K.I decided to get back to going to the Cinema again on a regular basis.Try to fight the covid blues I reckon. Nothing like a great movie on a big screen. Comfortable seats and great service. Love that I can accumulate points on my gold card for savings in the future.
W.Good customer service and nice clean toilet! This cinema have the nicest sound system in nz ! Even Auckland's cinemas' sound system can't complete and not as good as this one! I will recommend this Focal Point Cinema to my relatives and friends!
B.Great experience, only let down was the increase in prices, swear it used to be around 12 for an adult now it’s 18, another thing increased were their already expensive snacks/drink, about 8 dollars for a bag of skittles. Will have to go to reading Cinemas in Napier from now on.
M.Super clean, well staffed, polite staff, staff made excellent coffee & hot chocolate, and popcorn was fresh. As for the movie, great screen size, great audio. Will be back for sure.
A.It's really good screen with good sounds system, it was a nice experience but they really need to provide Air Conditioning (AC), during summer people need it most.

The building and facilities are lovely and attractive. During happier times there is a very good little bistro there too. Prices fair and loyalty card offered. I received a complementary ticket on my birthday which was actually incredibly well timed, being flat broke at the time. Awesome movie, go see. Beautiful and engaging venue, with the art deco features preserved and the art deco style reflected throughout. Go see any movie and it will be a good experience of the Focal Point, even if the movie's a dud. On the day of my visit, I was a little disappointed in the staff on this occasion. Other times have been better. I walk with a cane and had arrived just as the opening credits were rolling, my party was already there. Slight difficulty with birthday seat, lady staff member baffled and initially not having a bar of it. Male staff member appeared and put things right. I asked for a glass of wine to take in, again female staff seemed totally lost at sea and blind to my difficulty walking with my cane. Male staff took over and furnished wine.
Could carry the can and glass and ticked and brochures that they gave me. Headed to Auditorium- pitch black! I indicated I needed a little help in a person with tech to show me to seat. Didn't happen. I had to use phone torch to get to seats right at the back up on high.clumping along with peg leg, tripping on unilluminated obstacles, dropped phone twice and was a general nuisance to all. No help to even hold by handbag. Nothing. Got seats awesome movie will go again but be a.bit more assertive if the staff are as dopey as this pair turned out to be. Who knows, maybe they relief staff and just a bit out of depth. I say again though

A.What a wonderful evening, watched a great movie while enjoying a Panhead APA and some of the best southern fried chicken I have ever tasted.
I.Was a 4 star review until another patron crossed my path holding a recently purchased Bowl of Nuts that appeared to be delicately seasoned with a artisanal blend of spices.
D.The only cinema in hastings. Pretty cosy. Wide selection of movies. Good selection of snacks. Tickets affordable.

Just a friendly suggestion to put some recycling bins or points of collection inside and outside the cinema rooms. I saw many of us taking the rubbish out and there was just a rubbish bin by the stairs, where everything got mixed (glass bottles, plastic bottles, etc).

P.Has new sound system which is excellent for immersive experience. Cinema was very clean, staff friendly and Covid protocols observed well. Some movies just have to be seen on the big screen!

L.Went out for a wonderful date with my partner here. We ate in the restaurant before our movie and the food was delicious (A good hunk of pork belly is much appreciated.) Our server Drew was lovely and polite even though he was about to leave he kept his energy up the whole time which made the whole experience much more enjoyable. Have gone to places where there is no energy and this was a stark contrast to those places and experiences in the best way possible.
We both enjoyed the movie, fantastic sound system, though there were some younger boys behind us with little regard for where they put their feet. However this is not a jab at the establishment just need to move over a seat next time.
All in all I only have one complaint. I am a member of the loyalty club and was very disappointed to find that points accumulated on the card were not called focal points. A terrible oversight though one that I'm sure can be rectified.
Thank you for a wonderful night out and I hope more people get to enjoy the wonderful experience that we did at the hands of our server and other staff.
B.Partner and I tried dinner here. She ordered nacho and i had the pork belly. Well safe to say both meals were very nice. We dined on a tuesday and it was empty which was nice for a change. Great way to enjoy a inexpensive meal before a movie. Would happily eat here again.

