Reviews of Te Awanga Estate
J.
Simply wonderful place. The staff were wonderful & we enjoyed a very informative wine tasting, followed by a glass of Rosé and Syrah with a delicious pizza. Stunning location and ambience overlooking the vineyards and some trees in bloom.
C.
We went here for lunch and sat outside under a tree on one of the provided picnic blankets. This is such a wonderful place to have lunch and chill out. It was very popular with families and there is more than enough room to find a spot under a tree and it’s not cramped so you’re far enough away from other picnic goers. The parking is plentiful and super close to the entrance which is a bonus. Grab a bottle of their wine and relax under a tree on a warm summers day - can’t beat it. Staff were amazingly friendly and accommodating too which makes all the difference.
S.
Te Awanga Estate was recommended to us as a great vineyard to visit. Was a lovely day to enjoy their wines, sit outside in the sun, topped off with a great platter. Lovely friendly staff, easy parking. Very impressive. Would definitely recommend 👌
M.
We loved our experience here. The food is great, the environment do atmosphere superb, the customer service really good. We came in our motorhome. Easy parking. We will come back, hopefully biking and with friends and family next time!
A.
Stopped here on a family bike trip with friends from Clive to Clifden and back (after being denied next door at Clearview who were full). Fantastic lunch of platters and wood fired pizzas on picnic blankets and low barrel tables outside. Nice wine and Garage Project beers plus Bundaberg range for the kids. Nice staff. Thumbs up across the board.
B.
What a fantastic place. We were there late in the afternoon, as the last winery we visited for the day. We didn't have a meal, and yet were there for a long time, despite being the only guests. To say that we were looked after was an understatement. We were taken through the full range. The winemaker's take on some varieties was astounding, along with a couple of award winners. There were wines for everyone, with some that we will drink with family on Christmas Day, to others that have gone in the wine fridge for years. We shipped a box back home and it probably won't be the last. The winery has a fun vibe with great wines.
And no, I was driving, so it wasn't just the fact that it was the 'last winery of the day' and a few wines that made it fantastic! It did, however, top off the day.
D.
Four of us dining outside on a typical HB day. The trio enjoyed their selections; I ordered pizza (a real one several levels above D and PH) and was a beaut! Certainly on a par with Hell or Pipi's. One lovely pink blush rosé and two estate syrah. Might see you there.
M.
We randomly stopped off here on the way past after a gannet safari, very pleased we did as the wine tasting was $5 per head, refunded per head per bottle purchased.
The wines here are made by the excellent internationally renowned head vintner, Rod McDonald. The Syrah is awesome, as too are many of the whites. You can stay here and also eat, the food looked amazing, though we didn’t have chance to sample in this occasion.
A.
Very friendly tasting experience. Excellent wines, both red and wine. The staff are knowledgeable and make you feel like family. The setting is gorgeous. The artwork for the mister label is award winning. 10 NZD for tasting 5 wines.
J.
Really enjoyed this winery. Had a delicious glass of rose` and a lamb/ pita and hummus dish for lunch. All served with a smile.
D.
Outstanding platter enjoyed today, nice Vista over the vineyards. Helpful staff with wine expertise and the 5 wine tasting option was a winner, each wine brought to us at our table with a brief explanation.
S.
Nice unpretentious winery which is a lovely change from many of the others in HB. Had the pie and wine which was great. Wonderful to have interesting vegan choices, something not a lot of others offer. Highly recommended.
D.
On a sunny day nothing can beat Te Awanga. Gorgeous location, superb and humble food with top class wines. Lovely staff and family friendly too. We've been here multiples times and are never disappointed.
B.
Love Te Awanga. The best value in the bay for a bottle of wine and a platter. Tastings are always fun and the staff are awesome
R.
Beautiful setting, views of wineyards towards sea. Wines and food are excellent.
C.
Lovely spot for a relaxed glass of wine and shared plate. The chardonnay was superb, as was the platter, although I suspect our order got lost because they needed reminding and we ended up still eating when all other guests had departed. Lovely setting looking over the vineyards to the sea.
E.
Platter was very good - 45$ for 2 people. Nice setting and staff too.
F.
Lovely Winery to sit on the grass and enjoy a glass of vino.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the wines.
Great pizza menu
Jo gave us a great wine tasting
R.
Wow.. absolutely delightful experience. Very professional and humble staff. Food is super delicious. Will certainly visit again and again .
l.
We were so impressed by the staff yesterday giving our granddaughter a special small platter. It was perfect and the Funguy (mushroom pizza) and the Maltese Falcon (spicy Mediterranean) are the perfect pizzas. Love the thin bases - highly recommend
Thanks Lynn
S.
Great outlook, friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed almost all the wines here. Will defo keep my eye out for Te Awanga wines now. Unfortunately, we got there late so the food was closed, but from the platters we could see on other tables, they looked great!
D.
Great place. Nice outdoor seating. Staff are not in your face. Toilets immaculate.
Wines divine and much better priced than other local winerys.
S.
Had such a wonderful time here. Everyone who served us was incredibly kind and the food and wine is SO tasty - bagels on point. Plus it’s nice and causal with lush space to relax on the grass in the sun. Will be back for the summer gigs!
D.
A wide (and slightly bewildering) array of wines - 5 labels in total. Friendly staff and a fun place to be on a sunny afternoon. The best part was the food - the thai pumpkin pie and the Maltese Falcon pizza were a cut above the usual casual winery fare.
S.
Very relaxing end to winery bike trip. Food amazing.
