Reviews of Bridgeway Cinema
m.
Excellent boutique cinema where a lot of foreign films are played. It has a relaxed atmosphere with a handy restaurant right next door. Better behaved audiences than the multiplexes too so phone use and talking is not a problem.
C.
Love this theatre. It is not the closest theatre to me but it is my theatre of choice. Good size seats, good leg room. Not cavernous so has great atmosphere.
I.
Loved this theater you can have lunch and then go to the movies in the same area Theater has 4 small rooms Great value for over 55
D.
Beautiful evening out with the wife
Will definitely recommend to friends
A.
Lovely little theatre. Commendations to the manager who had an incredibly rude and disruptive guest, and dealt with it in a very professional way.
J.
It was a hot Summer afternoon screening for latest 007 movie but was stifling inside ( no aircon). Apart from that it's a groovy old school cinema with reasonable price. Huge choc dip ice cream cone only $5
a.
I feel like the main character when I head out to see a film here. Gorgeous place with a homely, locals vibe. Highly recommend!
C.
A superb cinema experience. The seats are clean and the sound in the cinema is amazing. Highly recommend!
J.
One of the best boutique cinemas in Auckland. Always several good movies showing. Attracts a well behaved crowd of true cinema lovers.
I.
Great little cinema. Love the relaxed atmosphere and the staff added to a great experience.
H.
Great theatre with very comfortable seats and excellent cafe/restaurant.
C.
Great Cinema, excellent staff, lots of excellent movies. Thank you for a fantastic time.
R.
Amazing cinema , very comfy seats and yummy ice creams , the movies was so good and would defo come back here to watch another movie again soon , great to see that the theater has a restuarant close by to have a bite to eat before the movie , parking can get a little hard at some stages not to sure if they have dedicated movie parking but would be worth a ask , the price was made even better once we found out they were on grabone , so instead of paying upwards of say $ 15 for a ticket , we played 12.50 $ each and got the ticket to the movie and an ice cream for $ 12.50 each which was amazing value for money , it was very busy when we went so there were a few lines of people wanting to get tickets and food I would suggest maybe going a little bit early to try your best to avoid these lines , it's great to see that they also have a bar at the cinema and you are allowed to take in your wine glasses to the cinema to enjoy your drink while the movie is playing, there were to may as playing before the movie actually started which meant instead of the movie starting at 730 as originally stated it ended up starting at 745 which was a bit disappointing , less ads would be ideal , especially on a busy night, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and cant wait to go back there again soon I hope lol
R.
Great cinema. Just leave enough time to find a park
H.
This is the cutest little theatre location ever. The staff are friendly. The cafe next door has a busy hum, and a nice range of sweets. The cinema itself has DF ice cream treats which is amazing as most cinemas don’t. Cool little theatres and an awesome vibe. An absolute gem 💎
M.
What a way to bring in the New Year. James Bond and a late dinner with yummy food!
Thanks for having us!
L.
Comfortable seats, easy parking, friendly helpful staff.
L.
Perfect cinema to take your parents love it here
C.
Love it. The decor and the movie choices.
P.
It is a lovely small theatre. They were busy so another person helping with the tickets, food etc would have sped up the process. It was a pleasant experience.
J.
Sporadically booked tickets online last Saturday to see a movie in the boutique theatre. With a booking fee these tickets cost $21.50 each. Small pop-up warning on site that this cinema is smaller. On arrival service was abrupt, could be improved. Entering the theatre we realised that it was claustrophobic. Dust and cobwebs over the screen which we had to clear before the viewing. Seats uncomfy. Expected more for this premium price. Perhaps owners should take notes from Matakana.
M.
Getting a ticket at 11am on Sunday was an absolute mess.
The two unfortunate staff serving the stagnant queue that stretched out the door into the freezing wind were run off their feet by inconsiderate patrons fluffing around ordering individual tickets for the upcoming festivals as well as cups of tea and coffee which the same staff had to run off and make.
As a result, anyone simply wanting to buy a ticket to watch a movie, had to stand and watch this chaos for twenty frustrating minutes.
J.
