A very long overdue review, sorry. I can't recommend Oronegro Jewellery enough!!! The service, communication and skill of the repair was second to none!!! I sent over my husbands pounamu to be repaired which had broken. Throw in the mix the fact I am in Australia & Ernesto is in NZ and then Auckland went into lockdown during the repair. The results are second to none, amazing!! My husband was thrilled and very emotional to receive it back again. Not only was the repaired but the necklace had new string as Ernesto noticed that it was worn to much in places. I truly love the piece and believe it is 100 times better now than before. Thank you again!!!

Received wonderful service at Oronegro Jewellery, really can't say enough good things about them. I had a jade bracelet that needed to be cut and was assisted by the son of the shop (apologies, I forgot to catch his name!), who did a beautiful job with very steady hands. The shop is clean and neat with amazing pieces beautifully laid out. Great people, great work and trustworthy. A fountain of knowledge about Pounamu Whakairo. Businesses like this are hard to come by. I would highly recommend.

I had spent a lot of time looking for someone who would be able to take on an unusual jewellery restoration job - re-tying a china hei tiki in a new, coloured cord - before I found Oronegro Jewellery. From my first communication with Ernesto, I knew that I had found the right place. Not only did he endeavour to understand exactly how I wanted my item restored, Ernesto was incredibly friendly and accommodating, even purchasing a new coloured cord just for my project . The end result is perfect and I am so thankful to Oronegro Jewellery for their stunning workmanship on this very special piece.

I cannot recommend Oronegro highly enough. Ernesto is super helpful, knowledgable and friendly. He happily worked on three pieces of stone I had found on a beach in South Westland. But what also really impressed me was the quality of the work on display in the showroom. Every piece is superb and really interesting to look at. I recently had looked through many shops in the South Island without really finding anything that spoke to me. At Oronegro, it was actually hard for me to choose, as there is so much I found appealing. I eventually did find the right piece and happily purchased it. I couldn't be happier with the overall experience.

Have just uplifted my pounamu with a new four braided string attached to it. Ernesto and his amazing team have done some outstanding work in such a short time. The response to my email was quick and helpful and the service in store was impeccable. I am so very happy with the work they have done and fully recommend them to anyone seeking repairs of their taonga. Thank you!!

From the moment I first stepped into the ORONEGRO store on K' Road, I knew I had come to the right place. I was greeted by the beautiful wairua of Ernesto, a man who I am truly humbled to have met. There were many pieces of exquisitely carved Greenstone to be found within the showroom. Within the same space, the workshop is visible where these incredible pieces are carved from raw stones that line the shelves. The space has the feel of a temple. The pieces are beautifully presented and I took many days and visits to decide on the gift I was looking for. In this time, Ernesto listened to my story behind the gift and in the end, he carved a new Toki, this one with intention bound into the stone that connected us all . The experience was an incredible journey with unexpected depth and meaning. My friend absolutely treasures his Toki- and the experience to me was a gift in itself.

Ernesto helped me out with contactless restoration during lockdown. I gave him a broken stone and he returned it even more beautiful than it was originally. He was absolutely amazing, and such a sweet man. He comes from a long line of jewelry makers and learned the Maori way of pounamu, even fixing my greenstone using his hands and a wet stone. I was also impressed with the cord work. Hope to return to buy something custom in the future.

With no doubt the best Pounamu carving shop in the entire city of Auckland! I first came to know about Oronegro when I decided to get three custom pieces for my family. The owner, Ernesto, has been amazing! He followed the entire process really close, keeping me always uptdate about it with videos and photos of each step. Getting a custom piece from Oronegro has been a really full experiance: from chosing the right color and stone to planning the design and size. Also, Ernesto took some time to explain me the meaning behind each single design and a bit of the Greenstone carving tradition. You can relly tell he's passionate about his job from the way he talks about it. Thank you again amigo for this incredible art work! My family really loved it! Cheers Luca

The carving skills of the jewellers at Oro negro are incredible. I went for a simple present and walked away with an incredible piece of jewellery for my partner's birthday... One might find the just the right piece for the perfect occasion, while paying full respect to the traditions around pounamu in NZ and the Māori culture.

Beautiful mahi😍 my work colleague purchased a whale 🐳 fluke from you. It is a stunning piece of work 👍🏽😍 The name given to this taonga is "Matapuna"

Ernesto was able to shape my broken greenstone into a piece I can now wear for years to come. He took the time to figure out what I was wanting for the re-shape and cord replacement which was very much appreciated. Despite me not giving much notice, the turnaround was pretty fast and I was able to take my pounamu with me back overseas. Also, the studio's respect and commitment for the craft felt very genuine and I would highly recommend. Kia ora.

Ernesto from Oronegro Jewellery was most helpful organising to get my pounamu taonga restrung and sent back to me in Australia. I was very happy with the quality of his workmanship and would highly recommend his expertise and service without hesitation. Ernesto has professional knowledge in gemmology and expert skills to work with pounamu and perhaps more importantly has a strong appreciation and respect for working with this precious stone.

Really recommend this place for the quality of work and also the passion for his work that comes through when talking with him and receiving your piece. I sent in a pounamu for binding and was sent a text to let me know my taonga had arrived and would be looked after, it put me at such ease knowing my piece was in good hands. Lovely customer service, wonderful experience.

Best service and expertise in town. I had a piece made elsewhere and the string was unravelling, this was not a problem for the team and they carved the pounamu a tiny bit and fit with a new string in super quick turnaround. I felt so welcome and looked after here. Thanks so much!

Lovely guys who are obviously dedicated to their mahi despite difficult access issues. I felt assured leaving my taonga in their care and was even offered access to a car park for when I come to retrieve it. Happy to revisit this review depending on the workmanship but I really hope I won't need to.

It was awesome dealing with someone who obviously has a great passion for greenstone. I needed my pounamu restrung and they sorted it the same day. The new string looks great too.
