We are regular guests here and I arranged this visit as a birthday treat for my daughter who really enjoys the pool areas and other recreational facilities on site. The room was clean and tidy (although a little dated), but in a lovely quiet area which was much appreciated. The card and chocolates for my daughter was a lovely gesture, and the meal in the evening was wonderful and she was treated as a VIP there as well.
For a short break, just after Christmas this was superb.

We feel the grounds and amenities, pools and gardens are beautiful. The staff attentive and friendly. It does have a lovely resort feel .Great for families .
Unfortunately hotel rooms, lobby, restaurants all in need of a major renovate and air con units put into rooms. The rates should be considerably cheaper until hotel updated.

Very good location short drive into the main city, close to the Wairakei Terraces and can include pass with booking. Also had some chargers for electric vehicles which was brilliant. We only stayed the one night but would like to come back again for longer

Let us accept that this hotel is aging but the service levels are very high indeed. I was travelling to Wellington but needed to stop over night midway. I called reception and made a booking - the attentiveness of the person answering the call was 5 star. She was human and got me a great deal including breakfast. It is the people that make a hotel - well done
J.
Bit dated but great value place to stay with the kids. Great amenities. Would love to go back when no restrictions on dining, spa pools etc. We have stayed twice. EV charging: two Tesla destination chargers and two type 2 plugs (being your own cable though). Hot pools are nice. Trampoline and swings for kids.
i.
We had 3 great night's stay here. Right from the start, the lady at reception was awesome and helped us out, the room was lovely and spacious. Clean and we'll presented, even with great views, out the double doors, of the grounds. The park like grounds were wonderful and the setting superb.
Again the customer service in the restaurant was fabulous and we were looked after so well. The meals were fantastic.
Return visit is a must, without any hesitation

We stayed for our 10th anniversary and were blown away by the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. They upgraded our room and thought of everything for our two children so we didn't even have to ask. Kris was so helpful and accommodating and went above and beyond for us. All the staff were so nice and got us everything we needed. The pool was lovely, playground for kids was great! Squash court and gym was awesome too. There was plenty to enjoy even on a rainy day. We have stayed a few times at Wairakei and although some minor aspects of the hotel like some carpet/ wallpaper, etc, need some updating here and there as most places do after a while, the staff and facilities make up for anything like that. And it is very reasonably priced. We have made Wairakei one of our regular places to stay! Thank you so much!