It's a contrast from the more commercial cinemas with a touch of local influence in that it appears that most patrons are local, though I think some of them think it as their patch. There's a predominance of retirees so you're not going to get cheesey type low rated movies here which is a good thing. It's quaint with one sizable theatre, probably 300+ seating with two smaller ones maybe 100+ seating. There's a cafe right next door with a doorway so no need to exit theatre to go there. Have always found parking at stones throw. This was my third visit within about five years.
N.
This is a great boutique cinema on the North Shore. They have 4 cinemas a good selection of movies both mainstream and offbeat. Prices are about the same as others but a great environment. 😀
D.
Wonderful Cinema. Love going there
B.
Saw Izey& James. Lovely Doco.movie, very comfortable seating,a little cold.
Topped off with coffee & cake next door.Grandaughter had coffee & icecream at theatre.
Very uplifting movie.
K.
Lovely little cinema, and at the time of writing this review it does $5.00 student movies on Mondays! Which I love to take advantage of being a student. 😊
Always get wonderful customer service when I go there and it has a fantastic selection of wines.
Don't forget to like my review if you find it useful. :-)
M.
First visit. The only place showing a movie at the time that best suited us.
Nice theatre, usual facilities and provisions.
G.
Great atmosphere, great theatre!
D.
Great little cinema complex 3 theatres all good size. Excellent choice of wine and nibbles to take into the theatre. Restaurants nearby.
P.
Best cinema - we watched Lion King here for the Disney festival and had such a great time. Awesome crowd and good snack range. Clean and very comfortable - great picture quality and I actually thought the sound was pretty good. Will be back soon!
A.
Quite a cosy theater with very comfortable seating.
K.
Ok overpriced bar and food.seats no to comfy
I.
Love going to Bridgeway to watch movies
D.
We watched the film, The Girl on the Bridge film last night. It was part of the NZ film festival. The staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you to the management for allowing Jazz Thornton to partake in a Q and A Session with the audience after the film. It was so moving most of the audience became emotional and tearful
An emotive subject on mental health and suicide
C.
After a small hiccup via a Groupon voucher, my experience was nothing less than pleasant.
Not large screens of course but very comfortable and roomy seating... The young attendee was very helpful and he even had our popcorn brought to the cinema once it was ready.
A.
Small friendly cinema in Northcote Point close to the inner harbour. With the Clarence Road Eatery right next door, it's easy to do lunch/dinner and a movie. Make sure to purchase one of the excellent ice cream cones while collecting your tickets then stroll down to the water's edge to enjoy it.
R.
Older chap was a bit brash moving people along which wasn’t welcoming. However, the theatre is lovely. Wouldn’t order the cheese platter again, it was presented in a pizza box, suggest they purchase some cheap boards or crockery.
S.
Saw Green Book. Great movie. Not sure why, but all the tickets issues were placed in the back seats automatically. This meant that the 12 or more people who were in the cinema we're all placed on the back two rows. I moved into the middle to get away from others and enjoyed the movie. Well maintained theatre with a great seating area and food options available at the joined eatery.
H.
Have always loved this theatre. Such a great location, friendly staff, the most delicious fruit cake and coffee, and fabulous art house movies.
d.
Beautiful cinema, perfect for a night out watching arthouse/indy films. Service was excellent, great drinks and snacks selection. My first time, will definitely be back again and will be recommending!
A.
Really cozy cinema with a community feel. My movie was shown in one of the small salons though and it was really small. Better suited for French dramas than blockbusters. Love being allowed to bring a glass of wine to your seat.
R.
Cute place for a night out, went to a 6pm viewing on a Saturday here as the larger cinemas didn't have good seats available. Had an enjoyable night out and will look here first from now on. Has nice restaurants and lovely night strolls around the streets as well so a move little bonus
E.
The Bridgeway has great movies. They have wine and coffee as well as icecream and popcorn. And an excellent restaurant next door if you want to make an occasion of it. Discounts from 60 and mobility spaces and a great lift. An experience for all ages.
G.
This is a lovely cinema with lots of legroom and a nice atmosphere. I just wish they'd modernise the process for collecting prebooked tickets because the queue for tickets is the same as the queue for wine, food and (argghhh) coffee and it can take a long time. Surely there can be an eTicket option that doesn't require queuing for a piece of paper and potentially missing the start of the movie?
