My toddler and I loved it. The lady was very nice and accommodating. She walked around with us and let us take as much time as a toddler needs to explore. Would Def recommend.

Much better experience than a zoo. The best place to go if you want to experience nature and learn more about it; rather than just seeing a tiger in an enclosure and going “wow”. The one-on-one experience with the owner teaches a whole lot of new things. Totally worth the low price. Would love to go again.

Unfortunately was closed when we arrived around 12pm. Got to see two beautiful peacocks and a few other animals behind fences~☆ Wanted to come visit before it apparently closes down. Hoping to visit and try again as it looks beautiful 😊

Worth the visit especially in the summer. Rachel gives a great tour especially with the history of the place and other interesting stories about the animals there. I ❤️ the peacocks.

The scenic reserve is also has Zoological garden within which doesn't allow dogs for a very obvious reason but outside of that has beautiful bike track. Highly recommended place for small kids if they want to experience close contact with Peacocks, they have about 5 to 6 of them. SO beautiful

What a quaint little rescue farm. Actually, it's not that little. We just happened upon the private zoo when we saw the yellow road sign that read "Zoological Gardens" on our way up the Remarkables this week. On our way back we followed Google Maps to the farm and were met by Rachel who took our family of four on a guided tour (A $15 fee for adults - kids are free—it's low-tech here, so cash only) and showed us all the work she does with rescue animals. We could tell she's passionate about her ecosystem. Our 8 year old was enthralled by the hands-on experience feeding the ducks (and ducklings) and one of the peacocks gently took a morsel of carrot right out of her hand. As well as rescuing dear little hedgehogs and starting up bumblebee colonies, Rachel takes in ducks of all shapes and sizes, exotic birds and bunnies. Peacocks roam free as well as impressive roosters. 3 ponies came to us as we called them from the fenceline and enjoyed a scratch and tickle (as well as a bunch of carrots Rachel gave us to feed them). The tour lasted about an hour so great value for money. She's never seen any of the Google reviews, because she doesn't have a computer. Come with cash and a sunhat and you'll be in for a treat.

We enjoyed two hours here with the lovely owner Rachel, particularly enjoying how, when she could easily be retired she is busy teaching young people practical everyday conservation of land, trees, animals /birds / fish and growing most of their vegetables. Its not exotic thank goodness, but it's heartwarming and genuine and the birds and rabbits that are caged are clean and clearly loved. For all the rat race of queenstown this is the antidote.

Nice place. Mostly birds. It would be more accurately called an animal sanctuary than a zoological garden. Nice for kids especially.

A great outing for children. Beautiful gardens, some very unusual animals and a lovely eccentric tour guide 🙂

Nice set up little place for any interested in nature around them

A mildly distracting if moderately expensive outing for children. The pleasant owner holding a genuine but misguided belief in the rescue and preservation of introduced pests, the most notable being hedgehogs.

Beautiful property, lovely concept, sadly extremely disheartened by the lovely guide who indoctrinated us with incorrect facts about NZ conservation of native wildlife. I was sad to learn they save and release hedgehogs! They don’t believe in controlling possums, rats, stoats, cats or ferrets instead she has a deluded view that they all live in harmony. She incorrectly blamed 1080 for dead trees and birds, and disrespected the conservation work of DOC. The gardens definitely evoked a sense of NZ’s UK heritage with beautiful European trees and farm animals, but I wish there was a balance of shared knowledge of the native ecology of NZ, instead of ignorance.

I was going through old vacation photos and remembered this place from five years ago. We'd just seen the signs for this place while driving around and decided to visit. It was probably the most charming animal rescue I've ever seen. The owner Ivan showed us around on his scooter, describing the animals' origins from the pit ponies to the Enderby Island rabbits. Everything from the aviary to the free-ranging ducks and peacocks seemed content and cared for. Knowing it's still going is heartening to hear.

Awesome experience! I really liked the monkey that they had there called Elijah. He really liked bananas and watermelons and could speak English (although not well) what an awesome place!

This place is truly an animal's paradise. My husband and I witnessed so much love and passion from one of the owners, Rachel, who showed us around their gardens today. There is a lot of history in their sanctuary, as we learned their father was the QT Dr. Doolittle of his time. Clearly the apples don't fall far from the tree! All of the animals looked so happy and the grounds was so perfectly groomed & looking tidy. They even created a Hobbiton-resembling hedgehog quarters out of 3x recycled materials. It is so nice to know that there are people willing to take in animals and nurse them back to health and given lots of love! Can't thank Rachel & her sister enough! Xx

A few of us ranging from the Ages of 6 to 50 thoroughly Enjoyed our Guided tour from the lovely Rachel of this amazing Animal Sanctuary,not only do you get up close and personal with the Animals,you also get to experience what Rachel and her family have been doing for Many many Years. $15 for Adults and Children are free. Nice guided walk around this lovely home garden with beautiful peacocks, daffodils and birds.

A real hidden gem of the area. One of the best places around to spend a few hours if you have toddlers along, and the owner's enthusiasm and passion for the sanctuary is remarkable.

Rachel made us feel very welcome, showed us around there property..lots of stories & very loved animals..well worth $15.00

One of those strange places you stumble on from time to time. Run by enthusiasts with no official support. It is more like a kids animal farm and serves the local community as that.
