Reviews of Te Waihou Walkway
L.
Has a very big car park area has toilet and tables, the walk along the river is on a well maintained track goes in and out of cover, the water is beautiful crystal clear spring water and very cold, there is a shallow area of water to swim in after your walk near the bridge. There is a toilet 1km into the walk, there are also 2 sets of steps very easy though. There is another toilet not long before you get to the other end of the walk (Blue Springs Parking area)
B.
Great walk, about 4.5 kms one way. Following along the Blue Springs water flow. Stunning colours in the water especially with the water being crystal clear and very cold. Some beautiful native bush and bird life. Well worth the walk. Toilets area posted along the walk
R.
Beautiful spot we went to the walkway end which is off the main road. Plenty of parking and the walkway to spring is 800 metres. But. A couple kilometres from the other end. Would class the walk as easy.
T.
This is an unbelievable place to visit. Nature in all its peaceful glory, and water so fresh, we filled our bottles straight from the flowing spring!
G.
Heard it was great and the Waihou Blue Springs river walk is simply stunning. An easy 800m meander with views along the way.
T.
Lovely walk, about an hour walk there and back. Amazing to do on summers day with all the birds and bees.
S.
A very stunning pretty long nice walk. It's all rather level too so if your not super fit or are getting there it's a good track. It can get a little muddy in places and some times kinda busy but it's well worth the walk
d.
Lovely walk that leads to Blue Springs. Should take most people between 1 and 2 hours of nice easy walking along a crystal clear river. The river is nice all the way along but the lovely photos with the clear blue water and green weeds are more towards the Blue Spring end. Apparently dogs are not allowed on this stretch.
D.
This trail was absolutely beautiful, clean, flat and well marked. We walked a total distance of a bit over 5 miles out and back. It offers such stunning views of the springs. Shade areas throughout. Not much difficulty. Its well maintained. We loved the opportunity to walk through someone's private land. This was so peaceful especially when we get away from the main road. It was relatively trafficked but still possible to keep your distance and we had a mask just in case we couldn't keep away. Our roundtrip was around 3 hours, we like to stop and soak up nature, often. Definitely recommend this hike.
A.
Lovely day out 1hr30 to walk to the main point wasn't too busy, plenty of bird life and great views of natures best. Will definitely be back
C.
A beautiful spot! Walk was easy and took 2 hours return from the Te Waihou car park. Go for it! Stunning views.
T.
Its a very beautiful walkway, three hours return in total. Or you dont need to finish the whole return walk if run out of time.
Bur the sign ' HIGH THEFT AREA' is pretty scary. Be aware.
K.
We took the longer trail - which in my opinion had better views of the blue springs - as oppose to the one closer to the car park.
Unfortunately you can no longer swim here.
S.
We had visited Hobbiton, and then after lunch we headed to the Te Waihou Walkway. It was a recommended location in the Hobbit Locations book I bought recently. It was never used, but the location was suggested as a river that could have appeared in the film. I walked the whole length of the walk (8km). The river was fastish flowing in some areas slow elsewhere. It featured some lovely colours of green and blue. Let’s hope the pictures do the colours justice. R sat & spotted parakeets & kingfishers while I did the last half.
There is parking at either end, so if you get the cars organised you can walk one way.
A.
Awesome place to go as a family for a walk, run or just enjoy the view, beautiful scenery.
C.
A beautiful walk but could do with better signage and parking (maybe even a Cafe) at the east end.
M.
We had a wonderful family outing here with friends. The walk was just the right length for the kids and the spring is a lovely attraction and picnic spot at the end.
Highly recommended.
L.
Nice relaxing walk, Some steep bits but overall a very easy walk. Highly recommended!
S.
The walking track isn't pram friendly in places but it's a nice walk the stream/springs is awesome
J.
Amazingly beautiful with crystal clear water. And the path is very well maintained.
T.
Nice easy walk, beautiful, well maintained paths.
N.
Really enjoyed this walk. Good track with lots of picnic and toilets on the way. We came in from Smiths Road end. The walk to the Blue Spring is actually only about 3 km one way. The sign talks about 4.7km but I think that must be to Lesley Road car park.
R.
The place is very unique for its crystal clear aquifers and springs.
The colour of the water is almost transparent and becomes even more enchanting with the variation in the weather and varying natural light.
The walk way to the springs is a short one and doesn't require high fitness levels.
The stream along the walkway makes for a very scenic experience.
The Te Waihou walkway starts from Leslie road and ends at Whites road.
Moderate fitness is required to complete some sections of the otherwise easy walkway.
The Waihou river along side the walk way is a picturesque sight and enjoyable.
The rapids make for a nice sight and a thrilling experience in the otherwise calm and scenic walkway.
The either ends of the walk way are easily accessible by road and have decent number of car parking spaces.
Although it can get really busy on weekends and holidays.
Very highly recommended.
D.

Beautiful. 3 hour walk in total...going and coming back
E.
It has a beautiful clean spring- fed stream running beside the walkway which could be a nice swimming spot on a hot day. A good place for a stop on your drive past as well as the pretty walkway through farmland alongside the stream. Very noisy overnight though.
J.
Great walk. Will need to return to reach the blue springs due to maintenance. Beautiful weather and scenery.

'Twas lovely to visit our ol' swimming hole that has apparently become renown especially throughout the North Island for its fresh, crisp, cool (more icy cold) spring waters that is utilised also for the popular PUMP drinks.
A.
Nice, well formed walkway and the river is amazing.
v.
Toilets at both ends of the walkway. Easy parking. VERY cold water. Track is well marked, easy walk but not really suitable for pram
S.
Lovely walk along the river. Well built and maintained track. Nice native planting of trees by local schools.

It was well worth to visit amazing water, the long track really needed an upgrade and was dissapointing to see so little native bush along the side of this wonderful river of life, there also needs a tap or water outlet so visitor's can fill there water bottles or just have a taste of pure nature, step it up nz govt.
M.
(Translated) One can only recommend this path along the river. Trout can be seen swimming in the crystal clear water in some places. The path is scrapped or leads over well-paved wooden walkways. There are endless places for beautiful photo opportunities.
