I visited the Silky Otter for the first time on Labour Day. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted and well looked after the entire time I was there. The interior felt contemporary and classy and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Can’t wait to go back again.

Clean and cosy theatre. Fully automated ticketing booth. Don’t mind to pay a small premium for their atmosphere, cosy adjustable seats, and one of the cleanest powder rooms I ever visited!

Love love love the tapas type menu (order before the movie and food delivered to your seat) and comfy seats. Not a sit around for two hours and watch a movie person, but definitely gonna do it here if anywhere. Staff are lovely. Would be great if they could come up with some type of system for reusable dishes and utensils. FUN AND YUM!

What an amazing Cinema, it's so amazing in there it makes Hoyts and Reading look extremely cheap. You get greated as you come in by a very friendly guy who makes sure everything is correct, he tells you where to go and will help with anything you need. Free endless popcorn and Mondays as well. They have popcorn, drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), a big range of both hit and cold foods that they'll bring to your seat. The seats are all very comfortable recliners, the screen is a great size and the sound was perfect. Well worth it will be back many more times

Such a cool modern theatre & lovely staff too!!! You can enjoy comfy recliner seats and really delicious meals. They do $15 tickets with bottomless popcorn on Mon - Wed too! 🍿 ⭐ Highly recommend the jalapeno poppers

Great place to watch a movie the stuff are very nice & helpful & bring you food to your seat. The seat's recline & are very comfy

Excellent experience at the Silky Otter. Very nice looking theater. The cinemas are smaller than usual which can be a good thing. The screens are very clear and the sound is crystal clear. The seats are comfortable electric reclining and have a nice swivel tray for food and snacks. I didn't get any food this time but next time I will get something from their extensive menu, it all looks very nice. The staff are extremely helpful, polite and friendly. The whole place is very clean and tidy. There are easy to navigate self serve ticket booths at the entrance. I will definitely be going back there for all my movie visits from now on. Five stars somehow doesn't seem enough. Well done Silky Otter and your great team. :-)

Amazing experience, ordered food to our recliner seats it was superb. Excellent, clean, friendly staff. Perfect for when you don't want to have to go to a mall to see a movie. Parking good, lots of eating places in the area too.

I took my daughter here for the first time today and was impressed. They have self service kiosk to order your tickets and any food/drinks you want which is very cool. We were a bit late but the lady on the desk was incredibly helpful, sorted us tickets and food and took us to the movie theatre and seated us. The seats are leather and have leg recliners which was amazing. It was super clean, tidy, and welcoming. When we left the staff took the time to ask my daughter how she liked the movie and if we enjoyed it. Amazing service, keep it up. We will be back! 🙂

Super unique setting, great friendly staff and a really awesome audio/visual experience. Seats are a bit stiff and uncomfortable after watching a movie for 2 hours but it's still my favorite cinema in Christchurch! Saw James Bond and Spiderman recently and we're both fantastic experiences! Highly recommend 😊

First time at the Silky Otter last night for I love Mondays. Great value $15 tickets with bottomless popcorn. Really nice boutique cinema with comfortable recliner seating and excellent service right from walking through the door. We really are spoilt in Christchurch for cinema options.

It's a beautiful set-up, very comfy seats and not just the same old boring Popcorn we are used to, but decent meals(there is Popcorn too). It's a very boutique theatre without the boutique price tag. Aluminium drink cups instead of paper and little lights to help light up your meal, recliner seats and painfully clean. It felt like a 5star hotel to be honest...Cant see myself in any other cinema if I have the choice.

This is by far the best cinema experience you can get in Christchurch. Beautiful decor, state of the art technology, big reclining seats in the cinema, wide range of food (including hot food that can be delivered to your seat), and great friendly service. We are lucky to have a cinema like this in Christchurch!

A handy local cinema . Plenty of attached parking. Food and beverage supplied to your seat was up to scratch. The theater seats are big and super comfy . The picture and sound quality ensure a great movie going experience

Cinema was really nice. Sadly, they forgot our food order which meant someone had to try and judge a not-so-pivotal moment to rush out to see what went wrong. Quite disappointing considering the food and it's delivery to your seat is meant to be a point of difference. Oh well, we still mostly enjoyed our experience but, unfortunately, can't give a better rating.

