphere. Been my home for 8 months.
J.
Five of us stayed in a 6 person room. Lucky to have the room to ourselves. It was clean and quite a nice place. The bathrooms are shared so it was a bit of a wait to use. Our floor was quite full and unfortunately loud with a lot of young people constantly banging doors and walking and talking up and down the hallways. Fine for just one night stay however due to us leaving before check out we never got our deposit back you need to pay when checking in.
A.
Great place. I took the twin Sharing rooms. Unlimited wifi, unlike other backpackers. Very convenient place. Free Tuesday soups. Free Coffee and tea. Couldn't ask for anything less. Rooms are nice and clean. And the staff is very friendly and helpful as well. Totally recommend to everyone.
M.
The hotel is welcoming and well located, it offers many services, several kitchens, a lounge with a TV, a games area, computers and laundry. The housekeeping staff is very involved with the guest, the hostel is clean and cleaned every day, 3 times a day in the bathrooms and kitchens. The hostel offers services every week for the change of sheets. It is a very pleasant place to live there a few days where long term...
D.
I've been spending the last few months with this hostel while I've been in Wellington. Between the awesome staff, the facilities, and the rad people I've been meeting I must say it's the best hostel I've stayed at. They hold events and they share so much useful information about the city.
When I reminisce about New Zealand a lot of my good memories will come from the ones that I've made here.
Thanks yall.
M.
The staff are friendly and have a excellent policy on noise control. It is an opportunity to meet new people. Just try and ensure you are not in yellow or the smaller dorm rooms with smaller kitchens.
T.
The hostel is well located in the city center. The staff working there is very nice (many backpackers are part of the staff actually), and the lounge room is cool with a pool table and a baby foot table. There is also a room with books, tables, sofas and a Tv where you can watch movie. Stayed there for 5 days, but I have to say that my boyfriend and I didn't want to stay more than that and rushed ourselves to find some flatmates. Even though, the place is nice, with two big kitchens where everything is organized for you to cook (fridges, personal baskets to store your shopping, big tables...), I think the cleaning could be a bit better (especially in the bathrooms) and they should pay more attention to how people live in their rooms (after a first night, we had to ask for a new room, because one other guy in our room was living there like a pork for several weeks, so the room was totally stinky)...
A.
Great hostel, nice staff. Rooms are tidy and clean, bed are comfy. Every floor has a kitchen and enough bathroom ! Door secured with tags, wifi & lounge available ! And plenty of people to meet ;-)
J.
Relativity cheap but the facilities aren't great. The kitchens are often a mess, which is not the fault of the staff, but a reflection of the people that tend to stay there. They may need to police this a bit more carefully and have consequences for those who don't follow the rules.
N.
Cameron, the receptionist, is fantastic! One of the best I've encountered in the world. Oozes professionalism. Shout out to my man Marcus from Hlemmur Square in Iceland. HE was the best receptionist I ever encountered. Anyway, the rooms are a bit crowded. Kitchen can be too. The pillows are THE BEST I have ever used in a hostel- big and firm. Cold air fanning the bathroom in the winter? Not good.
D.
Most coolest backpackers that I have stayed at on my trips to Wellington. Close to everything like the first time when I stayed. When I was up for Black Caps VS England during the 2015 cricket World Cup. Seeing a kitchen on the floor that I was booked thought was different compare to other backpackers that I have stayed at . Had move to a room downstairs didn’t mind that and was good with that.Stayed there three times just as good as the first time.Nice and friendly service and good value.
K.
They have parking available if you schedule in advance but it's pretty expensive at $25 NZD a day. They also offer free shipping on Tuesdays from dinner. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms well maintained. Overall it was a good place to stay
T.
The place is close to the bus/train/ferry terminal. The stuff is nice. But the room is miniature and the beds are so loud that when the guy under me moved I woke up. The kitchen is super small for the amount of people and not well equipped (only 1 sink and 1 cooker and not enough cups).
J.
Stayed here back in 2014, it was my first hostel experience and was alright. Would be better in a group but if it's just yourself and you don't mind noise at random times of the day and can deal with a communal bathroom it does the job. It's also a good location to grab a bus or shop which is why it gets 4 stars instead of 3.
M.
This hostel is okay, considering that you pay for wifi I was not really amused. And all in all it was too big for me. Another point is that my bed was not really clean. But I think it depends on who is going there. It was definitely nothing for me.
K.
Clean, you can have a party during weekends in lounge if you want or just chill in quiet room upstairs.
L.
Originally planned on staying for two weeks, but ended up staying for three months. This is a great hostel, fantastic location, great rooms, great WiFi and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely stay again, recommended it to everyone.
L.
Great place to stay!!! We decide to ride our motorcycles all the way from auckland! Staff were great vibe was awesome and easy to deal with. They sorted a locked carpark for us as we were scared about the bikes getting stolen.