R.
Great winery in a beautiful, relaxed setting! Amongst all the wineries in the area, Te Awanga Estate stands out as a friendly place with personality. Kenny was very knowledgeable and a welcoming host to guide us through some great wines! Definitely recommend!
C.
Just did the wine tasting here(no sitting), their wines are not surprising, very plan. The dinning area has nice view.
P.
Four of us went for lunch today. Enjoyed a platter and a pizza - both excellent. Wine prices very reasonable only $20 for a bottle of sauv blanc.
The driveway into the cellar door is a bit of a mission to navigate though - be good if they could run a grader over it to fill some of the cavernous pot holes!
G.
Brilliant wines which are definitely less expensive to buy than most wineries we've encountered. There are platters available too, again at reasonable prices. Great, cheerful and knowledgeable staff as well, making this cellar door well worth a look at.
C.
Again a beautiful platter and wine smoky mirrors is there-off range highly recommend dial a friend
J.
Great wine, delicious food. Relaxing atmosphere
R.
Fantastic little winery on the hill. Could have stayed all day. Delicious wine and pizzas, friendly staff and gorgeous location. Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.
D.
Beautiful spot on a lovely day. Delicious platter. Staff friendly and nice. 1 thing they forgot to give us 2 knives with our platter, no dude plates and no napkins. We had to ask for these items. But enjoyed
R.
Awesome place for lunch and great wine
D.
Beautiful location, would benefit from some tasting notes on the wine list and a little more knowledge of the wines/regions.
M.
Wonderful knowledgeable staff and a great variety of interesting wines in the tasting. Superb cuisine. Well worthwhile a visit
B.
I love this little winery. It's off the beaten path which means that many people decide to pass on it. The tasting room staff are super friendly and knowledgable, and the view from the outdoor patio over the vineyard and ocean is incredibly peaceful. When you visit, order a platter and a bottle of wine and plan to spend the afternoon. Delightful!
M.
We were told to visit here for the pizza and the view and were delighted with both but the wines were worth a visit all by themselves.
The service was impeccable and we ended up enjoying a pizza and their fabulous pinot gris on the outdoor deck and ended up getting a second pizza to enjoy later with our other bottled purchases.
Highly recommended.
O.
Amazing winery with great cheese boards - favourite wine was the One Off Organic Chardonnay. Lovely and friendly staff, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Hawke’s Bay!
K.
The wine, the pizza, the setting - hard to beat this place. Probably my favourite thing to do in the whole region. Absolutely idyllic spot. Love how casual it all feels.
K.
Great stop on the cycle tour ... Very knowledgeable sommelier. Elegant wines and yummy pizza. The wine tasting was a great fun.
S.
Stopped off here after an incredible morning with the gannets, Te Awanga Estates did not disappoint. The "not posh" winery delivered superb pizza for lunch before our tasting and had a really "chill' feeling to it. For the tastings, Sally was the consumate pro. We tasted 5 wines for $10 each, and the $10 went towards any wine that we purchased. Great wines and lots of fun. Thanks Sally and all the staff at Tw Awanga Estates.

This year for our Xmas work do we decided to do a winery tour on bikes (with thanks from Coastal Wine Cycles - Charlotte offers amazing service).
Our first stop was Beach House wines - fantastic wine tasting experience, from the Ladies there...
Our second stop was Te Awanga Estate - these Ladies were so welcoming, accomodating and thoughtful. They created a great atmosphere for us under the trees in a idealic setting with blankets and other thoughtful touches.....stunning location, great food (asparagus, lemon, parmesan & mint wood fired pizza! Who knew it would be so delish, it really works!), excellent service and hosting....wine was ab fab too:-) great experience, thank you Ladies! We so enjoyed ourselves, catering for all 18 of us seemed so effortless by you and I really appreciated the pre planning support and ideas you gave me.
Elephant Hill was an impromptu stop and Clearview was our last stop - both had a team member that let their teams down sadly.
Highly recommend including Coastal Wine Cycles, Beach House Wines and Te Awanga Estate in your future winery tours for a great experience:-) ....The three of you left a brilliant lasting impression on us and we're all still talking about when we'll return with our family and friends.
J.
What a great lunch, we biked there, pizza, platter and the best T A chardonnay, most enjoyable, a lovely spot. Thank you.
A.
The the venue is beautiful but if you go at a busy time good luck
A.
Compared with other wineries in the area, the service on this particular visit was subpar. When we arrived the young man behind the bar did not even make eyecontact whilst we stood waiting to order. The platters had sold out completely too.
P.
Very friendly and reasonably priced winery and great pizzas and views
K.
Great service and awesome wine selection.
J.
Really excellent wines. Delightful staff and it's a beautiful location. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and they won best Syrah in the world, 2015!
P.
Thought maybe I would not have to see 40,000 gannets if I could distract Sue. A little winery sign turn right and hilarious sheep are eating the leaves off the vines. Went for a wine tasting, I am really starting to appreciate the local Pinot Noirs and Sauvignon Blancs.
We stayed for lunch with a Maltese Falcon Pizza, a little more wine tasting and carried off a few bottles for our mini fridge back in Napier.
j.
Beautifully setting great food fantastic wines
W.
Excellent pizzas to be enjoyed with a glass or bottle of wine on the terrace with a view out over the vineyard. A good spot out from Napier.
K.
First class wine. Lovely staff and excellent food. A must if you are in the area. Jump on a bike and enjoy!

The pizza here was amazing! Nice place for a short lunch break in between wine tastings.
