Reviews of The New Zealand Timber Museum
S.
If you're into machinery then it's great, it's great that the kids can climb in and over the big stuff. Would be great if there was a little more interpretation for those of us who haven't worked in the timber industry 😀 like how did the use that? What was that for?
P.
Great should be on your must see for all the family and take a picnic. Great if kids could see modern equipment at a sawmill so they can compare how hard it would of been for our forefathers. Could do with more information on some of the tools and equipment such as the acetylene gas making gear but well worth the stop.
C.
Great museum with plenty of reading material to browse through. Loads of old chainsaws from way back, must have been strong men to left them. Enjoyed the viewing!
R.
Extensive collection of Timber milling machinery and local timber history.
I particularly liked the traction engine.
I wonder if an interesting addition would be a display on future green technologies such as wood pellets that will replace coal fired boilers.
What about a return to steam powered saw mills?
K.
Nice collections of old timbers instruments and saw mills instruments. Some tracktors I never seen before. I love this place for entertainment and experience of timbers systems. But they were closed before 3:30pm that day. So please give them a confirmation call before you go over there. Is they open or not. Unfortunately we didn’t see the inside of the museum houses. We will go again next time.

Great collection of equipment from the early settlers through to the 70's which showcase how NZ grew from simple logging through to sophisticated wood processing. Fantastic historical records from several companies, mostly in the Waikato & Bay of Plenty with a few from the King Country. Recommended.

Great displays and history of the early days. The cafe is currently closed for renovations but from what I saw it will be well worth it when finished.

This is such an interesting place to visit. The tour guide who by the way is a volunteer at the museum was very informative. They work very hard restoring and building little areas within the museum. Highly recommended

Allow plenty of time here if you are interested in machinery or the history of timber. The only down side was the small area of taxidermy which is not kept in a way that taxidermy should, in a really disheveled state.
S.
Great place to stop on a long drive. Lots of interesting exhibits. Even when closed there's some attractions still able to be viewed and played upon by children.

(Translated) Nice museum. You have to stop there if you pass by. This allows for a pleasant break. The museum is immediately on the side of the road. In addition, this museum allows you to realize how to live in New Zealand not so long ago. The welcome is friendly.
