Really fun and great experience for all. We caught 6 fish and amounted to roughly $200+ price is reasonable and rod and bait are free. Fish is really easy to catch. Great place to spend the day. They have a playground for the kids and cafe for the adults. You can choose to smoke your fish, keep it fresh or sashimi. I reckon smoking it is the best. The fish taste great as well. Not too oily and big compared to other salmon

From lake to plate experience. Use of rods and bait are free, which is a bonus. The average weight of fish is displayed, so you have a rough idea if the size. We decided to catch 2 fish around 1kg to 1.2kg each, which was more than enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. Have it smoked or Sashimi. You can feed the Tame Eels too, $3 for the feed

This place is a local gem and a must visit. The salmon platters are huge. Try your luck at catching your lunch. The smoking on demand service is amazing. Kid friendly and pet friendly and great grounds.

Got there late in the day , picked up a rod each baiting the hook with a small bit of Samon and voila we had a fish each . Got them both smoked at a cost of $18 . $118 total for 3kg of smoked Samon not to bad for the price of Samon in the supermarkets and that's not fresh . There was 8 other people there all got the same deal . And icing on the pudding we were all in our motorhomes and stayed the night in there car park . And DOG friendly.

Had a great time fishing and eating salmon here. It’s quite easy to catch the fish. It’s a bit pricey, but I guess it’s the price for the fishing experience. Catching and cooking two fishes caused us around 90$. Sashimi was very fresh, however, the salmon was very roughly cut. Smoked salmon was great. Service is alright.

Anatoki Salmon Farm is so beautiful, the environment is amazing and the food is delicious, we got the salmon platter, some chips and veggie bites and it was all delicious. Really good quality experience and I would say a ‘must’ if you’re in the golden bay area. Also a little addition; you NEED to try the hot smoked salmon, it’s so good.

Great experience catching Salmon and having it smoked. Only one bathroom for hundreds of daily customers though is not helping and more toilet facilities are needed for 5 stars. Otherwise a beautiful part of the country and would totally recommend a visit.

This place is really great, it is well maintained so there is plenty of fish to catch, and they cook them to an incredible standard. Even if the weather is poor you can catch the fish and relax under the sheltered cafe, all while watching the salmon jumping. 10/10 would recomend.

We came through in the morning and there was some confusion when we arrived as there was no one to greet us or give instructions as to the fishing rules etc so after 10minutes of waiting around by the rods we just helped ourselves and started fishing! The natural hot smoked salmon was absolutely to die for perfection! I couldn't rate it any higher But the other fish we had turned into sashimi and it was terrible. What we got was a crudly cut up fish and it was hard to eat / a waste, This is a great business and worth the stop, I just hope there is a bit of fine tuning for 5 stars when I return

Fantastic place to visit for lunch. Highly recommend. Amazing variety of salmon options. You can catch your own and they will cook or clean it out to your special requirements. Great place to bring the family for a fun outing. Great facilities, helpful team, easy access to everything for any abilities. Good disabled parking and overflow parking on busy days. Amazing long fin eals that float past while you enjoy your lunch. Good way to understand and learn lots about salmon. Best way to take home some very yummy fresh salmon treats too.

We didn't try the fishing experience, seems fun. We had lunch at the cafe, a large chips and nuggets. The foods were pretty average with reasonable price. They have cute animals, i.e. chickens and pigs. You can feed eels too.

We caught (and ate) our own salmon here. What a great place to visit. We stayed the night with out motorhome (free overnight camping) and then did some fishing in the morning. Great food and fantastic (Dutch) owners as well.

Last time we came to this place (december 2020), the experience was fantastic because you dont need to pay for the fishing, rods are provided with a choice of buying pellets and there are many salmon to be caught. After you catch your salmon, you have a choice to have it smoked (with many different flavour options), sashimi or you can just take it home with you. You can enjoy your salmon with very tasty food in the cafe. The prices for the salmon were also very cheap. After an amazing experience there we decided to go there again, this time in April 2021. There was little to no salmon to catch, there was an abundance of people and it was horrible trying to fish when there are many people around you. We didnt catch any salmon, but we did still eat at the cafe. Overall, this is a great place to go for a catch and cook, but choosing the right time to go also takes place.