We have been coming for quite a few years. The booking and reservations team take a personal interest in me and my wife needs, Kris and Felix and the others, and are always most helpful and accommodating - please pass on my thanks. The room and property are very relaxing and we like staying in our favorite room locations. Wiaora block downstairs in the 500 series, right opposite the pool, which we use morning afternoon .Sitting outside our room in the hot evenings in the shade was great. We love the green parklike nature of the property
All the staff are very helpful and courteous
Food wise we love the breakfast in the large Pavilion restaurant - sets us up for the day. Unfortunately the food in the evening at the Pavilion was quite average on the night we went there. This is an experience we have had on prior visits. SO we elected to go in to Taupo to Thai restaurant on other nights. The Room service meal was good though, being the Lamb burger, which is probably a meal you cant go wrong on.
We do love the experience overall, but would dine in more often if the meals were better
Kind Regards
Barry and Susan Larsen
C.
We can't say enough about the restaurant food - it was exceptional and the staff were extremely good. We chose to eat there every night of our stay purely because of the food and the level of service.
K.
Our room was very dated. Shower over the bath, dated carpets Very expensive and disappointing for
what it was. We had a few issues that were quickly sorted out and upgraded to a better room. However the xmas dinner was superb. Definitely 5 stars for that. The gift of the gingerbread house was a wonderful suprise. So appreciated. Amazing meal.
a.
The staff member we dealt with was very abliging to our needs. Our room looked like it needed a fresh coat of paint and the furniture was faded and looked old. We did get moved to another room which was more or less the same only bigger in size, it also had a balcony which was nice.
M.
Overall, had a great stay. Great location and plenty to do there. Parts of hotel looking abit tired and disappointed in our breakfast's as they were delivered to our rooms (choice of 3 options) as opposed to in the restaurant
D.
Relaxing, friendly service, peaceful surroundings, swimming pool area warm and comfortable, room is compact, sufficiently equipped, quiet and restful. Really lovely and fresh walking areas. Good value.
C.
Stayed for 4 nights in a Superior Twin at the resort. The High Tea was a cut above the rest. The rooms and bathroom are not new but the staff and overall experience more than made up for that. The evening meals were great, pools fantastic and I would stay there again anytime. Great food, great people and great facilities. The spa across the road is a real treat!
D.
Okay so not the most modern facility but the resort makes up for this with good service and nice food. Room 509 situated opposite the heated pool was tidy and had a nice outdoor area with 2 chairs and a table. Great value for money. Though breakfast was only available as a takeaway it was well worth it.
L.
Hotel was at capacity however staff managed well. Pools need shade options as in the midday sun the kids were roasting.
Breakfast buffet was chaos and needed scheduled seating or option to have room service.
R.
Awesome place to stay with comfortable rooms, lovely outlook and plenty of amenities. The staff were very friendly, and the position of the resort was near enough to Taupo town but also fairly secluded with beautiful bush and surroundings.
It's a brilliant place for family or friends to get together and with golf, tennis and hot pools it has everything to delight everybody.
E.
A fantastic spot to base yourself out of to make the most of the Taupo cycle trail network. Ride from your room.
This bike-friendly resort has secure lockup and washdown facilities, as well as a friendly local cycle loop through the grounds.
v.
Location 5, Staff 5, Outdoor amenities 5, Rooms 2, WiFi 2. I stayed here numerous times in the 90s. It would seem the rooms have not been touched since then? Very tired and definately not 4 star. Shabby carpets, cracked hand basin, old style shower over bath. Wifi was choppy and couldn't even maintain a VPN connection for my remote access. Have never had issues like this in a hotel in recent years. Staff were great and very friendly. I didn't eat here so cannot comment. Needs a big refurb otherwise fine.
H.
Wonderful resort.
Very comfortable rooms, awesome pools and spa pools, delicious breakfast as well!
j.
everything was really good, everyone very helpful and friendly.
Only thing I struggled with was trying to find what equipment was in the kitchen of the family room.
Also could get the configuration of the beds for 5 people off the booking /web site eg queen bed in separate room and 3 singles in the lounge
R.
Had a great time here. Didn't have to go into Taupo, relaxing poolside area to have food and a drink. Close to cycling tracks, the room we had was on the 2nd floor looking out at the pool area sooo relaxing.
S.
Overall I enjoyed the stay, but I can't quite give it 5 stars. The room was nice, the bed was big and soft, and the spa bath (room specific) was AMAZING! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and all adhered to Level 2 restrictions. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is that the decor/carpeting/etc was rather dated. For luxury-esque accommodation and the cost for a night, the dated look did make it feel less luxurious. On the fence as to if I would stay again in future.
G.
As always our stay at Wairakei Resort was great. We come back here every year and bring our Adult children and Grandson too.
We all enjoy it. The facilities are good, the staff are all excellent & attentive. Especially the Bar Manager. He welcomes us like old friends.
The only downside this year was the breakfast. We had to collect it from the Restaurant each morning which was rather annoying. This was due to COVID, so understandable, but could find a better solution.
m.
lovely location, lovely staff full recommend. If hot tho and u have a room with no air con, room too hot and we had no fan in our first room
A.
Wonderful experience for our Guests and our family and friends Event, the staff were fantastic and went out of their way to fulfil our needs. Accommodation was fabulous, everyone took the opportunity to use the Resorts, golfing, swimming, playground etc.
C.
Bit disappointed with the overall stay and food at the restaurant. A large family group who disrespected the other guests and played loud music around the pool and at 7.00am every morning while doing a workout.
C.
Grest place to stay and stayed an extra night. Had issues with the breakfast as when booked the Resort was doing a Buffet Breakfast which as we were with a family group would have been a prefered option for us. Room service breakfast was not hot on arrival, and would have prefered it was served on a hot plate and cover and real cutlery as our evening room service meal was.
Staff were excellant and professional.
E.
We always enjoy Labour weekend at the resort but Level 2 made it a bit more challenging. Not being able to have breakfast in the dining room with 6 adults in two different rooms made it un-social. The breakfast was not enjoyable and cold every morning. Perhaps booking a small amount in the dining room would be a better option
J.
Excellent place for the family wanting swimming pool, jacuzzi and playground area for the kids.
Service personal is excellent and very helpful, Management should be very proud of them so friendly and Kind and very informative on what you have to offer here, def recommend to others
N.
Changed alot pro-covid but still a good place to cm relax and spend in pool. Although the restaurants are closed for general meals, they do provide food packed meals but very basic...so maybe take your own snacks and water etc.
L.
We were allocated a invalids room , where the shower head was 5foot off the floor not good for tall people.
The water pressure in the shower at 7am was very low.
The evening meal was excellent.
The breakfast utensils made off wood or cardboard were terrible not becoming of a resort.
J.
Still a lovely resort staying here again after many years. Great welcome, comfy bed, great food in the restaurant. However we feel the internal colour choice throughout could do with an upgrade with more vibrancy, its a bit boring, could take on the colours of its wonderful setting.
D.
For the past 2 years we've run 2 day residential workshops here and love the hospitality, IT back up support, and catering. The size of the Graham 1 conference room enables us to segment the room into different work spaces and extend outside, weather permitting. (I don't want to recommend too much, or the room won't be available when we'd like it😉).
R.
Clean, friendly staff, dated buildings and facilities. Disappointed with Restaurant. One of our orders was sent back 3 times to be cooked as requested. Not good service. Pool great. Breakfast disappointing, served in room on a cardboard take away type tray and cold. Bacon and eggs not good when cold. Be a while before we return.
t.
A lovely welcome at Reception. Information about the Resort and map given. Great facilities. Very clean throughout the Resort. Fabulous breakfast, great staff there as well. Definitly recommend to friends and family. Look forward to returning for a longer stay and trying the restaurant and bar.
b.
Great location peaceful setting. Has its own 9 hole golf course. Hot pools swimming pool comfortable beds. Range of options. Become a member online and get free breakfast.
J.
We really enjoyed our two night stay!! The staff were wonderful and helpful and cheerful. The pools were fantastic and we were in them twice a day. Rooms were clean and worked for our family of four. The grounds were beautiful! The inside was a little dated/tired but this didn't bother us at. Really enjoyed our breakfast buffet here too.
A.
Friendly staff , really clean Resort and staff are very helpful. Fabulous meals and the pool is very warm and relaxing, they have a tennis court, a bar , a restaurant with beatiful meals and direct access to the golf course via a walkway under the road. Plenty of space outside in the massive park like grounds for the kids to play in . I'd be very happy to stay there anytime I'm in Taupo
E.
The drinks service was very slow. I had a fork with bent tines. Main meal was delicious as was the garlic bread but the dessert which was a vegan lava cake was a big miss, I wish they had the real deal lava cake with oozy centre.
I wouldn't go back unless it was a buffet.
J.
We stayed and really enjoyed our stay. Great place, lovely grounds and very helpful staff.
I have one small issue that could be solved at no cost to you. I have been following a particular TV series on Choice. But no free to air channels except 1, 2 and 3! Please make Prime, Maori and Choice available. A staff member tried hard to help but to no avail.
P.
Having destination chargers for EVms were a bonus, 4 hours after plugging in I was full ready for my next trip. Complementary breakfast was not fine dining , but filling and a good choice. The meal we had in the restaurant was well presented with a very good choice
D.
Another great stay, will be coming back every year for our Anniversary's...
H.
Wairakei is an awesome hotel, but we were really disappointed that we hadn't been told the buffet breakfast was cancelled and that the room service menu re breakfast was very limited. Wairakei breakfasts are one of the reasons we stay - this was really disappointing. What we received in the mornings wasn't always nice - the food was cold and quiche isn't everyone's idea of breakfast. Our room was only serviced once in 3 days. We had to wash our own cups after asking for washing up liquid, no clean towels and no replacement of coffee. Sorry guys but this time wasn't your finest. If we had been told of these things prior to coming I would have brought dish-wash liquid and a tea-towel. Doing dishes in the bathroom sink not ideal. It would have been nice to have known this before paying so much.
B.
I had one main issue. We paid quite a lot of money for a room for 2 Adults and 2 Teenage children. One Boy and one Girl. When we got to our room, we found a King Sized bed and a single bed. Went back to reception again. We were told that we could use a bed that pulls out of the bottom of the single bed and basically you have to sleep on the floor. We tried this option, after moving the spiders off it. The bed was like sleeping on the floor and uncomfortable. Went back to reception again to be advised that they don't cater for families of 4, in providing adequate bedding. We were then offered a trundler bed, in which I replied if I wanted to go camping, I would have chosen a camping weekend away. The other options were, we could pay for a 2nd room across the other side of the resort for the kids to stay in, or our family could swap to another room which had 2 king size beds. Kids chose not wanting to sleep together in that. Never stayed at a motel or hotel with this problem before. I do expect when we pay to have a night away everyone gets a proper bed.
C.
The resort is well laid out with a good assortment of amenities. Its proximity to golf courses and hot pools makes it an ideal place for families, or couples.
The resort is affordable, with a good priced breakfast available.
Aspects of the resort are a little tired. The carpets and some aspects of the rooms do need some work, but as the resort is so busy most of the year, it would be difficult to make remedial measures.
J.
2nd time here. Love the location and amenities. However, rooms a little dated, our curtain rail broke, and poor wifi coverage in our room. Very friendly staff.
N.
We booked 2 Huka twin rooms for our 2 families (10 total) over Akl Ann wknd just gone 28/1/22 - 31/1/22. We absolutely loved our stay & would totally recommend this place for families. While it may be a little dated (decor wise), the facilities & service were absolute value for money. We signed up for membership benefits which included free daily breakfast that was delivered to our rm each morning. Our kids loved the pools & playground & us adults loved all the other things on offer like the gym, restaurant & bar, tennis courts, golf range, spa's & lots of close parking etc. They have accommodation options to suit just about every budget & need. It felt really safe no matter what time of the day it was & I loved seeing that even at night, it was a hive of activity across the whole resort with families utilizing everything on offer.
A couple of things to note was the price of food. It was yr typical "hotel type" prices (Eg $8 for a small bowl of fries, $18 for 4 chicken wings). If you want to get more for yr $, you're better off going to town & either doing a small supermarket shop or ordering yr lunch/dinner meals. No biggie.
-also a microwave & air con would've been nice in the huka rooms but the was a ceiling fan & big opening doors so it wasn't unbearable.
We will def be having more family wknds away here as we less than an hr away. We'll done Team Wairakei, keep up the great work guys👍
L.
Awesome place 4 a hoilday would recommend everyone to stay here nice clean hotels fun 4 everyone ...we will be back again also the team left me a box of chocolates and card which I thought was so cool 4 my birthday.. thanks team at waitakei resort Taupo U guys rock💯giving U guys 5star🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
P.
I booked in for 3 nights at this resort, and I am very thrilled with the professional service I received.
My room was perfectly clean, ( people need to understand that not all rooms will be equipped with toasters/ kitchen sink /plates etc, but only coffee making facilities. family units/villas are the ones to book if you may require that convenience.
My room was adequate for my needs, the room service was prompt and friendly. My dinner buffet was awesome and so was breakfast, the staff with dinning were fantastic! And kind to my son and othe guests children.
The hot pools were hot and big ! Open till 11pm, for all people to enjoy,
I really much enjoyed my stay and I felt my vehicle was safe in parking facilities. I will return absolutely 💯 %
d.
The rooms are nice and very clean, amenities are brilliant. The numerous spa's, 2 thermal pools and the fact that there open till 11pm are awesome. Walking around the resort is beautiful. The gym is great and the sauna is a bonus. Would we stay again, definitely.. recommend to all. Staff so friendly so that for us topped it off. Thanks guys
S.
Spent our 40th wedding anniversary here.
The staff were amazing and made a card for us and decorated our desert plate. Truely lovely experience thankyou.
R.
We enjoyed our stay as we have been here a number of times. Nice staff, enjoyed meal and pool Room a little dated esp bathroom
M.
First class treatment from check in to check out. Front desk gentlemen both very obliging and friendly. Showed us further rooms so we can make good decisions next time we book online. Very happy with our Junior Suite tho. Breakfast has great selections and we had a lovely dinner meal in Pavilion Restaurant.
Great few days away in a very nice setting.
P.
A big room, very good bathroom (though with basin plug that didn't fit!), comfortable bed. Unfortunately, no written instructions on how to operate the TV remote control which was pretty well unusable. An excellent hot spa unit. Restaurant fair only; great for breakfast, but limited range & presentation of the dinner menu.
Overall very good value.
A.
We enjoyed the facilities especially the bar where the staff were amazing very helpful & friendly. The pool was also great.
We found it rather noisy in the morning (7am) with young children not being controlled by their parents and allowed to run riot down the corridor.
It would be good to have several rooms away from families where it was quieter.
Overall still enjoy the experience and surroundings,
M.
Lovely friendly staff. Room was very clean, with a comfortable bed and also had plenty of tea and coffee sachets. Buffet breakfast and dinners were good, with a range of foods on offer. However, there is a hole in the wall in our room, a little maintenance needed. The overall look of the hotel interior is looking rather tired, carpets need to replaced and chairs scattered through the hotel need to be cleaned, repaired or replaced. The grounds are cared for and access around the complex was easy.
D.
We caused confusion when booking in as we had a voucher for 2 nights and paid for 2 nights. Sorted quite quickly at Reception. Our room was very clean and comfortable (pointed out a broken door stop to a cleaner who was interested and would report it).
Breakfast choices were sufficient depending on our day's activities. (I asked for sliced lemon for my tea the first morning & staff asked me the following morning if I required some sliced lemon. Very impressed she remembered - attention to guest's needs).
Dinner in the bar & in the Restaurant were delicious and served in good time.
We found all staff we dealt with, very polite and professional in their role.
Teams from the Under 20 Rugby tournament were staying at the same time and their meal times & meetings were managed well to not disturb other guests.
This visit was a big improvement from our experience 4 years ago and we will certainly recommend and return to Wairakei Resort
N.
We have stayed at the resort twice in the last two weeks and found it to be well maintained and clean, albeit a little dated. All the staff we encountered were very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. The meals were good and food and beverage service very good. We believe this is a great value for money resort that offers everything one would need for an enjoyable stay.
j.
Awesome experience stopped in Sunday evening for a light meal and a couple of drinks in the Geyser bar. Great service from Phoenix and the delightful bar manager and great food .
G.
Everything good. Overall complex starting to show age and some wear & tear and some upgrading needed. Location & setting excellent. Always like staying here.
A.
While the room we had was a bit tired, it was spotless and met our needs. The staff in the bar could not be faulted with the friendliness and service. they sell the place. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate dinner in the bar with friends at a table that the bar staff had set up with a lovely vase of flowers, a lovely thought. The food was superb. The spa and heated pool were very clean and lovely to spend time in.
While there were two conferences on at the time we were there we hardly knew they were there it was so peaceful and quite.
We have stayed there several times before and will be returning before winter.
d.
The location is very beautiful amongst pine trees. The rooms a very large nice and warm. The mattress little uncomfortable. The buffet dinner Asian night was good apart from a small problem which the restaurant manager solved very professionally.
The all inclusive package was well worth it and the late check out was very pleasant
R.
Great breakfast but please label food. I put shredded beetroot in my fruit thinking it was plums.
Thermal pools great and good towel supply. Hot water in room dangerously hot for children.
Staff friendly and helpful. Asian food for Saturday buffet 2 May was disappointing. Chicken was nice.
Not much evidence of recycling- paper, plastics, cans. Carpet in corridor to our room was rumpled and worn.
We loved the trees in the gardens. Autumn colours.
P.
