Reviews of Villa Maria Estate
D.
Lovely winery. Wines were top notch. 15$ pp for tasting. We also had a charcuterie platter. Will be back!
D.
The setting here must be Auckland's best kept secret for that special lunch. The meal was most enjoyable and Toni our waitress took great care of us. Looking forward to going back again soon.
V.
Unfortunately we weren't able to have a proper lunch ad we hadn't made reservations but we had a lovely tasting experience. Nice location, intimate and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. We had Isabella take care of us for tastings and she was amazing!! We did end up sitting outside and having some platters with more wine later. They even brought out small blankets so guests could keep warm. Great atmosphere, beautiful place. Really enjoyed it!
S.
Great place for a breakfast or lunch with special occasions... The food is great and the service is top notch... But it is even better along with the premium wine tasting... I will go there again and again
D.
Stunning location - tasting and platters not available due to staff shortage and bookings in the restaurant. Staff particulary the gentleman was rude and uninterested in us as though we were a nuisance. We understand these things in the current environment but there is no excuse for rudeness. Website needs to be updated to say bookings required for tasting and platters as we were guided by that after cycling 20kms specially.

After a 30 hour travel time with the last leg being a 14 hour flight from Los Angeles we rented our car and headed to Villa Maria Estates. Only a short 8 minute drive away from the airport you pass through a heavy industrial area with factories and warehouses until to turn into the estate are immediate transported to a luscious and tranquil vineyard with beautiful views. We had an amazing lunch at the cafe starting with the warm Turkish bread and then main courses of grilled grouper with a fresh adornment of vegetables, scallop ceviche and corn chowder (check out the pics). The fish was perfectly grilled and the veggies incredible fresh, the ceviche was refreshing and lite and tropical with citrus and fresh coconut while the depth of flavors in the chowder were so incredibly fulfilling. With lunch we each had a flight of wine followed by a tasting. Our hostess was very knowledgeable about the wine and very accommodating to our particular tastes. We ended up walking out with four bottles... We would highly recommend Villa Maria Estates!