Great location, worth the slight detour. Recommend wearing pants along the fishing area as there were sandflies around when we went. If you're lucky enough to catch the salmon, the natural smoke flavour option was delicious! Petting zoo is also not to be missed if you've never seen a kunekune pig

Great place to go and see salmon and maybe catch one or two to take home or catch one and get it smoked for eating there or taking it away. One salmon caught on our trip and had a fillet smoked one way with garlic and herb and one with coriander and ginger, both were outstandingingly delicious! I was sceptical to start the experience but found it to be a fun filled time with a great reward.i would recommend this place to family and friends and travelers who love to have an experience. Rated a must do and I will be going back next time I'm in Golden Bay A+

I was there last Friday morning , stopped to check it out b4 heading to my nxt destination first time at that farm, I enjoyed my experience, caught 3,and I wanna say to the young guy who did the smoking and vacuumed packed them for me, was Delicious!!!!.. DEF. the best I have tasted till now.. Thank you😊😋👍grt job.. Not dry not salty, just perfect..i will be back again when I am ot that way on holiday again😉

This is a nice place to visit. One can try catching fish for free, and the if you do catch something then u have to pay for it. It’s 27$ / kg. I am not sure if anyone catches anything. We tried our luck and failed and so did most of the others with us. Which is ok. Fishing is not an easy sooner. Plus v visited late around 3 pm. Try coming at 9 am if u really want to catch something. The cafe part is ok. As with anything else it is over priced. We went for the platter besides other options. And it was 24$(serves one person) 46$ (serving 2 person) 67$ (3 person) we also had large chips 9.5$ couldn’t believe they were large . Looked more like small. And a salmon pizza which was small to medium in size (10inch) for 20$. Visit for catching fish. Cafe is ok. There is not much to eat around here anyways.

If you love fresh salmon then this is the place to go , it's free until you catch a fish then you pay a small price and they will smoke it in many different flavours or fillet it up for you to take home to enjoy later on. Fishing isn't for everyone so you could enjoy the animals in the petting zoo with the kids or they could play in the small park they have. Overall this place is a beautiful place to enjoy the sun and some fish and chips

We had a lot of fun here. It was pouring down rain but the cafe was warm and dry. Great food and coffee/tea. I caught a massive 3kg salmon and the staff prepared sashimi & Cajun smoked portions to eat in the cafe. I also had another fillet left over to put in my Esky. The staff are all amazing and friendly, they offered great service. I highly recommend visiting here.

The staff were awesome, my fish was delicious! I may have stubbed my toe due to wearing jandels...lol. I love it to the moon n back!! Go there folks, you will walk out doing a jig and smiling!!

A great experience to self-catch the salmon and eat directly over the cafe! It's a free fishing and free equipment to rent, and it will only count once you have catch any salmon. It have the choice to eat in either shasimi or smoke. Recommend the smoke favor:Lemon&Pepper and Basil&Garlic. The salmon is fresh and cheaper than supermarket. Small tips:Request to keep the salmon bone as keep for cook with soup, the soup will have sweet taste with salmon bone. It's yummy!! You will never back with empty hand as it's easy to catch!😉

2 hours of driving from Nelson centre. it is worth to drive there. nice scenery, friendly staff, and tasty food. no cover charge for entry fee and fishing gear hire . And my children loves farm animals too. plan to trip for whole day

Nice place the lady was very nice as we had never been their before and didn't know how to do anything and she explained it all but we weren't so keen on the idea of killing it our self's and she said we could go to the men if we needed help and they were not very friendly they were just rude. Nice restaurant where you can get coked your own salmon ( fish caught by yourself from the farm). Nice family experience. If you don't have enough time to catch your own salmon, you can just order a freshly caught one , cooked in accordance to your instruction.

Just Excellent! Catch your own Salmon (rods provided foc). Thousands of Salmon in the pool, so generally doesn't take long to catch one. Then they cook/smoke it for you. Super fresh Salmon, 20mins to plate, still warm and moist, best thing I have ever tasted! Pay by the kg.

Great place to bring the family for a spot of fishing and a fantastic lunch of fresh caught salmon. Price was $27 per kg with each fish about 1kg, your choice of smoking or fillets (with a small extra cost). No entry fee and the rods and fish bin are free to use. Bait will cost you extra if the kids get a little frustrated at not being able to catch anything. If you are out this way, the small detour off the main road is well worth the time and the onsite cafe serves a good coffee and has some nibbles for the kids.

