Intermediate hike of about 2 hour/ 5 hours via deadmans track.
Beautiful views on the way. Amazing view from the top. Beautiful hut. Heaps of firewood. It got toasty after 30m.
Few sharp edges on the way.
Everyone should try horopito leaf at least one.
Chew one leaf 3-4 times and can eat more if you like. 🔥 It's hot

So beautiful hike, took us 3hrs to the Rangi hut, we then went on to the Mt.Mangahuia and then took Deadman's track back to the car park, a total of 21km.

Great hut for families....good 2 hour walk up to the hut, plenty of snow....only 1 other when we got there. Heaps of firewood, toasty when fire going...looking forward to next year...

Intermediate/advanced walk that will get you’re heart pumping. Beautiful arched bridge along the way and the hut is clean and spacious, with a great outdoors area, definitely worth a stay!

Hoping this review will help others plan their trip ☺️ It took us (3 somewhat fit mid-30 y/o's) 1 hour 40 mins to get to the hut from the carpark in pouring rain (rain so bad we had to drive slowly with our windscreen wipers on full). The hut was clean and tidy, and we had a bit of cellphone reception. There are a few packs of playing cards on the table. There is no gas or cookers like the Great Walks, but there is a sink just outside the front door with water to be boiled. The hut is "serviced" though when we were there this seemed to only mean firewood is available...there is no toilet paper or candles to put in the candle holders (there are no solar lights either). The hut is just one open room and (provided there is room) you can stay on the floor without a booking..but obvs its best to book and support DoC by paying the minimal fee. Camping outside the hut is free and a booking isn't required but there is limited flat ground (i.e. probably 2 spaces). There are a few hooks to hang wet gear on, and a couple of pieces of line from the roof too with a small number of pegs. The hut is lovely and warm with the fire going, and stayed warm most of the night.

One of my favourite huts. An easy 2 hour walk up to the hut. Small pool next to track 5 minutes from the hut to wash/dunk in. Stunning views from hut. Important to book in summer as it is fairly small.

Had the hut all to ourselves. Lovely views. The fire kept us warm and cozy.

Hut is nice, gets damp on the inside from condensation but nothing too crazy. Fits 12ish people but the fire is the real star of the show, perfect if you've just come out of the rain when it's cold as the hut is spacious and allows for the heat to travel everywhere. Views are great if the weather isn't foggy which is common, especially in winter.

I'm not fit or young, it was challenging, I did get up in a bit over three hours, it was dusk when I got to the top. The party I went with made dinner, said it was a medium hard walk, overall I found it beautiful, varied and an absolute delight when I got to the top. After a sound sleep in the hut, a bacon butty, coffee and taking photos we set off back down, that made the trip to the hut worthwhile, it was stunning, the weather was perfect; good company helped, but the well maintained track with toilets and water at the hut made it a great experience. Recommended for any trampers; fit ones will complete in under 3 hours!

Beautiful hut

Amazing views. Expect about three hour walk if unfit. It's uphill the whole way. There is a bench seat with a good view about 2/3 of the way up. Enjoy the views from the top. You can set mount Egmont and Ruapehu in the distance on a clear day

Awesome track. Good quality track with easy footing. Awesome views.

Went up via Deadman’s track and then headed down from hut.
Not a large hut but it is cosy and well maintained.Log burner with a wood shed. From here there are panoramic views of Ruapehu and Ngaruhoe.
Heading down it is around 1.5 hours easy stroll through native bush.
There are steps in places along the way and a magnificent bridge with best photos taken after walking across bridge and up the hill.
Great walk.
There are toilets at the carpark before you set off.

Incredible views from the hut but be prepared for a lot of up hill to get there! Hut will comfortably sleep 8. Has a fireplace, table, stainless steel bench, two toilets.
C.
A great hike on a well made track. Excellent hut that has been well looked after. Fireplace that can be cooked on and a large firewood store.

Great walk, highly recomended

This was a good tramp for me. Did it during the winter and right after a snow storm had passed through so it was ice and snow all the way to the top. Still, the sights were really lovely. I'd go back again, during warmer weather just to see what it would be like.

Thoroughly enjoyed my walk up into RANGIWAHIA HUT today, set off from carpark at 10 a.m, got to hut in 2 hrs 5 mins. Had something hot to eat for lunch, good large cup of coffee, change into some warm dry clothes, felt much better. Heard the rain coming down so I made a dash for it, left the hut at 1p.m because I was concerned that the stream, water rushing off the tops would rise & as I thought it had double in gushing water, got out quick. arrived back at carpark 2.30 p.m. home safely ****

Short, steep track, well worth the views on a clear day. Nice tidy hut, no gas cooking provided, nice new long drop toilets with wicked paint job!
