A lovely garden to visit on the hill above the main street of Port Chalmers. An old stone quarry has been transformed into a beautiful large Rhododendron Dell with paths, seats and tables and a high lookout for views over the ain street and Harbour.

Came here during fall, had some nice autumn colours too. Would expect it to be more pretty during spring as rhododendrons would flower then. Has a good view of the port from the viewing point.

Nice secluded spot, drive up the road to a cemetery with amazing views also...

A unique public garden area in a volcanic stone quarry with excellent views and nice seating areas. We wish the plants were labeled and the Lions' predilection for using it as a memorial for their deceased members is a little off-putting, but it is still worth a look. Look out for wasp nests, and be careful at night- we have noticed a few dodgy lurkers while walking pm.

Great nature trails, penguins, etc. Ride the 8 wheel ATV's. You might get muddy

I love the Dell. The Lions Club do a wonderful job planting and maintaining it. Great for kids to run around the paths. Great view up on their viewing platform. They have turned an old quarrie into a Beautiful garden.

Beautiful place and a nice easy walk from port. Word of advice if you arrive in port chalmers on a cruise ship stroll into town get a coffee and then head up here to look at flowers. There is also a nice lookout point with some historical information about the port. Entrance to the Dell is free and in the end you will spend a better day than if you take the bus to Dunedin.

We had a great first week at the holiday programme. We went on two trips to Quarantine Island. We caught the Sootychaser ferry across to the island which the children loved. There we were greeted by Dries and his family. They shared the history of the island and took us on a tour past their tunnel cave and through their native bush and past their plantings. We visited the cemetery, the restored accommodated as well as looked at the photos and artefacts. I would highly recommend this tour, walk and the ferry ride was a highlight as well. We have been working on our two new gardens. One a dinosaur garden with a volcano and the other a fairy and knome garden with miniature houses, knomes and fairies so that the children can interact with their outside environment. We painted rock houses, creatures and houses. We made clay knome's and dinosaurs. We went to Lady Thorn Dell today for a picnic and play. The children enjoyed playing hide and go seek. With two cruise ships in Port there were many tourists around and activity down at the Port which we could see and hear. Following this we had a relaxing swim in the Port Chalmers pool. All in all a very active first week with variety and fun for everyone. Photos will be up soon.