Came here on a beautiful sunny, November Saturday while there was a Wine Sale (amazing deals. Wish I budgeted my week to get some. Oh well, next year 😉), going on.
The scenery is breath taking, several different plots of vines, a pond, Willow trees, shrubs, barrels and a stairway to take beautiful photos of.
Came here to check it out as a possible wedding venue and found there was a cafe!!!!
So will have to come back and check it out.
M.
Went on Waitangi day for lunch and the service was quick and professional. Tried the Hawkes Bay beers and they were good, menu is a little limited, however it was fresh and tasty. You can do wine tours and tasting if you want. Great on a warm summer's day to relax and take in the views.
S.
Gorgeous venue! Lovely spaces, great food and lovely wine. Best service! Thoroughly enjoyed my day here!
D.
Beautiful location, friendly service. Waiters were quick to bring food and wine but were slack when in cane to catering for non alcoholic drinks. I went with a group from work and I was just drinking juice, my drink was slow to come out and I was left with an empty glass often. Shared platters (meat/cheese/bread/parfait) were really nice and a beautiful selection. I had eye fillet for main and was average.
E.
Evening Christmas Party 2019 venue. Cosy, exclusive, great staff and food. Heaps of parking, easy access to the motorway. Unforgettable evening, live and very entertaining live band. Thumbs up for everything.
J.
An amazing winery minutes away from Auckland International airport. They grow small sections of aromatic white grape varities here like Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Verdelho, Viognier and Gewurtzraminer.
It is a modern facility that the company uses to showcase their quality and skill being very close to the airport. Our visit included a light Mediterranean themed meal that made a great pairing with their wines.
Our visit was even more special because we had a personalized tour and tasting with owner and founder Sir George Fistonich.
P.
well located 5 mins from Auckland airport- a must go before your flight out. We did the winery tour, and went through the impressive vineyard from the different vines to bottling. Did a premium tasting afterwards of selection from the guide based on one's preferences. Ended up buying their 2015 merlot since we are more into red wine than whites for which new Zealand is known for.
C.
Food superb staff so over the top. Understand why place is booked ahead. A must to go if n area
A.
Villa Maria has been a favorite of ours for years, and for good reason: great food, great service, and beautiful views of the vineyard, native bush, and rolling hills. We tend to find ourselves there for lunch. And you can't beat the cellar door and wine tasting.
The pic is of my wife's dessert... gorgeous! Thanks, Villa Maria!
S.
Lovely place to eat. The mains are fairly small but very tasty. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is excellent. This is a great place to catch up with friends
K.
We come here on our work Christmas lunch. It was my first time here, beautiful grounds but shame about the weather.
They had a set menu and the food was fantastic and the service was brilliant. We took a $5 wine tour after our meal which was good fun. I'll definitely will be back again and try something which is not on the set menu
D.
Great concert venue and great organising for parking to go into concert. However, a long wait to get out of the carpark, with a lot of unclear signals and poor direction, but we got out eventually, after about 45minutes, despite being nearer to the exit, otherwise it would have been 5 stars
J.
Beautiful vine yard and restaurant with outdoor seatings viewing the vine yard. Wonderful place and enjoy a short walk around the yard. A quiet place separated from outside area.
S.
I have been to this place quite a few times now. I was here this time with my workmates for a wine tasting and lunch. We had not booked in, but the kind staff was able to squeeze us in. The experience was good. Food was great and so was the ambience! The wait staff had some great customer service skills too. My rating is 4 because of the cellar door experience that we had! Sometimes it’s just not about the wine, or tasting, it’s also about how a host receives us and their soft skills! Would still highly recommend as my previous experiences has always been great in the past! Cheers
D.
I have been here a few times and cannot think of anywhere better to unwind with friends and family. Surrounded by vines and overlooking a pond, the outlook is spectacular, especially on a sunny day. Summer is busy, so you would be wise to book. If you're lucky enough to have a sunny winter's day, you can often walk in and get a nice seat outside. All the food I have tried here is great, but the superstar for me is the Charcuterie Platter, it's enough to share between 3 or 4 people. I recommend the Flight Tasting to go with it - a selection of 3 wines to go with your meal. The cafe staff are great - friendly, polite and with real knowledge of the food. The same can be said of the sommeliers if you choose to do a wine tasting, and as they deduct the cost of the tasting from a bottle purchase, why wouldn't you? Until next time, VM!
A.
Platters were delicious. They made it welcoming for a group with young kids too which was great!
T.
Beautiful location that will suit most venues. Extremely good service from the friendly team. Food well presented and tasty 😀
H.
Very nice..good food and friendly staff. Treat you with special drink on your birthday 😊. Love this place.
S.
Had a great time with the family, early Christmas lunch. Food and wine just delicious. Go there!
J.
Nice terrasse for lunch next to AKL. Good ingredients and cooking (fish was a bit too coocked though).
C.
Fantastic venue. Superb wines and food, following the tour. Come away feeling more educated re wines.
t.
Top place for lunch. Toni is honestly the best host. Will be back
V.
Great venue for get together.
E.
Superb location near airport. Perfect for after flight lunch. A vineyard within Auckland! Food is good and fairly priced for it's ambiance.
V.
Excellent food and drinks and the most excellent service! Great day out for friends and family.
M.
Yvonne was excellent as our host for the wine tasting. Very please with our purchases. Stayed and enjoyed a fabulous lunch and cheeseboard. What a great place with amazing staff.
S.
Fabulous food, service & views. Wine tasting info was very informative
M.
Had the most amazing Tasting on Rose Day with the lovely Bex, such a knowledgeable Cellar door host and beautiful person. We were treated very well thank you.The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome, the food is delishimmo.
The wine is defiantly world class and paired excellently with the food.
I now have a few bottles to help fill my wine fridge. Definitely a must do while in Auckland
N.
Pretty slow service towards the end of the day. Ordered drinks and platter food for four ..And the order came with no water, cutlery or serviettes.
M.
Winery cafe in a beautiful hidden setting just near Auckland Airport. Great food, great wine, great service and the coffee is pretty good too! Often quite busy for weekday lunches but it's worth the wait. The menu is timeless and the wine matches are obviously always on point too. Ideal place for a business lunch.
P.
Great to see Mangere's vineyard open again with wine tasting and taste bites
M.
The food was amazing and bursting with flavor.
The wine was delicious.
We enjoyed the cheese board, watermelon salad, red snapper and the lamb. Couldn’t have been more pleased with food choices and the wine.
What a delight to find on the airport property.
Be sure to enjoy!
Great spot if you are ever stuck on a layover

