Reviews of ASB Waterfront Theatre
M.
Small theatre but wide and easy to see the stage even from the back. Nice layout of the foyer and upstairs entrances. Right next to all the shops so a great place to spend the evening from afternoon til dark.
C.
Absolutely gorgeous theater in Wynyard Quarter. Comfortable seats, not a bad view in the house, lobby area is stylish and cool. Lots of food and drink options available in the theater - including the option to order your intermission snacks ahead! Before or after the show enjoy the great restaurants and a walk along the North Wharf.
Q.
Loved the place. Great experience and show. The Maui performance was spectacular.
5 stars
B.
Fairly large theatre on Wynyard Quarter. The entrance is fairly large and can hold quite a few people. There is a bar as well as a cafe on this floor.
Heading down Waikokota Lane leads to Jellicoe Street where there are plenty of food options.
Not too hard to find but the main entrance is on Halsey Street.
H.
A fabulous space, good visibility from all areas of the auditorium, spacious foyers. Really fun design with lighting inside the facade. Ear plugs provided which was much appreciated.
J.
Good auditorium. Sight lines and acoustics are very good.
Downstairs would benefit from more seating and being able to buy tea and coffee without having to go to the attached expensive café/restaurant.
A.
Impressive small theatre near the Waterfront. Has a dedicated parking lot a five minute walk away. Seats are stepped and decent quality. Includes a bar
P.
Excellent venue, great views of the stage from every seat. Reasonably priced refreshments. Plenty of pay and display parking nearby. $15 for 3 hours parking.
S.
A good size to see a play. And looked like good views from most of the seats. Also plenty of great places to eat close by.
O.
Very nice Theatre!!! Great location and views of the Skytower and downtown. Just go and enjoy!!!
D.
Well done ATC. The organisation to keep us socially distanced was great. Your staff is so helpful and friendly especially when I discovered I'd brought the wrong ticket with me. 🤔 And the car parking is so close and easy. Roll on Level 1 when safe!
M.
Have had great experiences every time I come here to see shows. The seating arrangement is great, with plenty of leg room, and even the highest back seats have a great view of the stage. I appreciate the colours of the seats, it makes for a fun atmosphere. The bathrooms are clean and well kept. The staff are always very professional. I like the design of the spiral staircases as it allows more space for the foyer.
S.
Theatre staff are always helpful. Drinks, alcoholic and non available. Snacks are available too. I have not been there when their cafe was open, though so I can't comment on that. I have never had a bad view with seating, but that could be luck. It is fairly new still, so does have a freshness to the atmosphere and the seating. Situated in the waterfront where one can stretch the legs and go for a stroll, look at a boat or explore the area's facilities a bit more.
R.
A great theatre. Not too large so a good view of the stage from anywhere. The seats are so well tiered you would be very unlikely to have your view blocked by the person sitting in front of you. The ushers were helpful and friendly. The pre booked theatre parking was good too. No hassles. I hope to enjoy more shows in this venue.
A.
Fantastic show" Shortland Street The Musical" world class entertainment. In beautiful part of town.
D.
Nice, modern facility. Good view and acoustics in the theatre. I was in the back section seated in the centre. Only down side was there is no centre aisle and theatre is about 40 seats wide. So sitting in the centre means you have to squeeze past 20 other patrons. So if you think you might need to visit toilets during the show, you don't want to be where I was.
N.
A great location adjacent to the waterfront with plenty of eating out options. It's clean, functional and new and has a lift up three stories so it's nice in that way. However it has no real character or any wow factors. The seats are uncomfortable after an hour or so. The downstairs cafe is very average with the worst coffee, served only in paper cups, I've had in years. The sound quality for the movie I saw there recently was complete rubbish so the theatre seems to be primarily geared to live theatre.
c.
The property was clean easy to access with good parking. The food was pretty nice as well. The seats were OK but there was nowhere to place a drink or water bottle in the theater
S.
This was my second at the theater and it is lovely! The restaurant and/or bar below is pricy and then again, at venues like this, they always are. It is a nice polished venue to enjoy some live theatre. Limited seats so intimate. Look forward to seeing more shows at this venue!
G.
Fabulous small theatre. Very helpful staff, and great environment. Be prepared to pay far too much for very average wine 🙂.
K.
This theatre was new. The sound was crystal clear. Seats were comfortable. Easy to find our seats and the staff where helpful.
b.
Lovely theater with excellent seating and good stage views.
S.
Wonderful venue for Auckland Theatre Co.
c.