We purchased the Eat, Soak, Play promotion. Certainly enjoyed the eat and soak part. The 'play' was misunderstood as we thought it would give all that we needed to have an introductory mountain bike adventure - but it was just a pass to the trails apparently. As we did not have bikes with us we didn't feel inclined to hire bikes adding to our expense.
We were expecting the total cost of the two nights to be $80 less than we were charged. In part own own fault, having mucked the booking up online. Staff extended the booking to a second night after a phone call but when we arrived it wasn't registered properly as eat, soak, play. Manager sorted it but the final price was more than I had dialed up when originally beginning the booking online. Put that one down to experience.
Food was great. The special menu did not carry vegetarian option - which was fine for us - but maybe worth thinking about for similar promotions.
C.
The kids had an absolute blast here during the holidays. The hotel is a little dated but the cleanliness and wonderful staff from front of house checking in and assisting to bar and restaurant staff made you not even worry about that. Food was good, breakfast buffet had a lovely variety, grounds were beautiful and the kids just loved the heated pools. We will definitely be back. Thank you
J.
We enjoyed our villa. Was really restful - a haven amongst the trees and all the bird life. Great.
L.
We had a lovely break here for 3 nights. Our room was very comfortable, we were in a Disability Suite and the bathroom was great. The distance to the restaurant was not too far and the food there was delicious. As usual the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We have stayed here several times and look forward to our next visit.
M.
The room was a little dated, but still very comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Buffet breakfast was excellent, and continually topped up, even in the busy times. Great facilities for young and old. Highly recommend.
r.
the hotel was nice and had good facilities. The rooms and overall condition was very clean and tidy but very worn and dated. carpets were worn to the backing in places with rips and tears common throughout the hallways. bathrooms were showing their age and needed updating. staff were very helpfull and nice to deal with.
R.
Lovely place to stay. Hotel staff keen to make you stay a good one. Some of the rooms are a bit tied, but the newer wing in good repair.
Spar, gym, tennis, hot pools and golf available. Restaurant options, fine dining(ish) with a good chief, or bar meals (also good).
Both reasonable pricing.
L.
Giving a 3 star rating. Stayed here for the Dairy Woman's Network conference. Driving into the resort it looked stunning, beautiful grounds, buildings. The team are fab, super friendly, kind and helpful! But up close it needs work. The pool was absolutely great! So were the spas. The food - WOW! it was devine 🤤. The room - a couple of the cups were dirty. The rooms were tidy but the toilet was a mission to flush, occasionally it wouldn't flush. House keeping was average but our room turned into a state with being so busy while we stayed, so in a way can't blame them to much 😅 will be back to stay again.
D.
Really enjoyed our 2 day stay here. We had a very clean and comfy room with king size bed. A very good deal with breakfast included. We'll be back.
B.
Room was tidy and warm, bed wasn't super comfortable but not bad, decor a little dated but not shabby.
Restaurant smelled bad and was told by a colleague that the wait was long, mains where all around $40 so we went else where. My colleagues ordered from the kids menu! They said the food was ok.
In the morning the restaurant refused to sell me a coffee, said I could only charge to my room (which was on a company account). Other people were able to buy coffee I later discovered, maybe they didn't like my face.
Conference food was good, not posh or mind blowing but fine. Gym facility was fine.
Grounds and hot swimming pool were lovely.
C.
Great family friendly hotel. Clean, spacious room, great pool facilities, and friendly staff.
D.
We enjoyed staying at the resort for 5 nights and using its heated pool, golf course, and restaurant. Staff were most helpful. The accommodation tariff rate for what is offered is very reasonable. The rooms (we had 2) were comfortable, clean, and quiet. Parking was easy. The Breakfasts being included in the tariff rate (ie free for members) was a great incentive and of a very good standard. While there are many nearby attractions, it was also no trouble and only a 50 minute drive to travel to Rotorua to do some of the activities there. I only have one suggestion- a coin operated Pool Table would be good- perhaps you could give a percentage of Pool table coins to a local charity- might be good marketing for you.
j.
Good tidy and spacious rooms with spa.
Nice breakfast, old world charm
A.
We enjoyed our stay at Wairakei, very relaxing. It was nice to not have to do anything for a few days, the rooms were spacious and nicely kept and the staff very helpful and attentive. So glad we signed up for the amazing breakfast, a great start to the day. Our family took advantage of the great walks and bike rides around the resort, as well as many of the hotel facilities - including the pools, spa, putting green, tennis and squash courts.
K.
We enjoyed
the
Outdoor
Hotpool.Good value. Friendly and helpful staff
The resort Is tired and shabby in areas .
Y.
Good service but need to improve . Never impressive stay
J.
We really enjoyed our stay and thought your staff were genuinely there to help everyone.
The only fault we had was not being able to control the heating ourselves and next stay we would like separate shower ( not over bath) as we are both of older years but still like to be in same building .
Overall very happy and will recommend to others
T.
nice place, great access to activities, very good dinner, room was adequate, spa pools were dirty and not hot. the spas definitely need more frequent cleaning, and the water should be hotter. the larger pool was nice.
L.
Outstanding service all round. Very spacious rooms and bathroom. Excellent facilities and fantastic deal! We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay. Looking forward to coming back soon for a few more nights. Already booked again :)
M.
The room was clean and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner in the bar and buffet breakfast in the Pavillion restaurant, the next morning. There was plenty of choice. We got up at 7am to have a swim in the lagoon hot pool before breakfast which was heavenly. We will definitely be back.
I only have one minor gripe which is that there were only 2 tissues left in the box in the bathroom and although there were two toilet rolls on the holder, one was a quarter roll and the other not much more. A bit more would have been nice so we did not feel the need to use it sparingly!
D.
We love going to Wairakei Resort Taupo. Relax in a hot spa or swim in the hot pools. Have a game of tennis. Keep your fitness up in the gym.
The staff are wonderful and friendly. Always smiling. We always feel at home. The Pavilion restaurant is great.
K.
Great friendly place. Tennis court ground cover needs fixing.. health and safety. The pools were lovely, clean.. fun. The rooms very clean mattresses comfortable. Breakfast was a tad too pricey for under 15 as they don't tend to eat bulk so early. Kids loved the Pancake machine though....
R.
From the superb service at the front desk on arrival our overnight stay at Wairakei Resort was superb. Our room was very clean and the facilities (tennis, pool, spa) were great with the golf course just across the road as well. The buffet breakfast included a huge range of options and was delicious - a great start to the day so we could explore more of the surrounding area. A bonus that the Ironman was on too .....
B.
Resort very clean and tidy. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast very nice and good selection. Bar facilities good for a drink and snack. Totally recommend for all walks of life. Very relaxing, would have liked to have stayed longer.
S.
We have stayed 3 nights so far over 2 trips.
love the setup, the beds are awesome, the sheets and towels all luxurious.
rooms and bathrooms very clean and well stocked.
Staff are fabulous, polite friendly and very helpful, we said we found out room hot and the ceiling fan not helping enough and they offered to help us move to another room, so lovely, we opted to stay in the room and they gave us a floor standing fan and it was magic. Love a place that is happy to problem solve, no taking so much time to think about it.
The hot tubs are gorgeous and the pool with the bar is such a wonderful way to finish your evening, we followed up after the pool with the hot tubs, such a relaxing feeling.
We had the high tea, Fantastic, we had dietary changes and they were so accommodating and what we got was perfect and i mean perfect.
Our breakfast both days was lovely, only 3 little dislikes was the scrambled eggs were not quite cooked. the bacon was streaky bacon and would have been much nicer to have rasher bacon and like most places the toast was too light.
L.
A light in the room not working. Lights in one of the shower rooms by the spas not working. Beds small and not ready (we arrived at 5pm). Whole wing we were in is very tired. We were assured it is due for an upgrade. Food very expensive and not up to much. Menu inadequate for this day and age (one vegetarian option). Kitchen seems to be short on capacity for such a large establishment. There were long delays.
P.
Nice place to stay with family however the basic amenities doesn't even meet the standards.
C.
Th reception staff were great, our room was excellent, the parking was easy and access good. The service in the dining room was fantastic- and they were very busy during our stay. The grounds were super to walk around ,We are quite elderly, and the position of our room was very peacefull. All staff were welcoming. The only disappointment was the Sunday Buffet- admittedly the dining room was very busy- but the meat and vegies were not hot enough. Perhaps if we had been 10 mins later they would have been replenished!
J.
We found all staff from Reception, cleaners, hotel staff very chatty, helpful, friendly.... amazing service and restaurant food was amazing. Staff coped very well with the changing from Covid-19 Level 1 to Level 2.
I would recommend though that no jumping in the pool by the bar and no children after 9.30pm. Several adults left the pool from 10pm onwards due to children in pool crying, jumping, splashing playing games. Would be nice to have a quiet hour for adults to swim and soak.
We had a wonderful time and will come back. Place is looking a little tired and needs a paint etc.
N.
The room was comfortable but the breakfast was very average. A group of us had dinner in the restaurant one night and it took over an hour to get our meal. There were very few others in the restaurant, so it was quite disappointing. The food wasn't great, which was also disappointing.
The staff were nice and helpful, at reception and in the bar.
When we checked in, there was a que of about 7 people and only 2 people assisting at reception. Someone finally asked if there was any other staff available to help and someone else came out, but it shouldn't have needed a customer to ask about this.
N.
Rooms meet our needs very well. The grounds are beautiful, loved that the balcony looked into trees. Facilities great for family. Lots of space to wander around. Even though lots of people staying there it didn’t feel crowded. Reception staff very helpful. We had 8 children with us and they enjoyed the pool and playground. Didn’t get to do all we wanted so coming back.
C.
There were a great many great things about our stay. In particular, the lovely lady who handled our check in. I've never had a better check in experience anywhere.
On the negative side, the barman who served us pre-dinner drinks needs some training in food hygiene. When preparing my wife's glass of water, he used his bare hands to place ice in her glass (surely there was a scoop), and again his bare hands to place a slice of lemon and a straw in her glass (surely there were tongs). Then he overfilled the glass so that all the outside was dripping with water.
J.
We enjoyed our stay especially the hot pool and breakfasts; however, the four spa pools where not operating as a spa pool should. One of our party wanted to register and front desk staff directed her to do it on line even though she had already tried without success they would not help her do it and yet one of us did.
C.
We had a lovely holiday here. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The resort is huge with lots of activities to do. The buffet breakfast was pretty amazing. Next time we come, I would love to try the buffet dinner. We loved staying here so much, we didn't want to leave.
L.
We recently stayed at Wairakei Resort and received wonderful service from this place. For a very reasonable price, as a member, we got a free buffet breakfast, each day. The staff were especially kind to ,me after a mistake made on the first night at dinner. A young waiter accidentally gave me the non gluten free plate. Extremely worried about their mistake, the manager followed up and visited my room to check if I was okay. He also offered us a reserved table at breakfast and delivered my hot food to my table. Learning from their mistake, they said changed their procedures to prevent this happening again. The pools were delightful and the grounds very scenic. I especially liked the mountain bike track that ran behind the resort. I also liked the friendliness of the place and helpfulness of the staff. We had a nice visit to the bar and help in finding a good place to eat Indian food. This is somewhere I'd like to bring my kids back to. They had a popcorn and movie area and I'm sure they'll love the pancakes at breakfast!
K.
We’ve stayed at the Wairakei for over 35 years now. It’s a great spot with lovely hot pools, meeting areas for family, friends & conferences and is situated in beautiful grounds with many amenities, whilst being handy to the nearby township of Taupo. The staff do their best to ensure guests comfort. We always look forward to our next visit!
J.
Great place to stay, we love it when the price is right. But unfortunately the place was packed tonight for my birthday 14th August 2021, and the lack of carparks around the 800 to 900 wings is a major concern and needs looking at. The other factor is it was buffet night, and there were no family favorites, especially the amount of children and teenager's staying at the resort to cater for it was to fancy. So we had dine out in town which was a bloody nightmare for parking and eating somewhere because town was packed, and the ABS were on playing Aussie. Anyway cheers 🍻👍all
B.
The complex is very spread out, our room, 709 was a long walk to the dining room with the signage being a little confusing. The thermostat in the room was faulty and the half flush on the system did not work. The bed was reasonably comfortable but the continuous slamming of doors from nearby rooms did not help get a good night's sleep. The auto door closers need to be adjusted to reduce the noise.
P.
A very enjoyable 3day stay.
We had a garden view room which had a super king bed which was split into two single beds as we were two friends. The beds were comfortable and the room was adequately furnished. We had breakfast included in our stay which also was very good. Because of Covid there was no buffet so therefore breakfast was served to the table. I must say we found the staff to be exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. We also had dinner one night in the hotel and again the quality of the food was amazing.
We would definitely return to this hotel and both agreed we should have stayed longer. We certainly will be back! Thank you for a lovely stay.
W.
Always it's an amazing experience to stay in Wairakei Resort. 😍
J.
Absolutely loved our stay here for last night in Taupo. This place is beautiful and the heated pools and spa were just a cherry on top. The room service was only OK due to food being overcooked. Restaurant breakfast was amazing and my teens were very satisfied for the trip home. Overall we will definitely be staying here again.
C.
Some of the decor is a bit dated but they know where to spend their money. The pool was lovely and gloriously warm. Everything is very clean. The grounds were nice, great for kids. The buffet breakfast was good, I would have liked some fresh fruit.
M.
Very friendly staff. Had to alter the dates of the 1 night stay twice and there was no problem doing that. Had the Sunday Roast in the Restaurant which I feel was overpriced @ $45 per head. Frozen Fish Fingers cooked up doesn't work for me and the roast root veges lacked imagination. however the meats were ok.
R.
It was hard work putting my point of view across to Duty Mngr Krishneesh (unsure of spelling) It was frustrating to have to try & prove myself, when even he recognised I was a good repeat customer. Anyway it came good & didn't spoil our stay, fortunately.
The other staff we encountered were fantastic, namely Gary in the house bar, Anita in reception & although I didn't get her name the housekeeper on
Sunday & Monday in the 400 block.
The Pavlion restaurant was as always absolutely top notch.
M.
Very courteous and helpful reception staff. Logging on to the wifi was an issue but obviously we weren't the first guests to experience this. Nice room with plenty of space. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Our only negative comments would be that the hotel is looking a little 'tired' these days - we only dined in the restaurant at breakfast time and found it very dark - even sitting near the window.
M.
We had our family reunion here and it was just perfect. Activities for young and old and all the facilities we required in one fantastic place. The staff were extremely accommodating for all our needs and the service exceptional - thanks so much!
M.
We just stayed for the one night, but enjoyed it so much we have booked again for out next holiday. The rooms were comfortable and our room was over looking the pool which gave us the "being on holiday" feeling. The pool was a perfect temperature and the ground perfect to walk around.
E.
Had a fabulous stay here in the school holidays. The resort was very busy but the staff were amazing, going out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
Mountain biking and golf right across the road along with hot pools and spas at the hotel were all great.
We enjoyed a couple of lovely evening meals that were hard to fault made better by great service. Breakfast was very busy, but basic good food.
The rooms are a little dated but we had an amazing "suite" of two adjoining rooms with a lounge/ kitchenette in between that was huge and a great price - perfect for our family of 4 with 2 teenagers.
Special mention to Praveen in the house bar who went above and beyond to give us great service. We will be back.
H.
Decent place but the rooms I saw could have done with a refurb. Real mixture of fittings. For example three different face plates on stitches. Minor I know. No USB outlet which would have been handy. Super high pressure water which is not great in the sink when it comes out which such force it goes all over you and floor! Very clean with comfy beds which is the main thing really. Great for groups too.
R.
Another fantastic stay. Awesome surroundings and ever helpful and friendly staff. Really enjoyed the breakfast buffet, plenty of choices and well prepared. The bar was also a great place to kick back and relax with some great service and bar food.
While some of the decor is dated and the place could do with a general spruce up, it's still a really comfortable and handy place to stay. Plenty of people in for the weekend, it's great to see people supporting local destinations.
Again, many thanks for another awesome stay. We'll be back soon.
D.
Good service, Food was great. I came a day early but the team looked after me and changed the day very appreciative of the professionalism they portrayed.
They even knew which room I was staying in when I checked out .
The room was great and cleaning staff did a great job and were also very friendly.
I loved the pool and view from our room .
Restaurant and bar staff were very good and well organised
L.
The location is great, the warmed pool was lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful. But the room was old, tired especially for the amount we were paying. Not value for money. Very noisy with people in the adjoining room disturbing us mostly due to lack of sound proofing. Again, noisy corridor with the sounds of people walking heavily up and down mostly, we believe, due to lack of sound proofing and not because they were behaving in an unusually loud manner. Room was not cleaned til late afternoon on the first day and so we refused as we had returned from our day out.
K.
We visit this resort a couple of times a year. Kids enjoy the pools, which are massive and always heated. Great private spas and sauna available. Good location, handy to Taupo and attraction centres. Golf, tennis courts avail. You can hire a bike for local tracks.
z.
The room decor seemed a little dated, very 90s, but they were very spacious and extremely clean. Hospitality was excellent. The staff were always friendly and attentive to our needs. Great facilities although it would have been good to have a games room or table tennis to keep teenagers occupied in the evenings.
n.
Only had a night stop over. Room was clean and warm with great bed, good facilities with lots of options. Plus good gin selection at the bar 😉. Communal facilities like carpets looking tired but doesn't detract for a lovley stay. Staff welcoming and friendly easy check in and check out. Would definitely come back for a longer break.
