Reviews of Ti Point Reptile Park
R.
Such a well kept park. My 2.5yr old just loved it!! She walked/ran the whole way round even up the stairs. You could take a pram but you would have to turn around at the last enclosure and it would be quite steep return. Lots of shade and spots to stop for a rest and a snack.
Animals are happy and staff are lovely!!
L.
Really great value and experience for the admission fee you pay. The park may seem small but make no mistake that their reptile and turtle exhibits is probably the best in all of NZ. You will definitely be wowed when you come here.
J.
We had an amazing day out. The reptiles were so much fun to discover. The walk around the park was beautiful aswell with perfect spots to stop and have a picnic. I would highly recommend Ti Point Reptile Park to anyone who has a love for reptiles or people willing to discover them for the first time. If anyone is looking for a fun day out this is the spot for you. I know we will be back.
C.
We had a wonderful time, the property is set on a sloping hill we wondered down through different layers discovering many cool reptiles. It was a "wheres wally" of fun, looking for a reptile and then bang they would be right in front of me just blending in. Great place for kids and families. Be sure to check out the large sun house as well with reptiles and tropical plants. I look forward to another visit!
P.
Maiden visit to this reptile park. What a lovely spot for a fun family activity! I would encourage you to visit if you haven't already. Kids of all ages and adults alike would enjoy this.
N.
An amazing display of reptiles ,turtles, iguanas even alligators.
Not super friendly for the infirm ,quite a lot of concrete paths, which is good. Toilets are a bit out of the way, down stairs or via a metal path. How ever still worth a look .
N.
Excellent private reptile park. Lots of fun for kids and adults. Many native species hard to see in the wild. Recommend to all
M.
16 of us Mid Lifers visited the reptile park, only one of us had been before. Everyone really enjoyed it and those with Grandchildren intend to go back with their grandchildren, they thought it was so good. Reasonably priced too. Great activity for the whole family. Mike was very informative and great at explaining things to us too.
Some of us were fascinated by the heated plastic house with the reptiles in there, and how they were so active in the warmer surroundings. It is well laid out too so you can see all the reptiles in their enclosures.
Highly recommend going there. Don't expect a Modern Zoo as it is a private collection.
P.
Really enjoyed our visit. Rough sea and windy conditions had thwarted our snorkelling plans so were looking for something to do. Very happy that i noticed this place nearby on google maps. Yes the place is far from new but not nearly as run down and neglected as indicated by some of the older reviews. Lots of activity and plenty to see.
The staff were friendly too :)
B.
What a truly awesome place to visit. Highly recommend a couple of hours there . The enclosures are Large and reptiles WELL looked after . Some information signs are faded due to sun but Hey , open ur eyes and you can guess what they may say . The "Old Private Zoo" that is now the Reptile Park was built on a sloping ridge which has some steeper bits , HOWEVER around native Bush corners are enclosures scattered throughout . At only $20 an Adult it's a Lovely place to visit
H.
Cool place if you love reptiles. Not a huge range of animals but a cool trip regardless
A.
The reptile park was so cool, much more than I expected, not student pricing , suggested it to the lady working though. Would love to come back again soon. I see some posts say the paths are small, yes they are but really thats just nit picking. The paths are fine. It's a super cool place to visit!! Loved it!!
L.
Lots of nz geckos! For a family the alligators and iguanas will be a crowd pleaser. Really beautiful gardens in a great spot - perfect after a morning of snorkelling. To really get your money's worth, I would take a picnic lunch. My first visit was 15 years ago and since then I've seen lots of the overseas species here in the wild :) The reptiles seem really healthy and are breeding so I think whoever looks after them really knows what he/she is doing.
S.
Fantastic place - well cared for selection of reptiles - from Crocs through to Bearded Dragons. Wonderful walk with breathtaking views. Bring your own picnic and sit back amongst these spiky creatures . We will be back.
F.
Lots of cool lizards and two croc/alligators. Kids had lots of fun. All the geckos and newts are hard to find but gets better as you go along for small kids.
