We had all of our flights cancel less than a month before we were supposed to leave for Ireland. New flights cost us more than twice the original price, airline isn't expected to pay out for months and we cleared most of our savings we had for the trip to buy the new flights. Southern Cross were absolutely amazing. Quick responses to calls and emails, genuinely helpful, nice people and they even pushed our claim through so we have the money back before we leave. We could not be more grateful and I won't be using any other insurance companies going forward, their fantastic service has made an incredibly stressful time much easier for us.

SCTI was a God send on my trip to Central America. They were reasonably priced, especially for a higher risk area of the world. Lucky I took out the insurance! I was robbed in what I have to say really put a damper on my trip. Lauren who worked with me to process my claim was efficient and processed the claim- while I was still on holidays! I applied for SCTI Travel Insurance during my first visit to New Zealand as an international student. The customer service is great and I receive my claim usually around a month from my submission. The process is easy and fuss free, and all my submissions were appoved. As someone with pre-existing conditions, it is a relief knowing that the insurance company is supportive of me. No one likes to visit the doctor but it is not a choice decided by us, particularly when you have chronic conditions. I am so thankful to SCTI for reimbursing my medical expenses which enables me to study with less financial pressure and health worries.
Although I am currently with another company, recommended by the university, I am planning to change back to SCTI when my insurance period expires.

Fantastic Service and Claim Results!! I submitted a number of claims following a big trip to Africa which included cancelled flights, and flight delays. These were in the region of $3000 which added a lot of additional expense to an already expensive trip. Southern Cross were simply fantastic, great customer service, easy claims processes and I just received a reply saying the claims would be paid in full. They advised payment would take up to 3 days, but received the same day! Had a friend on the same trip who went with another insurer and different policy and most of his claim was declined!! I always use Southern Cross when I travel overseas, would not risk using anyone else. In my experience (having done a number of big overseas trips), they are the best!! Thanks Southern Cross.

As my travel insurance claim was sent in just before .covid19, I just let it ride as I knew they would be very busy. I soon got a confirmation of receipt and then my claim was accepted. Within a week, I 'received another email saying that I had been underpaid. This was all paid I to my account immediately. The service was very good and there were no problems at all. I would definitely are my use them again as my travel insurer.

I am happy to advise that I have always found Southern Cross Health Insurance and Southern Cross Travel Insurance services to be excellent in every way. I have looked at various aspects and services of comparative insurance companies occasionally over the many years that I have been insured with you, and have always found Southern Cross to have the best policies and most competitive terms to offer. And above and beyond that, I have found your staff easy to deal with and extremely helpful.
One service which stands out “heads and shoulders” above the rest, is that when I ring Southern Cross Health Insurance to advise that I need surgery or whatever, the reply is always that your staff will handle it from there. You contact the surgeon or hospital or whoever, and arrange everything. This system alone would keep me with Southern Cross. It is so much appreciated.
With some insurance companies you have to spend many hours on the phone, telling your story over and over again to a series of people, often over weeks, to get a claim lodged, and every step along the way is difficult. It is as if they are hoping clients will just give up and go away. The attitude of Southern Cross is entirely different. They give the impression they are there to help.

Amazing experience with Southern Cross Travel Insurance for Students. Always quick and fair in processing the claims, meeting and in some case even exceeding my expectation. Absolutely Recommended. My only regret is that I could not renew the same policy with same conditions, being exclusively reserved to the students and not applicable to post-study open work visa holder, like other competitors are actually doing.

A truly reliable and very considerate health insurance partner. Just had my daughter's eyeglasses replaced because her eye prescription had increased. We were informed that it will take 15 business days to get a claims assessment result. Used SCTI for a trip to south america, where I got sick. Luckily the sum of expenses was pretty small (100 nzd) but it took one month for them to process and refund me the money. The whole process is a hassle, I had to sign papers, and mail them out. Nothing is done to make it easy for you. Luckily, i did this when I was back in NZ as it was nearing the end of my trip. But how can you be expected to mail documents from overseas?!? So silly! But seriously, although SCTI was cheaper than Travel Insurance Direct, I will not use them again. Took way too long and too complicated with scanning, printing, mailing. Ridiculous. In the past I used TID, and everything was done electronically and refund was processed super quickly.

It was quick and easy setting up travel insurance with SC. I feel less anxious about my overseas holiday now that I have it set up with them.

My family and I have used SCTI travelling overseas annually for the last 5 years. We use them because their price is competitive and the web site application process is a breeze.
On our last trip we finally, but unfortunately, had to use their services.
My son came off an electric scooter and was knocked unconscious. While at the hospital I called SCTI, from Paris, to explain the situation. Over the phone SCTI acted professionally, while being sympathetic to our situation. Back home, in NZ, we made a claim with SCTI on accrued expenses. While the process was thorough, it was smooth and the outcome was in our favor, because the expense was paid out. But again, through this process SCTI remained professional and sympathetic.

Husband fell ill and was hospitalised overnight in Hong Kong when returning from UK. SCTI staff very empathetic, caring and professional to deal with. Our considerable claim was assessed and reimbursed within time frame given without any problems. Have always used SCTI for our travel Insurance, will certainly continue to do so and certainly recommend them to all.

One has to clearly understand what insurance-product is bought and what are the covers. Sometimes the customers make false claims. So it is mandatory for the insurance company to identify and scrutiny the complex claims and simple claims.
The customer service executive have good approach. But if possible please train them by informing about all the procedures and especially all the inaurance products. Whenever a call was made, the executive all the time had to scroll through some information. Meaning, they lack in product-knowledge. Hope the Claim-Processing team is not of hat sort.
Rest all, everything is of great standard. They always keep the customer in a Loop for every communication made.

I always signed insurance with SCTI. After the latest experience I always will. I got a trip full of problems and even made a mistake when signing up, most insurance companies wouldn't care and would just say it was my fault and wouldn't cover for my expenses. Absolutely excellent. Have been using them for years, always amazing when things go wrong. Recently cut my leg open in Dubai, they covered 100% of the medical expense.
Then in Jordan I dropped my laptop. They purchase me a brand new one, no questions asked. Finally, I smashed my iPhone, again they came to the rescue.
In all instances, I caused the problem. They were all too happy to pay out and ensure I was looked after.
Oh, one more while I remember. My girlfriend gets blocked ears. She had to visit several doctors across the year to unblock them. SCTI paid for every visit, again, no questions asked.

In General, they seem okay, however, i guess as with most insurance companies they have a lot of information hidden away, and i can guarantee that the "reasonable depreciation" rates will favor them and not you.
(example all electronic equipment is 25% for the first 2 years apparently + excess fees) i.e they deduct lots of money!
but they did pay out promptly with what they thought was reasonable. i opened a dispute as i felt this was horrendous that they would not make public the high depreciation rates they use.
so i opened a dispute, and after getting to just stage one of the process i feel entirely drained to the point that you just can't be bothered to argue anymore!
so if the above is what you want and expect with an insurance company, i recommend these to you :)
although in there defense, i imagine if i went with another company i could have probably wrote an identical review.
insurance cover was for Aus over the Christmas period and cost $50 and my claim was for a stolen GoPro with full police report made available.

SCTI are brilliant. I had a medical problem that wasn't supposed to recur. It recurred while I was in a small country with no specialist medical care. SCTI flew me home and I'm fine. Tell SCTI the whole truth about prior conditions, brace yourself to see your premium multiply. Don't tell a little fib to save a couple of hundred bucks. You lie, you can die.
