Reviews of Papamoa Coastal Reserve
M.One of our absolute favorite beaches in New Zealand!!
We have spent about 12 weeks in this area in the last year, and have even considered buying a second home here!
The beach is long and wide with soft white sand. The dunes at the back of the beach are beautiful, and they can provide some protection on windy days.
It gets really wide at low tide and many locals head out to the waterline to dig shellfish (mostly Tuatua) for dinner.
The beach is never crowded, except near the campgrounds on weekends or holidays, so you will have plenty of space to pick your favorite spot to relax.
It is also our favorite place for long afternoon walks as the sun starts to go down.
There are many access points to the beach with short trails to walk across the dunes. You can park anywhere along Papamoa Beach Road for free, and use one of the many access trails to the beach. Usually, it’s about a 50 meter walk from the roadside parking, but a shorter and easier walk if you use one of the parking lots available.
Along Papamoa Beach road there are plenty of restaurants and stores, too.

M.A wonderful camping ground right on an amazing beach. On a good day, this place is not bettered. There is a new life saving centre being built for protected swimming.
R.We are so spoilt for great beaches on the east coast of the North Island, and this one is a treat. Soft white sand, clean and beautiful and stretching for miles.
S.Sunshine, sand and a great day for swimming. Not crowded like the Mount, plenty of space for all the family.- recommend taking a shade tent.
D.WOULD LOVE TO MOVE DOWN HERE ANY TIME! AS OUR DOG ENJOYS THE BEACH WITH A HAPPY SMILE, MAKES ME FEEL GOOD.

D.Simply brilliant place for peace, quiet and the natural coast vegetation is stunning mixed with the gorgeous sand and sea backdrop. It's paradise on earth.

A.Nice place. Well looked after, awesome swimming beach that's nice and safe for the young ones.
C.Nice place for a quick pitstop. There is a caravan that sells coffee and food. Not sure if they are here every day. The view is great and there is a public restroom. There is also a restaurant close by that opens around midday if you want to sit down and eat.
M.Nice beach, clean and soft sand. My girls love it here. Great for sand castles, kites, bpdyboarding and even just for strolling.
O.Great views and space for campers but would be even better with a toilet.
M.A beautiful stretch of beach, safe for swimming, relaxing and soaking in the view of Mt. Maunganui

E.Beautiful beach. Went for a walk early in the morning. The sand seemed a little icky in some parts but I didn't let that ruin the experience.

F.Lovely clean expanse of beach for strolling or taking a fast walk with dog. With the added bonus of seats to take in the views and a couple picnic tables for family picnic or just to sit and do a crossword or two.

R.Resort? Depends what your looking for. Confined to studio type 1 bedroom with bunks, single bed and queen in kitchenette/dining/lounge area that opens out to spectacular ocean views. Good for a quick escape and close to shopping.

S.Amazing beach, I always like to come and watch wawes. It is very peaceful place for me. In good weather you can see nice views of Mount Maunganui and Maketu.

C.This is a well maintained reserve.
That features freedom camping.
Allows dogs and provides disposal bags and rubbish bins for convenience.
There are also toilet facilities at the east end of the park.
c.Beautiful beach for the family but do bring an umbrella or an easy-up for shade as there is none.....such an awesome place and highly recommend 👌
P.Always love going to the beach even if it's having a bite to eat in the car on cool day 😉
P.Beautiful place to waste the time away
G.Always great for a morning strol especially when the weather is just right. Always amazing what you come across at times today We found two large shells but you also come across the odd seal or two at times as well. But what we find best of all is the cheeryness of the people we meet walking their dogs and their willingness to be friendly and talk about the world in general. We love living where we do and will keep walking the beach as long as we can.
