We arrived at the motorcamp, weather was so beautiful. Greeted by a lovely woman. There Was a playground nearby which was amazing for the kids as I had little ones aged 4, 6 and 11. It was a beautiful campground, and we thoroughly enjoyed our first True camping experience.
The only downside was the showers, I have a one year old and the showers were too hot to put him under so I had to splash him with water instead. I had also paid for a campsite but we had to share with our friends as someone had taken our campsite the day before we arrived. I guess if we were sharing a site we really should have only paid half.
Other than that, it was awesome and love that Lagoon was only 5 minutes walk :)

Great place to take the family for a camping holiday. Very close to the beach and reasonably good facilities (showers, kitchen, communal fridge, playground)
Only a couple of issues during our stay:
1) We paid for two powered sites so we could camp next to our friends but were only given one small site to share as the camp owners had given our site to another group before we arrived.
2) There were no family changing rooms which made it difficult to shower our 1 year old child at night. The male showers were way too hot for our baby so my partner showered our son in the ladies changing rooms. As I was not able to go into the ladies changing rooms we were reliant on a very kind lady to bring our son to me outside so I could get him changed. Not an ideal situation but we made it work.
3) Men's toilets always seemed to be blocked. The two men's urinals had very poor drainage and were often overflowing with urine. One of the toilets had too much toilet paper in the dispenser which caused it to jam so you couldn't use any toilet paper in that cubicle.
Another toilet was completely blocked on the first day but was fine the other two days we were there. It seems like the toilets were only cleaned once a day which wasn't enough considering how busy the campsite was.
Everything else was about our camping experience was great.
Z.
Fantastic location, about 10min walk to the beach. Great facilities, everything you need. Friendly staff. Very affordable too!
S.
wonderful camping ground; pets welcome, lots of mature trees for shade. within walking distance to all local eat facilities, lagoon and beach. swipe card access to toilets and showers. good facilities cleaning programme.
A.
Loved it ... rustic and friendly atmosphere... nice and tidy with good amenities and friendly and helpful staff...a stone's throw from beach, lagoon and Lion Rock, KiteKite Falls... would happily stay again
C.
Friendly staff, family environment with like minded tourists. People are respectful of each other's space and felt comfortable going to the beach leaving the tent behind unattended and bbq chairs and tables outside as everyone did the same.
Campsite is set up as a ring road, logical and each site has ample room to accomodate a very large camper van, gazebo with room to spare.
Not suited for drinking party campers with loud music.
Wifi available. 100MB / day free or $5 unlimited for 48 hrs. Cell phone coverage is good all round for Spark and Vodafone.
Kitchen facilities are generally clean. Only need to bring a tea towel as wash cloths, dish washing detergent was provided for. Had two microwaves and 4 hotplates, each with a large and small element.
Shower facilities are kept clean, ruined only by your neighbours if they don't clean up after themselves. Staff can only do so much as they are cleaned daily.
Surprised there was hot showers after 9pm at night.
Access tags required to gain entry in into camp past barrier arm, toilet facility and shower timer. Push to start / re-start showers.
No open fires allowed. BYO your own cookers or BBQ and the staff offer herbs grown on site or they leave a friendly note to help yourself to tomatoes if available.
If your gluten free and / or celiac they have plenty of option at the two store right next door and they sell tip top vegan ice cream at camp office.
Water tastes a bit funny but drinkable. Otherwise BYO water to last unless you want to pay $1 per litre of water from their cooler.
I'm summary a very good experience and the staff set a good and safe precedence. Plenty to do, sights to see and children friendly.
D.
Great spot to camp at for 40$ for 2 people a night. 22$ a person for campervan hookup. Showers/bathrooms nice. Short walk to Piha beach, lions rock and kitekite falls!
Sand is burning hot between 1240-5pm but once near the water it slacks off significantly and once in the water you forget about the heat Entirely!
J.
One of the best places we have been on our NZ roadtrip. A bit of a trek down winding roads but we'll worth it.
The staff are super friendly and helpful.
We stayed out of season so the price was slightly reduced and had longer shower coupons (9mins of hot water per day instead of 6). The camp ground was quiet due to time of the year so it was very peaceful and we had a choice of where to park.
The toilet and shower block was clean.