D.
Great sale as usual. Always worth the bi-annual trip ☺
B.
Just off the plane, staying the airport. We needed some dinner, recognised the brand from the UK so walked over to explore. Delighted to meet the friendly staff for some excellent food and wine. Even though the closed 6, they were happy to accommodate our late arrival. Super friendly. Lovely estate. Would recommend.
W.
I came here for lunch with 3 others, they absolutely loved the food, i on the other hand did not think it was amazing
The beef eye filet was nice however it was slightly over cooked which made it chewy , the duck . lamb & fish were cooked perfectly.
for dessert i had the white chocolate parfait, this was so boring, the parfait had virtually no taste and half way thru it just tasted like milk, the blackcurrant sorbet on the side was way to sweet, this was a major fail.
two others in my group had the banana cheesecake which they raved on about saying it was perfect.
The cheeseboard to finish the meal was very nice.
all in all it was an okay experience , however i personally do not think it lives up to the hype .
M.
Setting of the winery is very nice if you realize how close it is to a large industrial area. Wasn't really overwhelmed with the three wines served in the wine flight. The main issue is however that the quality of the food is very average, certainly for the price you pay for it. We had the Winemaker's Platter (for 2 people) that sells for $50. It was just a collection of food you can buy at your local supermarket deli for about $20. Zero creativity, nothing actually prepared fresh in the kitchen. We have been to many wineries and this was the worst value for food. Altogether quite disappointing.
H.
Lovely place. Attended SOL3 MIO's Christmas concert, enjoyed it very much.
D.
A clear choice for business lunches or for pleasure. The adjoining shop has a wider selection of wines that you are likely to encounter in the supermarkets. Food is top notch, classy but in a way that is not overly done. Staff are efficient and discreet (in the case of business lunches this is a bonus) and adequately friendly on busy weekends, which makes some of these comments a little hard to understand.

Fantastic!!!.. I've had the pleasure of going there several times recently, twice for special occasions. The food is great and the service is excellent I had to organise an event for 20 odd people in the cafe, we had the platters as advised...it couldn't have been easier and it was a really relaxed and stress free event. I then took my parents for their 65th wedding anniversary they loved it...the staff were awesome!
Relaxed friendly and professional, and the food and wine is good too!!!
G.
It was a windy Sunday afternoon, but we braved the outdoors for a spontaneous late lunch. The vegetarian Cauliflower three ways was super yum as was the duck - all paired with a wonderful glass of wine. Great service and great food.
H.
A romantic place to go for a date
K.
Just had my wedding there over the weekend. Dida and the team at Villa Maria is amazing! I cannot be any happier with how the day went by! You guys made the whole planning process so easy and stress-free and all the staff were just so friendly and attentive on the day. We enjoyed every moment of it and am so grateful to Villa Maria for the experience!! =)
c.
Wonderful time at Villa Maria, thank you to all the team
S.
Fantastic venue for afterword Friday or a Lazy Sunday platter and wine. Great music event venue close to Auckland City.
J.
Gorgeous situation, fantastic wine and coffee, delicious food and even has a sandpit/climbing stand for the kids what more could you ask for? Plus, we live only 5 minutes down the road. Service can be a little gruff but everything else more than makes up for it.
K.
nice outdoor area with calm view, as Ok, the usual tiny sized portions but I suppose that's normal. Service was OK and the food nicely presented. I was told "yes all this is gluten free" but this wasn't the case.
k.
Food was fantastic but they were very busy and forgot our wine order also the food came out after a very long time
J.
Came for wine tasting and tour, host was great. For some reason the cellar bottle prices are more expensive than supermarkets weird seeing that they are made on site and walked to the shop!
i.
When you first arrive you see the plantation of the vineyard, very huge and clean. You then arrive to the carpark, the place is welcoming and very spacious. The wine tour was very informative and your quickly immersed in to its rich history of its beginnings, its processes of wine making and how very proud of its traditions, reputation and achievment throughout its time. The wine tasting was something special especially for someone like myself who hardly drinks, but quickly learn why villa maria is one of the best in the world. I can say now i have an aquired taste for pinot gris and its desert range. iGuide Reviews.