R.
Simply the best cinema in Auckland. The Bridgeway always has a great mix of new releases, indie movies and special interest options. Easy parking and a nice selection of varying sized theatres. My favourite outing is an early arrival, a glass of wine and a chat and then a good movie. Bliss! R
J.
Love this theatre. Friendly staff. Comfy theatres. Great selection of movies.
B.
Has a great selection of movies and they keep you updated on what's coming.
Eatery next door plus you can choose your own seats when booking. Friendly staff, ice creams and fresh sandwichs at counter.
J.
Lovely little cinema to watch a quiet movie at. Late night showings are the best in my opinion. Very friendly staff and a very clean cinema :)
M.
It as a really good experience thanks team!
S.
What a great local theatre to see a range of movies at. Some of the seating is a bit soft so my back protested a bit. But luckily the movie After the Wedding was not overly long.
J.
Nice little cinema. Heaps of leg room. Suggest booking ahead and turning-up in plenty of times to collect tickets and snacks as it can get very busy here and the ticket counter/snack bar is quite small.
C.
Great staff, was able to return a ticket when one of our party became ill and couldn't come...loved the movie Pavarotti, great choices of movies chosen for the public. Discount days for us pensioners and a restaurant/ cafe next door Clarence St eatery.
W.
Lovely stroll down original cinema days; off the beaten path of regular cinemas; clean & tidy; friendly staff; cafe next door access which is really nice too with their food & staff & environment, suitable for a coffee group or couples or informal meeting, wide menu range; thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at the Bridgeway.
T.
We have been regular customers to this cinema since 1970. It has been upgraded several times and is very cosy and staff are always very welcoming.
R.
We went to view the David Bowie movie just a week after his passing and this was an awesome venue for it. Friendly staff, comfortable seats and awesome coffee. Only problem was there was not enough parking!
R.
This cinema shows good movies that aren't always available at big chain theaters. They serve snacks and alcohol and there is a restaurant inside the centre. Parking is street only, so leave early for parking. Also there is always long queues for tickets and snacks, so get there early.
E.
A local classic. The chairs are a bit long in the tooth now, but still a nice place to catch a slice of art house cinema. If you're looking for a cinema away from the screaming kids and over priced popcorn, The Bridgeway is for you.
J.
Great little movie theatre over the bridge in Northcote, Auckland. Easy to get to and plenty of parking on local roads.
Shows some entertaining films, often quite different to the larger theatres.
Pleasant staff too!
F.
Very comfortable seats and cosy cinema with a few theatres. Good selection of snacks and drinks including wine and hot drinks which you can take into the movies. Parking is available on nearby side streets
D.
A classic picture theater, situated in the heart of old Northcote. Modernized, but with a long history behind it. I have been going to The Bridgeway Cinema, in one form or another, since my childhood. It has changed a lot since my grandfather designed the original theater (and dance hall) with adjoining bus company workshops and has entertained generations of Aucklanders, young and old.
K.
A lovely cinema. Very art Deco style. Have been here several times. Good for those alternative style movies, plus a few mainstream ones too. Terrible for parking, however. I suggest you arrive early.
H.
Lots to like about this local movie theatre - but the acoustics (from the small theatre that I was in) were terrible! Elton John blasting through the walls and spoiling a very quiet (minimalist soundtrack/dialogue) movie.
A.
Generally quiet viewing and very tidy as the customers are older than those the mall cinemas attract. Very nice to be able to take a glass of wine into the theatre with you.
M.
Not the most comfortable seating but such a congenial atmosphere. They always have such friendly and welcoming staff. I love this place. If only the same could be said about the cafe next door which fails on every level
M.
Great little cinema. Always top class movies and comfortable seating. Being a Silverbridge member, there are benefits including a nice glass of wine for $5.
R.
A great little theatre, love going there.
L.
Busy and quaint little cinema. Great cafe next door. And also an interesting neighborhood.
A.
Very nice boutique cinema complex. Place to see interesting slightly out of the ordinary films. You can get coffee before attending or take advantage of the adjacent Clarence Road Restaurant.
