Reviews of The Winery - Queenstown
R.
My cousin and I went here on our last day in Queenstown. It wasn't planned but we were quite chuffed with our find. They were clearly short staffed on this day (one poor soul to hold the fort) but he tried his best to be attentive and we got our gin tasting paddles in a timely fashion and were left to it. We were totally fine with this and would go back for sure. I quite enjoyed the gin-ternational explorer paddle (flight #4) as there were some gins that I didn't think would float my boat but they did indeed. Perhaps we'll do wine tasting in addition to tasting gin on the next visit (there's an idea!). Tasting responsibly of course. The wine is literally on tap but note that it isn't a free tap! I need a location at the airport too methinks...
N.
Wow!! What an experience! If you love wine, this is the place to go if you don't have time to visit the vineyards. We did a gin tasting as well and it was an absolutely 💯 experience!!
J.
We were looking for a relaxed location with a good selection of beverages and something big but not overly substantial to tuck away at, this place did not disappoint. Great selection of wines and whiskeys, small array of beers and solid cheeseboard offerings to accompany all of them.

Had an amazing afternoon at The Winery back in June as a group of 14. Chris was friendly, informative and effervescent, telling us all about the wines and putting up with our terrible banter. Fantastic selection of wines, with the added bonus of spirits and other options for the non-wine drinkers. Added bonus of the bar next door for when you've had plenty of wine and your palate has lost its sophistication. Would highly recommend.

I'm such a drunkard. Everywhere I go in New Zealand, I'd always look for winery, restaurant that serves wine. Heck I even visit bottle shop in each and every town that I stopped by to purchase wines to drink at night, at the comfort of our accommodation. As a matter of fact, I couldn't recall the day which I didnt touch wine at all. In Queenstown where I spent the longest time was no exception.
So I googled around and The Winery popped out in the search. We settled the kids' dinner earlier and then dragged them to our intended destination. They were protesting but we insisted and we even offered sweet deals to keep them quiet.
The sights of hundreds (if not thousands) of wine bottles made us excited.
◾for starter, they will give you a card which you have to use to purchase a glass of wine. All you have to do is to insert the card into the wine dispenser machines, which by the way, are all around the outlet. Price varies depending on the type of wine and volume that you choose.
◾The small ones were so eager to help to press for me, or perhaps they found it fascinating to see this kind of technology for the first time.
◾No wine experience is completed without food hence the assorted cold cut, cheese, bread and cracker platter that also comes with pickles, and dried fruits. It's platter for two but the sheer size of it could easily feed 3-4.
They do have tables outside the premise should you want to drink and eat alfresco style but it was beginning of winter so I got cosy hanging out inside the premise itself. Of course they do sell wines by bottles if you have particular preference but to me, I had fun trying many types of wines which I do not normally see in Malaysia.