L.We went for the first time with all our family. It was a really nice setting. The cinema itself was cool as you could take your ordered food in and sit and watch the movie. The seats were the most comfy seats I have ever sat in and really clean. Only thing I would recommend is never to sit in the walk way areas as it can get busy. The whole place was tastefully done. I am definately going back. The food was lovely.
M.They turned on the lights when the credits started, so I watched the mid- and post-credit scenes washed out and yellowed. That was disappointing.
This cinema has potential though. It looks pretty new, and the sound system is excellent. It was just a bit loud for my visit. The seats would be nice except that instead of cup holders, there are cup... platforms? They're not comfortable on the knees, and I tried different sitting positions throughout the movie.
The theater was empty, so I set my cup on the platform of the next seat over, so I wouldn't have to worry about knocking it over while just enjoying the movie. I can't imagine this in a crowded theater. Maybe they want people to bring in food from the cafe? I wouldn't even be comfortable putting a box of popcorn on these platforms though.

J.Pleasant staff, great range of drinks, good seating, and that's just the waiting area! 24/12/19 Snacks from ticket counter suspected cause of indigestion later. Sausage roll still cold on one side, Xmas mince pie pastry tough. Theatre sound system scarily good.
T.I would give 5 for food, taste and presentation, but maybe a 1 for staff who seem to make things difficult. There was a special price for meals in May. I arrived bout 5.30 with only 2 tables in use. I was told the deal was on only if I had a phoned the booking. I offered to ring there and then. Server had to go check with manager. Come on, use some common sense people. Also had issues the time before with staff when trying to pay for meal. Just painful in so many ways.
c.The cafe has an interesting menu that changes with options for those with food issues. Long opening hours. Friendly staff. The out catering is great too. The movie theatres are clean and new. The movies rotate regularly. All theatres have vibrating seats
A.Great service. Fast meals and decent sized too. Movie theaters are comfy and you can choose your seats.
C.Polite staff. Really liked that they have the option of your food being delivered into the cinema to you. Seats are comfy and the audio in the theater is great. Will definitely go back.

E.My first visit to Focal Point since it changed years ago from Reading cinemas.
Firstly I'd like to say I ordered my movie tickets online and was a bit disappointed that there was no scanner to print my tickets and skip the queue....
Instead we still had to line up like everyone else just to print off the tickets. Doesn't streamline the process...
On a good note, the staff are very friendly and courteous.
But the second bad point came while watching our movie, the bass and sound of the movie was so fantastic and intense....... that the arm rest where you place your drink (and or food, *there's no cup holders) vibrated so much that my partners drink fell off and onto the ground and her shoes....
We were only 30mins into the movie and that drink was pretty full.
My biggest suggestion would be to get rid of the wooden drink rests and install a normal cup holder for movie goers.
I'm sure we will be back in future but for now perhaps we will keep travelling to napier cinemas instead.
J.Quaint older theatre. Good facilities, screens and layout. Enjoyed the Bass rumblers during the movie so you can feel the bass in the movie.

1.A modern cinema that is reasonably clean. Staff felt disinterested and lacking in engagement, but that seems typical of many of the 20 somethings I often meet in the service industry. It's not that they are ride or impolite, they just are lacking warm people skills that make me feel welcome. A fair dining area. Food and coffee OK and about average pricing for such places. Given that it's the only cinema in Hastings one doesn't have much choice for movie going unless one travels to Havelock North or Napier. The sound was quite good but there was only 1 staff member manning the ticket sales / snack bar. Not good enough. Lots of people queuing and waiting.

R.It was mine and my grandsons birthday yesterday and we came to watch Jumanji, we had a good time, we had all the treats, Popcorn, Ice cream and drinks. We enjoyed ourselves. Thankyou very much.
E.Went to see Lion King, movie was suppose to start at 1 but due to being school holidays and sold out sessions we had to wait a bit longer while they cleaned out the cinema. Could upgrade to more cinemas and maybe a timeout zone to play games and keep occupied instead of standing near toilet entry's to wait in line or sit on staircases etc..
a.Was understaffed, had to wait in line for a long time. Should have two staff focusing on ticket sales only and two staff doing the snacks and drinks side of things. Would speed the whole process up. Missed the first 5 minutes of the movie.

d.I have found this to be a place to relax and enjoy the the excellent food and wine with friends. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the seats are certainly comfortable when watching movies. Definitely worth checking out.

N.One and only movie theatre in Hastings. Screen and sound quality is average. Something they bring 3D shows too. They also have wide variety of snacks and food. I gave it 3 star because some movies are usually brought few days later (from the actual release dates in the other parts of the world). Overall, it is the only life savior for movie movie buffs like me in Hastings.

R.Great birthday party venue for my 9 year old twins. Booking online was easy and was able to take my own decorations and cakes. The staff are friendly and the menu is yummy, the sound system is just WOW and the chairs are comfy too. The feedback I got from most of those from our group of 10 was "best birthday party ever!" I highly recommend exaggerating the budget for this type of wonderful experience, it's totally worth it!