S.
Its a little win, win when you can get yourself a senior SilverBridge pass to watch movies anytime for 8 bucks$ and lets throw in an icecream for 2.50 for good measure. Love this cinema and all its theatres.
D.
Bridgeway is a small, comfortable movie theatre that shows popular and Arty films. If the film that I want to see is showing at the Bridgeway then it is my preferred theatre. In general almost all of the films that I want to see do get shown there and so it is just about the only theatre that I use.
B.
Only three attended an 8 pm showing on a Sunday. All facilities seemed to be good, clean and modern. Staff friendly.
G.
Great boutique Cinema situated on Northcote Point, a very quiet and relaxed area of North Shore, Auckland. At Bridgeway Cinema they are showing just very good quality movies, most of them being award winners at some International film festivals. Before or after movie you can enjoy some good food or drinks at some of the pubs or restaurants in the vicinity which again can be classified between the best restaurants and pubs in Auckland. The pubs in the vicinity are blending so nicely with the specific of the suburb, respecting the same kind of character and atmosphere you can experience at Bridgeway Cinema.
D.
Great little cinema. Arthouse and International films front and centre. Not a big place but that's part of the joy. Reasonably priced nibbles and a liquor licence, this is the full package. If the movie I want to see is showing here I'd Bridgeway Cinema over a mainstream cinema everytime.
G.
Very good theatre with comfortable, roomy seats and very good viewing and sound. Great cafe next door too
C.
Would be a higher rating but its so expensive. Nice enough people and place.
V.
This is our favorite cinema. Very intimate. Easy to park. So much better than the big chains. The young staff are nice too.
R.
Comfortable. Great movie choices. Quality beverages. Quality seating.
J.
In boutique cinema which was nice but there was a lot of dust on the screen which could have done with a clean
K.
I have always wanted to come here and when a grabone voucher come up, we went along and really liked the place. It's a shame they don't have cup or glass holders in the seats. However i would definitely recommend coming here and i will be back again
K.
Great local movie theatre

Comfy seats. Good selection of toasted sandwiches. Lovely coffee and ice cream all able to be taken to your seat.
d.
Lovely little cinema only about 25 seats making it very cosy and nice and friendly loved it
P.
Bridgeway is a classy boutique cinema complex, that holds some of that old Auckland seaside charm. There is an adjoining cafe and a small number of eateries in the surrounding suburb of Birkenhead. Enjoyed Bridgeway, our movie and had a micro holiday enjoying walking and driving around the suburb afterwards.
D.
Lovely cosy and Romantic Cinema
S.

I liked this little hidden gem on the shore. I'm keep on going back there for movies.
Sometimes they have some movies that big franchise movie theaters (like Event and Hoyts) don't play. 😊
M.
Movie was excellent. S.all boutique theatre. Unfortunately the theatre was extremely hot & no lights came on at the and of the movie too see your way out.

M.
Very comfortable seats, friendly personnel. A little off mainstream selection of movies, which suits category of people attending the cinema.
P.
Good cinema with great selection of quality films. Great cafe/restaurant next door: Clarence Rd Eatery.
M.
Neat little cinema very clean and little pricy small tub of ice cream 4.99 . If you like to have a wine or beer with your movie they offer this service 😀
T.
Lots good about Bridgeway. Why they sell ice-cream cones in crunchy, noisy, cellophane wrappers though I can't understand. Wine choices are also limited and outrageously expensive.
S.
Great film. Cinemas are really cosy and the seats are so comfortable.
J.
Always a pleasant experience. Helpful staff. Comfortable seats. Tops in the boutique theatre experience.
J.
Superb friendly service from the lady selling the. cinema tickets and food at the Bridgeway cinema. I've never known a cinema to be so popular on a weekday particularly during the day....must be the good service!!!

a great little hideaway cinema near two great restaurants, though you will probably need to book for the engine room if you want a table there.
S.
Gorgeous decor, great ice-creams, comfortable seats, intelligent movies.... what more could you want??
R.
Pretty much a North Shore institution and best place to see indie/art film fare in Auckland (aside from the Hollywood Cinema in Avondale of course!)
