Reviews of Sunrise Hut
U.Sunrise hut track is one of the most stunning and popular tracks in the Hawke’s bay. It’s one of well known spots for family and school trips for team building. Sunrise Hut is situated on the tops of the Ruahine Range
A.Great hut, plenty of bunks and a wood fire. Easy track up and a beautiful sunrise. Bring ear plugs as the strong wind makes is VERY noisy at night.
K.A beautiful track up. Expect a workout since the track is pretty much up the whole way. The climb is absolutely worth it. An amazing hut. Highly recommend walking the ridge that goes behind the hut to the Armstrong memorial and a further climb up to look back out over to the hut and the steep valley between.
R.A stunning hut with awesome views. Also worth heading up to the saddle NW of the hut for view to Mt Ruapehu. Small peak north of the hut gives great views also. It's a two hour walk up to the hut. Take a small detour to see triple-x hut at the bottom.
J.It takes 2-3hr hike from the carpark to get up to the hut. There was snow when I reach during end May and it was chilly. Great place to watch the sunrise. It is a good idea to hike up when there us daylight because the trail does not have many signs at the start, and it is easy to get lost. The way up is rather straightforward once you found the trailhead.
R.Beautiful place. You dnt get a proper view until your actually at the hut. Well worth the hike tho. Great hut

j.Hard to beat. Great hut, heaps of bunks, great hunting, and pretty hearty walk to get across to Top Maropea Hut but we’ll worth it. Highly recommend a visit there.
m.Good and easy track for the day! Unfortunately our plan couldn't meet the sunrise.
P.It is a good track but not as easy as it is advertised. It is a pretty strenuous uphill slog about 8.7kms. We did it in 2.5hrs. The return is nearly an hour shorter. The alpine plants and ferns are very pretty and scenery is lovely to photograph and you feel you are up in the clouds
C.Stunning place everyone should visit.
L.Fantastic. Requires decent fitness, especially in the heat of summer and carrying a pack for our 2 day stay. It really is up, up, up. One amazing dad managed to push his kid up in a stroller so it can't be that hard! Challenging but within reach for inexperienced hikers.
L.Lovely summer weekend tramp. I'd definitely do it again. Watching the sunrise was a plus! Be careful as it gets really windy. There's a track at the back of the hut that leads to another hut. Careful walking up there as the wind is ferocious. Still the views were amazing

B.Great spot when the NW gale not blowing and cloud down obstructing the view like it was this morning. Track up in good condition and we'll graded. But clean and tidy.
C.A steep walk which zig zags under the canopy of trees after which you emerge to the hut with panoramic views.Fresh tank water at the hut with bunks and toilets.Behind the hut is the saddle walk which takes about 30 mins one way.The wind can be very chilly and rough so bring wind breaker and beanie.At the end on clear day is views of Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe and memorial to a plane crash where the fate of pilot remains a mystery.
There are toilets at the car park but remember to bring toilet paper.
C.Great Hutt. Take candles and loo paper. The walk is predominantly under cover. Take clothes and food for changes in weather. Need a moderate level of fitness. Be sure to extend your walk to see Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe views up above Sunrise
H.My personal refuge away from the chaos of everyday life. Fresh air, amazing scenery and native bush, and often meet great like minded hikers along the way.
S.We sheltered from the wind and snow, had hot soup, and enjoyed social time. Nice of my friend to invite me on this Rotary trip. Loved it
r.Great hut and when there is a view it is totally worth the walk. Super popular so be sure to book and expect to be sharing