Busy entertainment centre to watch the latest shows. Pre show packages, interval drinks available. Also open for dinner
J.
What a wonderful facility. Great auditorium. Public facilities are well thought out.
Great venue for the ACT PARTY launch.
Party vote ACT and Judy with a Y, why because we can.
N.
Brilliant play - first of the 2021 season for ATC!
Service a little patchy in the new wine bar, probably due to some newcomers on the team. I did appreciate the apology from the team leader.
A.
Super theatre. Sounds is excellent, good views from anywhere. Great play.
J.
Have only been once for a recent show for the cherry orchard. The theatre was very nice and new. The alcohol is quite expensive if you're a younger person like myself and gf. There's also not many places around the theatre so arrive on time cause there's nothing else to see and bring your snacks and beers cause there's no corner stores. The seats were good and the theatre was smaller and more intimate. The set seemed very basic, like one wall that was merely dressed a little different scene to scene, but I really didn't mind cause that seems like theatre to me.
A.
This is always a great venue and an ideal location for a drink or food before or after a performance.
The systems in place for social distancing work smoothly and have been done carefully.
A.
Awesome Goldilocks set-up, right venue size for smaller gigs. Great view from almost every seat; even the seats further back feel close enough to the stage to generate this intimate feeling. Bar in lobby is great but just avoid the bar snacks; especially the food platter.
E.
Great theatre. Excellent seat rake. Awesome staff. What more can you ask for 👍
T.
Strange location for a theatre. Parking not great and only expensive places to eat and drink close by. Small inside which makes it quite intimate and adds to the dramatic experience. Bit of a bottle neck upstairs to get to the entry doors.
A.
Nice theatre but we bought tickets K21 and K22 for Winding Up and had a sound technician and all his equipment right in front of us. Was quite distracting and his head being higher blocked some view. When selling tickets that are compromised it should be noted when you are at the selection stage.
A.
Great theatre for productions/musicals/plays. Saw The Mousetrap- Sat in circle row C. Excellent diction and sight views great. Lots of restaurants bars around for pre/post entertainment.
L.
We had fantastic seats in the front row of the circle. We could see the whole stage without any barriers. Lovely theatre, great asset for Auckland's waterfront
A.
Modern theatre squashed into the available space on the waterfront. Don't bother to turn up early for the bar or foyer area - they're uncomfortable and not worth it. Enjoy the rest of the waterfront and then come here for your wine and your world-class show!
M.
Auckland's best new theatre for the dramatic arts and the home of Auckland Theatre Company. All of the 650 seats have a great view. It has a nice bar and cafe in an awesome location. A beautiful light sculpture by Leo Villareal dances permanently up the 3 story high inside wall and can seen from some distance at night
L.
Saw the premier of The Girl on the Bridge directed by a friend of ours, Leanne Pooley. Very moving! Struck a chord! Great venue and vibe.
K.
A wonderful theatre. ATC is centred here these days and you can always bet on their shows being outrageously good.
The theatre itself is new and very clean and shiny. Lovely set up. Quite intimate seating arrangement - this is not a huge theatre. Tickets are quite affordable to most shows and ATC does $30 tickets to certain showings for people aged under 30.
They have parking available which works out cheaper than using the public parking nearby.
Loads of great restaurants around to get dinner at before a show. Baduzzi in particular is a winner.
P.
The ultimate in intimate theatres with a very close feel, in a very smart setting and even the hope of parking
J.
Amazing theatre! Lots of places for a lovely meal close by.
I.
A modern 600 seat venue with fly tower. This theatre has an intimate auditorium with good sightlines.
There are plenty of options in the surrounding area for a drink and dinner before an evening show, and there is an on site cafe.
R.
Intimate wee theatre...great for date night and v generous discount for AUT students.
H.
Love its stark contrast to Civic. ASB Waterfront adds to the network of Auckland's entertainment/theatre hubs and in a very good way!
N.
Great venue to watch some wonderful plays and musicals. The restaurant and bar downstairs are staffed by knowledgeable and friendly staff. They offer great options for pre-theatre dining.
S.
OK I was only apart of the filming crew!! But for Pacific Dance NZ to launch their 2019 in there space!! Was amazing!!! From when you enter to when you leave they look out for everyone, from crew, performers and the guest and even the Directors of the feastival did not need to say any more...it was 100%, the venue, dressing rooms was warm, open and clean I was only there to film but I felt right at home! Youur hospitality and service went beyond which ended in an amazing pacific launch!!! Miss yous already!!! Chehoooooooo
C.
