I came to your little shop a few years ago I got my youngest son a carving while on holiday in nz. the craving still looks like new. and the string hasn't frayed. before I found this carver I went to about 10 other places while in nz looking for a craving. but when I found this place I knew it was the one, all the carvings on display where very good quality. a nice family run buiness, with polite customer service and alot of information given to customers. keep going forward because your work is brilliant .

Garth does fantastic work, and we felt good to be able to support a local artist and not a huge corporation or large shop. Garth was on vacation, so we only interacted with Jo. However, she did a great job of explaining the shop, how Garth works, and telling us the Maori traditions around greenstone. I 100% recommend this shop!

I've been here twice already and absolutely loved the place, the crafts and the people! If you want a jade that is hand carved by someone who has the right, knowledge and passion to do so Garth and Jo are your pick and will help you all the way to choose the right piece and explain you the meanings and traditions behind it. So nice to meet and spend some time with people who love what they're doing and they're doing it for their family. Had an extra chat with them and was great!

Thank you for engraving my mum onto my necklace that I bought 3.5 yrs ago from you. It was very special to bring it back home to the place it come from. My mum and her spirit will always be with me now. You are very talented and respectful man. Thank you once again.

I've been trying to find someone to create a ring for my partner for a very long time. I am so impressed with Garth Wilson Jade for a few reasons, the communication between Jo and myself was superb. She did a great job of explaining the designs they have on offer and there was a feeling like they genuinely care about their work and their customers.
I hope that when I'm able to return to New Zealand that I'll be able to come here to Greymouth and see the beautiful pounamu for myself. Thank you again.

We have been to New Zealand twice now. We came and saw Garth and Jo last time and found them extremely friendly and helpful. We came away with some awesome Jade pieces and some helpful local info on places to camp and see. We came back this time with extended family and felt we had to take them to get there own pieces. The experience this time was equally as good as last time. Everyone came away happy. They are lovely people, and Garth's Jade carvings have a much more personalized touch than any gift store purchased Jade.

Garth has incredible craftsmanship and creates beautiful pieces of art. Jo went out of her way to help me find a piece that suited a friend which resulted in a beautiful and meaningful gift. She was an absolute pleasure to communicate with. I would recommend to everyone.

Such a friendly couple. We spoke for a while and I learned heaps about Garth's connection to the area and the pounamu he carves. I bought a beautiful little piece as a gift for my daughter and she loves it.
J.
I got my beautiful pounamu from here back in February and I have yet to take it off. Jo was an excellent saleswoman, friendly and super informative but not pushy, and allowed me to browse and deliberate until I found the piece that finally drew me in: this simple, sturdy circle with coloring that reminded me of a braided river. Jo even put it around my neck for me. They have pendants and other pieces for every kind of budget, and Garth's craftsmanship is truly out of this world! I will definitely be back someday!

Garth is a very passionate and knowledgeable craftsman. He took the time to answer our many questions, explained the history of pounamu and his personal connection to it. Even gave us some great local recommendations. Would recommend anyone looking for a special piece to seek this place out.

Well.. what can I say.. I ordered a braclet from the loverly jo the other morning over the telephone.. The service was out of this world.. jo explained all about the bracelet and the jade bead which is attached to it..Received my order this afternoon.. Marvelous quality and exactly as jo said it would be.. I recommend dealing with these guys.
Many thanks.... Anne from Invercargill..

Garth was awesome, talk to us all about greenstone and how he makes it. So much info and respect for what he does.
M.
Garth is a highly skilled craftsman who obviously loves his work (loving something is a sure way to get good at it :). He also took time to explain his craft and answer all my inane questions :) I'm glad my daughter got to meet him as well since he's decided to do something he loves for a job.

Found Garth Wilson Jade in a local Greymouth brochure. Always like to check out local shops/family run shops. What a find! Loved all the pieces, hand made local Jade pendants and other larger pieces. I would have bought more than I did if not for limits on the travel budget. :-) Jo explained everything in great detail down to the local harvesting of the raw stones. There is something priced for any budget. A must visit!
B.
A wonderful man! He is full of passion about his trade and love to the stories and legends around this very unique and beautiful stone. He will tell you the significance and the importance of this gem for NZ and it’s people. You will see his eyes sparkled when talking about jade. We loved it here and everything he told us and we learned how to wear and value Jade now. We were luck to have met Garth.
L.
We didn't make any but Garth was very helpful with information and easy to speak with. Thank you to Garth and his Wife. If you would like to make your own pice of greenstone this is the place to do it.

The best experience of our 2 day visit to Greymouth. We were warmly welcomed by Jo who explained details of Garth's work and the history of pounamu in the area. We got to see Garth at work and saw many beautiful pieces all hand crafted by Garth. There were even some created by his children. We bought a beautiful toki and had its origin explained. It was very interesting to learn the history of each and every piece. We stayed about an hour and as we left we felt we had made new friends. A great experience which we recommend to anyone travelling through the area. We will definitely return.