Piha beach was beautiful. You can swim or surf, just be careful of the uneven sand and strong currents. There is a cafe and shop across the road.
P.
It has a gorgeous beach and beautiful walks..The staff and locals are welcoming, friendly and just lovely people. Loved it.
A.
Unfortunately didn't get a photo of the campsite, but anything walking distance from this view is worth reviewing. We thought the campsite itself was lacking in privacy but the public kitchen and toilet facilities were clean and adequate. Would recommend if you are looking for location and not too bothered to be in an open field.
l.
Beautiful beach! The waves are great for body boarding or surfing. Need to reach early to get a parking spot near the beach though
F.
When I booked the campsite for a weekend for myself and my partner, I did not know that I would fall in love with the place and Piha. I was welcomed by the manager Fiona and her business partner like a member of their family. After my checkout, I had to wait hours before the shuttle bus back to Auckland and Fiona offered to keep my luggage while I went around for a walk. On my way back it started to rain heavily and Fiona welcome me in her home, offered me a warm cup of tea and kept me in great company. She shared great memories of the campground, she is a big supporters of Kiwi families who spend their holiday over there. Fiona explained that the campground prices are reasonable and affordable, because as she said 'Every Kiwi child deserves to go camping with their family and every family should be able to afford to go camping with their kids.' The casual meeting with Fiona and my stay in Piha's Domain Motor Camp might have been only a weekend long, however, the memory of it will always remain and I will go back there again as soon as possible. Highly recommended. A must do in the Kiwi countryside just around the corner of Auckland CBD.
L.
If you like basic, the place is yours. It can't compete with the holidays resorts like Taupo Holiday resort on Centennial Drive, but it has the old NZ charm. Close too the beach, amazing hospitality by the patron and everything is clean. If you travel with kids, the playground is amazing.
W.
Great accommodations. Kitchen and toilets is a bit far from each other cause this is a big site. You have to choose to park near kitchen or toilets or park far from both for privacy and silence reason.
Kitchen is big and will be closed at 10 pm and very clean after officers cleaning.
Toilets is big and will be vacuum at around 21pm so a bit noisy but they are very clean.
All toilets and showers user tokens system to enter and activate the warm shower.
Big playground for children i love it.
M.
Beautiful spot to stroll along the beach or have swim.
C.
Fantastic camping ground! Unfortunately we had 2 days full of rain, but we still enjoyed our time. The kitchen was very convenient and we met a lot of cool people there. I personally fell in love with the birds (and baby ducks) which are living on the camping ground. The staff was friendly and the toilets and showers clean. We would definitely recommend and we'll be coming back soon!
S.
Friendly staff and good grassy areas. Other positives are a proper cooling unit with plenty of space and a nice playground for the kids. My only negative (but apparently we were the only ones) was that the showers were burning hot and couldn't adjust it. My 2 yo, my partner and myself couldn't stand under the shower. Other than that, great camping in an awesome area!
B.
Lovely place to spend the day at the beach.
N.
Love camping here. Friendly capable staff. Close to the Bowling Club for great meals. I loved that the showers were just a bit warmer this year. Thanks for that. Very family friendly camp. Highly recommend.
C.
Lovely relaxed friendly camp. Reception lady really helpful. Kids (10 and 8) loved the playground - good for older and younger kids - and little skate area. Amazing location, love Piha. Right by the store (quite short hours) and cafe and bowling club for meals. Walked the tasman lookout and kitekite falls. Played tennis at the courts. Only negatives were no real facilities to hook up to water or easily fill aqua roll, guess they don't have much water so understandable. And no dumpstation in Piha. But will be back again.
S.
Wonderful friendly and welcoming staff. Clean and tidy kitchen, laundry and ablutions areas. Nicely laid out camp ground, neat and tidy grounds. We tented close to the play ground, this was crazy in hindsight with three teenage boys as excited little kids who get up early make a fair amount of nois. Next time we stay we will put the tent further away from the early risers. We loved how close we were to the beach and felt so safe the whole time we were there. Highly recommend to all age groups and travelers. We will definitely be back :-)
J.
Amazing place close to the beach. We extended our stay because you have nice day trip opportunities as well.
R.
I love this beach... check out the campground and stay for a night!!
K.
Beach can get super crowded during summer. Strong rips so be very careful in the water. This beach has claimed a lot of lives. Not very child friendly swimming.