K.
We enjoyed our 4 night stay here, conveniently in between school holidays & a long weekend.
This grand dame of resorts is showing her age in areas, and could definitely use a little TLC, but we were expecting this as we were aware the process of updating is ongoing. The only sticking point for us was that the bathroom just felt a bit dated & damp, and the pillows weren't particularly comfortable (very soft but we usually have firm pillows, so this could just be preference).
That said - we were comfortable in our room, and it was clean & tidy. We loved having the ability to use any of the spa/hot pools on site, making for a very relaxing stay particularly with all the kereru & tui around. The Body Firm therapists were great, and it really made our day to go pamper ourselves & then have a relaxing soak after.
The staff were friendly & well presented, and we enjoyed being here. We had fun using the golf course and pools, and I was happy to see a tennis court & gym available although we didn't end up using them. There was plenty of information available about outside activities & attractions.
Wairakei Resort is, overall, in a stunning location & well appointed. We would definitely stay here again, and looking forward to doing so. Keep up the great work, we look forward to seeing this resort grow.
F.
100% HAPPY with all aspects the staff were very friendly , helpful , nice , nothing was a problem,
we have stayed at more than on motel / hotel in Taupo that left a sour taste >> BUT thanks to Wairakei Resort faith has been restored >> we enjoyed the atmosphere the rooms were perfect , and we will stay again >> 100% HAPPY
J.
We had to do work around a house, and what a great way to end a busy day. Very relaxing well-appointed rooms, and most welcoming staff. From the first entry to the check out that resort lead to a relaxing time.
A.
Good value for money considering how much they have to offer. Quite dated and a bit noisy overnight but would definitely stay again based on the many facilities they have to offer, excellent customer service and food! We even got complimentary passes to wairakei terraces and a $30 food and beverage voucher. Such a bargain!
D.
Great resort and we had a great time staying there. We (2 adults and 2 children) stayed in a villa which was very good, spacious with a large living area and kitchen. Plenty of room for the kids to muck around. There is a lot to do at the resort, a playground for the kids, two large hot pools that were both really nice, spas are also available, a decent gym, the restaurant was good and the bar was also worth checking out. The restaurant was nice but they did have limited vegetarian options for dinner, so if you want to dine there multiple nights and you're vegetarian/vegan you might be a little disappointed. Internet is free although you only get 2gb per day on the free WiFi but it seemed fast enough. We did the usual stuff like head into Taupo etc but honestly we could have just stayed at the resort and lounged. So yeah, we'll worth a look, its about 7 minutes drive into Taupo from the resort so not far.
J.
Our family has stayed at Wairakei Resort many times for family events since it is centrally located and easily accommodates multiple families. The restaurant served us outstanding dinners - great pork belly entree and beef fillet main was cooked perfectly. Some of the room decor is getting a little tired but the staff were lovely and we thoroughly recommend.
T.
Excellent value for money. Very comfortable rooms and relaxing areas. Excellent restaurant. All staff are friendly and always willing to do the extra for guests.
D.
It is great all inclusive so you can enjoy on-site and make the most of the stay. A suggestion: we happened on a conversation with the gardener. He was informative and knowledgeable. How about an hour garden tour? We came away feeling quite pleased with our gardener time including the trees from original gate which we wouldn't have noticed. A few on-site activities along this line would add to the experience.
H.
The staff are looking considerably more groomed than the hotel itself - it is looking shabby and in need of serious renovation. We stayed over Labour Weekend when it was ridiculously expensive for anywhere, let along a hotel that had worn carpet, scuffed walls and decor from the 90's. Sadly I doubt I'd stay again for any price.
Again tho, the staff were all lovely and friendly.
S.
My wife and I stayed in this beautiful complex on Monday 31st 2021 for 1 night before driving back to Auckland the next day , first time for us and we loved the whole experience, from our check in with professional friendly staff to a room we loved that overlooked the carpark at rear and it was so quiet , comfortable bed and a beautiful cooked breakfast , what more could you ask for ? Next time we will stay longer :-)
j.
Unit was tired, very 1970, shower over bath, creaky floorboards, and minimal TV channels, but the pluses outweighed these issues. Room very clean, bed and pillows were excellent. Restaurant was very good, staff of the highest order. Reception were helpful. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel, very good value for money
D.
I marked down my score, as I have a problem with the pricing! I booked with the understanding I would get a 15% discount for the Webb Wedding 20 February. I prefer to pay ahead but on this occasion decided I would agree to paying while there. I was not given any indication of price, but was told when settling the bill that I had been upgraded, and it was the best price for the 2 night stay - 20 and 21st February. "Best price" is not at all transparent, and explanation of the algorithm used was less than adequate. I don't think advertising 15% off, then just calculating by some other method is fair. I would not stay again without knowing exactly what I am paying ahead of time.
Also, I was not roomed near the family as I would have expected for a wedding group!
S.
Close enough to town and attractions but quiet enough to feel like the middle of nowhere... What a fantastic place to stay, Wairakei Resort has become our go-to stay. Whether its a child-free weekend or a family getaway. There is something for everyone, The staff are fantastic and the buffet breakfast is scrumptious, even for the fussy eaters!
A.
Great location with hot pools to soak in. Dinner menu had a reasonable variety of offerings. Breakfast a serve yourself style, fairly typical hotel fair. We had medium accommodation with king size bed. Nice but a bit dated. We were told that there is a multi-million dollar refurbishment under way. We thought the tariff fair for what we received. My wife & I have been coming to Wairakei every now and then for 49 years. We have never been disappointed.
V.
The restaurant was the most disappointing part of our stay unfortunately and the room wasn’t great either as I’d booked a room with a bathtub (even called to confirm with someone before arriving) but then it wasn’t ready at check in time so we were given another room which smelt a bit. Inside the buildings is quite dated and a bit run down in places but the grounds were nice and the staff very friendly.
a.
Clean, well appointed room, great location, easy parking next to room, lovely grounds.
B.
We had a very relaxing couple of day's stay. We loved the pool and could not fault anything about the resort. The food is superb and the bar and restaurant staff are exceptionable. Will definitely be back when we need another mini break. Annette and Barry.
N.
The hotel staff were amazing, so friendly and accommodating. It was a great place for our family to get together to celebrate our daughters 21st. Kids loved the pool and buffet breakfast. This is definitely our new place to stay in Taupo
a.
There were 14 in the family group who booked into the Wairau wing. We compared our accounts at the end of our stay and we're shocked to find everyone had a different costing for their rooms. Our room was $30 more than anyone else and we had the smallest and at the back of the building!!! No explanations were forthcoming.
My husband and I both ordered the lamb rump at dinner, neither were cooked properly and my husbands was leaking blood all over the plate. It was sent back to the kitchen but came back out no better. Personally I was very disappointed with the quality and the people behind reception as the man we dealt with had no interest whatsoever in anything I had to say. He was the manager of the day.
In saying all this, we would still come back as the complex is ideal for a group get together. However we would come back forwarned and ready to face the discrepancies that we did.
At no stage were we offered a printout of a breakdown of our costs, very poor in my opinion especially as we had charged drinks and meals to our room account. All we were given was the eftpos printout, we were also charged a fee for using a credit card......I am disappointed and will warn other travellers of these things.
D.
We had a great stay as usual. The dinner and breakfast was very good and up to the best standard. We had a noisy air conditioning Unit. The management changed our room. Unfortunately it was opposite the bar. There must have been a private function on in the large room beside the bar with very loud music. That was OK because we do not want to stop people enjoying themselves. But some of the guests stayed outside the bar until 3am making a lot of noise and then came into the accommodation area shouting and slamming doors. We were upset that the bar staff or management did not put a stop to this or at least told them to stay inside bar area. Very disappointed in this after a great stay.
C.
Was a great place to stay with a nice drive up from town. Only issue is that it is a dated place which is fine, just something to keep in mind. Clean and tidy but the soap tube was not refilled before our stay and the TV wasn't very clear as it was quite old.
K.
Shame buffet breakfast not operational but otherwise was the usual greatvstay
L.
Spent our last 2 nights of our holiday at the resort!! Love it, enjoyed it, it was a vibe!! Staff was so friendly especially the bar area and facilities were great too!! Especially with my big family (17) it was a great place to end our holiday!
A.
The standard of service from all staff was excellent. The room was cared for well, the front of house staff were courteous and helpful, the restaurant staff (particularly the dinner manager) was great and the lamb roast was FANTASTIC (thank you chef!).
The ancillary features such as spas etc were welcome and well used by us
B.
Great place to stay. Very friendly staff clean rooms beautiful food.
B.
Had a great one night stay at this resort. Accommodation was very good, bar staff gave excellent service and food for fantastic. Great breakfast smorgasbord to fully prepare us for our onward trip.
D.
Lovely stay, polite room cleaners. All presented with a smile. Breakfast buffet was avg. coming back from the town centre to find the car park outside our room was packed, was the only major let down. Other then that enjoyed.
V.
I cannot speak highly enough of your staff. Especially the Restaurant staff. They were always smiling & accommodating. My 2 older sister's & I stayed at the Resort a fortnight earlier & we all said that the Restaurant staff were amazing. We rated the Restaurant 10/10.
The only thing I would comment on is while the rooms were lovely & clean, they were a little tired & outdated. But both stays we did stay in the older part of the Resort.
Food was amazing on both visits. No need to go to town when you can get such great food & have great service at the Restaurant.
Hot pools were a major winner on both visits.
We really enjoyed our stay on both trips & look forward to returning again in the future. 10/10
Oh I would like to mention these people in particular for there outstanding service - Kanja- Front of house
Patrik- Restaurant
Ethan & the other front of house manager who I can't remember his name but it starts with R.
D.
Very friendly staff in all areas of the hotel, dealt very well with the covid restrictions. Eat at the on site restaurant, great food. Loved the heated pools and being open til late. Such good value, will definitely be a first choice when staying in Taupo.
A.
We stayed 3 nights. Every staff member from front desk, restaurant and bar to cleaners was first class. Made my partner and I feel really welcomed. Empathetic when I had a medical mishap also. Highly recommend staying at the Wairakei Resort
G.
The staff go above and beyond to be helpful. It's always immaculately presented and they always tweak my accommodation to give me the view I want. The views and pools are great and pop down to the terraces with a discounted pass. Totally awesome place to stay. Selvia and Kingston
F.
Looking for time out for ourselves and one mini me (6).
One day experiencing local activities and enjoying the facilities was just the tonic.
A fantastic buffet with friendly staff, easy listening entertainment and non pretentious surroundings reminded us why we keep coming back time after time
P.
We have learned that this is the place to go for a low key relax. The ability to walk across the lawn to the pool whenever we want us a huge drawcard for us.
Staff are great particularly in the bar. When they remember you from past visits it makes you feel like old friends.
J.
Have always loved Wairakei Resort. Our third year staying at this date. Annual father and son golf game. We had an absolute ball. We had a really nice dinner and a few drinks in the bar. Buffet breakfast included in price. Unfortunately the grand old lady is feeling tired in some areas. This wont stop us staying though. Can't wait till next year..who knows..we may be back before then.
R.
Great stay. Amazing food and fabulous service.
l.
Nice pools, good value. Make sure you check out the hot stream walk while you stay.
G.
It was quite busy but never seemed overcrowded. The room was a twin and was bigger than average very nice bathroom. Recommend the breakfast great selection of cooked, cereal, breads and fruit
A.
We stayed there couple times. Love this place. The hotel is really nice and quiet. The service is always outstanding. Rooms are clean and tidy. They have a restaurant and bar on site with good selection of food and drinks. There are two large outdoor hot pools and several private spas to help you relax after long drive.
T.
We stayed for a weekend with our 5 young grandsons, it was an awesome place for us and the boys, with the pools and spas, playground and beautiful peaceful grounds. The bar/ restaurant was great. The night movies for the kids along with the free pop corn and candy floss was very much enjoyed. Rooms were very comfortable and stylish, was good to be given additonal towels for swimming. The only problem we found was the lack of milk for the 7 of us, but im sure we could have asked for more.
We are all ready planning our next visit with friends. Location is great, feel like your in the country but 5 minutes from town.
P.
This was our first stay at Wairakei Resort. From check in to leaving the staff were friendly and very accommodating. It felt like nothing was too much trouble. We would like to mention 'Sonjia' (?) who checked us in. Also Rebecca who was our waitress for dinner on Thursday night. Both outstanding in their service and friendliness.
We liked our room. It was nice and quiet. Amenities and grounds peaceful, well maintained and clean.
R.
Our family group of 11 were accommodated close together in very comfortable rooms. It rained a lot of the time but the pool down in the bush saved the day. The tennis courts and playground were used between rain showers and the new trampoline delighted the young ones.
The free breakfast was a bonus and saved us a lot of organizing and the choice was plenty to suit everyone.
The restaurant service was very good and very friendly, often in the very busy and hectic breakfast time, they worked very hard and efficiently.
We appreciated that the hotel was very busy being school holidays and the room servicing was a little ad hoc compared to other times that we stayed. This wasn't a problem because the staff were always around and gave us anything that we needed or what was missed.
We had a serious ant problem and it was fixed within 30mins of us telling the front desk staff.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
Overall we had a wonderful family holiday that the children (and adults) will keep talking about.
K.
Accommodation is too expensive for the rooms, and with only a buffet on Saturday night decided to go elsewhere for 50th wedding Anniversary dinner.
Also need to segregate family dining with young children form other guests.
S.
Our 3rd visit this year, which says something in itself. The resort is well established and knows its customers demographic. It offers good value for money and the staff provide excellent cusservice which matches many superior hotels.
T.
Friendly staff, lovely food but not happy with the room. There was only one thin blanket and the pillows were well worn and very uncomfortable. Also no heating in the room at all. Disappointed.
N.
Our family of 4 stayed here for 3 nights last week. We wish it was for longer. The facilities were fantastic and the staff were all friendly. Our children loved the grounds and the pools. We will definitely be planning another trip up to Taupo and choose Wairakei Resort to stay at again.
D.
Foremost!!! The Wairakei Resort Staff make it 5/5 for me. From admin ...hospitality to room service staff. They are an Asset to the resort. Friendly,😊 Kind!!! Humble & Humorous. Thank you all.
H.
Enjoyed our one night stay, only sour note was not having breakfast included when we were paying $300 for our room and dinner (admittedly with a disco included).
Nice staff and good buffet dinner. Good clean room. Would stay again.
J.
Nice hot water pools. Hotel rooms tiny, however we got a free upgrade. Noise in hallway in the morning and till late evening despite a clear sign to keep quiet.
S.
The thick curtains were great for blocking out light. Daily room service was great. Front desk help fantastic. Loved exploring the tracks around the resort. Only thing that was difficult was the heat! We had no air conditioning in our unit. Perhaps when you know the weather is going to be hot, people can be upgraded to air conditioned rooms? Or perhaps put heat pumps in the units? We didn't get a lot of sleep.
T.
OMG the bar duty manager at the Wairakei resort was amazing he so looked after us an made sure we had a awesome time the service from him was the best I'd ever had on the our road trip this year.
Thank you so much for your professional service you really made our trip 😄
A.
We had not stayed here before but highly recommend. We had two small children and they loved the playground and the swimming pool. The restaurant had yummy food and at a good price. The people who worked at the resort were all super lovely and accommodating. We would love to have tried the buffet dinner on the Saturday but it had sold out and we didn't no to book.
We will definitely stayed here again, possibly in a room closer to the main pool, one which had more kitchen type facilities if that is possible.
W.
We stay here regularly for work and it is a great place to stay. Service is great. Staff are very friendly. Great value for money. Rooms are lovely. Could do with some updating but that is very minor. Also love the thermal pools! Buffet breakfast is great especially for our team who are on the road early. Definitely would recommend.
K.
Organization of resort and facilities well arranged by staff. It offers plenty of room with wide range of selection. having a restaurants in premises of resort is big bonus with cafe and bar. so, you don't need to go outside. $120/night is most valuable stay for solo traveler at this resort. They offer almost each facilities in room what we use at home from hair drier, iron and heating panel too. However, In this starting economy room of $120 you will not microwave to heat up your food. Overall, awesome experience in budget value.
M.
Stayed in the family units, they are a bit tired, but very comfortable and clean. We could not fault the location as it was very quiet, the staff are very attentive and helpful. The on site facilities are really good and reasonably priced. The pools are very clean and open for use for nearly 18 hours a day, great when you want to chill or have a swim. We stayed for 4 nights and would stay here again for longer and shorter stays.
H.
Best stay ever. Got an awesome upgrade to a suite. Staff were great. Bar guy remembered what we were drinking from the night before. Check in guy Kevin delivered the terrible news of our upgrade in the most hilarious way. Put us at ease straight away. Ethan in the restaurant was entertaining, had the right kind of personality for his role.
V.
Thank you for a lovely break away. We enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable and staff were very welcoming, friendly and efficient. Breakfast was good. Plenty of choice and well presented. Special mention must go
to Preveen in the bar, his service was amazing! We will be back.
C.
Overall a very pleasant stay. Our first visit. We will come again and recommend to friends and family. Staff friendly and efficient. Rooms comfortable .Exceptional value . Great not to have to travel into Taupo itself for a drink and a good meal.
B.
Had a great one night stay at this resort. Accommodation was very good, bar staff gave excellent service and food for fantastic. Great breakfast smorgasbord to fully prepare us for our onward trip.