Dont miss out on the big greenhouse.
Also, the path is VERY steep and slippery in some places so definitely would not advise for people with mobility issues.
Could do with a bit of maintenance but still good value and a good day trip out.
T.
Visited today and had an excellent time! Was a bit of a hike around the loop but was definitely worth it and found a new appreciation for reptiles 😊 only bad thing was the faded signs with species name and facts on them so no idea what the big green lizard is but still love it!
I.
Clearly maintained by people who care, the place is immaculate and tidy, with each of the inhabitants matched with its specific needs.
Knowledgeable staff and informative signage add to the experience.
E.
A good place to take kids and learn more about reptiles. Very friendly and helpful staff. A good variety of reptiles around for all to learn about. Will surely recommend a visit. You can cover the entire park in a matter of 2 - 2:30 hrs.
A.
Love this place. So many creatures to see, and the park is large and spread out so there are no issues with crowds. The pricing is very reasonable and the staff are lovely. The place has a very relaxed atmosphere, you can just wander wherever you like. No food sold on site but plenty of places to bring your own food and have a picnic. Have been here 8 times over many years and will definitely be back!
M.
Lovely place to take your kids to. Lots of animals to explore: geckos, turtles, tortoises, alligators and more. Toilets at the beginning, then simply follow the signs through the park. Very spacious and lots of picnic tables to have a rest. Took us about an hour to get through, but you can easily take longer than that.
R.
Incredible place to take you kids and even as a adult was so awesome to see reptiles 🦎 you don’t often see. Great display with each different animal and info on each one. Really would recommend this place for you kids
V.
Been driving past this place for years and finally went in. Highly recommend it. Kids loved seeing all the different kinds of reptiles, turtles and the odd spider or 4.
Loved the little Bush walk coming back up the stairs.
V.
Great couple of hours looking in enclosures to find reptiles. Friendly staff who were super helpful. Located in what was previously a private zoo on a steep site overlooking the water toward Little Barrier Island. Plenty of spots to admire the view as you climb around the site. Not suitable for prams. Great place to visit for fans of reptiles.
V.
Lovely place to see both native and other reptiles. The terraria are really well made recreating their natural habitat so you can spend lots of time looking for the creatures. They look all healthy and the domain is stunning to walk through.
L.
Great view and an amazing collection of reptiles. Would recommended if you can pick what day you visit, try aim for a sunny day as I've found there's more chance of seeing a sunbathing creature.
J.
Very interesting park for Reptiles, spotted a Monkey there as well.
Not for elderly or very young children are parts of the paths are unsealed
and steep. Don't go on a rainy day. Large selection of Lizards, Turtles,
Tortoises, Alligators and even a monkey. Not far from Leigh and about
15 minutes from Warkworth.
R.
Definitely recommend - a great walk through beautiful plants, lovely sea views and so peaceful. Lots of different and interesting animals to see, some we have never seen before. Kids loved it too!
W.
Took the grandchildren 5and 8,we all loved it,we took a picnic and sat out on the picnic tables not suitable for pushchairs lots of steps ,we had a very good day
D.
The place is kinda old, but it has been surprisingly well maintained and has plenty of geckos, skinks, tortoises, turtles, alligators, iguanas, bearded dragons, and some other reptiles too. Definitely worth a visit.
T.
Great for something different to do with the kids.. Special needs son gets in for free. Steep hills and lots of steps so no good for mobility issues.
C.
Great to see continuous development of the park. I have been going there for several years and love it!
J.
Beautiful spot for a family adventure, the park is easy to find with good parking, and the animal enclosures are beautifully cared for. Best time to go is around midday so the lizards are visible while sunning themselves. Some steep terrain so I wouldn’t say it’s wheelchair or pushchair ‘friendly’ but you could access some parts if you wanted to.
T.
This place was really good,we enjoyed every part of it.And the keeper was really friendly and informative.