Great cinema experience! Friendly staff greet you and show you how to order food and drinks from the touch screen displays. Easiest thing is to scan your ticket so that any food or drinks are brought to your seats before the film starts. We were shown to our seats by an attendant instead of what all other cinemas do and point you towards a door. The seats are very comfortable, recline and have adjustable headrest. Also a usb charge point in each seat. There’s a nice cinema 5 mins walk from my home and I drive 25 mins across the city to enjoy seeing movies here. Hot food available Ice cream and desserts are available Cold drinks and alcoholic also served. Recliner leather seats. Disabled friendly access. Male, female and Disabled toilets with availability lights displayed outside. Adult, child and student ticket prices. Credit and debit cards accepted. Loved this place. Loves being able to order food! Would have been nice to reorder drinks inside theatre. Got a bit too hot for our whole party at the end. Would suggest some healthier dinner options.

Very impressed with our first visit to this cinema. Lovely atmosphere with a clean, modern decor. Loved the large touch screens so you could see everything on offer. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The reclining chairs were so comfy. We will definitely be back again. The best cinema in Christchurch.

Lovely theatre and really great staff. But the food is average and really expensive for what it is. We got the fried chicken and it was crazy salty. I was also wondering whether you guys recycle, or compost all of your food containers? Because why put them in compostable packaging if they just go to land fill?

I saw a movie there last week. The theatre is amazing. The food and drinks were great. OMG the toilet had little white cloth towels to dry your hands. I have never seen that before. I felt like I was in a fancy hotel.

I don't understand why the workers serving are so useless. You order the food from the screen according to your seat number, but they don't deliver it to your seat. It gets passed up your row, each person in the row looking at it, breathing on it and checking if it's their order , and if you're lucky, you might receive your order intact, with God knows how many germs on it. If I ever return, which is unlikely, I won't be ordering food. However the seats were very comfortable

After many months of anticipation, the new luxurious 8 cinema theatre, Silky Otter, opened in Wigram a few weeks ago. 📽️ From the epic, high-tech fit-out to the VIP service and tasty eats delivered directly to your seat, this is an ideal spot for a fun night out - whether it’s date night or an experience with the family. I highly recommend the cauliflower fritters, they were so tasty! I look forward to trying more of the menu once they reopen post lockdown. Pro tip - take advantage of their "I love Mondays" deal with $15 tickets (usually $19) and bottomless popcorn

Had a great experience visiting for first time last weekend! Comfy recliner seats and great view of the movie due to the smaller seating numbers. Food was delicious and have to commend staff on their friendly service, engaging with all customers as they walked through the door to help out with ordering meals etc really set the tone for a seamless & enjoyable experience. Will be back!

Silky Otter Cinema has a young and active vibe to it. This is a great place to catch up with friends and enjoy movies a large variety of food options available. Sound quality and setting arrangement are to the same standard as Hoyts-x cinemas. Eg adjustable chairs with a vinyl finish. Pro-tip. Book sets on the opposite side to the entrance, So you don't have people walking in front of you with food orders. One aspect I would like to be changed is the lighting facing the chairs were bit bright. I would personally like them to be dimmed a bit more like at Hoyts venues.

First time visit to the Silky Otter to watch Top Gun. The theater catered for a smaller group which is great. The loungers were outstanding. Sound quality was also outstanding. Will definitely be coming back to Silky Otter Cinema

We waited to go to Silky Otter as the tickets are a little more expensive however the service when entering was superb. I can’t say the same for the food purchased. We paid $19 for cheese platter what we received was six bits and I mean bits of cheese with 6 dry crackers no relish that looked to be thrown in a takeaway box. It was just awful. The seats and movie experience was great. If you want to do food a big improvement is needed especially for the prices being charged.

Brilliant. One of the best cinema experiences I have had for some time. Took my mum out to a movie and they bring food to your seats in bags with little strips for light. Loved it, great comfortable seating and very tasty food. Would recommend.

Spacious seating area, we could sit down with the legs reclined, and others could still walk past. Food was ok at best, I ordered the chicken, and it was dry and unseasonably, not even sachets of salt. We couldn't take our leftover food home in the paper bag (as they reuse them) we didn't finish our drinks and were not aloud to take the cups home either (we didn't realize they were hard plastic, and reuseable)

Awesome place, highly recommend!! Would appreciate a few more gluten free and/or dairy free options on the menu (eg Gluten free roll), including the dessert section which doesn't appear to have any. It would also be nice to see items which weren't all spiced, not everyone likes (or can have) chilli, chipotle, five spiced etc

First impressions was good, staff were happy to help us with the touch screens to sort out our tickets and food. The popcorn was good and also enjoyed their special Halloween dessert jar. The mocha coffees we ordered were below average, upon receiving them the temperature of our drinks were luke warm and pretty much cold within a few minutes. Theater was nice with reclining chairs but I found the room temperature to be a little too cold even with a jersey on. All in all a good cinema and I look forward to returning.

