My friend who is local brought us to Sovrano for wine tasting when we were up visiting, and I am so glad he did! Was definitely the highlight of my weekend! The host (owner) was a great character with a good sense of humour. Told us about the different varieties of wine. I am in love with the Port.... Need to get me some more.

On a trip to Kerikeri I researched some local wineries on Google and found Ake Ake were open long hours and also had quite an interesting range of products. Upon arrival Maz greeted us in. She's an amazing host and kept us quite engaged during the course of our wine tasting. Her knowledge of the products are exceptional and she has all the skills to make your wine tasting experience a truly memorable one. If you love wine, you wouldn't want to miss this experience.

Excellent day out wine tasting and lunch for two at a smaller and more personable winery. The wine tasting was very informative and comprehensive, with many wines and liqueurs to try and all of them excellent. My friend is vegan (I called in advance and advised them of this), and they prepared a specific menu for her, which was both kind of them, and delicious. The service, friendliness and attentiveness of all staff was great. A great day out and highly recommend!

We came for my partner's birthday dinner, the wine we chose was great. we chose the double cooked pork belly which for us was a strange combination of flavours and we were looking forward to really tender pork but it wasn't that tender. We also chose the Stroganoff, the meat was dry and not as tender as we would have expected. the entrees were pretty good, but garlic bread and deep fried prawn isn't that difficult to cook. All in all for the price we paid for the meals we felt it was overrated. Service was friendly and professional. if we came again we would choose different mains and hope for a better taste experience.

We were glad to get a table in the busy restaurant, which serves good food - but pretty sure the vegetarian dish of the day was basic shop bought pasta - which was pretty disappointing at the price paid, and as the only vege option.. would return for wine but not to the restaurant on this basis.

Ake Ake have one of the best, value for money platters in NZ. Great atmosphere, friendly hosts and love their La Doux. Highly recommended and I just hope the new owners don’t change a thing.

Magnificent, food, wine, service, setting and tasting experience. Our group of 11 rocked up with no reservation.for a birthday lunch. The super friendly staff sorted a table and tasting (surpurb wines and liquors).. The food was truly exceptional complimented by he most gorgeous wines. it's not often you find a menu where you genuinely want every item. Even the chef in our group was impressed. The very specific dietary requirements for one of our group were met with such care and attention to detail. Our birthday girl was even treated to candles on her own special icecream "cake". A huge THANK YOU, to the friendliest staff for the most exceptional dining experience. PS: Cant wait to sample the goodies we purchased.

Beautiful venue. The food menu looked divine but beware lunch closes at 2pm and book ahead for dinner. Wine tasting $8 which is taken off if you buy a wine. Wines are ok, depends on your taste. There are some very cool unusual wines (the orange wine made in a Georgian style). I had just come from Marsden Estate and I preferred their wines but the staff here are very nice too!

Delicious food in an unpretentious environment. Loved the seared tuna entree and very happy that I was able to combine the swordfish with the couscous from another dish. We had a great night out, dining at Ake Ake in Kerikeri. This restaurant has a very good reputation locally, according to our friends, and I can see why after going there. The friendly service is attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The menu is short enough to make it easy to decide but covers an excellent range and varies enough to keep the regulars coming back for more. The vineyard connection adds the ability to purchase something to remember Ake Ake by when you leave. The food preparation and presentation was excellent. Everyone at the table was very happy with their choices and we left feeling sated and looking forward to the prospect of a future visit. Highly recommended.

We went to Ake Ake for dinner this evening and could not have asked for a better dining experience. The welcome as we arrived was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Tasteful decor and plenty of seating options indoor or out. The Pinot Gris was sublime. The wait staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Our entrees arrived fast. I had the Chicken Parfait and my husband had the chowder. Absolutely delicious. Best I have ever had. We shared and both were fabulous. Mains were an absolutely melt-in-your mouth steak with hand cut chips, and I had a succulent Duck Confit with a gorgeous, tangy Asian inspired salad. I could rave all day about those mains. Portion sizes were just right. Not too much, but not so small you were disappointed. Dessert was a heavenly Pecan Maple tart with vanilla bean ice cream (to DIE for!!!!) And we finished off the meal with Irish coffees. GREAT COFFEE! This was without a doubt the most enjoyable, well prepared, fresh, delicious meal I have had out in Kerikeri for many years. Coupled with excellent service, friendly folks and beautiful wine this has been one of the better dining experiences we've had. Highly recommend you try Ake Ake if you are ever in Kerikeri. You will not be disappointed. It deserves 10 stars instead of 5 and we will be going back again when we can. Thank you all so much for a wonderful meal and experience.

The setting and quality of the food is excellent. As was the quality of the service. However the size of the vegetable portion were very disappointing. My wife and I both selected the eye fillet. 4 x duck fat chips I would have liked at least 6. Two sprouts cut in half, two small sticks of carrot and one small sprig of long stemmed brocoli. I doubt the veg served on the plate cost $1. Come on guys seasonal veg costs so little. We are localish and this was our 2nd visit this year. Not likely to revisit soon due to this.

I've been dining at Ake Ake regularly over the past year and rate it as one of the top restaurants in Northland. The food is perfection and their Ake Ake brewed Pinot Gris and Wild Rose wines are superb. Would recommend. Well worth the drive from Whangarei.

We went to Sovrano yesterday. Best service and food we had for a long time. Hamish was super friendly and he deserves five stars alone for outstanding hospitality. He was super kind with our four year old daughter. Food was delicious and the presentation exquisite. Highest recommendations to the chef. We will definitely come back.