Great place for kids.
T.
People are saying that it's hard to find your way around, or the paths are too steep. But I did not care at all! There were so many animals I've never seen before! Tarantula, lizards, alligators, monkeys and much more!
C.
Loved the bell phase lace monitors. Good condition, walkway at the end is quite slippery so no flip flops I suppose.
T.
Really enjoyed my time here. The park exceeded expectations with a wide range of things to see.
L.
We all had a lovely time exploring the park. Well worth the visit.
M.
What a wonderful place. Bush, views and of course amazing little reptiles
A.
So many different species of reptiles.
K.
Great value for money, great place for the whole family. Does involve a little walking
D.
Superb! All kids and any adults interested in wildlife will love it. Allow a couple of hours to see everything. Some of the interpretation panels are too faded to read, otherwise everything looks great, no shortage of cool lizards, tortoises, turtles of loads of tyoes to see and even a couple of decent sized Alligators :)
M.
Really like this park, nice walk and fun finding the reptiles
M.
Lots of awsome animals that you wouldn't get to see often, definitely worth a visit.
S.
Awesome value for money, you get to see the creatures far closer than any zoo I have been to
K.
Loved the place. Kids and adults all enjoyed ourselves. Would recommend people to visit this place.
M.
This place was awesome . Alligators, tarantulas even a monkey and the views of the surrounding ocean and Bush were breathtaking BUT...... remember to take proper footwear lots of hills and steps and I would say not a place for the elderly or people in wheelchairs
S.
Awesome exotic reptile Park that you don't see many of these species in any zoos in Nz. Worth the go!
T.
Beautiful natural setting. Bit of an uphill battle & hard on the legs at times, but so worth it!
N.
Well worth a visit. Pretty cool (from an 11yr old)
C.
Go here if you're not looking for an 'over-manicured' tourist experience. Don't get me wrong, it's very interesting, the displays allow you to be close enough for some good pics etc., but (mercifully) it doesn't have that over-slick touristy feel in which it can all feel a bit plastic. Talk to the people here and it has a pleasantly authentic feel and it's worth every minute. I've been around the globe to different attractions and this one rates for me. Do yourself a favour, stop by, take the time to drink in the peace of the place, and then enjoy the exhibit proximity that actually allows you to see something. :-) I've posted a pic of a little fella peeking through the plants and that really tells the story.
G.
Nice and a it's different. Were able to see 80%of the animals
R.
Mediocre...needs more attention please. It would be really great to keep the place up and going. Happy to see the reptiles though..
M.
Family friendly, good place to take a picnic lunch as well.
S.
Great place, don't let apperances fool you, some wonderful creatures here, well cared for and an important resource for the University Students
S.
Visited here a few years ago and returned again yesterday and once again had an absolutely brilliant time. Amazing views and a beautiful setting for the exhibits. Brilliantly coloured lizards inluding N.Z.'s very own Tuataras, Alligators, Tarantula's and lots more. There is now a huge enclosure which houses in one section an Alligator that was nesting. Allow plenty of time to enjoy all this park has to offer. To Mark and the team thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon.
c.
Very neat little place, very fun day out
A.
We really enjoyed our trip with our family, our kids were really interested in all the enclosures. We found the outdoor walk no problem, but just have to be careful in some places as it's the middle of winter and a bit slippery. We were fortunate to speak to one of the new staff members, a lady who was off to feed the monkey and she spent a long time talking to us, answering our questions and was really knowledgeable. Great spot!
T.
Awesome place, we went on a sunny day and all the reptiles were out sunbathing.
Good place for young children with plenty of seating and and shaded spaces for lunch.
One steep hill and and a staircase not suitable for pram.
Overall it was a great experience worth the $50 we paid for two adults, two children and an infant.
C.
pretty cool reptile park if you love critters. my reptile craze girl enjoyed it
G.
A great place visit a must for the kids
T.
Thought was expensive when entering but worth every cent. We enjoyed our time greatly. Had 3 children all loved discovering new stuff.
r.