We went to a screening of Shang-chi last night to check out the new cinema and we were blown away! The styling of the bar area is gorgeous, the staff were incredibly helpful. The bathrooms were lovely. The way they have handled Level 2 social distancing is great. The theatre itself was awesome. Comfy adjustable chairs, great screen size for the size of the room, and the perfect temperature. Loved being able to enjoy a cocktail and dessert while watching the film. Also barely any advertising which was great! Will absolutely be back!

First time visiting this cinema. We were very impressed with the friendly staff, who all went out of their way to make sure we knew what to do, how to order food and drinks, as well as escorting us to our seats. Brilliant recliner seating, with plenty of leg room to relax, plus a small rotating table each for our snacks. The toilets were individual, well appointed, and each had a good supply of fabric hand towels!! Nice touch. We have decided that this is now our "go to" cinema for the foreseeable future. Well done all involved 👍👍

Pleasant cinema experience. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable adjustable seats and food delivered to your seat. There isn't any social distancing in the seating. Costs a bit more than other cinemas but worth the extra $$$

Movies and seats were good but the popcorn was burnt and half the popcorn was just kernels and barley any popcorn but everything else was great we got a refill still mostly burnt 😢😢

I don't think I'd ever go back to Hoyts or any other cinemas after visiting Silky Otters the other day, everything right from the start was really cool vibe. Staff are super friendly, they have touch screens you can order your food from there, you can also book your ticket online. I really like how it's very clean and social distancing is taken seriously with a seating blocked out from other venue visitors. They bring the food to you as well, I had popcorn and coffee came to us, I plan to try the food next movie. Thank you so much for making it nice experience, staff interaction felt very hospitable rather than just go see a movie and leave. 100%

Been there a few times and it's usually a great experience with 5 star customer service. This review is specifically for last night, wheb we watched the new Spider-Man movie. The theatre was packed at 12am and we had to wait way too long to get our bag of lollies by the counter. They said we would get our hot food brought in, which also took a pretty long time. We decided to try the truffle and parmesan gourmet popcorn, but the box wasn't full all the way and the popcorn had no flavor at all. I really regretted our purchase and will be getting the cheaper option next time, which tastes the same.

Best cinemas in Christchurch by far. I was really impressed by the well thought out layout, design and detail. Very classy. Thanks too for offering popcorn at the candy bar. It's a crowd pleaser and always a disappointment when the other boutique cinemas don't offer it. I'll be back.

Felt like a VIP coming in as a first-time confused guest. The staff made it clear on what to do and how to proceed even with covid restrictions. Truly a cosy experience. If you order a bigger meal they deliver it to you too!

Enjoyed Matrix and some nice food. Will remember for future that our desserts were given to us with our drinks to go in at start. Prefer them later after our savoury food 😀

Second visit to Silky Otter Wigram. Both visits the service was great. Online booking system easy to use. Also love the ordering system for food and you can just pick it up at the bar. Great comfortable recliner seats. Lots of room.

The Silky Otter experience was absolutely fantastic! The theaters and seats were very high quality, the service was top notch (personal ushers to your seats), and you can even get food delivered to you while you are watching. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would definitely come here again. Even if the prices are higher than hoyts, it was much more enjoyable. Definitely a local business I'm willing to support!

This is a cinema for those who love going to the cinema. From entering the foyer you are treated like a v.i.p, you can order food and beverages that aren't overpriced. Beer is served in glasses, not plastic cups. Seats are spacious and comfortable with reclining chairs. Parking is free, unlike hoyts in town. We also went here for the opening night of 007, staff were dressed up in dresses and tuxedos, we were served martinis and had a great night.

