Reviews of Central City Library
Q.
This libraries great for seeing a large range of books available from the Auckland Libraries catalogue. If you want specific books or books from a specific author it's still best to book them using the Auckland Libraries website.
This is a modern site with a clean decor, computers and desks for research, and a maker space. The staff are helpful and easy to talk to if you have a problem.
The building has 4 publicly accessible floors, however under COVID restrictions they are currently operating 2. Public bathrooms and a baby changing room are available here.
Overall, a great library to visit when in the area.
O.
An inclusive wisdom hub for all Aucklanders! An awesome place where you have the best in class books, DVDs, Online Data warehouse easily accessible! Not just that - you'll surprise that 3D Printing Service, Knitting Service, Photocopy services are also part of this Central City Library.
You enter in a Quiet atmosphere, in another way you automatically put into a no-divide your attention zone..which is vital for your research, study or even if you love to read and nobody you wish to disturb you.
I take a privilege to thank @AucklandCouncilLiabraries Team/Authority for their vision, creativity and simplicity too! Cheers!!
J.
One of the best public libraries that I've been to. Free wifi. The place is big but there are not enough seats for everyone. I didn't mind squatting on thier carpeted floors. I just find it strange that food is allowed inside. The 1st floor is quiet noisy and there is a playing area for small children. The upper floors are the ideal place to study coz it's often quite. This is the kind of place I would want to spend my me time in.
A.
Great place for readers. Run by Auckland council, the membership is free and you can borrow varieties books. Three story library has reading sections, you can also take online prints (b/w) for just 20 cents. Amazingly helpful staff. Above all, 1 GB free WiFi access. What else one can ask from a library.
m.
The Central library is so handy if not for Android the obvious there's free wifi yay clean bogs and all the country's major papers n rags and recharge ur phones.Across the Rd is the Art Gallery
R.
This is the premier site for the best public library system in Australasia. An emblem of Auckland cherished by it's citizens
Great collections, catalogue and staff. Used by millions of visitors every year. 55 individual library sites in the system. Without question one of Auckland's best known public treasures. Super education programs. Tremendous outreach.
Fantastic digital access.
V.
The best library I've ever been to.
Just take your passport (ID) and present address proof (Bank statement) and you get a cool library card for free. You can request books once you get it.
You can always read books in the library without a membership as well.
NZ standards can only be read in the library & are not available for check-out.
All types of furniture for you to sit with your favorite book!!
Free WiFi as well. The kid's section will make you wanna be a kid again!!!
Huge collection. Absolutely my favorite place in Auckland!
J.
I love it here! It’s not just books, it’s more than just a library. A very nice environment to read and study too. Awesome library! Coming back here everyday to gain knowledge
s.
Great place for early morning when kids is too bored at home and nothing else is open. The kids area has kids furniture ready for them to go up and down the chair and table. Wide ranging kids books is also located in the same area. Very well designed and presented.
L.
Nice library in town but the staff was very rude yelling and disturbing everyone within for a 500 meter radius because I had a closed to go coffee (not anywhere near books)
The wifi is decent but you only get 2GB so if you have any real work to do you'll probably go over your limit.
The bathrooms are cool they have a 3 in 1 sink with soap, wash a and dry.
Y.
Such a nice library! Maker space is very inspirational. It’s a public space for people who wants to do and create cool stuff. You have access to 3D printer, sewing machine, photo shooting booth, desktop with software like adobe and other open source creative tools.
Apparently you can book one hour session with a helper to ask all kinds of questions. There were a grandma who was getting help with setting up Skype, and next to her was a young student who was receiving English lesson.
a.
Best library, very beautiful building and interiors. Once you go there you would feel Reading automatically. Books, computers, movies, scanning, printing, and most importantly coffee available there.
M.
Good info from staff where books are. Quiet studious feel. Well-stocked. Clean & tidy. Plenty of reading nooks with comfy chairs.
A.
The librarians are always happy to help. Great service and great book selections.
E.
Great place to go, so much space and things to do here. 3d printing and sewing are things you can book and do. Otherwise, space to study, many books including big sections to comics /manga .
Staff are friendly and only need a bit more upskilling.
If you book things like the sewing machine, make sure you have your library card. They won't let you use it unless you have it and booking is essential.
R.
By far the most well resourced branch of Auckland Libraries. A lot of items hidden away in the 2 basement levels. The areas available for access to public (ground, 1st and 2nd floor) are relatively sparsely populated with resourses in an effort to cram in "study" areas and meeting rooms. Unfortunately these areas are less used by genuine students but by loud an discourteous homeless people and people on Skype. Security and librart staff are powerless to stop them. Most staff are professional, knowledgeable and friendly but some could use a refresher on customer services. This was once a wonderful place to browse and borrow books, not so much any more.