One of the truly special little places to stop in at during your West Coast travels.
Garth and Jo have a really cool thing going: Because of Garth's iwi (i.e., Māori tribe) affiliations, they have special access to jade sourcing, allowing him to handcraft incredible pieces of stone, which they personally sell worldwide from their little shop.
Can't speak highly enough of how welcoming, informative, insightful, and patient they were when we dropped in. We don't wear jewellery and thus weren't going to buy anything, but we felt compelled to make a donation, given how impactful the visit was.
Even if you're not looking to buy jade, this is such a wonderful place to add to your itinerary!
B.
My family and I were luck enough to visit Garths home gallery and my wife and I celebrated our upcoming wedding anniversary by getting each other an awesome piece. Garth and his wife are very welcoming and it is obvious from the moment you talk to them they are passionate and knowledagble and there artwork and local history. Can't speak highly enough of them, you won't be disappointed. Going back ourselves soon 😁
K.
Awesome experience! Beautiful jade that's genuine! Garth and his wife greeted us with open arms. I purchase a bracelet with 3 jade beads and and am so in love with it. Will definitely be purchasing a necklace in the future on line but would love to revisit again one day! Kind regards, Tassie Tourists Aug, 2017

Garth and Jo are a perfect team making visitors feel at home and offer highest quality pounamu beatifully carved. In theis workshop it is also possible to find the best suggestions on sightseeing in the Greymouth/Hokitika region. We are so happy with the carvings my wife and I bought and also our daughter was happy to choose one for her among the ones we chose. Thanks and hopefully see you again in future.

I wanted to get a meaningful gift for someone leaving the country, Garth and Jo helped me choose a design, and gave me heaps of beautiful options within my price range!
They also sent a lovely letter with the piece, explaining the meaning of the design and where the pounamu was sourced. Absolutely couldn't recommend them more highly!!!
L.
Always very accommodating, carved a piece for my husband and happily added markings when we had children. He also restrung for no cost, which was unexpected but greatly appreciated.
C.
Must stop if you're near Greymouth. Garth and Jo are extremely friendly and informative. Always nice to meet the carver behind the jade pieces. Pieces are different to what you find in other stores in a good way! Lovely people and pounamu :)
G.
Garth and Jo worked with me to create the perfect pounamu pendant for my wife.
I was definitely a “high maintenance” client, but Garth and Jo were extremely patient and talked me through what could and couldn’t be achieved. They helped me find the perfect pendant design and created a simply stunning double koru pendant from a complex and beautiful piece of pounamu, which my wife adores. What is truely amazing is it was all done by email.
The letter and information that comes with the pendant is a really special touch, and helped me understand the significance and protocols of gifting a pounamu pendant.
If you are looking for a truely fabulous sophisticated and meaningful gift for someone special, then I would definitely recommend you visit, call, or email Garth Wilson Jade.

KNOW WHERE YOUR JADE CAME FROM
Garth is a true craftsman. Got my piece and my wife + son. I know who made it and the true meaning of each piece. It was also handed over the right way.
It is a true gift to me and my family - one that I will cherish forever.
Thank you Garth
B.
Absolute top quality Jade stone jewelery if you're wise enough to not bother with the tourist variety stuff. Was great experience seeing a proper workshop. Wish we could have bought more!
M.
Very impressed with Garth and his wife. Garth explained how the operation works and his wife was a very thoughtful sales lady treating all with respect. Well done team, the lawn looks great, well done to your daughter.

If you're looking for a truly unique piece of artisan Jade, a gorgeous selection of carefully created pieces that allow everyone to find something that'll make you completely fall in love with it? This is absolutely the place to stop. We were looking for something really special to celebrate 2 special occasions, and Jo was the perfect host to tempt us with Garths bespoke work.
Everything from techniques used, to the workshop itself, to information on every variation of Jade and the regions they are sourced from, the crafting processes themselves from piece to piece, and just flat out being a wonderful font of knowledge and reccomendation for places to visit in the area itself, Jo was warm, friendly, and more like a good mate genuinely trying to help you find something you love, there was zero hard sell going on here, just nothing but enthusiasm and passion.
Suffice to say, we found exactly what we were looking for. So do yourself a favour, definitely pop in to see their beautiful art, and find out all about how they create it, even their talented kids have got pieces available !!
Thanks so much. from Kinnon and Janie

Garth and his wife are among the friendliest people we've met on our travels through NZ. They're proud of their heritage, and every piece they sell has a story. Definitely visit!

Super clever guy. Beautiful works. Very passionate about his craft, and knowledgeable. Go see him, its a great experience!
C.
We came in 2014
We don't see him at work. It is his wife who received us, very welcoming she explained us the history of her husband and some jade stone in the culture Maori.
We left with for me a necklace which I carry always at present and for my cousin of earrings
C.
Incredibly informative, beautiful pieces which are not mass-produced. They explained the meaning behind the different carvings, and the ancestral link and importance of pounamu. Really worth while. We'll be back.
M.
Such a beautiful piece of pounamu (Jade) and such a lovely experience going through them. As I am māori myself I was a bit iffy ordering online. But the treatment I got made my wairua feel at ease. And now that I have the beautiful piece of pounamu in my possession, it just feels right and not bad. I don't know how to explain it. But they're definitely worth getting in touch with.
V.
