Reviews of Packard Motor Museum
H.
Was a fantastic visit to the museum with my toddler son who had an absolute ball. A huge, impressive collection of not only vehicles but antique appliances and collectables that brought many memories from visits to my grandparents house as a child. Mal the in house tour guide there was awesome and is very knowledgable with some great stories. Highly recommend!
M.
Go there, see the amazing collection , not just cars, trucks machinery , there is more to see than you can shake two sticks at …
H.
Very interesting place to visit with a variety of amazing vintage cars both restored and in the process. Fantastic selection of motorcycles, the highlight for me. A real blast from the past if you want to see some of the vehicles your mums and dads, or grand parents drove. Lovely guide too.
I.
Mel is no passionate and full of information. He gave us an amazing introduction to the museum and then let us explore at our own speed. He was always available to answer questions and tell us stories of the past. If you are anything like me and love obscure history, this is the place for you. Even my 12 year listened to Mel in awe.
B.
Huge collection of cars, tractors and trucks. But also quite a number of vintage motorcycles.
M.
An absolute must visit for the auto enthusiast or engineer in the family. Good mixture of vehicles as well as the biggest collection of Packard Automobiles you will find. Personal tour with group discounts. Will definitely visit again.
A.
Deserves 5 stars for the size and diversity of the collection, not only of cars but also motorbikes, engines, tools and other objects that give a glimpse into Northland's and NZ's past. Considering its origins as one couple's passion, it is quite staggering and the simplicity and friendliness of staff fits this spirit. I'd recommend taking both oldies and young ones together: seniors will surely share their memories, prompted by so many items from everyday life.
N.
This man is a gatherer of stories and tells them well!
Allow a few hours to get the whole Fenton experience.
There's so much to see. Some of it is passed it but so much is interesting and has a story to it.
Great way to spend a day if you like cars, bikes, trucks, construction equipment, rifles, phones, etc etc.
D.
Great range of vehicles including some amazing Packards. Having to have a guide is annoying. I managed to sneak off and take plenty of pictures. One shed had the Packards, traction engines, a fire engines and a few other bits. Upstairs were motorbikes and rifles? I want interested. Another shed had English vehicles of my youth. The big shed at the back head road and farm machines. I didn't go in there.
D.
Certainly a wonderous collection mainly of the eponymous vehicles but also English cars of my youth. A huge group of motor bikes and I think rifles, I wasn't interested in those. There are also bigger sheds of machinery including steam traction engines and stationary engines. Insisting that you have a guide is pretty silly. I managed to sneak off and take lots of pictures.

Well worth a visit. Takes around 2 hours to have a relaxed guided tour where you can browse around while listening to interesting infomation. Of course there is a large range of Packards, but also many other cars, tractors, trucks, motorbikes, steam engines, and mixed in with general antiques. If you loved "roached" metal you will have a great day. Was interesting to see the Landrover the Queen used in 1953 (you can even have your photo in the back) or one of Eisenhowers Limousines. Thank you for a great day.
M.
Lovely little museum with some real gems. Knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. Stop in for a visit if you're ever passing through Maungatapere.
R.
Excellent must see attraction for all ages, even for the not so interested.
Plenty of sights to see and a large range of historic cars, tractors, motorbikes, dozers, weapons, historic devices such as telephones, sewing machines, cooking, etc
A.
Hospitality was awesome. The kids really enjoyed exploring all the nooks and crannies and machines. Thankyou for the afternoon! Was a good stop on a wet day.
P.
Fantastic collections, The Best Tour Guide ever, would definitely revisit.

My family took my father here for his 70th birthday, and what a trip down memory lane for him! He loved pottering around the cars from his child hood and inspecting the expert craftsmanship. We initially factored in about 2 hours here, but after 4.5 hours we walked out. Tim the tour guide was an absolute legend and his knowledge behind just about every item here is amazing, he even fired up an old supercharged Packard which was pretty epic for everyone in our group. I highly recommend this place for both young and old, we took my sisters kids who are 8 and 4 and they had an absolute ball

WHAT A FANTASTIC PLACE. in the middle of nowhere. As well as the rare fabulous elegant Packard cars. The owner has a collection of much great stuff, graders and bulldozers, really interesting old motors with different engine designs. Vintage motorcycles, Steam tractors. A well used machine gun.... Who has a collection of old road graders??? Don't miss it.
A.

Went there today, was shown around by Tom, very knowledgeable guy who made the tour very interesting. There are various exhibits, mainly motor vehicles, some beautifully restored and others showing their age. Tom knew the history of lots of the vehicles. I particularly enjoyed looking at the 100+ motorcycles. A lovely place, well worth the visit.
R.
Was shown around by Tom the owner, very affable chap who made the tour amazing. There are various exhibits, mainly motor vehicles, some beautifully restored and others showing their patina. Tom knew the history of the vehicles and the story behind them. A lovely place, well worth the visit. It’s full of passion of everything mechanical. You just gotta meet Tom
H.
Excellent collection. This is Northland's awesome
best known secret and is well worth a visit. Full of unique and rare vehicles from a by-gone era. Allow at least 2 hours, camera and comfortable shoes recommended.
P.
Not just Packard, great selection of motorbikes and British cars plus wide range of other vehicles including army vehicles, steam driven tractors, fire engines, plus telephones, sewing machines and other less known items which were interesting also, many with back stories which are truly fascinating and brought to life by our guide who was included in the price. May not be quite as flash as some places but the range and depth of what was on display more than made up for it and I cant speak highly enough of our guide. This place is a treasure. Highly recommended
P.
Had a fantastic tour given by Mel lovely arrival and payment taken by a lovely lady. Very informative and knowledge given by Mel. Nothing was out of his mind depth and the pace the tour takes gives you all the time you need. Mel is funny and informative and very passionate about the job he does giving you 100% of his attention at all times.
D.
You have to come and see all these on off exhibits and special pieces of history , yourselves !
There is too much to tell you and not enough information written about each exhibit ! They need more volunteers and you'll understand why when you enter the shed with the bulldozer in it ! Lol
The Packard Motor Museum, is not what I expected ! It does have cars bikes, trains and buses but it also houses anything that has or had a Motor , to help it operate!
It was extremely good value for my money ! £25 and I should gave stayed longer!
I shall visit again and take another new willing visitor, along to see if the Trust, has taken, on, any new volunteers, yet ? It Can , sometimes , feel like , a closed shop, the Charitable Trusts idea ! It hasnt out me off as, I'm now a member of 3 and soon a volunteer in all 3 museums, I hope!
J.
Excellent collection of motorbikes, cars and construction vehicles
P.

J.

M.
Guided tour, a long walk through 4 large buildings. Lots of information given. History of vehicles, many vehicles easily recognised as owned by family members in days gone by. Go once, you will return with friends.
R.
Excellent but allow plenty of time (1-2 hours). It's guided tours only and there is plenty to see. In addition to the cars & machinery several other collections including motorcycles, communications gear, even potato mashers!
M.
An amazing collection of automotive history very attentive and accommodating staff hours of things to look at would highly recommend do if you've got a free afternoon
M.
Beautiful old Packards galore but this place is so much more than that.
We did one of the twice yearly start up guided tours where you get to hear some of these old engines running. V12's straight 8's and more. Well worth the $20 entry for that alone. Then there's the classic motorbikes, classic Brit cars, all sorts of oddball bits and pieces. The antique gun room, trucks, bulldozers, the odd armoured car, a V12 Merlin engine, a Lycoming rotary, it goes on and on. Much is sitting in the sheds as found and awaiting restoration which only adds to the enjoyment of the place.
We will certainly be back.
K.