J.
Awesome place, great bathrooms can be a bit noisy but same as most hostels. They have security to enforce an 11pm alcohol an noise curfew which makes it easy to stay long term
A.
Had a great time in this hostel everyone was super friendly!! The only concern was two boys called Harris and Alex never stopped talking about girls and feet ! Made me feel uncomfortable ... one was also neckin on with a French girl twisted out his back in the toilet!
Apart from this was all great stay !!
A.
Decent backpackers. It is clean, tidy and we'll maintained. Considering the price of the others it is the best option but still pricey. It's kind of hidden up a back ally which doesn't do it well but it is a good central location walking distance from the city centre and a good nightlife
C.
It's a well organized hostel facility with key card access to different dormitory areas. They have a night curfew for alcohol and noise. But it was nosy as we got the window facing room to the entrance where people went.
A.
I’ve been here for 4 months now so they must be doing something right 😁
No really the staff here are awesome! Professional, really friendly and have great cross dressing game. The trifecta! They’ve always gone above and beyond for me and I think the consistently great atmosphere is in large part due to all of them...and us great guests as well 😜
W.
This place was conveniently located even though it was on a bit of hill. Then again, hills are hard to avoid in Wellington. It was relatively clean and maintained, typical of the institution that the YMCA is. One drawback is the rather complicated floor layout and labyrinthine nature of the corridors. It was so complicated that they've even got things colour coded. If you have to colour code your establishment, it's time to reevaluate how it's organised. Moreover, not having a 24 hour reception is wholly unhelpful. Some of us have to come and leave at all sorts of hours. As a hotel, you don't get to choose when guests come.
K.
Rooms are small. Maintenance needs to be improved.
H.
Welcoming atmosphere by the staff, UNLIMITED WIFI(great speed), great kitchen equipments to use, great house keeping maintenance, secured building, beautiful avitivites happening in the buildings twice or mostly thrice a week like yoga, movies, mulled wine wow. well organized backpacker.
K.
Cheap and Central. But very noisy: the tables ajoint to the kitchen were just in front of our room door! Not too clean, but that is mostly due to the guests I suppose.
K.
Was a really nice place to stay at. And we would certainly come back again if we're staying overnight in Wellington again. Thank you for the excellent service and hospitality.
Thank you Shane and Kathleen Corson.
D.
If you want to meet someone people and hang out, this hostel is for you, recommend it if you are in Welly. Shout out to Thais at reception, lovely and helpful!
C.
Nice laid back hostel with lots of room to hangout unfortunately that takes away from the kitchen space leaving very little room to cook and prepare food. The main kitchen is the biggest one yet only has one sink.
L.
the place is nice, but would be better if it had elevator in all the floors and the baggage room were bigger. It is hard to get your luggage when the baggage room is full.
J.
I'd say it's a good place to stay, they have a free pool table, nice kitchens on different floors. Nice 4 bed dorms in my experience
C.
Atmosphere was casual, warm, and welcoming. Staff were always very friendly and courteous. Facilities were clean and well maintained. After hours security presence was obvious.
A.
Central, good free WiFi, not too expensive. Its Not near any loud noisy bars for sleep. No four star as not enough bathrooms and kitchen facilities where your probably be queueing for a while.
E.
Definitely not recommend if you are with a car. It was such a pain to park in the vicinity of the hostel. Beds are squeaky, bathrooms could be cleaner, but if you're on a budget like we were you'll be just fine.
S.
Everything is really nice from bedrooms to bathrooms to staff! Only problem is that the kitchens are quite small but apart from that it's great.
M.
Very good 10/10 would stay again
S.
Wellington needs more rooms - couldn't find a more decent place to stay for the night but can't complain for a backpacker. The room was clean and tidy.
M.
I've been staying here since I first arrived in Wellington in May. The staff are super friendly and helpful, comfy beds and a super social atmosphere 😊
M.
The Hostel is good for Backpackers who wants to meet new people. In the kitchen is no Space for more than 6 people.
L.
Room is clean as are bathrooms but kitchen was quite dirty. There didn't seem to be enough kitchen equipment for the amount of people in the facility.
N.
Nice big hostel well located. Clean, multiple kitchens, a big chill room. Would recommend!
T.

Stayed there several times in 2014-2016, always was and will be my first go-to-hostel in New Zealand.
I stayed in a 2-party-room (bunk bed with space for 2 on the bottom) and had a great time. Seeing all posts on social media after I left makes me miss the place.
The staff were always friendly and everything was right there.

(Translated) The service was good, the reception staff are well attentive. It is very spacious with several environments to stay in. There is a very large living room with library. Bathrooms are large with great showers. There is pool table. I think there should be more outlets on the premises (in the room there was only one for example). Negative point for the kitchens that could be more organized and for not having Wifi included in the lodging (the wifi is paid and expensive).