Some of the decor is a bit dated but they know where to spend their money. The pool was lovely and gloriously warm. Everything is very clean. The grounds were nice, great for kids. The buffet breakfast was good, I would have liked some fresh fruit.
F.
Great place to stay with good facilities. Some are a little dated but good value for money. Loved the heated swimming pool at night listening to a morepork.

We love staying here when we come to Taupo. Meals at restaurant are always great. Breakfast is good. The gardens are lovely only down comment is the some of the rooms and carpets could be redone
D.
Good service, Food was great. I came a day early but the team looked after me and changed the day very appreciative of the professionalism they portrayed.
They even knew which room I was staying in when I checked out . …
R.
Having stayed there a few times now we would rate them up there with the best as far as friendly & helpful service goes. The dearer rooms are fantastic & the less expensive still clean & acceptable. A great location.
R.
Great place to stay. Great pools, nearby golf courses, cycling. Staff were excellent for both recent stays.
S.
A lovely break away. Very pleasant staff, good value for money, loads of things to do close by, very good on-site restaurant. Can recommend the on-site spa and massage as well. An excellent place to 're-boot' the system. Thank you very much.
S.
Rooms clean and tidy.
Requested change of room was quickly arranged.
Helpful bar staff
Friendly and helpful table service.
Excellent value for money
Food was plentiful and of top quality.
D.
I marked down my score, as I have a problem with the pricing! I booked with the understanding I would get a 15% discount for the Webb Wedding 20 February. I prefer to pay ahead but on this occasion decided I would agree to paying while …
A.
We stayed 3 nights. Every staff member from front desk, restaurant and bar to cleaners was first class. Made my partner and I feel really welcomed. Empathetic when I had a medical mishap also. Highly recommend staying at the Wairakei Resort
D.
Very friendly staff in all areas of the hotel, dealt very well with the covid restrictions. Eat at the on site restaurant, great food. Loved the heated pools and being open til late. Such good value, will definitely be a first choice when staying in Taupo.
A.
Good value for money considering how much they have to offer. Quite dated and a bit noisy overnight but would definitely stay again based on the many facilities they have to offer, excellent customer service and food! We even got complimentary passes to wairakei terraces and a $30 food and beverage voucher. Such a bargain!
S.
We have stayed 3 nights so far over 2 trips.
love the setup, the beds are awesome, the sheets and towels all luxurious.
rooms and bathrooms very clean and well stocked. …
N.
The hotel staff were amazing, so friendly and accommodating. It was a great place for our family to get together to celebrate our daughters 21st. Kids loved the pool and buffet breakfast. This is definitely our new place to stay in Taupo
W.
For massage treatment 5 star, the other parts dropped ratings.
H.
Best stay ever. Got an awesome upgrade to a suite. Staff were great. Bar guy remembered what we were drinking from the night before. Check in guy Kevin delivered the terrible news of our upgrade in the most hilarious way. Put us at ease …
H.
Enjoyed our one night stay, only sour note was not having breakfast included when we were paying $300 for our room and dinner (admittedly with a disco included). …
P.
A very enjoyable 3day stay.
We had a garden view room which had a super king bed which was split into two single beds as we were two friends. The beds were comfortable and the room was …