Excellent upmarket cinema, with 8 cinemas, all reasonable small (~40 seats) with recliners, food delivered to your seat (if pre-ordered) and excellent sound and video quality. Staff were very welcoming (we went day 2 of opening). I can see some delays occurring around the food area as things get busier, as there seems to be only one point to order and pay - we were behind one couple for several minutes - not an issue at all, but when busier this may result in long delays, However we did not experience that and were very happy with the whole experience.

Easily the best cinema in town. A great experience, including the luxurious hand towels in the bathrooms.

My husband and I enjoy movie going and were excited to try the new Silky Otter Cinema in Wigram, Christchurch. A couple of things to note is that the staff (although lovely) we untrained and had trouble with the order screens when we asked for help - we know this will come right in time. The food options were plenty and tasted great. The only thing that will stop us from going to the theatre again is the height of the seats...if someone sits in front of you they will cut off some of the screen, something which will annoy the heck out of us. It was ok for us on this occasion as it was not busy and we could have shifted if needed.

Free parking. Every seat is a luxurious recliner. You can adjust the legs and the neck. The touchscreen ordering interface is a little tricky but staff are always on hand to help out. You can order your food to come to your seats, and even hot drinks if you ask nicely. Plan to be in your seat within 10 minutes of the movie starting.

Absolutely the best cinema. I loved the luxury. Seats are fabulous. Food was delicious. Screen was great. Staff were helpful and very pleasant. I will most certainly be going back again soon.

The auditorium was clean, well layed out, the seats worked (did not at Hoyts lux), and so incredibly well priced considering there are no commercial ads. Even the website was brilliant. The film, customer service & luxury seating was fabulous. However, food & drinks being served during the screening was really annoying, with staff having to walk in front of the screen with lights on the food trays, then those with the food turning the lights on & off. The person seated next to me crunching & munching away on his food was extremely annoying. With this in mind, I don't feel this is appropriate to enjoying the screening of the film that we payed to see. It would also be great to have an audience screen shown prior to the movie starting, asking the audience to turn off their phones & not to open them during the screening, or something similar as this is also very annoying. Great film, but the enjoyment was ruined. will not return.

This new theatre in Wigram, Christchurch is cool and very comfortable. Unfortunately if you don't get to finish your drink before the movie finishes, you have to leave it behind, as it is in their container. Update. Well done silky Otter Cinema getting back to me. I was advised the staff at the kiosk, will transfer my drink to a take home cup. 👏

Well 5 plus stars for me. I booked online and managed to screw it up. Called yesterday spoke to a young man who absolutely went the extra mile. Changed my bookings there and then no charges just outstanding service. Can't see me darkening the doors of the other theaters anytime soon. Thank you again

Awesome cinemas and a great atmosphere (recommend Lake Hayes Pinot Gris). Only thing is the food is expensive for the portion size, $10 for chips and its portion looksed like it was worth $6. Otherwise it was a lovely place and will go back but pass on the food.

My first experience at Silky Otter this afternoon watching Shang-Chi. I have to say I was very happy with my experience. The reclining seats are better than Hoyts Northlands as the Silky Otter seats go full horizontal recline compared to half way reclining at Northlands. Silky Otter will definitely be my go to cinema from now onwards. It also helps that I only live 3 minutes walk from the Wigram branch :)

I don’t even know where to start...... Fantastic place, love the luxurious vibe alongside with tremendous service. I’ve been a constant Hoyts guest and just had to put it out there that Silky Otter just ranked over Hoyts in my opinion. An absolute “must go”, easily 5 out of 5.

Modern boutique cinema complete with lazy boy large seats that are very comfortable. Meals and drinks available,lovely friendly staff,my favorite cinema by far.

Brilliant new complex. Reclining armchairs with adjustable tables and headrests - very comfortable.

Beautiful boutique cinema in Wigram with lush leather reclining seats and individual tray tables to order meals / snacks for the movies. Like Lux at Hoyts, but not just for couples 😅

Very good. Seats very adjustable but I do find I feel uncomfortable in them during a 2 hour or more movie vs Hoyts premium seats. Food looks good and priced ok though I haven't tried it. Don't like having to queue for a toilet considering how few seats are in a Cinema there. I find that odd. Still recommended if your in the area. Just be aware of the above.

Good for movie 🍿🍿

Great parking, very comfortable recliners, plenty of leg room and space. Great not having to go to a mall to go to the movies. Cosy cinema with not too many seats which I like. Only issue I had was the unisex toilets, I'd prefer a female toilet as there was pee on the seat so I had to squat over it.
