Reviews of Basement Theatre
c.
Easy parking, great bar and the show was both poignant and hilarious!
B.
Small but cute theatre. Have been to both the upstairs and downstairs theatres and they both have a good vibe. Upstairs is by far smaller and looks like a half converted loft space (which I guess it is). Bar is cool with an outside food trailer usually there to cater snacks. We were there to see Brendan Green (and guests) last time which was awesome :)
T.
Excellent performances from talented local artists, the magnificent theatre and casual bar are perfect for all of your evening entertainment needs. Offers a yearly subscription for attending multiple shows a year and creates a community out of its audiences. A must-go for the true Auckland Central experience.
A.
A nice small theatre. The studio is tiny, and tend to be quite hot even on winter. Paid parking are a hit and miss depending on the day. The entrance is quite tricky to find as it's not the the main road, but at the back of the building instead. The lounge has an interesting decor and friendly bartender. The ticket locket is like a pigeon hole next to the door to the studio/stage.
G.
Great venue for fringe theater with a bar on site and a dumpling truck out front. The bar serves a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including cocktails. Toilets were clean and tidy.
T.
Great place to be lost in. Many theatre rooms, atmosphere is funky and very entertaining. Melody Rachel was awesome very energetic and clever. Thank you Basement for continuing to support artists and their journey.
L.
If you love live theatre or have just always wanted to check it out then go see a show at the Basement. An eclectic mix is always on the cards with a cute theatre space and upstairs studio. Ticket prices are always reasonable and a drink at the bar is essential. Weekends often have a party vibe after shows with dj's playing. Great staff and brilliant shows, what more could you ask for? Go enjoy the family vibe and don't forget to grab some food from the bao truck, delicious!
R.
Basement is a space I have watched shows, performed for shows and attended numerous events! It’s a very cool space especially for the independent artist! It’s a safe, creative, cool and professional environment! The team is amazing!
S.
Cool spot! Reasonably priced drinks along with quality acts for an overall decent night!!
G.
Great for comedy shows :)
Gets packed.
The squeeze in seating that is movable forces audience to step on each other's toes :(
Perhaps 1-2 less rows would alleviate.
R.
Went few times and I liked every single time. The place is cool. I never ordered a drink, but almost everyone who I met there was having a drink, mainly beer. My tip is: on Wednesday the shows are cheaper :)
A.
Great venue and a cracking comedy show!
The wine tastes like pop mixed with vodka but stick to a beer and you’ll be fine.
T.
Always top quality shows, a lovely venue. We've enjoyed many Comedy Festival gigs, and super local theatre acts. Grab an ice cream from the bar too - yum! Parking nearby can be tricky / expensive / full, but it's well worth it anyway.
V.
Such a great intimate venue. It's so small that the show is really in your face and impactful!
Á.
Thought provoking plays, challenging the mainstream. Nice, "alternative" vibe in a small, intimate setting, with a little bar for that after-show socializing.
A.
Had a great time during comedy festival. Great venue. Comfortable seats and fine drink options too. If you like walking, it's not too far from Britomart station plus you enjoy the music and lights coming from different venues when walking along the Queen street.
T.
Great show, tickets online too tough to use, MISTAKE, but very good night.
N.
Really cool venue - small and intimate, but still large enough to have a good atmosphere! We went and saw Santa Claus performed by A Slightly Isolated Dog - done in 'french' accents and were hilarious! Our 'personality' was Tom Sainsbury - and lived up to his awkward persona! Definitely laughed hard and loved the crowd interaction! Going next year for sure!
A.
Really great venue. Just watched te waka huia play for matariki festival and it was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. I would definitely attend this venue again for another production. Awesome guys well done. I liked how there are refreshments and music in the bar at this venue. Seems to be family friendly as children could attend the play. Good friendly service and great customer vibe.
A.
Really loving the atmosphere here! It always has a good proposal of local shows and upcoming talents. There's a cheap Wednesday ticket and a cool bar at the entrance. Would totally recommend!
C.
Best place in Auckland to see up and coming talent. Great policies on diversity and inclusion in terms of shows performed. Everyone is welcome here and the staff are always bend-over-backwards helpful with any issue. Particularly love their decision to make the toilets 'mainly sitting' and 'mainly standing' 😊 Also just a great place to go for a drink and hang in a totally accepting environment.
S.
Great theatre venue with excellent bar. If you are early you can order from the Tanukis Japanese restauraunt menu! Theatre is small and intimate with all seating giving great views of the stage.
T.
Really eclectic inner city venue for immerging performers. Fun to hang out at the bar or outdoor area after the show.
R.
Brilliant love this place, but please do something about the wine list the savvy is aweful!
J.
We enjoy our selection of shows, so it must be good. You can have a drink from the bar and also there is a delivery service from the Japanese restaurant nearby.
S.
Comfortable venue. Great place for a comedy show or a drink.
F.
Small basic theatre. Has a bar. Plastic glasses and you can take your drink into theatre. Find a nearby street park if you don't want to pay for expensive parking right outside
T.
Interesting, eclectic program of performances that demonstrate the diversity of Auckland. Super lovely staff.too.
P.
The show was great fun with the guest actor from shortland street. It was cute seeing the actors react with excitement and awe when he came on stage.
N.
Most of the time I have found little theatre jewels that make the evening worthy! I love The Basement programme and its support to fringe theatre projects.
G.
Always a great Xmas show with a local guest. Good beers and basement vibe.

Awesome comedy and arts venue. Although if you're in the bottom basement, dress lightly, it can feel like a sauna after 15 minutes.