Good follow up service from Management, reccomend writing a Google review if you need assistance from upper management level
G.
2 nights. Excellent service and meals. Friendly, attentive and helpful staff throughout. Very busy weekend but staff were quick in their response and communicated well. This why we came back to the resort.
A.
The lunches from the restaurant were around $26 and were well below average. The fries were not cooked thoroughly. There are plenty of utilities, but the resort is starting to look a little run down and dates. The room was clean enough, but I would probably rather spend a bit more and go elsewhere.
K.
We were herding cats - family group of 18 (finally!) Help with reservations ( Toni ) Great help with check-in/room shuffles(Sanja) Great patience delivering excellent set menu (Evelyn) Very helpful Herman and breakfast staff.
A.
Recently stayed here, no 1 & most importantly exceptionally clean! !! Rooms a bit dated I understand the difficulty with every changing trends in decor. Bar staff exceptional even though it was very busy with a conference. Breakfast has choices for all dietary tastes excellent. Slight mixup with dinner which Manager very quickly recognised & corrected. A wonderful old building part of
Taupo’s history. Great Value for money & hope to return.
M.
I was part of a Family Reunion. Many of the family stayed at the resort and all that I spoke to were full of praise for the manner in which we as individuals were cared for and the kind, unobtrusive and efficient manner in which they assisted with getting a wonderful outcome for our function
C.
Another very enjoyable stay at Wairakei Resort. Reception staff just fabulous, and professional but with a great sense of humour to match ours! Easy check in. Great buffet Sunday night and Resort staff very attentive. Love the facilities, and the room was very clean and spacious. This is our place of choice each time we come to Taupo. (our friends stayed too, and they totally agree).
S.
Second time here and we loved it. Hot pools were great, staff very friendly and food was lovely too. Love the movie night for kids with free pop corn & candy floss while we chill at the nearby bar. Great spot.
R.
Good evening,
I’m typing this email on our last night of four spent at Wairakei Resort.
As a family of 5 (two teachers as parents), we don’t often get an opportunity to get away.
From the time that we telephoned to say that we were arriving earlier than anticipated, right up to tonight we have received simply outstanding service from your staff.
Right from the cleaning staff, to reception, to waitrons we have been met with smiles. No problem has been too small or too big.
Specifically I would like to mention Praveen in the bar - you have an outstanding man there who sells your hotel like no other.
Thank you for making our holiday memorable and welcoming. We certainly hope to be able to visit again.
Please pass on our compliments to your staff.
Well done Wairakei Resort!
l.
Very comfy bed, lovely room but no coffee making facilities. Dining room top service and food. Excellent quick service from lovely staff and reception lovely welcome and people. Thank you. The hotel is very tired and needs remodeling throughout.
M.
I found the staff to be very professional and courteous. I would recommend a sleepover at this hotel.
J.
Staff was very friendly, room is clean, breakfast is great. Just the room is not as up to date.
M.
It feels peaceful staying here. We enjoyed the pool (we were still swimming at 10pm - geothermal heating) and dined in the bar.
J.
Pleasant place to stay for conferences and food was good.
A.
We stayed there couple times. Love this place. The hotel is really nice and quiet. The service is always outstanding. Rooms are clean and tidy. They have a restaurant and bar on site with good selection of food and drinks. There are two large outdoor hot pools and several private spas to help you relax after long drive.
J.
Our family has stayed at Wairakei Resort many times for family events since it is centrally located and easily accommodates multiple families. The restaurant served us outstanding dinners - great pork belly entree and beef fillet main was …

