Reviews of Mangawhai Museum
J.
Didn't actually go in the museum, will be going back tomorrow as we ran out of time...BUT...this ship that had been excavated out of the sand was such an amazing sight!! I am so glad we stopped!
m.
A magical place, with a splendid Museum now made even better by the arrival of the recently recovered sailing ship the Daring. We were fortunate to be allowed to view that lovely almost-new ship which completed only one voyage before being driven ashore where it became buried in sand for almost 200 years. Good luck to those willing volunteers who intend to complete their work and then put her on permanent exhibition. I'd be happy to make a modest donation if a Give-A-Little Page were to be established!
But if you go to see the Daring, be sure to make time to visit the wonderful Museum!
S.
My partner & I visited Mangawhai Museum the last time we were in the area, for the first time, and were really impressed! Being a small-ish town, we weren't expecting too much from a museum, but we loved it! Obviously rich in history, the Mangawhai Museum was well designed, stimulating, had a small but great collection of exhibits - well worth a visit.
K.
Amazing museum. Small and interment. Well laid out with lots of information, presented in an inyeresting way
R.
Great little museum but needs more history of the local Maori
G.

A wonderful experience that allows the young and old the opportunity to find out more about the history of the local area. Great for a wet day.

C.
We actually went to Jesse's Cafe for breakfast!
We had a fire alarm go off!! All for th hash brown that was about to be served! Still good breakfast- supporting local!!👍
D.
Surprised at how professional this small town museum was, well worth the visit, good for kids and adults alike.
A.
Friendly staff surprisingly interesting exhibits. Worth knowing all the hard work involved in forming and saving the harbour, and how it helps ecology in the area
B.
A great local asset capturing very interesting info, photos and exhibits about the first settlers. An industrious group of families for sure. Whilst there, check out the preservation of the ketch 'Daring', salvaged from Kaipara beach. (Under the temporary covered shelter, out back). A very rare find, in amazing completeness. There's on-going conservation in prep of permanent display on site. Volunteers and donations are very welcome.
G.
Great displays, wonderful staff & lovely cafe👌
J.
Really cool local museum, great way to check out the history of the local area and all that it has been through. Don't be put off by the admission charge, the museum has to fund itself so paying the charge really does good. The cafe is real nice too, well priced and great range of food and drinks.
A.
A lovely and very interesting museum thoroughly enjoyed it
G.
Very interesting to see the history of the lovely seaside town of Mangawhai laid out beautifully for all to see. Really enjoyed visiting this museum, like all museums around our beautiful country. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
M.
I went to the museum on a coach trip only a few months after it opened. We all enjoyed it, but felt sure that after a couple more years it would be much more established. So it is now high time I visited again
L.
Great place to see the history of the area. Good cafe as well
B.
What a really great museum - one of the best small town museums I've seen. Definitely take your opportunity to visit it if you're in this area - excellent Cafe next door too.
J.
Lovely local museum, displays are well thought out. Staff friendly and helpful. Jessie's cafe does a good coffee too.
R.
Good for rainy day. Funny pricing, adults $12, family $20(2 adults and up to 4 kids), my wife and I didn't qualify for family price due to not having children, so family of 2 adults - $24. It has given us an incentive to have children. 😂
C.
Very well set out, exhibits - some very entertaining and visually interesting. There is also quite a variety of different things. Great for the kids so well worth a look inside when you are driving along the road. It is also another good place in Mangawhai to stop for refreshments.
S.
Has a little bit on everything regarding the local area. The batch toilet was fun (not a real toilet BTW)! The attached Cafe was why we really stopped off and had some great tea's (and the cake was very nice too).
K.
Fantastic Museum! So much history, loved learning more about 'The Big Dig', the Fairy Fern birds and the gold bars still in the harbour. Great coffee and gift shop too. Lovely older man who served us.
C.

Went to Live at the Museum on Saturday 1 Sept and it was fantastic, I had never been through before but the Characters made Mangawhai of old come to life, I hope they run this format again for those that missed this wonderful evening. Christine
D.
A great deal to see here and not just about Mangawhai itself. Local history, future plans and some great information on local families. We didn't leave enough time to go round, do we will be back. The cafe is fine and there is plenty of parking on site. New building works on the go looks as though they have plenty scope for the future too.
A.