A.
Great services offered by the CAB, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff.
T.
Excellent environment and friendly staff. Very easy to find what you're looking for, and if its not there you can order it in. There is a large selection of computers and design spaces available as well if you need to get some work done. All in all, a good library.
K.
Great library still waiting for the roof to be fixed on the other levels as it's been a year now and not completed, love the research area lovely staff, Just still waiting for other levels to open up.
J.
Was able to get some nice and quiet work in on the second floor. Staff are kind, respectful and helpful when it comes to assisting you with whatever you need their help with! Will definitely be coming back for some quiet time again :)
S.
It's well organized and land of plenty in books.
S.
Awesome place to study and kill those assignments. Haven't explored the books and other media selection but shall consider this once I start work. It's a quiet place that allows one to stretch their legs, a GB of free WiFi and charging points galore. What more could a Uni student want.
S.
Worked a Saturday moved some new materials into the new build only worked 5 hours then went home 10/10 would not recommend.
L.
Clean, safe and well equipped.
L.
Rainy day in AKL but am really enjoying it with my cuppa and NF books😍
S.
The librarians are helpful and there are self checkout kiosks for books. Upstairs there are meeting rooms available to book and there are many computers and copy machines. There are some nice places to sit and read as well as a great system downstairs for picking up books that were on reserve or in the archives.
L.
What a great facility. Fantastic staff and space. Just very cold as the AC is on a very low temp so bring extra clothes!
S.
Here very big collection of books, audiobook and videos. And also helpful staff. Well managed. But collection of Indian books are less. But still I love it because der is lots more many books to eat😋. Yes it's provide free membership card just you need identity card that's it. Inside library free WiFi available. And also you can used library's computer for 1hr per day.
T.
Located in the heart of the city the library offers a range of public amenities and services. Free wifi (daily limit 1gb) with plenty of room to setup for the day. Free public computers, lots of power points and some attractive views, too. Drop by if you've an hour or two to kill in the city, or perhaps need to meet with your study group or reading club, there's spaces for groups, too.
G.
Lots if great books, space galore and friendly staff.
P.
A truly world-class public library system available here in Auckland. Central Library is a city icon and a bona-fide library experience.
P.
I've spent many a daylight hour in this place doing freelance work on my laptop. The internet connection does well enough and the printing and computer facilities are pretty great. There isn't really enough seating and the place gets packed out almost all day, nearly every day, and there are nowhere near enough power points for everyone (unless you sit in a book aisle where they'll inevitably - and quite rightly, to be fair - ask you to move). Occasionally moron will sit shouting and swearing to his bros on the phone, but everybody else for the most part treats it like a library. The staff are incredibly friendly to the homeless folks who come indoors for some respite, which is great. Nice work, guys!
K.
Always visit each weekend to do study. Great place a lot of resources. Helpful staff. Recommended
P.
The neatness and large space is what attracts me to this library, the feeling is ideal for studying. However I find that people feeling privileged enough to eat inside makes me hesitate giving Central City Library 5 ⭐s . The smell of the food as well as the sounds they make when chewing is distracting and sometimes frustrating. Overall a great library, ideal for studying and the staff are more friendly than other libraries 👌👍
M.
A great building, and the staff are great, as is their poetry area. I found a great book, Poems in Total 46"by Dale Quentin, and really enjoyed it, my friend who is passionate about poetry bought me a copy and is much appreciated. Thanks
C.
This is a very good place opened to everyone and that's what we liked. The quiet rooms, the internet access and all the books permitted us to plan our trip throughout New-Zealand. That's a place I recommend for your research or just to spend time on a rainy day.
P.
Great library, rich source of books, magazines and other reading materials. Good place to read, do research and learn. A lot of desks so that it is suitable for working with latops or writing. Always clean and tidy. Love this place!
N.
Large library with a great staff! Can’t wait to try out the online collection
P.
Great place to work, lots of space, got plugs and 1GB free wifi.
A.
The library is a great place to work. It offers 1 GB of free internet and plenty of power sockets to charge your laptop or phone. It's not busy in the morning, but it can sometimes be hard to find a spot in the afternoon.
C.
I come here for work and it's a lovely little library with helpful staff. The selection isn't the best but there's free WiFi, computers etc. Great community resource! I come here for work and it's a lovely little library with helpful staff. The selection isn't the best but there's free WiFi, computers etc. Great community resource!
M.
