Awesome little theatre. Old school seats and lovely little tuck shop. Recently updated to have big cinema style sound with body thumping bass. Affordable prices with little compromise. Theatre was much cleaner than the big city franchises too. A real pleasure. Thanks Kings Theatre

It is showing its age a little but brings back so many good memories and the volunteer staff do a fantastic job every time.

A great collection of old projectors, spent time looking at them

Beautiful old building. Downstairs is a shop with lots of great second-hand books. It is run by volunteers to help keep the theatre going.

It was pretty cool. Took me back to when I was a little boy! Big screen and surround sound was awesome! Got lost in the movie and my son really enjoyed it too! Planning to return and watch another soon!

I love the history of this building. It's such a treasure. Although it could do with some TLC, the roughness gives it character. Visiting the Kings Theatre to see a movie is a must, the first theatre to have movie with sound in New Zealand (quite possibly the southern hemisphere) - enter with an open mind and take in what this building may have seen over the years. There isn't a bad seat in the house, all seats get a great view of the screen.

Before moving to Stratford 18 months ago we would travel from Auckland to see family on stage in various productions. Now we live here we are regulars at the movies. All the new films, children's and adult are shown here at the same time as the larger cinema groups.
The theatre is 5 minutes from home, the staff are polite and welcoming and you can buy from a variety of drinks and lollies and not overpriced.
As the theatre is not open every or all day and to conserve heating during the cold winter months, (its not left on all day) every customer is offered a warm rug to wrap around themselves. Where else would you get that
More activities and extra sessions are planned and we will be making full use of our local theatre.

Cool old building, thankfully maintained by Taranaki Energy Trust. No massive Dolby sound system to shake your fillings loose, but helpful friendly staff and a comfortable place to watch a movie.

😍 i love our theatre we have good movies on its pretty cheap. The food bar though doesnt have much of a selection though and its not exactly a bang for the bucks it gets freezing inside but they have blankets you can use but if you dress warm and bring a bag full of goodies from new world or countdown youll be fine they usually let you bring your own stuff aslong as its not smell hot foods like chinese or something

Helen took us through a very interesting and informative trip through Kings Theatre in Stratford even including some ghost stories ☺. The history is fascinating with many old projectors to check out. Thank you Helen.

Going to the cinema here becomes an event of stepping back in time. A Fantastic and personal service is a treat before you even see the movie. Everyone should experience this at least once!!

Love that this historic cinema is still in use. Kings Theatre was the first cinema in New Zealand to show 'Talkies' and celebrates 100 years since opening in 1918 this year.