F.
Family friendly, close to the beach. Clean and tidy ❤️
J.
Absolutely excellent site. Staff there are incredibly helpful and it is in a great location. Staff went out of their way to help us after our airline lost our baggage, sorting us out with discount cards for the local clothes shop. Stopped there twice on our trip over from the UK and both times it was superb. Great place to relax and listen to the birds and for children to play. The entire camping ground was spotless even the showers and toilets. Recommended booking reasonably in advance as it does get busy.
C.
Really good camp site, I had a sweet pitch for my tent under a tree. The communal kitchen was clean (before certain campers left a mess) toilet block was clean, good warm showers, not sure why it needs a push button and a card activated timer. The lady on reception was also super friendly and nice, helped me find a safe spot for my bike as I was traveling alone.
The beach is walking distance over a board walk too
M.
You should see the amazing Black-sand sparkles in the sunlight, Piha beach. Beautiful strong waves and scenery.
A.
Very warm and welcoming staff. Super cool surfer dude vibe. Quiet, comfortable and remote campground.
Water is at a premium in Piha, so be ready to take a brief (and cool) shower after visiting the famous (and somewhat risky) Piha Beach.
Go across the road to the Piha Store for batista coffee, or get a bite at the Piha Cafe.
I wish we could have stayed another day!
T.
Piha is a fabulous spot, and the camp ground handily placed. Sites not reserved so best to get there early to get best spot. I was surprised dogs are allowed, but most were well behaved.
N.
Excellent place to take the family. Facilities are okay for an older campground, but we are understanding that camping is not all about having luxuries. Great playground for the kids, and plenty of space to kick a ball around on the sports fields. Not to mention the beach nearby. There is a store next to the campground, and the RSA nearby serves some pretty darn good fish n chips. It is about a 5-10 min walk to the RSA, and there is plenty of space for eating. Went for the weekend and had a ball of a time. The paperwork is "to the point" of expected behaviours, but to be honest the comments are quite over the top. It gave a negative first impression, however once we were setup we only had fun. Overall very pleased to have camped there, and will definitely do it again.
j.
This is a beautiful place and the people who run it are amazing. They're kind and supportive and just generally lovely to talk to. They even let me bring my dog too which means I can have a holiday! The facilities are great and new too with an environmental lead which is also important to us. Thanks very much to you See you next time!
H.
Amazing facilities, great location, just a hop skip and a jump from the beautiful beach. Also, the owner is such a lovely lady, very helpful and welcoming. We felt very much at home here.
J.
Friendly and helpful staff, clean and tidy facilities, stunning location and family friendly. Truly can't say enough, it's just stunning!
E.
Such a neat little family friendly camp ground with lovely staff. Facilities were great and right next to a beautiful beach. Plenty of choices to eat within walking distance.
K.
A really nice campground which is near to the beach and just a short walk from Kitekite Falls, too. Many places are with trees for a shady place to sit. Really nice stuff, clean showers and toilets. Only the kitchen could have a better equipment.
Important: you have to do the shopping before because there is only the "Piha Store" for shopping and this is very expensive. Cold Drinks and ice cream you can buy at campground reception.
C.
One of the better camping grounds I have stayed at. Loved the quirky showers and the nice clean kitchen. Beach and forest walks close by and a few bars to wet the whistle after a big day with delicious food.
O.
Super lush. Clean friendly staff
M.
A nice place to stay for the night when you have been on the beach.
The toilets and showers are a bit basic but they do the job just fine. Very friendly and kind staff.
And they have unlimited free WiFi!
Go to the beach when sun is about to set. You will not regret that!
B.
So beautiful area and so much to see. Recommend to look beyond the nearest beach. This area have so much to offer.
A.
The Piha camping domain is absolutely incredible. The way it’s set up is super effective to be able to enjoy the most out of it. Nice and close to the beach and lion rock. Fiona and the staff here are incredibly friendly and willing to help out however they can. Fiona especially is one who deserves a medal on a daily basis. Genuine, hard working, honest and funny, she’s one of the good ones and she does a great job with the place. I’ve already booked to come back, that’s how much the experience was enjoyable! 💖
I.
Nice and clean camp ground, and kitchen area, highly recommended.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
They should add a few more bbqs, I would prefer wooden rather than electric.
