Reviews of Whangamomona Saddle
Amazing view! You can see both Mt Taranaki and Mt Ruapehu from this picnic area. There is no shade in this area so be prepared
Very interesting and intrepid drive, one of the most mysterious roads I have seen in New Zealand. It is quite a long windy road with gravel in some areas and one tunnel. The farm land surrounding the road is very pretty, but has some soil slips apparently due to lack of forestry. Overall a great roadtrip for the day.
Along the Forgotten Highway is the third saddle at a height of 270 m above sea level.
250 bush fellers were employed to clear the road which used to be an 8 hour journey.
No views here just beautiful beech trees and a bush walk through a reserve.
After seeing the Strathmore Saddle, this saddle view point is definitely under whelming, especially most part is covered by the forest surrounding. The relatively better view is across the road, where there is no road barrier (danger!!), there is a very deep opening to see across the forest. Don't get close and beware of the oncoming cars!
It's not called the forgotten hyway for no good reason, stunning views very rural a must do for most motorcyclists.
Horrific Road to drive I felt car sick but an experience I will never forget and amazing views.
Must have seen over 20 wild goats.
Beautiful
On a clear day the views are fantastic
