S.This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at the owners are really nice and the cleaning staff do a great job and are very friendly. The views are amazing and every year we come here and participate in the annual cricket game(Which I was a co captain in last year. Overall this is a great choice if you are looking for a great hotel to stay at and a beach 20 meters from your doorstep
B.I took the wrong road looking for a petrol station and ended up here. I was overdue with work because of the weather and also needed to find accommodation. I stopped and found the most engaging people I had met, with an Italian pizza restaurant at the door! I can’t fault these folk for their hospitality. Thank you for my last night in Gisborne.
C.We've only been here for two days and have two more days to go. On the first night we noticed the water was Cold. The owners got on to it straight away, we were extremely impressed. Nice hot showers. The views from our room are amazing. We highly recommend whispering Sands Beachfront Motel. Huge thumbs up from us.
A.Loved our stay at Whispering Sands Motel. Gorgeous views from the balcony of our excellent second floor family-sized room. Friendly staff and lovely clean renovated room. Best bit was walking out the door to an early morning wake up dip in the ocean. We'll definitely be booking again.
M.We stayed at this hotel for one night during our New Zealand travels. The absolute best thing about this hotel is the nice balconies with beautiful ocean views. It was in a good location, only a few minutes drive to downtown and restaurants, and only a few steps outside to a beach walkway. Our room was large, roomy, comfortable, and clean, but seemed a little “worn” and in need of updating. We liked that we had a mini-kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, appliances, dishes, and basic cookware. The bed was comfortable, and the WiFi was fairly good. The smart TV included Netflix. The nightly room rate seemed a little high to us considering the overall lack of other amenities and in comparison to other similar or higher quality hotels that we have stayed at in New Zealand, but in comparison to other hotels in the Gisborne area, it seemed fair. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The only “negative” about our room was the vented skylights in the kitchen and bathroom. It was windy, rainy, and cool the night we stayed there, and the wind noise as well as the drafty feel of the room was unexpected. We would possibly stay here again for a short stay in warmer weather to enjoy the ocean views.

s.From Judith’s welcome to viewing the immaculate and well equipped room. No complaints. Just like a tiny house there’s a place for everything and everything you could possibly want is here. Comfortable bright light and spotlessly clean. Loved all the personal touches and the location is perfect for a flying taster of Gisborne. A.Lovely location across the road from the beach. Nice to hear the sound of the waves while in bed. Nice big bathroom. Our stay was only for one night but we found Ohope on the whole a bit too quiet for our liking
K.Lovely spot right on the beach. Had room 14, 2 bedrooms upstairs. Great views not only from the balcony, but also the bedrooms. Had private staircase to the beach. Nice kitchen facility as well. Our top spot we stayed on our New Zealand trip.

Best of all though are the owners Pete and Jude, who make you feel as though you are part of their family. Highly recommend it as a place to stay in Gisborne.
T.A great stay at the Whispering Sands again this New Year period. Judith and Peter are the best hosts, and their hospitality throughout our stay as well as in the annual cricket game is nothing short of outstanding. The best location for a restful summer break.
C.Glorious uninterrupted views of Waikanae Beach, right beside the walkway and close to town. The motel is tidy and well maintained with all new crockery and appliances since our last visit. Highly recommended.
P.A bit dated, but clean, comfortable, and stunning sea view; walking & biking track is just in front of the motel; friendly host suggested the best place to have dinner in town; plus Bosco - the cat :)
A.Very clean rooms. Great view to Waikanae beach and boardwalk. The boardwalk was being used constantly in winter. Great to see.

M.Altho the outside of the motel was clean and tidy it had humble rustic charm the unit we had was a pleasant surprise had classy appeal.. Two rooms for three people one roomy with twin beds pristeen linen the main bedroom large very comfy with a lounge suite table n chairs well appointed kitchen the bedroom opened onto lawn with the beach a hop skip n a jump away with a beach and bike/ walkway for the public.. Lovely outlook to Young Nick's Head.. Wow!
