Reviews of Kawau Cruises & Kawau Water Taxis
I.
Booked this Royal Mail Run cruise.
Full price is $88 plus $27 for a BBQ meal.
The booking staff were polite and said to be 30min early as parking was 15 min away.
Reached at 10am for the 10.30 departure. The parking was on a side street, with cars everywhere and a good walk to the Jetty( so if you have kids and picnic gear be aware)
The vessel is an older one, not a cruise type but as the name suggest Mail Run.
Cannot fault the staff on board. The lunch was a simple one( I think I will skip it if I go again).
The view is nice from the boat and the Mansion House island is lovely.
It will be a good choice to go directly to Mansion House and skip the bbq, as you get more time on the Island for all your activity’s as you will get only 2..5 hours if you want to return on the 2pm run.
It would be really good if there was a service leaving at 9 am so all could enjoy a bit more.
J.
Had a wonderful day. Mansion house is very interesting. Kawau island is beautiful. Robyn with the royal mail cruise is a lovely girl. Thank you Robyn for not making us scrub the decks when we lost our ticket 🌞
M.
Wonderful experience. Cafe on the island. Fascinating tour inside the mansion house, with loads of history. Gorgeous scenery on the mail run cruise with bbq lunch on board.
R.
Great lunch, our complements to the staff who prepared it for us on board the ferry and thanks to to the captain for his knowledge of Kawau Island.
What a day to go out with full sun and no rain in sight.
Cheers
Ross & Barbara Sutherland

This is my second time visiting Kawau Island. The first time I visited was during the weekend and the cruise and the island was pretty busy but the second time I went during a week day and there was just a hand full of people! It was like your private Island. Perfect for a good picnic and plenty of spaces for the kids to run around. Couple of good walking tracks. The cafe in the island is closed so make sure you bring your own snacks. Never ever feed the peacocks on the island coz they will never leave ur side. Also just look where you place your mat, the birds seem to poop everywhere!
J.
Just stunning, jump off point for delivery of new Winerackers wine racks to Kawau.
G.
The Royal Mail Cruise lets you see the other parts of the island, the houses, and their jetties. Unfortunately, some tracks were closed due to fallen pine trees. I got a good deal from BookMe; otherwise, I wouldn't pay full fare for the ferry ride.
K.
Rueban and the team go the extra step to help the passengers enjoy their trip to Kawau and on charters.
C.
I have used this service to get out to Kawau Island more than once for both personal and business groups. They are efficient and friendly. The walks over the Island beautiful safe and well maintained.
F.
Great atmosphere and scenery. Knowledgeable fun friendly staff. We had the lunch deal of salmon and steak which was delicious. Great day out do it again for a little bit longer time on the island.
S.
Great cruise to Kawau island. Enjoyed the lunch and the informative commentary from the skipper.
B.
Lovely quiet part of the world. Nice views around the harbour and marina
D.
Such an awesome island to explore, especially around mansion house!
d.
Boats and kayak launch off the boat ramp at the end of the spit. Lovely place to kayak up to Matakana and back. Shame car park is restricted
T.
Friendly staff who are very helpful over the phone and in person!
M.
Great place here thanks. Friendly staff.
S.
Did the Royal Mail Cruise. Covered the entire West coast of Kawau Island. The captain gave a running commentary and the crew cooked up a lovely BBQ lunch . Pays to book especially if you want lunch on board. Worth the money. Car parking is free at Sandspit . A great day on the water.
p.
Great place great trip loved it to bits heaps of history plus a great team of people involved with the running of the boat plus the people running the Mansion house side of it.when we arrived there to have a look through the Mansion House
S.
I rang and booked the Mail cruise 24hrs before departure to ensure that we would be able to have the lunch provided on the boat. I was advised of the price of $27.50 each but when on the boat, when I went up to collect the lunch, I had not been given a voucher and was rudely brushed aside and told that they would check with their office as to what had happened. This woman did not come and see me at all to advise what had happened and it was very disappointing to have to sit on the boat and watch everybody else eat their lunch. No explanation or apology given, nothing! Not impressed.
M.
Great place for beach boat launches!
H.
We did the cruise with lunch absolutely fantastic and real value for money the cruise crew were great and the cook excelled herself with a perfectly cooked steak recommend the experience along with the Mansion House tour as an add on the attendant was extremely knowledgeable about the house and it’s history overall great way to spend a day
R.
Great place but need to do something about the parking
R.
Once you get to Kawau 10/10,question-why no life jackets on the water taxi?
C.
Very peaceful and quiet. Just have a coffee and watch the boats and tide. Great caramel slice at the Cafe too.
L.
Beautiful island with a nice old house and couples of peafowl.
F.
Excellent day out. The lunch was lovely, staff friendly and helpful. The island itself was magnificent and we were even lucky enough to spot Orchas in the harbour. Highly reccomend.
K.
Beautiful views
T.
Ok. Not bad. Would i do it again? Probably not.
B.
So easy and really lovely people. We caught the mail ferry on our way there which was an awesome tour of the island and then we had a private water taxi when we left. Both skippers were friendly and chatty and the woman I spoke to in the office on Friday 23 Nov before our 4pm ferry was awesome, so helpful
R.
Great location, friendly hosts, food choices... average, no toilets
J.

L.
Great place for brekky. I had Eggs Benedict, it was perfectly cooked and the portions were generous, served with a nice large pot of English-, no sorry, New Zealand, breakfast tea! Gorgeous food and gorgeous views out over the harbour, what's not to love!!
S.
Great day out on the mail run cruise - comfortable boat, informative commentary along the way, and helpful, friendly crew. Island was scenic, although we didn't venture very far due to the weather. Wonderful tea + scones in the café while being entertained by the peacocks and weka, Mansion House full of history. Very enjoyable day out.
T.
Great access to ferry but limited day parking.
D.
Serviceable - parking a bit limited so arrive early. Could do with more shade while waiting for ferry to load as the sun really beats down
B.
Superb wee spot the Cafe is rustic with great staff and the breakfast was really well done
J.
Fishing not aloud during the day but good for dusk and dawn fishing. Cafe and little shop there. Nice wharf👍
D.
An excellent day out
Fairly packed boat when we left from Sandspit but after dropping off half of the passengers at Mansion House we continued up Bon Accord harbour and then around to the copper mine
An appetizing steak and salad lunch was served with a beer to wash it down.
We returned to Mansion House , did the tour , had an icecream and jumped back on the boat for the return trip.
Thoroughly enjoyed by all those onboard
K.
The place to sail to Kawau island

Fantastic day out, would definitely recommend for a bit of history and gorgeous scenery. Boat crew were lovely too!
I.
Enjoyable scenic walk down and along to the wharf with lots of bird life. Good to see and chat with the local N.Z. locals fishing. Another secret area to enjoy day or night.
R.
Great service fully recommend 👏
S.
There is plenty of secure parking available at very reasonable rates. Their new electronic payment system makes this place quick and simple to use. The cafe on the wharf also does great food, perfect for a wholesome breakfast before heading out for a day on the water.
R.

The departure point for the ferry to Kawau Island. Governor Greys Mansion House is located on the Island. My son also lives on the Island. Wild Kiwi can often be heard and on those lucky occasions, you just may see one. In all my years, I have only encountered one, so its a special gift.
H.
Friendly and helpful staff. The only issue is how long it takes to get parking paid for after a sunny weekend. We stood in a line for over 30 minutes in order to pay for our parking. Auckland Transport need to get this site added to their parking app
J.