Beautiful grounds. Food was great. Just took a while to come out and for those in our group that didnt order entrees, they waited over an hour for their mains to arrive.
L.
Great foe xmas function. Wine are great but food is just ok. Will come back for another try. Beautiful winery thought.
t.
What a gorgeous, welcoming place. Upon arrival the service was A1. Very bubbly, knowledgeable staff and the menu is very extensive but reasonably priced for a winery. Eugenia was our host, then we later found out she was the manager. She is a breath of fresh air - courteous, vibrant and well spoken. Great afternoon.
L.
Stunning surroundings and good selection of wine. First time I had duck ever and it was amazing. I believe it will make a beautiful wedding venue too.
S.
Despite the wet weather, the setting of Villa Maria Estate remained picturesque. The food portions were generous and fairly priced. I would definitely recommend Villa Maria for a celebratory meal or special occasion.
P.
Had lunch here. Peaceful vineyard setting. Charcuterie platter was wonderful! Tasty wines (of course) and beer too 😊
A.
Corbynn was an absoute delight! She was incredibly knowledgeable about the many regions Villa Maria has grapes in and talked us through an exceptional tasting. She is the reason we keep coming back. Delicious wine and multiple varietals. Thanks, Corbynn!

J.

F.
Lovely location, delicious food, a real treat for a special occasion. Plus you can have a wine tasting or cuppa if you're not having a meal there.
G.
Nice out of the way spot for a winery, staff very professional towards residents from one of the facilities I drive for
D.
The restaurant is totally amazing and looking at their menu makes you hungry. The best part is, you get to see the whole vineyard while eating, if you choose to sit outside. A must visit place for nature and wine lovers.
K.
Fantastic place to visit for lunch - or even better their annual wine sale!
S.
I spent the day at Villa Maria today. I ate the pork belly, the venison and for desert, the Pannacotta. The food was delicious. Having worked in kitchens for over 10 years, it’s usually yummier to eat at home. Today was an exception.
I was blown away by how delicate the flavours were and the staff we so lovely. They were definitely run off their feet, you could see that all the customers arrived at once, but the wait staff still had a smile and time to check in to see how I was.
I could not recommend it highly enough. Thank you, I’ll be back again soon!
S.
Spent time there waiting for connecting flight great lunch and tour and of course wine

Brilliant location and festival venue. Pity that not enough parking near or on-site. Prepare for a long walk when attending concerts.

Lovely slice of country surround by Auckland industrial parks. Great food and plenty of wine to work through.
K.
Personal experience - arrived half an hour before closing time, the wait staff seemed like they couldn't contain themselves to finish shift and close up. Seemed annoyed we turned up close to their end of day even though we knew we would only stop for a quick beverage. As expected - huge wine selection.
J.
Impressive facility and equally impressive menu, a light and well balanced degustation with interesting wines to match. The hosts were entertaining and the wines gave a new perspective on some styles.

(Translated) We had a very nice tasting: balanced and aromatic wines. Sauvignon is for me the best. The lunch dishes are excellent and accompanied by the right wines. Go for a walk in the vineyards, they are so well maintained. A good moment before continuing our journey.
(Original)

(Translated) We had registered for a guided tour and wine tasting. Arrived we were prepared a table and, which makes sense, first to eat, then carry out the wine tasting.
The different plates were delicious (what with wild boar pate ...).
Then it went wine tasting ..
Unfortunately, we were told that they close now, we can not get a lead and can only taste 2 varieties very quickly.
Annoying, since we were only sent to dinner ... even with the statement, we would still have enough time?
(Original)