*It could be a bit crowded during summer *
I'll be back!! Definitely.
P.
Had an awesome stay at Piha Domain Campsite. We came with just a tent and the owner set us up nicely. We could access a kitchen with microwave, stove, fridge and freezer (bring your own dishes/pots/pans). The bathroom anenities were also great- the water takes a while to turn hot but that is not a big issue. There are beautiful and friendly birds around the whole camp. The owners were so nice, provided us with a hillary trail map, and helped us find a ride back to auckland cbd the morning we left.
THANK YOU!!!
J.
As always a great stay - consistently friendly and ‘onto it’ staff. Clean and well managed facilities. Heaps of activities for all ages.
J.
Love this campground. Very nice couple managing it. Easy walk to the beach and waterfalls. Clean facilities. Has a coin-operated bbq. Will definitely be back next summer.
S.
Good installations. You have to keep pressing the shower button for the water to come out, other places have 5 minutes showers which I think are ok. I guess it's good to preserve water but it's not comfortable. Otherwise good :)
C.
Nice camping place, the beach is within a few minutes walking and the lady at the check in was very friendly! Definitely worth a stay
L.
Camped here for over a week. Good facilities, family orientated camp ground. Children need struck supervision on beach as very strong rips here
J.
Greeted my friends and I with excellent customer service and were very easy to get along with. Answered every question I asked and had great facilities. If you are wanting to have a nice camping experience, look no further.
J.
good and quiet place for rest time.
A.
Friendly and kind service. We’ve stayed for only one night on a powered site and loved how quiet it was. Ducks and pukekos all around.
T.
awesome park management. Couldn't do enough to look after us. Great location.
Didn't like the shower set up but understand needing to conserve water.
D.
Fantastic place to stay, very friendly and down to earth hosts. I love the surroundings and used to camp here as a child, now I am bringing my child to stay. Thank you so much for the memories.
R.
We loved it so much had the best weekend with family an friends even out puppy had the best time socializing with other nice doggies will be back asap
A.
Nice campsite with good amenities and wifi for purchase that is reasonably priced! Nice and close to beach and all other places in piha
A.
Nice next to beach
J.
A wonderful camp ground with the most amazing beach.
s.
amazing place to visit ...|!! mountains , camping area , sea view , hiking ...!! must go place specially if you go from scenic drive...!
S.
I can highly recommend this camp ground. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great (great sunsets, wonderful beach, great surf spot) and the amenities are very clean. It is half an hour away from Auckland, but you feel like in another world.
J.
Great facilities and service. Nice and close to the main beach with the convenient store located directly across the street.
M.
Two stars for the location, the facilities are outdated and compared to other campgrounds inconvenient! However, the owner are friendly.
-Tap water tast undrinkable
- wifi not unlimited and doesn't work properly
- shower buttons must be pressed regularly after a few seconds
M.
Awesome little campground at a outstanding beach! The premises are clean, the staff is super friendly and helpful and the views are not from this world! Its just 5 minutes walking to the beach, 30 minutes to the waterfall and its located right in the town centre! I recommend everyone who visits New Zealand to stay a couple nights at this awesome campground!
D.
Good budget camping ground .. very clean and helpful staff
M.
Great campground with lovely facilities. Cheap laundry and in a great location. Amazing price for what you get.
S.

R.
We love Piha, the sandflies love us !
s.
A must visit place. Clean bathrooms, lifeguards and gorgeous serf.
K.
Great spot, lovely family environment. Facilities clean. ... Laundry could do with new washing machine 😀😀
L.
Great location - right by the sea and the lion! The kitchen was small but great (bring your own dishes), there was hot water in the shower (just keep pushing the button every 15 s to turn it back on), and free choice of your camping spot. We enjoyed our night there in a campercar :) Also, there's groceries just accross the street that close up pretty early though.
Z.
Great location, really close to Piha Beach and the Lion Rock, but we were a bit disappointed by the facilities which were not that great neither clean for the price..
B.
I’ve had a great time staying here. The owners are very friendly and I appreciated that they’re there for check-ins until 8:30pm - I’ve often experienced early reception closure, which means you have to book in and arrange access relatively early in the day and I like being spontaneous.