Highly recommend this park. The animals are in great condition and the park well kept. The signage, informing us of what the animals were, where they came from etc, was on point. There are some steep paths and a lot of steps in places so not good for people with mobility issues.
M.
Hidden gem, always driven past this place...but camping at Whangateau had us looking for local attractions. Really well put together park, lots of tracks to explore, and plenty of reptiles. Good for a couple of hours exploring (there are plenty of places to eat a picnic, so feel free to take your own lunch)
E.
Rustic but really enjoyed it. Really cool iguanas, tuataras, skinks, tarantulas, alligators and load of turtles. Lovely setting. Overlooks the sea on one side of the park. Some pathways a little steep but other areas of the park are quite flat and easy to walk.
J.
awesome place, never new it was there.
C.
I don't hate this place. I actually think its amazing but the only thing I will say is that it needs more development done for the animals that live there. Its truly awesome signs need to be updated and stairs and paths need fixing and good lighting needs to be put in .apart from those things it's an interesting awesome place to go and visit.
D.
Really interesting place to walk round. Not suitable for wheelchairs as quite hilly terrain. Support them as some of the displays need a bit of tidy up. Animals all look very well looked after which is great.
G.
We had a great time here!
K.
We hadn't heard about this place and found it by accident. We were blown away. Friendly staff and animals were well looked after. It is worthwhile goggling it and going for a ride to visit. Wish i had my mokos with us, they would of loved it.
k.
Had the best day here.. really impressed with the amount of reptiles..
F.
Was expecting a little back-yard operation but this is a proper Zoo with actual enclosures. There's a fair bit of walking down and back up the hill to see the larger animal enclosures but was so worth it with mixed species such as Turtles, Iguanas, and Water Dragons. The juveniles section was a highlight along with the natives immediately inside the door.
C.
Great to be able to spend some time having a wander around this park looking at all the reptiles. We spent two hours looking could have spent more, some reptiles were hiding so searching for them took a wee bit of time. Check out the monkey! A fun and interesting place. Well worth a stop.
d.
Awesome place the monkey is the best loves mandarins
L.
Loved it!
Definitely worth the visit even though the weather wasn't very nice.
So much to look at, very interesting for all ages and very reasonably priced.
Will certainly be back and will recommend to others.
S.
Definitely has potential. Would say is UNDER maintained, due to some enclosures being empty and overgrown weeds have taken over. Is a bit of a walk to get down to lower enclosures and a steep climb back up.
Good for young children. Toilets nice and maintained. Definitely glad I purchased Groupon vouchers at 50% off cause $20 for 1 adult is definitely not worth the $$.
V.
Great place kids really enjoyed it
C.
Cool little spot in middle of nowhere. Place is somewhat run down so expect it to be rough round d the edges but that 's also its charm ... its NZ! Plenty to see and great for the kids so worth a visit.
J.
It was a pleasure. I had forgotten my eftpos and only had a credit card which they dont accept. Anyway managed to direct deposit into their bank account meaning our trip from Auckland was not in vein.
The enclosures are great and it feels like they care about the animals.
H.
This place may not look like a stereotypical zoo or sanctuary but that's what makes it so cool. There has been thought and planning gone into the biohabitats with tailored terrains and foliage.
The lizards look well fed and healthy - if you know lizards at all you know what to look for - but these guys all had plenty of room and obviously get lots of attention. The loop walk goes through bush - it's lovely. Just wear flat shoes for the hilly parts of the walk and it's just fantastic. We are going back again on a really fine day - it was windy and squally and raining today but we still loved it. A must for lizard lovers...
D.
Brought 18 month and 3yr old here and they loved it. Only downside was the steep paths so couldn't take stroller, but too far to walk so just carried the toddler.
K.
Great fun, and will definitely be back in the summer when the reptiles might be a bit more social.
n.
Amazing walk through the bush. Kids loved the turtles and water dragons. Incredible iguanas. A definite must see.