This is the best library I have ever been to! I recently moved here and was so pleasantly surprised to see that it is so easy to become a member and get access to all thr amazing books, magazines, cds dvds and games! Its free to borrow and thr process is really easy - just scan yoir card and items and you can take what you need home to enjoy! Perfect spot for students to work in peace and great area for kids as well! There's even a great section on community languages, which includes: Korean; Russian; Spanish; Japanese; Chinese; German and some more. Very helpful people working there. It became one of my favourite places in Auckland.
T.
I enjoy this library. Sometimes after shopping i could go get some books.
Offer different languages too
k.
Always the best library to go to. Just to cool down fron the hot sun or to relax and read away
A.
Located near Auckland Civic, this is probably the largest Library in Auckland. There is a lot to see here as the building is 3 or 4 stories high, with a diverse range of books and discs to source from. Not only restricted to English, there are multiple sections of the Library reserved for specific languages such as Chinese. I was amazed to find a fairly new and wide range of Light Novels and Mangas on display on the first floor of the building. There is also noticeably a good range of DVD's and a few relics of the past. (Kantai..., I see you too are a person of culture). I would recommend a visit here as there is much to see and learn. Would absolutely recommend.
Y.
Lots of seating available, free WiFi as well which is a plus. The atmosphere there instantly helps you get into your groove of getting stuff done like reading, academic work and so on.
J.
A great place if you like libraries! Close to Queen Street and with good facilities.
U.
21Nov16 C'mon Central Library! In 1967 you were a darkish dive of narrow paths between shelves and stairways inside a creaky building downtown. But you had lots of seats for book browsing and/or thoughtfully vacant members of the public who responded at all ages with far too much affection and wouldn't go home at reasonable hours. Today you can enjoy the same profound affections of 21st century fans. You can do it. Put in more seats all through the library.
S.
I love the city library as I love reading and like to surrounded by books. If you love reading or a place for study and research, the city library is a place to go.
E.
A welcoming public space in the central city, with helpful staff, great collections and lots of interesting free events. Good to relax in and read comics if you've got an hour to burn in town.
P.
This place has improved significantly over the last decade and I'm so thankful. A free 1GB daily quota of fast internet, great desk space and it's generally peaceful. My only gripe is you'll find lots of desk unnecessarily 'reserved' and this could be managed better. The Esquires coffee downstairs is sub-par but just head 2mins up road to Mojo in the Auckland Art Gallery.
K.
Awesome place. Lots of stuff to read, can research travel ideas, free WiFi - upto 1gig a day, toilets, 3 floors, plenty of seats and plugs to keep you going. Cafe on the ground floor. - enjoy.
A.
Stunning and amazing new children's section - unless of course you are a child who wants to read books in te reo in which case you have to go upstairs to a much less welcoming environment area where all the Maori language books are kept. How does that work?
J.
last week they were very helpful when i had to send something to Houseing New Zealand by email because i had no idea on how to do it because i always get the Auckland City mission to help me out but Last week I couldn't because what's going on now with this Cover 19 virus going on
J.
Vast number of books to choose to from
F.
Nice and quiet, the books collection is very small but the atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly.
D.
I use the family history work shops held on Wednesdays fantastic variety of books magazines cafe is joined to the library. reading area for the children free WiFi
H.
Friendly, helpful staff and collection make this the number 1 destination library in Auckland's CBD. Highlights for visitors including the biggest and broadest zine collection in the country, extensive collection of classics in the basement, welcoming makerspace, GIMP and LibreOffice installed on every public computer, free film screenings on Monday mornings, a mural of our most important writers and artists, a carpet for Pacific navigation and flashbacks, and power sockets everywhere.
H.
Staff very helpful. Wonderful range of books etc. Atmosphere awesome.
S.
It's Massive, 3 Stories. Silent and well maintained. Have a Nice Kids zone for them to play.
L.
A lovely clean space mostly used for study but welcoming to all. A fantastic selection of books, dvds, magazine and more.
J.

J.
It's a library! So its a winner already. If you don't belong you should absolutely join...now. The number and variety of items you can borrow is fantastic. Mostly free... mostly fabulous!
S.
Massive collection and they have a bigger collection Online!! You can browse and request an order online, which makes it extremely convenient to reserve a read for yourself. Stellar maintenance of the place & really helpful staff!!
M.
This library is the perfect place for working and just relaxing with a Book.
The wifi works very well.
Too bad there are not enough tables for everyone.

There are plenty of spaces where you can read books freely without feeling cramped as it is brightly opened.
There is also a free book event on Thursday at 12 noon.
It's easily accessible, so if you're in Auckland, be sure to stop by.
