Reviews of Croydon Aviation Heritage Centre
T.
I’ve always just driven through Mandeville and never really stopped. Glad I did!
Was looking for something to do with the family and everyone really enjoyed the heritage centre. Great restoration work and museum of old planes. The lady working there was great and very helpful.
K.
What a great spot to visit. Not only a great display of aircraft but also a beautifully restored steam engine which is one of the original Kingston Flyers
J.
Visited in October of 2018 while on a tour with Fly Inn Great stop during our flying tour around the South Island.
G.
Cool place to visit.
Very cool seeing some of the old aircraft - even had on of the last of New Zealands airforce planes the Aermacchi.
Worth a look and a visit and adding a Rail museum to the place will just add value.
The original Kingston Flyer on display after some brilliant restoration work.
M.
Great spot to look at planes and the history of pilots from the area. Art gallery and shop on site also. Was disappointed I could not have a flight in a biplane, they are grounded at present. Pays to ring first to see if they are flying. Airplane Restoration off-site costs bit more is privately owned, reception needs to ring them first to see if it's okay. The entrance in get in was $12. Lovely cafe next door with homemade goodies, and a shop which you can visit too
R.
Great place doing some amazing work for restoring old planes. People come from all over the world for this! Outstanding
J.
It's a must very interesting - have a flight in a Tiger Moth with Aerobatic absolutely fantastic 👏
M.
What an amazing place to spend a few hours after a great lunch or morning/afternoon tea.
B.
Absolutely Amazing, shame the weather is not or would of gone up in the Tiger Moth. Next time
A.
Bit of a hidden gem if you like old planes. With th bonus of a restored steam Locomotive
A.
More than I expected. They weren't actually open but I was invited to wander thru the hanger and take photos as I wanted, and chat. I shall return.
P.
Very well presented aviation museum the cafe also is great
M.
Pretty low key but a great selection of de Havellin aircraft.
B.
We had a brilliant afternoon. Well worth a visit to see these well restored planes. An added treat was seeing the old Kingston Flyer in full steam on it's new home at this Centre.
C.
Upside down selfie even. GREAT VALUE Joy rides.Fantastic pilot doing aerobatics etc.
R.
Very interesting.
Shame COVID has stopped them showing the workshop.
A.
Great collection of non military fabric planes.
D.
surprisingly good! Didn't think there would be such a selection of planes to peek at, but definitely worth the $10. Cafe was decent too, good wee outing!
A.
Had fabulous time with Grandson, got to ride the Steam Train, then take a look thru there museum, great for all ages .
w.
This place was amazing. Who knew that inside the hangar would be so many amazing aircraft, so beautifully restored. I had never seen a ‘tiger moth’ up close and it was really interesting seeing inside one as well as learning about it’s history.
Laurie was our ‘tour guide’ and he was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the centre. A beautiful facility with lots of stories, a cool little shop attached to it, with a gallery space attached and a lovely cafe afterwards to have coffee and cake. A GREAT place to visit not only for the keen Aviator but all the family. Highly recommend this place to all.
L.
very nice not a large museum but still worth the look as you can get right up to the old planes
C.
Very nice. Must see place to visit.
S.
Well worth taking the time to have a good look around. Don't forget to go to the workshop the guys are very please to see you.
J.
Great place to visit with a lovely cafe and knowledge staff. Will go again.
A.
Great display of old aircraft but couldn't do a 'bucket list ' flight , too old, bum too big for seating.
G.
It has cool stuff pricey but cool giftshop as usual, but the historical reads are somewhat limited, i believe they are currently setting up a small rail way to go the distance of a few paddocks
M.
Saw the signs and decided to pop in, was surprised by the collection of planes and the cheap winter admission price. Staff member was very friendly and informed us that if you go on a weekday you can also stop in at the aircraft factory next door
J.
If you like inter-war De Havilland civil aircraft, you'll love this place. Friendly, low key, excellent collection, and my son loved having a spin in a Tiger Moth.

It was a good day with the family it's was a hot one made new friends.
All a all it was a great day out
M.
Awesome light aircraft museum only $12 adults. There are several very interesting planes in the collection. It's worth going out of your way to visit and if you have time pre book a flight in the DH 82 Tiger Moth bi-plane, or the DH 89 Dominie/Rapide, which is a large cabin bi-plane with seating for 8 passengers. If there is anyone working in the Croydon Aircraft Company workshop ask if you can visit and see aircraft being restored, some from around the world.
The Moth- Miss Cocoa Coffee is in a lovely setting and has a good selection of food to order.
B.
They do flights in a Tiger Moth and a Dominie (6 persons minimum) and a comprehensive museum as well. Moth cafe next door is good as well.
J.
The Croydon Aviation Heritage Centre houses mostly aircraft from the 1920s and 30s, including an extensive collection of de Havilland aircraft. It is unique in that nearly all of the aircraft on display actually fly. This nationally significant museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating New Zealand’s civil aviation heritage – both the stories of pioneer aviators and their equally colourful machines. Many of the aircraft on display have been restored and are maintained by the Mandeville based Croydon Aircraft Company.
