This place was amazing. Stay here. Great value. Absolute luxury with wonderful attention to detail. Fab rooms. So unique. Friendly and accommodating hosts. Superb location and grounds. Worth the detour!

What an amazing place. So much history. A very welcoming host. Thanks Mat and family. Nothing was a problem. He was always accessible for any assistance. The hot tub was the ultimate way to unwind while listening to the farm animals and owl around us. How was the serinity? 10 out out 10. Thanks, The Fern and Thistle. Hope to visit again.

Fantastic historic home and beautiful secure gardens. Also pet friendly. Great location for exploring the Catlins. We loved our stay and enjoyed the outdoor hot tub while our pup explored the yard Friendly helpful hosts. Highly recommend

Excellent place to stay! Lovely British style double local brick house with coal central heating. Great history and very interesting area. Wonderful old timey stained glass windows and beautiful gardens. It has aged character that most of NZ doesn't have to offer. The gas spa pool is surrounded by lights and a great view of the garden which combined with the sounds of birds and lack of cars makes it a truly romantic place to be. The hosts are exceptional. Very good conversation, great service and incredibly brave to make such a large project into such a wonderful place to stay, all while raising a family. Great breakfast, lovely hot shower, all modern amenities and not at allfar from Balclutha or Dunedin. Highly recommended whether passing through or staying for a long time.

Beautiful Character Home 🏡 and Grounds. Relaxed Atmosphere with fantastic Ammenites . Hosts very friendly and welcoming. A lovely place to stop and unwind from overlooking the gardens the Spa in the evening with lighting around the gardens and enjoying the open night sky. Fabulous warm spacious rooms and warm inviting home. Would differently recommend to anyone for a get away🥰

Lovely Bed and Breakfast. Comfortable room. A beautiful historical home. Hosts were lovely. A variety of breakfast cereals to choose from, fresh baked bread and cooked breakfast available on request. Hot tub, gardens and peaceful surroundings. Not too far from Balclutha. Would stay again.

Matt & Brooke where honestly terrific, really welcoming and inviting. The hospitality was top notch with the Hosts accommodating our needs. The Bedroom was vintage and fitting for the place with lovely heating all around the house. We got the optional Breakfast, which was delicious. The hot pool was very inviting, unfortunately we didn't have the time to make good use of it, but it's definitely a huge plus. The location is a little drive to the beach, which makes for a great trip out. Overall the service me and my partner recieved here was outstanding and we are already planning on going back. Staying at the Fern & Thistle has been one of the best accommodation experiences I’ve ever had. A beautiful character home with an amazing history, a host who was friendly, engaging and super helpful, and a stay that felt like every possible thing had been thought of - comfy beds, beautiful linen, plush warm rooms, a complimentary drinks fridge, beautiful breakfast and even a hot tub in the very impressive gardens. I think Ove found a new favourite place to explore the Catlins from :-)

Was an absolute 10/10 In terms of B&B way out does most for the price& what they offer. Outstanding hospitality by the Owners a sweet little gem set aside the rolling hills of South Otago . Wouldn't hesitate recommending this piece of paradise to All my Whanau&Friends!
