Reviews of Historical Maritime Museum & Park
C.
I stumbled upon this delightful place earlier this week and had a most pleasant overnight stay. The Manager there - Colin - is the nicest person I have met in a long time. He made me feel very welcome from when I walked in the door. He has a great knowledge of things historical and his whole manner is perfectly suited to his role there. He clearly works hard in the gardens to keep everything looking so pleasant. Well done Sir and thank you. Peter who I met later was also very pleasant and accommodating. I will be back.

For everything marine history, from barnacle covered anchors, publications, paintings, artifacts, medals & items salvaged from wrecks, you can't go past this place. Ably run by volunteers, this museum is very much a community fixture that puts on various events & commemorations every year. The Christmas light show takes three months to install & is truly a sight to behold.

Aparently Captain Cook travelled upto this point to find timber for a spar. Nice friendly volunteers willing to describe and explain the various exhibits.

Rich in the history . This was a major port at one time . The caretaker does lots of restoration work on vintage machines . They also have park over facilities for campers . Xmas lights not to be missed . A place that needs our support .

Great and nice friendly people that hosted a school night after a hike we did from Waihi and the place was beautiful and had a lot of historic treasures around every corner with either aviation/train/sea and more. If you come past and interested in the past, this place is great for you. Otherwise if there are school trips that kids need a place to stay in Paeroa then bring tents and stay the night. ((Highly Recommend)) ((historic lovers))

(Translated) Very funny little museum. The maritime subject comes from the fact that Captain Cook would have come to this place by boat going up a river. The welcome was warm. It is a good place to take a break if you are taking a long drive.
(Original)