The wine tasting here is grossly over-priced ($5+ for a sip) but it’s not a bad spot if you want to try a lot of NZ South Island wines in one place. The platters are excellent and plentiful, they generously gave us more bread and olive oil when we ran out which we appreciated. There are better platters in town elsewhere though where you can also get a bottle of wine and not pay corkage. When I was surprised there was corkage at this place the salesperson kindly shared its really a retail store and not a restaurant. Bit confusing concept, honestly, you can do the same in Italy and not pay an arm and leg for it though I do understand this is not Italy :)
A.
Good place to try a variety of wines without worrying about how to get home (if you are staying in town that is). They'll give you a card which will start a tab you can pay at the end. Fun experience where you can try a variety of brands
J.
This place is great. They have a huge range of local wines. You get given a swipe card and can try lots of different wines at portions from 25ml and up, they do have some good beers as well, but mostly it's about the wine.
You can buy bottles of wine also to take home and they do cheese boards which looked good.
L.
Great concept! Cheese and wine tasting. Haven’t seen anything like this before except for in David Jones. It is very easy to rack up a bill on your card though so be aware. Very tasty cheese boards especially the blue cheese with honeycomb YUM!
H.
Loved this! You get a glass and can self-serve about 100 local wines, as well as a few whiskeys and sakes. You can choose different sizes (so have just a taste or a full glass) and then you just settle your tab at the end.
I think I tried about 8 wines and a whisky and ended up paying about $50, which I thought was fair.
Lots of comfortable seating inside as well, a comfy place for a drink and a chat, and they also had cheese platters that looked amazing (though I didn’t get to try these).
Worth a visit for any wine lover!
K.
Overrated and priced. Didn't like most of the wines sampled. There is a nice environment to relax in, but wouldn't recommend going here.
D.
Unique concept of wine tasting. Value was okay and cheese platter was good. Huge selection of wines to choose from. Only feedback would be to focus more on customer service. Overall, a must-try experience for wine-lovers.
K.
Amazing selection of wine and fabulous setting but staff were lazy an unengaging. Wine snobs who don't understand service and sales.
G.
A fantastic experience thanks to Larry and the Crew. Great place to taste a wide range of wines (and cheeses if you want).
G.
For $30 we got to try a mix of kiwi reds, whites and whiskey, the self service model was great.
E.
I really liked the concept of being able to try a whole heap of wine in one place. One taxi ride back to your accommodation is much cheaper than trying to visit all the wineries individually! The cheese platter was so-so but it was worth it for the pinot noir range alone.
M.
Great concept but poor execution - quality of wines were lacking. Also the tastings were standard 25ml but for some of the tasters it was $30!
M.
Great way to discover and taste wine. Staff had a lots of knowledge and recommend perfectly what we were looking for . Delicious cheese and charcuterie platter. Beautiful venue. Excited to visit their Arrowtown shop!
J.
I love wine but we had limited time so tried the gin flight. Loved it, i wish we had more time to stay
D.
Awesome staff. Great music. Good way to taste someone the more expensive stuff without buying a whole bottle. Small cheese platter really nice and plenty for 2
L.
Prepare yourselves for a fun time! We came here after a disappointing wine tour and had a blast. You choose your samples, it displays prices on top of each available wine and you can have a taste, half glass or glass. Order a platter and settle in for a lovely afternoon.
S.
A great place to try a selection of wines without travelling to multiple wineries or worrying about who is driving. You can try multiple wines with their ‘tab’ system or enjoy a glass of your favourite. We really enjoyed our experience - it’s a great concept.
M.
Loved tasting a bunch of wines here and had a cheeseboard we couldn’t finish! Tasted a 2013 Grange! Worth the visit just for that!
A.
A really fun, low pressure wine tasting experience with more options than any other winery I've ever been to. A great place to taste wines with a group of friends without having to listen to a sommelier. They don't have very many food options but the cheese platter was delicious.
M.
I had the most amazing experience with The Winery wine delivery service! Larry was just amazing with his super service - replying on a weekend, arranging I got wine delivered on time (I had some extra time constraints) - just absolutely outstanding!
I would definitely recommend The Winery to order wines online - you know you are in good hands when Larry is dealing with it!
A.
This is literally the best wine experience in New Zealand. "Wine experience" in this country usually means "going to the vineyard, eating in the local extremely expensive restaurant, taking selfie holding a glass of wine, taking pic to the glass of wine with the vineyard on background... You don't even see the winery. What's matter is taking pic with a glass of wine. Here, you can have a great wine experience like at an actual wine store. Going around, choosing which wine you want and how much, getting tipsy with $20. Awesome!! All the winery in New Zealand should learn from this place. Easily over any other. There are many tourist traps in Queenstown, this is not. This is an actual highlight of the town. Extremely recommended. The only con I can think of, as in New Zealand they have an extremely high level of sulfites in the wine, probably this store and the whole nz are not your place if you are intolerant.
H.
We came here after touring a lot of the wineries in the region. If you’re in for the actual wine tasting, just come here. Very smooth process to taste their wines (and whiskies and sakes) and great cheese and meat platters. They have 80+ wine varieties.
C.
108 wines on tap with more available for sale. Three samples of wine from $ 25
J.
Not cheap to taste as many wines I wanted to, but saved the driving and an amazing range of wines to try, friendly knowledgeable staff and not bad retail pricing. If you want to try a number of NZ top wines in one place, it is a must.
P.
Awesome winery with some great music. Very friendly staff and a good way to try some good wines in a comfy chair!
S.
The Winery have a selection of high end wines like Te Mata and Penfolds Grange for sampling. That means for a small amount of money (Grange was sampling at $35 per 25ml) you get to try one of the most prestigious wines. They have a healthy selection of wines from NZ as well as internationally and the service staff are helpful.
If you are a keen wine drinker, The Winery will keep you entertained for hours. If you are not particular about your vinos, you will be better off getting your bottles from nearby supermarkets like Four Square because the prices are generally cheaper. However, if you are looking for good labels, The Winery will probably offer you some of the best in Queenstown.
K.
Awesome place to drop in for a pre-dinner drink and a cheese platter after a day on the slopes or just about anytime!!
Staff (especially Oliver) were awesome, showing us around and sharing information on the different wines on show. We went back twice in our short stay!
s.
Good music matched with the wine, also very knowledgeable and good service from gorgeous Chris , he got a good memory knows what weekly I'm going to order😃, highly recommended.
C.
Absolutely incredible. Fabulous value on the Deluxe platter, and I enjoyed the experience of choosing different wines at my own prefered volume, and learning about them all. Great service and lovely ambiance.
R.
The card system is great. Definitely try the cheese platters too. This is a great way to try lots of different local and international wines all in the convenience of a central Queenstown location.
J.
What a delightful place. Just don't sit there toooo long. Those chairs are comfortable, the wine and whiskey are awesome, and it's VERY easy to spend a whole afternoon here.
I'll just have to take a second mortgage out to pay my tab!
S.
Great way to taste various wines in a very convenient central Queenstown location. Amazing cheese platters to accompany the wine tasting and you can buy nice souvenir gifts to take back home.
D.
Amazing place. You can taste a lot of wines. Or buy a wine and drink it right there for a $10 corkage fee. They also hook you up with restaurants to avoid corkage fees.
L.
Excellent place to start if you wanna try some wine. However they don't have some of the smaller wineries (e.g. Felton Road, Mondillo). Otherwise a great place to be though slightly overpriced, typical of Queenstown.
J.
We had a quick stop in to try some whiskey and port. The place is really nice, perfect for a date if you're looking for that kind of thing. There are a ton of options and lots of gifts if you're looking for something for someone back home.
ע.
Great wine tasting experiance. We also had a wonderful cheese board. Nice soft music and comfortable seatings. Had a great time
J.
Great way to try all the wines New Zealand has to offer, in a relaxed and affordable way. Nice calm and cozy atmosphere. Great way to spend an evening
L.

Loved this place, you can taste most of their wines and take a cheese platter while you do it. Great fun and nice staff

(Translated) You can drink a favorite wine from a small amount. Because it is charged only for the drink, recommended for drinking and crisp! There are more than 80 kinds of wines, mainly bottles are between 3000 and 5000 yen. One cup is about 700 yen. You can purchase your favorite wine on the spot.
Easy food can also be ordered inside the store so it may be good for second use.