Had a lovely stay. Service was fantastic. Lots to do and see within the resort. We will definitely be back.

I was part of a Family Reunion. Many of the family stayed at the resort and all that I spoke to were full of praise for the manner in which we as individuals were cared for and the kind, unobtrusive and efficient manner in which they assisted with getting a wonderful outcome for our function
T.
Staff are so friendly are nice here. Great facilities like this gym and spa and pool and also sauna and massaging therapies. Loved it
M.
It was an amazing experience. The only issue was that there was no drinking water available in the rooms which is a bit weird. When spoke to the reception the person said that they cannot provide drinking water to all as they have 187 rooms and it's a lot.
H.
We stay at this hotel quite often mainly around Christmas time. The Christmas buffet was great as was the breakfasts. BUT the whole Hotel needs an upgrade - carpets are badly in need of replacement and the rooms could be cleaner. Even a paint - things are looking 'tired'. It is such an ideal place to stay lovely surroundings etc but the inside don't match up to the outside.
Apart from that we did enjoy our few days at Wairakei Resort.
B.
The staff from the check in desk to the housekeepers were really great, the kitchen and dinning room, in fact everyone was just so helpful and friendly, service with a smile.
L.
Lovely place to stay. The room was lovely, albeit a bit outdated. Not too bothered by it🙂Lots to do around the resort and Taupo.
Excellent service from the front desk, the restaurant and bar staff.A big thanks to the chef,Jason, who went the extra mile by making sure I had a meal suited to my dietary needs.Five stars for the beautiful food,Jason.
I will definitely be back.
T.
The newly reconditioned rooms were lovely. Just across from the pool which was uncrowded just when I wanted to use it. I hadn't booked, but the gentleman on reception found the package that best met my needs, fast and efficiently. The breakfast was great and ready early just like I like it to be. So after a great nights sleep I was on my way. Awesome
S.
We had a conference here for 2 days. The food was average, the rooms badly need an upgrade. Our bathroom smelled mouldy and was very dated.
The beds were great and we appreciated 1 bed each. The TV was really bad. Even the audio on the news did not match the video.
S.
A lovely break away. Very pleasant staff, good value for money, loads of things to do close by, very good on-site restaurant. Can recommend the on-site spa and massage as well. An excellent place to 're-boot' the system. Thank you very much.
M.
This resort is up to the Hilton standards. Checking in went smoothly without any hassle. It was hassle free. The room is clean and tidy. The bathroom is shining. The room is smallish buy okay. I had the chance to get outstanding view! Pools are open till 11 pm which is heated! Also, restaurants close 9:30 pm which is great! 😊😊
S.
Have told our family and Friends that this is a quality hotel and a very relaxing break under inconvenient times. We both loved the quality food variety, all the pools and spa experiences and will return again next month for our well-being.
M.
Thank you to the staff at Wairakei Resort, very helpful and excellent service.. food was substantial and the amount of facilities on site you pretty much dont have to go anywhere. We definitely our looking fowards to come back next year. Bringing kids next time.
J.
Overall the stay was okay. Starting to look quite dated in rooms and some amenities. Mismatched silicon work in tiled shower. Outdoor spa was in a state of disrepair and one other wasn't working. Water looked very dirty.
D.
This is a spacious, high quality resort. Staff are well-trained and respectful, rooms comfortable and quiet. There are two large thermally heated pools to relax in plus spa pools and a sauna, restaurant and gymn, bike hire - in fact everything you would expect from a good resort. There are walking and cycling tracks alongside the thermal stream that steams its way thru the property. This resort has been in existence since the 1800's and although the buildings are much more recent, some of the trees have been here since the early days, which adds to the atmosphere.
We experienced a small hiccup when we tried to book a third night at short notice. We were told our room was not available and so we would have to move out, wait around and finally move into a less desirable room. This was quite unsettling but we decided to go along with it. On the morning of our upheaval we were then told that our room was available after all. A strange turn of events.
J.
Great relaxing resort with lovely rooms and several pools and private spas. An excellent choice for families. The staff are all lovely too and really go the extra mile for you.
Close to Taupo, the prawn farm, Huka Falls and several other attractions.
G.
A friend and I stayed for two nights in a comfortable twin room with a small outside balcony. It was very clean and tidy. The bed was firm, supportive and I had a great sleep. Restaurant food and atmosphere was great, and the staff could not have been more attentive and friendly. Only drawback was, back at our room on second night, noisy and drunken behaviour of other patrons in rooms close by in middle of the night.
G.
The rooms were spacious and immaculate. The staff were very friendly and approachable. Special mention to the bartender who went out of his way to find us some playing cards. He didn't have to - but he offered and the gesture was well appreciated. The serenity of the whole resort was absolutely breath taking. We were only there for a work meeting but definitely planning to go back for a proper holiday stay.
V.
We love staying here when we come to Taupo. Meals at restaurant are always great. Breakfast is good. The gardens are lovely only down comment is the some of the rooms and carpets could be redone
J.
Had a great time at Wairakei resort. The room was spacious and nice. It was great being able to swim in the hot pools every day - my 2 year old son love it. It was even better at night or when the day was overcast and rainy. The playground, restaurant and other amenities were also good. Only complaint would be that the room had a large kitchenette area, but no plates or bowls or cutlery, just a few cups, glasses and spoons. We had to buy disposables - or ask for specific items.
i.
Very impressed with facilities, staff & service. I had my 2 grandchildren who took advantage of the squash court, trampoline & the wonderful heated outdoor pool. Our room was quiet & spacious & close to all amenities, had a beautiful garden right outside our window, nice to wake up to the sound of birds. Bonus was being able to keep the grandchildren entertained as there was lots to do & see here. Very affordable price. Would love to have stayed longer...
S.
Great place to stay but is currently needing some further investment as it is starting to look abit tired
B.
Staff were excellent but place looking a bit tired (frayed carpets and no art work on walls in hallways).
Restaurant inconsistent as some meals were great but some food was cold or tasteless.
Pools were good and bar staff were helpful and friendly
R.
Having stayed there a few times now we would rate them up there with the best as far as friendly & helpful service goes. The dearer rooms are fantastic & the less expensive still clean & acceptable. A great location.
A.
Great place to stop on our way to Wellington. Dinner in the restaurant was superb as was the service. The room was clean and functional and the included breakfast was the icing on the cake. Will definitely stay here again.
S.
Rooms clean and tidy.
Requested change of room was quickly arranged.
Helpful bar staff …
B.
Really nice place to stay in taupo, lots of room. Very nice staffs. got in house gym and hot spa open until 11pm.
S.
We enjoyed our stay at Wairakei for Christmas. Praveen, barman, was fantastic. Great grounds to enjoy and facilities to use. Top pool needs to be a few degrees cooler in summer, also should look at investing in another cooler pool with a slide or two for the children.
Christmas dinner was good.
C.
My stay at Wairakei was lovely for the 2 nights I was there. The room was well appointed for the price we paid, breakfast was very enjoyable and good value at the member's price. All of the facilities available are lovely, clean and plentiful. There's enough for everyone and those that cost are reasonable. The spa's and swimming pools are great. All in all a great stay, and we will be back.
R.
Had an amazing stay at Wairakei Resort perfect weekend getaway. Didnt have to go anywhere pools, spas, sauna, restaurant, bar and more. Staff were lovely, look forward to coming again
B.
We planned a family visit to Wairakei Resort with our youngest adult daughter, her partner and their two children. We booked a family villa and a studio with an interconnecting door. This worked very well for all of us. We had our first night's meal in the bar with our family - was a great experience. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Food was enjoyed by all. We also used the mineral swimming pool. Was great. The second night we had dinner in the Pavillion Restaurant. Food was again great with really good service. This trip was very special to us. We have had a very rough time as a family. My husband was diagnosed with B Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Stage IV earlier this year. He is now nearly at the end of chemo so we decided we wanted to start celebrating and creating new memories for the family. We chose well with our accommodation. Wairakei Resort was a great choice and one I'd recommend for families.
R.
Always a pleasure staying here! Very hospitable and rooms always clean and very comfortable. Access to pools, sauna and leisure centre/gym a bonus.
k.
Raj the Restaurant Manager and his staff were amazing , friendly welcoming down to earth and happy, which was great to come across, , the colour changing lights on the tables were a fantastic touch giving guests an experience of different ambiences and fun with it once they knew they could change the colours themselves , The food was to die for our evening meals were absolutely cooked to perfection with both my husband and i having the Beef, Pork and Lamb dishes over the 2 nights we stayed and the desserts were also amazing we give our highest compliments to the chefs , We would highly recommend the WaIrakei resort for the restaurant alone, The Resort surrounds were beautiful and relaxing and we enjoyed the heated pool directly outside our room which was a great touch , We highly recommend the Resort and look forward to staying again in the future
M.
My family and I absolutely loved staying at Waireki Resort. The relaxed atmosphere and the facilities made available on site were just perfect for my family to unwind and spend time together. The children loved the pool and ensured that a swim was apart of the daily activities. The evening movies for the children were also a hit. Overall a fantastic place to stay, as a couple or a family. Highly recommended!
D.
Very nice stay. The room was good, lovely view. The swimming pool was terrific and the spa pools were great.
Loved the grounds, very very tidy and well maintained. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. Great value for money spent. Would love to stay again.
L.
Iconic location which is looking tired... staff are brilliant though and even if you must avoid using the spa pools as they are broken and a bit dirty... the heated outdoor pool is awesome. Food and wine list outstanding. 3 stars only due to the need of a good refurbishment... staff save it from 2 stars as does location.
D.
For a Resort. The place is over priced. For what you get. Check in took almost as long as the drive to get there. Room was well appointed though. And free wifi... which I wasnt told about neither was it mentioned anywhere in the room.
F.
Great place to stay with good facilities. Some are a little dated but good value for money. Loved the heated swimming pool at night listening to a morepork.
D.
Furnishing in the rooms are a little tired but clean. Service vehicles parking on yellow lines in front of rooms should be reminded to turn engines off or park well away from all guest rooms. Staff friendly and always accommodating. Refurbishing rooms would bring the resort back to high calibre it was renowned for. Main large pool had large quantities of hair in pool. Providing accessories alongside the pool for guests to remove unwanted items would be a simple solution.
M.
My favourite parts of my stay were the hot swimming pools outside and the bar and restaurant. I recommend Wairekei Resort as a relaxing place to stay in beautiful grounds. They even have a tennis court, and a trampoline and playground for children.
S.
We needed a stop over on the way from Wellington so ticked the boxes. Comfy bed in a tired room that needs updating. Food okay but if you are advertising curry with naan bread, serve naan bread not a stale panini. Service good overall
s.
From the time we walk to reception to the bar and dinner it was excellent . We had out standing service from the bar tender he was smaller guy working there the night we where there he was just outstanding in the service he provided.sorry i don't have his name. Our reason for traveling was to support local business in the region . We run our own business in Putaruru and can relate to currant situation every one has being though.
D.
We dined in for breakfast and dinner and food and service was excellent, the Saturday night buffet was the best I've experienced. Rooms are a little dated, and noisy, but overall comfortable.
J.
Stayed at the Wairakei Resort for a conference last week. The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and efficient, the food served in the restaurant was superb (in fact, after 4 of us eating dinner there on our first night, we cancelled our dinner reservation in town for 11 people and all of us ate in the hotel restaurant again - it was that delicious) . The bedroom was immaculate but the bathroom did need to be renovated. We loved the spas and the hot water swimming pools
D.
Very elegant and well maintained common areas. The reception staff were very helpful. Rooms are good but not excellent. Felt a little dated too. Pretty close to the lake and downtown and falls right on the way to geothermal locations.
S.
The location for our meeting and project was totally suited to Wairakei. The service was great and our room was comfortable and warm.
N.
We enjoyed our stay at the Wairakei Resort. It is in a nice location and the rooms were clean. I loved the pool, which was nice and relaxing (although my kids thought it was too hot for them). It was school holidays and the kids enjoyed the evening movie (it started at 7, which was a little late for my kids, 6:30 might be better) and the popcorn that came with it. They give out activity packs for the kids, which was nice. We had to ask for them, even though the kids were standing with me at check in, but I think it depends on the person at check in, whether they give them to you or you have to ask. If the person at check in can't answer your questions, do find another check in person that can, as it seems like some of them are very friendly and knowledgeable and others are less so. We got the buffet breakfast, which the kids really enjoyed. There is a pancake making machine that they really liked. The rooms were clean, but a little outdated (paint peeling on walls), and the beds were comfortable, but the walls are thin, so if there are a lot of people running up and down the hallways or drinking outside, it might be hard to get to sleep, if you are a light sleeper. If you are into tennis, bring your racquets, as they have a tennis court. There is also a small playground. If we stay in Taupo again, we would stay there.
B.
Overall the resort is a great place to stay with great facilities. Our family suite was a good size and well laid out. However, the decor is very tired. The floors required a good scrub to remove the stubborn marks, there was only one bedside lamp for a double bed sleeping two, lounge seating for two when the room can sleep up to four, the bathroom was dated and the shower slider needed replacing.
L.
We were delighted that Wairakei Resort was supporting Taupo Life Ed Dancing function by providing accommodation to out of town guests. We have stayed at Wairakei Resort many times before and have been impressed with facilities.
This time we were not. We were in a room (spacious enough) with no air conditioning- just a ceiling fan. Considering the outside temperature was 32 degrees, we were unable to cool the room down to a comfortable temperature. The fan just circulates the air in the room (which was hot) and does nothing to cool the room, and us, down. When I mentioned this the next morning to reception, I was met with excises rather than genuine concern. Speaking with others who stayed there, they all had the same experience. This has made us less inclined to stay there in the future
N.
On arrival I was greeted by reception who were very helpful. However navigating to our room was taxing (as we had jus driven 4hrs). The Resort itself is immaculate with amazing outdoor landscape grounds. We thoroughly enjoyed the use of the heated pool, but were surprised at having to pay extra, as other Resorts we have stayed at (is normally at no cost) to the guest.
The restaurant staff were very friendly but did find the meals we ordered very expensive.
However, we would definitely recommend to anyone passing through Taupo or as a holiday destination.
Regards,
J.
Great place for people of every age range. Relaxed friendly atmosphere at all times. For the Fitness conscious there's a adequate gym plus squash and tennis courts. The family swimming pool is always well heated and good fun. Rooms are always clean and tidy. Meals are of a very high standard.
T.
A place in history where families can go and relax. The location, space and facilities are just great in a family environment. The buffet breakfast has been a star of this place for years, and the meals with a top chef are great. The hot thermal pools are hard to get out of. This place has a heritage dating back to the early 1900s and with its close proximity to the Wairakei golf courses an excellent place to have a round on either the professional course or the 9 hole resort course. The Huka falls jet boating trips are just around the corner, and you can try out the prawn farm fishing almost next door. (Not that we caught any). The staff are wonderful, we had a new trainee waiter at breakfast who was an absolute delight. Front desk however, need to learn some basic arithmetic before using an eftpos machine, (lucky we checked).
S.
Awesome place for you and your family. Warm lots of pools. They put on movies for kids and give out free popcorn and candy floss for then. All year round winter and summer you can't go wrong here.
B.
Top spot, central to all the thermal stuff. The heated pool is a bonus. Good playground with a trampoline for the kids. Reasonably priced. Took one star off because it needs a renovation. Lots to do in the area.
B.
Friendly service. Rooms are older, still tidy and beds comfortable and the grounds are beautiful! Service was great. Food at restuarant was good. Enjoyed the stay. Lift was broken when I was there and hauling my bag down the stairs wasn't so much fun but overall good.
P.
We stay here often for business and holidays always get great service. Food is good, rooms are old now but are always clean.
Great facility and location.
R.
Bedroom was very presentable, comfy bed. Bathroom clean and tidy with sufficient amenities. The patio could have done with a brush as cobwebs around the table area and seats
Restaurant service friendly and efficient.
Overall stay was thoroughly enjoyable
S.
Excellent restaurant. Wholesome breakfast and dinner. Comfortable and homely villa although a bit dated. But that was not a problem we enjoyed our stay here .
J.
We enjoy staying here, it's our third visit & we plan on more. It's convenient with the golf course through the under road tunnel, then a lovely hot swim which is enjoyed by all guests young & old. It's great to see the families & children have so much fun. A drink in the bar then into dinner in the restaurant, never disappoints & back for breakfast. We love the relaxed feeling and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
k.
Lovely spacious resorts with many amenities to cater for family. Golf course, heated swimming pool and spas, playground and bike hire. Dinner was good too. Only drawback was the thin walls which means you can hear noises from your next door room!
R.
This is a lovely property set in a perfect location. So many activities to do within only minutes. Bungee jumping, white water rafting, helicopter ,jet boat, all within a few miles, Hotel grounds are spectacular with multiple springfed heated pools and also some private hot tub scattered about. Hotel is dated and could use a good updating. Food for the Sunday buffet was excellent and the leg of lamb was outstanding.
Bartender is top notch snd pours a great drink.
P.
We've stayed here a few times over the years and this was the first time without children. While it was great to get a free upgrade we did notice some of the facilities required upgrading.
Notably the spa pools are past it and we visited them for a soak one evening but decided to avoid them on closer inspection.
Our room was comfortable and clean although the bathroom basin required replacement.
We dined in the bar the first evening and found the tempura and fish and chips a bit greasy, also a local craft beer on tap would be a welcome addition.
The heated outdoor pools are excellent and the surrounding gardens and trees give the place a spa feeling.
The staff went out of their way to make our stay a great experience, some more investment in the facility would help them deliver a top notch spa.
C.
Good facilities. Room was good.
Please pass on our appreciation to the Food and Beverage Manager that our waitress Nakita was great - great customer service; friendly person, great communication. She is an asset to your hotel
J.
Have stayed with you several times and always enjoyed the experience, and this time was no different except the restaurant and bar meal menu's have been very much downsized in choice and the meal quality was not what we have come to expect from you it was a little disappointing . otherwise everything else was great.
D.
Great resort facilities but getting a little tired. Good value with large rooms and good facilities. It can get crowded on the weekend so watch the in house breakfast queue. it may be quicker to go elsewhere.
k.
Celebrated husbands 60th birthday here this weekend with friends and family. A big shoutout to Praveen in the house bar who makes fantastic Singapore Slings. Our group kept him busy all Saturday afternoon making different cocktails. His service is amazing and so is his smile. We had a celebration a la carte dinner in the Resort restaurant on Saturday night and the dish selection on the menu was impressive as was the two vegetarian entrees i had. Thanks to all the staff who are so friendly, well trained and give excellent customer service. The rooms are comfy and quite spacious too. Check out the special package deals as its great value. We have stayed here a few times now and we will be returning again.
S.
Clean and comfortable room, fabulous food at the wedding reception and of course the usual high standard of food at breakfast the next morning.
A.
Great location and parking space. Delicious breakfast with lots of yummy details. Liked my balcony. Just a few creaky floorboards but that gave it a historic feel. Would gladly stay there again
S.
Check-in was efficient and friendly. The room was a little tired looking and some of the information books were out of date by about 6years. The price we paid for the room was (in our opinion) a little too much for what we got. However the bed was comfortable and the shower was great. It was clean and tidy. The food from the restaurant was outstanding and the barman Raymond was fantastic. Was left a box of chocolates for our anniversary which was a lovely touch.
T.
The same friendly welcome we always receive at Wairakei. They were very busy and with COVID restrictions in place clearly it was not easy but you never felt uncomfortable or concerned. They took care of us as always. I thoroughly recommend Wairakei Resort for a warm and comfortable winter or summer getaway . The food and service was excellent.
B.
We couldn’t fault the room, the set up of the resort and facilities such as pools, tennis, golf and walks. The dining room was ok but rather noisy with upset young children.
When we arrived home I realised I had left some clothes behind in the wardrobe. Initially I was told by Anita that they hadn’t been found. I suggested someone must have taken them because they couldn’t just disappear. Eventually I persuaded Anita to check for herself. The jacket was there but not the blouse. After much cajoling Anita checked around and the other articles were found having been taken by a supervisor. Why I ask would they leave the jacket in the wardrobe and take the other articles. Thank you Anita for your perseverance. If I hadn't insisted then my cloths would have been lost to me.
M.
Hotel was clean and tidy inside and out. Great service by the 2 managers serving us on checkin and checkout. A complimentary upgrade was provided on arrival and didnt mind us checking out late without any penalties. Great facilities such as the heated outdoor pool was just what we needed after a long trip. The staff has given us no reason to fault the hotel. Keep up with your hard work
D.
We make a point of staying at Wairakei Resort on our way to Mahia and again on our r return to Auckland.
Doing this makes our trips so enjoyable as does the lovely treats that are put in our room for us.
The pool is always a very welcome stopping point, followed by a visit to the bar. Raymond always makes us feel very welcome and the Pavilion Staff do also.
Our room is always most comfortable and the buffet breakfast is delicious!
Q.
Nice family hotel where I stayed one night with a friend. Nice and helpful staff. Have travelled a lot I’d say that the rooms lack in cosyness, just a few different lights would help. Also, an update on the bathrooms would improve the place. Bigger glasses and cups in the kitchen please.
The bar was great and cosy enough. British style. Whe had sliders with our wine which were excellent but expected 3 instead of 2 sliders. Great outside seating near the pool. Staff is attentive and waited quickly to our needs.
A.
Very comfortable, nice facilities. Welcoming staff.
D.
Nice room.(Villa)....but ...our fault...shower was over a bath which was too difficult for my elderly parents to negotiate
Other than that had a lovely stay. Customer service in reception fantastic... same in the Restaurant. Most obliging. Sorted a meal that didn't suit with no issues whatsoever. Thank you for a great stay...what a gorgeous spot in Godzone.
H.
Comfy rooms, they are old, but well maintained. Easy parking, great location, few attractions nearby. and it's only 10 minutes drive away from Taupo. Love the breakfast buffet, love the food and the restaurant! Great service, very professional, probably one of the best kind.