M.
Always friendly staff and nice diverse reptiles. You can see they are taking good care of the animals.
N.
Nice natural like environment featuring reptiles. Good mix of lizards, spiders, alligators, turtles and tortises etc. Best to go later in day when the sun is shining as the reptiles are easier to spot basking in the sun. The paths/steps can be slippery if wet so best to take some hiking/outdoor type shoes.
J.
I had a great time in the sun with my grandson. The reptiles we saw were great, but, I was amazed at the enclosures they were in. They were so tidy. Loved the bromiliads.
N.
A bit more expensive than I thought it should be, but ultimately a neat little place tucked away in the hills. I feel that they have too many of the same species spread out all over the park too. Loved the monkeys (but they're not reptiles?!). Be sure to wear grippy shoes that you don't mind getting muddy!
C.
Well worth a visit , lots of interesting creatures to see , however if you don't like steps up n down caution ..its very up n down..
T.
The park is spread around a single loop that drops down the hill from the entrance. Most not wheelchair or buggy friendly, but the top part is. Heaps and heaps of interesting creatures to see. The Australian lizards are at the top, alligators and monkey are about half way down, turtles at the bottom, and iguanas, spiders and the tuatara on the way back up. Various skinks, geckos and tortoises at points along the route. Many of the animals are in inside enclosures with heat lamps, so the tuatara was easily visible. Some are quite curious about visitors, though I think the monkey was just checking in case we had some food. We were hesitant to go on a rainy day, but we did and there were still lots of tortoises, lizards and turtles out and about. Well worth a visit.
C.
Was good but there were alot of empty cages and it needed more maintenance. Nice day out for the kids though. I wouldn't go when it was WET or with a pram because it is rather steep.
z.
LOVED THIS PLACE, so many wonderful reptiles to see, I could have spent 3-4 hours walking around, yes it may not be flash and fancy who cares, all the animals are very happy and well cared for and the new enclosure it just fantastic, its well worth the visit and all kiwi kids need to go, great learning experience, spent hours looking for all the camouflaged geckos, absolutely loved it
J.
Reptiles in a park. It is what it says it is. Take time to look harder, you'll see more and won't be disappointed. Go when the sun shines, the reptiles bask and the flies (lunch) moves. Parking just outside. Steep hills could be an issue for less able. Affordable family fun. Good alternative outside activity.
J.
Great park ... Animals are all super well looked after .. Perfect for a small little 2 hour stroll if your around Matakana.
J.
Gteat place.right by the sea. Quite steep tracks but kids love the adventure through lovely bush surrounds.Turtles.geckos.lizards.
.alligator... love going there..take a drink bottle & picnic after at seating area.
N.
Visited with a group of school students with special needs, and we had a fantastic time learning about the various reptiles and lizards on display. Would definitely recommend a visit!
D.
Thanks, for nice experience...
C.
Loved the location so fortunate to have this park where the owners are very friendly and their knowledge is amazing children had a great time and we have enjoyed a great sunny morning everything so colorful.
Thank you we will be back defenetly ❤❤❤
S.
There needs to be a warning in the office that it is not suitable for those with mobility problems so a decision can be made whether or not to proceed. Very steep. Shame as it is an interesting project.
M.
Loved it. Spent a nice amount of time here and a peaceful walk around looking at all the reptiles. Was well worth it
P.
Awesome little reptile park!! My daughter and I had a great afternoon wandering around it. Also the views are stunning!! Highly recommend it!!
C.
*** 💚💛❤ Loved visiting Reptile Park as it was awesome for My youngest 2 girls & their mate to see the different reptiles 😀 Our favourite was HAROLD* the Capuchin Monkey who is cute, curious & friendly 😎👌 & the Star Tortoises were so small & cute barely the size of My youngest daughter's hand 😀👌 💚💛❤ ***
W.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the size of this park and the wide variety of animals. Definitely worth a visit if you have a couple of hours free in the area.