It has three feeding pond and a big lake for fishing. Basically everything is free here except the catch you got.. We didn't try the fishing so doesn't know how's the fish taste like. But its definitely a nice place to hangout with family and friends!

Generally nice experience a few years ago. Freshly caught salmon sashimi with complimentary soy sauce (3mL). Extra sauce should also be complimentary (it only costs 4 cents per serve, but waitress wanted to charge an extra $1 per serve).

This is a great experience. If you can't catch fish, you can choose to buy some special fish food, but the staff here is very good, they sometimes come out to help people fish, the fish is easy to fish, carefully fishing Too much (*≧ω≦)

We came here expecting to stay an hour but ended up being here almost 4hrs! Amazing place - we had two young children with us too. Food is beautiful and the fishing is great fun. We used one rod between 4 of us and glad we did as when we landed a fish, he was a decent size. Kids fed the eels and the local chickens and family dog are a real cool and engaging with guests too. Highly recommended place and well worth the stop.

What an amazing place and an awesome experience! Spent about 2 hours and we had 2 kids under 5 that were kept busy with the play area and feeding the eels and meeting the animals. Hubby caught a salmon and the chef then smoked it to perfection! Definitely recommend

My wife, four boys, and I had a fantastic day at Anatoki today. The fishing was lots of fun. Our catch was cooked to perfection. All of the kids loved it. Apart from the fishing, there was lots of other interesting things to do. All of the staff were very friendly a'd extremely helpful. We will definitely be back!

This is not a rating for the experience but more due to disappointment of not getting the fish experience. Could we suggest that you have some signage at the main road saying that the fishing was closed for the feb/March period. It is quite the drive to get to Anatoki to find that this was closed. I see this was on your website but we were recommended to go from an information centre who also wasn't aware of this.

Catch your own Salmon, and they do all the messy stuff with it. Best salmon your ever going to eat, various hot smoking options. If you're not the greatest fisherman, they'll help you out. Great scenery in a relaxed setting.

Despite having 0 fishing experience, they were very patient when teaching me how to fish, what to do with the salmon once I landed it, and even came up with several helpful recommendations on the best smoked flavor. The staff are extremely friendly, one that stood out particular was a French man taking us through the process of what to do, he had a great sense of humour and made everyone feel welcome. It was very busy on the particular day I went but our salmon was still prepared in a good time frame, it didn't feel like we were sitting for ages for it to come out. We stayed there for a night on the field next to the cafe. Very nice place with a nice owner and employees. We caught a salmon with the help of one of their employees. Very good for the kids to see and to know where food comes from. The playground was (according to my 3 yr old:) the bomb! We loved the hot and cold smoked salmon very much!

Fantastic place to bring the kids for an almost guaranteed catch fishing experience. After the excitement of the fishing your fish are smoked or cut into sashimi. Great café too with plenty of options including a beer or wine. Great value if you consider price of salmon at shops combined with a fun experience. Been more than 10 times and kids still love it.

We spent a good 2 hours fishing and enjoyed it. We ended up using fish food to catch our salmon due to us being push for time having bing to go somewhere. We did see others catching fish without the fish food and just using the rod with a bate provided on the hook. The smoking of the salmon was honestly the best my husband and i had ever had. We also ordered chips and local wine and beer on the side on their onsite restaurant over looking their salmon pond. We cannot wait to go back next time and bring our family with us. Well make sure to catch more than one salmon and have all them smoked!

SUCH FUN! Went with our two children 9 and 7. We are not experienced fisher-people by any means but the staff helped us catch a fish and my son randomly caught one himself. We had our fish prepared on site, one sushi and the other smoked. Unfortunately there was an accident with our fish being dropped but the staff handled it so well we’re still giving them a five star review. 10/10 would do again!

This place is so cool. This must be my 4th or 5th visit. The Salmon fishing is fun and there is nothing better than eating the salmon you caught, fresh out of the smoker. If you didn't catch anything (unlikely) or don't want to fish the cafe food is amazing. The Platter with a glass of wine on the sunny deck in Spring was probably the best part of our 8 days in golden bay. So delicious.