Facilities were great, I loved the walk-in fridge! And there is a chest freezer, which is a real treasure when you don’t have a fridge in your camper!
The kitchen is nice and there is a good atmosphere.
For families there’s a nice kids playground near the kitchen and I don’t have to mention the incredible beautiful location!
The layout of the camp ground is gorgeous with a lovely tree-lined walking path from the grassy area to the kitchen.
The foot-wash buckets outside the shower blocks are great, they prevent sandy showers and keep it cleaner than what I’ve seen it anywhere else near the beach!
I will definitely be back!
M.
Great location great hot showers if you press the button twice you can get a five minute shower Camp owner very friendly and approachable Also excellent laundry and kitchen facilities
N.
Great location for a picnic close to the beach.
S.
Awesome mostly however clean didn't come that night and bathrooms were shocking next morning.
A.
Must visit surfing sea beach. Good facilities overall.
D.
A place I've loved for 40 years. Black sand, sun, surf, unique scenery, and a spiritual sense of place for the soul
T.
The park and playground area here is a great place to bring kids.
B.
one of the best , but please be careful do not swim at the beach if there is no guard . Piha is a must for surfing and wild west coast experience
J.
Just a wonderful place to spend a day
M.
Good family friendly camping five minutes from beach. Clean, modern facilities and a great playground.
A.

A.
Loved. Really close to the beach
B.
Beautiful view of the coast and surrounding landscape
C.
Fiona was extremely nice and inviting! The bathroom and showers were beyond clean with fresh flowers as an added nice touch. The campground was clean and quiet. I can’t thank you enough Fiona for hosting us! You made my birthday weekend so amazing! We will be back!

V.
Cool camping right in centre of Piha, nice views, short walking distance to cafe and the beach
F.
Great little campground with clean modern bathroom facilities. The kitchen is a little old but very clean & well laid out with indoor & outdoor eating areas as well as a bbq area. Tennis courts, kids play ground & lots of grass to play games on. Generous size sites with trees for shade. We spent the weekend doing some of the wonderful walks close by & used the campground as our base! Would definitely stay again. Thank you to Fiona & her team of helpers!!
A.
One of the most beautiful beaches!
S.
Great landscape, very good steak to buy at the office, good facilities only the hot water needs some time. Very friendly owners.
p.
the best camp ground and location on the West Coast about 1 hours drive from downtown Auckland highly recommended , a nice sea side town .[PARK-SLEEP]
K.
Love Piha . Another home and great for kids. The Bowling club is Awesome 👌 👏
B.
Great campground with clean facilities
a.
The black sand beaches here are so different than the white sand we are used to back home. A truly beautiful spot, and worth the drive from Auckland.
S.
A beautiful area right near the Piha beach, reasonably priced camp grounds but a few negatives with the facilities - 1. no soap to wash hands 2. a few hand towels lying around to dry hands with but by the end of the day they were all damp and gross looking, 3. showers timed for three minutes but not only do you have to swipe your card to start them, but you also have to keep pressing a button that stops water flow every 30 seconds or so. 4. Hardly any bins around.
N.
Wonderful stay when arriving or leavin' NZ - one hrs scenic drive to the airport - one of the spots when filming "the piano" . . .
L.
Very welcoming to Hillary Trail hikers. Great camp grounds. Hot shower thoroughly appreciated!
D.

Place of fabulous beauty
C.
Just anotha great part of Piha!!
B.
Piha is a great place to hang out, the beach is beautiful, and a short drive from Piha town centre is the Kite Kite Falls. A lovely two tier water fall. Its an easy walk through NZ native forest. The trail are clearly marked. The only downside is that it can be very crowded on public holidays due to its easy access. At the bottom of the water fall is a medium size pool which you can go for a swim. There are also plenty of hiking trails near and around Piha.
A.

(Translated) One of our fondest memories from our vacation in New Zealand. We liked the place so much that we stayed a few nights longer than planned. The beach is original, the sunsets magnificent and the campsite very pleasant.
You just have to think about stocking up on the race before coming, the site being isolated.

(Translated) Surely one of the best New Zealand campsites we have done! The beach is right in front with the lion rock, the staff are extremely friendly and very accommodating on departure times! Toilets and showers are very well maintained with small towels and soap available for hand washing.
Laundry room and large clothesline.
I recommend this place 100%!