What amazing staff very accommodating, comfy seats, nice wine selection, super clean toilets. I look forward to going back to see another show.
L.
Modern and interesting theatre. Very well maintained and stage is large and well appointed. Staff are friendly and make finding your way around easy.
J.
Lovely theatre well set out great to have spacious loft for those requiring it loved the colorful interior of theatre large roomy seats plenty of leg room bug spacious foyer great helpful staff.
A.
Lovely to be able to go out to a live show and thanks for being so organized with social distancing, scanning QR codes and lots of hand sanitizer
R.
Had a great evening here the show was good the place was well run and the staff friendly and helpful.
K.
Quick with serving refreshments. Loads of toilets for ladies so large queue moves very quickly at interval. Good views from all areas even right up in top circle.
A.
Great place I have to travel by mobility scooter and was made to feel really welcome. Staff all assisted with a big smile and a very happy disposition. Will definitely go there again to more shows. Alex Jamieson
T.
Great theatre, not too big, 5 mins from ferry and train so easy to get to. Serve Stash Earl Grey tea that was pre ordered for the interval and it was freshly made. Ka pai!😀
C.
Good venue, well laid out with no restricted views of the stage. Lift available for wheelchair access. Always a bit of a traffic jam at intermission or at the end with the stairs.
m.
I went and saw 1984 here. They venue is amazing with fantastic acoustics. They cast was extremely clear and it wasn't too echoey. I owuld highly recommend going to see a play here if the chances arises.
A.
Rushed booking, resulting in a brilliant meal, lubricated with a good chianti and to the theatre in plenty of time.
K.
Beautiful venue, good acoustics, friendly and helpful ushers, lovely bar staff (and great selection too - I do recommend their hot chocolates).
R.
Great place to see a show. Take a ferry into town, see a good show, a meal and ferry back. Great life styles available in Auckland!
R.
Beautifully designed, acoustic sound system and comfy seats !!
V.
First time visitor. Very impressed with the venue and the show *Maui* was INCREDIBLE!
V.
Excellent venue. I have enjoyed every production that I've been to.
M.
Comfortable and stylish theatre. It still feels very new and the foyer is very modern with some tables to enjoy a beverage before the performance
l.
Theatre is a delight, watched George Elliot up in the circle audio rocked.
The snack bars could be better configured, perhaps by using architects that understand manaakitanga on a very large scale I am reminded of the movie SULLY where all the mathematical algorithms were no match for human experience and understanding situations.
A.
Awesome Theatre.
Massive stage and Great sitting plan.
Walking distance to Britomart.
Nice bar and clean toilets too.
A.
Really nice venue! Clean and tidy, lots of space. Bar is reasonably priced and staff is friendly and helpful.
T.
Great little venue hosting some excellent shows, but the stairs can be hard work for the not fully able bodied.
L.
Great auditorium. Stairs are a nightmare at interval and the end of the show. No loos mid level, ?? Everyone must go to ground floor... Design fault surely?
A.
Wonderful new theatre but choose seats near the aisles in the stalls. We were in the middle and had to get passed lots of people to get to our seats.
K.
Lovely theatre. Lots of seats. Sat in circle and had a good view of the movie during NZ International Film Festival.
D.
Headquarters of the Auckland theatre company presenting modern and modern interpretations of classic plays. Always thought provoking and well produced. The halsey st kitchen provides a pre show dinner or light snack
J.
Excellent intimate theatre, catering well for diners pre-theatre. It was full so we went around to the bar area and I had very nice arancini balls.
E.
I am with ASB for a very long time and I know its reputation and reliabilities when it comes to their service. ASB Waterfront Theatre is a place at Wynyard Quarter, where top-notch shows are conducted. Nothing beats it. However, the visual of the place is something uplifting for your view, as I have uploaded a shot I photographed with my DSLR and post-processed it. All Hail ASB Waterfront Theatre!!!
S.
Better as a live performance venue. Okay for film viewing experience. Seating comfortable, not too cramped.
D.
One of the best medium sized theaters ever. Seats are a decent size and plenty of legroom
A.
Welcome new theatre space in the city. No such thing as a bad seat in the house. Lots of places nearby to enjoy a meal before or after the show.
R.
Beautiful theatre! Wonderful night out and loved the show Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead. Definitely one to watch.
N.
Went for the last night of Two Ladies. Wonderful evening! I loved the play.
S.

L.