This place is great. I have dealt with the events team a couple of times to organise meetings here and we are always very happy with the results. It's a fantastic place to get away for the weekend as well and very family friendly. It also has enough space that if you want an adults only experience it's not interrupted by tiny screaming humans. Will definitely be visiting again.

Would highly recommend. Have come here a couple of times with my wife and with our family. Great facilities for all ages and things to do and see close by, excellent food and nice friendly staff. 5 stars for me

Fantastic service. Lovely rooms. Prefect for a family getaway as the rooms are well set up and there are lots of activities on site to do. We booked our a conference room for big family dinner, only down side was that we had to get our drinks from the busy bar, otherwise lovely buffet dinner in perfect size room.

We were treated differently by couple of staff probably we being from ethnic countries. Once at the reception was not being provided with information I had to ask for everythijng. Whilst the others were getting all information from very friendly staff with regards to location, swimming towels, maps etc. Second was seated at the only breakfast table that did not have the table set up with napkins and cutlery. All the other table were set up and available. Did question the staff concern.
The strange thing is that we had this bad experience from both ethnic staff. All other Kiwi staff were exceptional with service and so friendly.
Interestingly this does happen in other places too ethnic staff do not respect ethnic customers i dont know why. This is jyst for feed back.

We had a voucher to spend here so we decided we just needed to use it. After wading through the puddles in the poorly drained carpark, we were greeted by very friendly staff at reception.
The room was very comfortable and quiet at night which always makes for a pleasurable stay.
Unfortunately, we didn't realise it was still school holidays so the place was really busy and there was no space for us at the restaurant for dinner. Breakfast in the restaurant was chaotic, as we were informed they were short-staffed, however we were seated with only a short wait. Under the circumstances, the staff coped well.
We enjoyed our stay here and would gladly return, but if we had a choice, we would be staying outside school holidays.
