J.I first found benjamin black goldsmiths via social media. Following their art for so long I had to order a custom ring. They are super easy to work with and very responsive. Also absolute quality! Designer Holly was awesome.

Through professional guidance and personalised recommendations from Ben and his team my dream engagement ring was created. It was a few months ago that I got a call from Ben saying he had just received a collection of precious stones from a supplier and he said there was one in particular that he felt would tick all the boxes for me. I went in to find this little beauty hand selected for me. My partner and I then came up with a design and had the ring created from my sketchy drawings. The ring is exactly as I'd envisioned; a timeless, ethically mined Australian sapphire set in red gold. It's perfect and symbolises a very special time in our lives. I cannot recommend these guys enough!

B.Unfortunately I lost my wedding ring a couple of years back and have been on the hunt for a worthy repalacement since then but didnt want to settle for anything. I came across Ben and his team via Instagram and have been following them for a while. Our 15th Wedding Anniversary creep up really quickly and I decided to act only a week out saying I would like a Signet ring made. I had the monogram that we wanted and Katy came back to me straight away saying they could get it up to us within days and that is exactly what happened..... J.Benjamin Black Goldsmiths manufactured a signet ring for me as a 21st birthday gift for my nephew.
It was engraved with the family crest - a beautiful and highly detailed piece of work, definitely of heirloom quality.
Complicating matters, the crest had to be transposed from a low quality picture of the crest. BBG managed this with high attention to detail, no hassles at my end, and was able to manage everything remotely. They kept me appraised at every step of the process, were a delight to deal with and understood and met my needs perfectly.
Not only would I use them again, in 4 years when nephew no 2 hits his 21st, I will be.

J.My now wife and I are from the UK and highly recommend Benjamin Black as we had an amazing experience dealing with both Benjamin and Amy. Last year I got in touch with them after doing a lot of research into recommended gemstone jewellers in New Zealand and we weren’t disappointed!, emails went back and forth but no detail was left unturned and Benjamin created a beautiful custom engagement and wedding band which he then got delivered to me in Queenstown when we started our travels around New Zealand in December 2018. It was here I proposed but unfortunately the engagement ring was slightly too big (my fault for giving the wrong size). As we were travelling around the South Island we could spare a day in Nelson where we met Benjamin who at short notice fitted us in to get the rings resized. Meeting them both added to the experience as they were so friendly and interested in us as a couple. So much so that when we returned to the UK my wife thought it only seemed right for us to get Benjamin to make my wedding band and get it shipped to the UK. Benjamin Black is an extremely talented company and very trustworthy I would definitely use them again and if you live outside of New Zealand and are concerned about using an abroad company don’t be as long as you choose Benjamin Black.

D.I lost my husband almost eight years ago and have worn his wedding band on a chain since then. I recently lost the diamond out of my engagement ring and needed to get it replaced, only one problem my rings had been firmly attached to my finger for 29 years and would not come off. J.A few years ago, I realised that not only did I have a life's accumulation of unset gemstones from all that 1970s backpacking around Asia (they were the smallest and lightest things to collect at the time) - but I'd been the one in my family to save all the bits and pieces from our parents, grand parents, great aunts and uncles… There were worn-down rings, unset scrimshaw and carved amber, lumps of unworked pounamu, an elephant seal tooth from Antarctica - all sorts of treasure, waiting to be turned into something that could be worn.
I spent a year or so, visiting jewelers and silversmiths across New Zealand, and going online to look at web galleries. And then I visited Benjamin Black, and thought: 'This is the one.'
I loved his designs: modern, but already on their way to being classic… pieces that will last. Very wearable - but also distinctive. One-off. I always get comments when I wear a piece that Benjamin and his staff have made.
I've recently challenged him, to deal with a World War 1 artilleryman's watch, that belonged to my Grandfather. It needs a silver band that sets it off and yet shows it for what it is: a functional, army piece. Benjamin knew exactly what I meant. He asked me to bring in other army things: cap badges, buttons, collar studs - and he worked them into the design - consulting me at every step, so that I felt really involved: as if I were honoring my Grandfather's memory. He would have enjoyed this as much as I did!
If, like me, you have some jewelry challenges tucked away - take them to Benjamin Black. He'll listen, he'll create some fabulous designs, and he'll produce the final piece to the highest standards.

M.I inherited a ring that my pop made for my nana while he was serving in the Pacific Islands during World War 2. He fashioned it by hand out of aluminium from an aeroplane propeller. As it was very narrow and flimsy it was uncomfortable to wear so I took the ring to Benjamin Blacks with the idea of having it set into a band. I picked the ring up today and WOW WOW WOW! It blew my mind the effort that had been made to honour the simple nature of the ring. The loving spirit in which it was made and given to my Nana is reflected in its thoughtful preservation.