Great fishing experience and they filleted our catch well. There was a good selection of flavours to smoke your salmon with. EFTPOS wasn't working at the time (could be because cellphone reception is also poor in the area?) so I had to drive all the way back to Takaka to get cash which detracted from the experience.

Fun place to take the kids fishing, had them prepare our catch and it was excellent service. The food here is also great, they will process the fresh fish right in front of you and you can eat it when it’s only minutes old. This is a great place to take kids and adults have a great time too. Plenty of parking and everyone is really friendly and helpful. If you have time stop at this place, you’ll enjoy it.

We visited a while ago now but was one of our favourite spots I’m not sure if it is still the same but it had an organic cafe with outdoor seats and a mini golf. You pre purchase food before walking off to the river to feed the eels you can feed a the animals which my kids loved. Peaceful pleasant day.

It was too easy to catch a salmon on the gear provided. Good if you are hungry and just want to catch some fish too eat, fast. Not so good if you want to enjoy a spot of fishing. We had two salmon in our box, in a matter of a few minutes!

Salmon are pretty easy to get, they will fillet them for you. You can get them smoked, take them raw or even get them cooked & eat there. We got ours smoked, yum. They have a petting zoo for the kids. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Fishing for the salmon requires a certain technique but it is great fun. After the hard work of finally catching one, you get a few options of preparation methods. We decided to try the garlic basil smoked salmon, is was heavenly. Would definitely recommend going here if you are in the area

Pretty hard not to catch anything here! Rods, nets and chili bin provided, bait is $2 for a decent sized bag. It is pretty expensive but I guess you're not just paying for the catch it's the experience. There's a little cafe and you can get your salmon prepared in a variety of ways including a number of smoking options. We had to wait quite a bit for our fish to be prepped so if you're here when it's busy, which it wasn't when we were there, you might want to grab a beer or read your book. There's a few things to dander around and have a look at. It's pretty good for kids with a little playground. Heaps of parking. Staff were friendly enough

Great concept, catch yourself a Salmon they said, get it smoked they said, conceptually great unless you spend two hours of frustration trying to catch one. No skill required, pure luck determines the success or failure of your day. Be prepared for the disappointment as well as the joy of catching one.

Great for anyone who has never caught a fish, get them smoked on site or filleted to take away. Licensed cafe with various drink and food to enjoy with or without your salmon. It has a little playground for the little ones and a animal park where you can feed Eels, Be careful how much fish you catch you have to pay by weight which can get very expensive quick , they have the current price and average weight of fish caught that day so you can work out roughly how much its going to cost.

It would seem the management of this place has gone downhill a bit since my last visit (4 years ago) This visit had us dealing with long lines due to only one person working the till, that was having to run around to a chiller to get drinks as well....unorganized. There was also nobody at the spot where you get gear, we had to go on a hunt to get a bin Our fish was also lacking in flavour. Highly disappointing visit all round, to be honest not sure if we will be back

Lovely day . Sorry to see out of the 5 rods we tried to use 4 needed repairs as did the net which feel to prices when we used it. Non the less we got the two salmon we wanted and enjoyed our time there.

An awesome place to catch the yummy 😋 tasting salmon fished from the pond. 😀 I sat on Willie the Wheelie Walker which has no brakes and I can't swim either. 😀 I planted my feet firmly on the ground to haul in a 1.1kilo salmon while my son lander my fish for me. I caught the biggest salmon even I hadn't used a fishing rod for 23 YEARS. 😀 😁

I totally agree with someone who rated this place saying that "hard NOT to cach anything here" :-) Our whole family, especially the 3 kids, really had great time here. It is worth money and time. Thanks to the cooks who quickly prepared some dishes from the live salmon fishes we had caught. Sashimi made from the live salmon tastes really nice, much better than those served in the restaurant.

We went there on away when there was very heavy rain so the cafe was closed because of the lack of tourists a little disappointing since we had turned up to have lunch so very hard to rate the service. Such a noval experience. Be carefull not to catch too many as cost builds quick. Takes a while to catch any, would recommend buying a 2 doller bag of fish food and throwing it around your hook to attract fish. 5 or 6 hot smoked flavours to chose from. Would strongly suggest eating straight away with their garlic bread...yummm.
