Stopped by here for lunch as part of our cruise in the Abel Tasman park area. Didn't stay but had a quick walk around. Typical DoC type park with basic (but modern) amenity facilities and water available and no rubbish disposal, albeit this had a few amenity blocks as is a large campground which can take up to around 850 people. Is staffed and some basic items available from the office. Beautiful beach on the doorstep.

We came for a drive, as there is a Toyota Kiwi Guardian post here. The last 12km is on unsealed roads, so care needs to be taken. The sand here is golden and I wish we could have come on a sunny day, but still worth the visit. There are walking tracks that start from here, so plenty of visitors for the day, apart from those staying at the campground
C.
Lovely place to stay for a few nights. However don't forget your repellent (lovely sandflies ;) )
Perfect facilities, thank you DOC !
P.
What a magnificent campground! Drinkable water from the taps, beautiful beach, great walks, stunning scenery, and flushing toilets - what more could you want!! Big campsite (busy during Christmas, Easter and NZ public holidays) but generally not busy. It is a narrow, windy, gravel road but easy access from Takaka (about 40 minutes drive).
Local secret - call past 'The Grove' just out of Takaka on your way here - stunning Limestone formations that need to be looked at!!
A.
Decent campsite. It also has food wood fire spots. Also, the campsite for hikers is easily in the best spot, right next to the beach.
C.
Has toilets and cold showers and sells ice blocks. The beach is really nice and worth the drive. Personally the short hike to the left or eight to one of the more secluded beaches are well worth it and I recommend doing it.
Z.
Huge but well managed campground, with core facilities, toilets, showers (cold 🥶) compost pickup daily. Rubbish and recycling is responsibility of the camper,as it should be.
Adjacent to the best beach and bush walks in the world.
D.
Wow, it's like a whole world in itself! Great location, worth the headache driving through swirly road 🚘

This place is amazing. AT Nat Park is beautiful. Our experience was only soured by one thing, the people. Avoid section A in this camping ground.
When we first arrived to our camping spot, we were approached by a half-naked DoC representative called, “Rusty”. Without saying hello, and with a beer in hand, he proceeded to tell my partner that the area surrounding his caravan (which he lives in permanently) is reserved for campers and caravans (it’s not). Over the week we stayed there, we watched this self appointed ruler of the camping ground yell at people across the park, tell other people not to camp near to his caravan and chastise young children for getting too close to his clothesline.
For someone who is so obsessed with rules, real or imaginary, he doesn’t like to follow them. He and his friends kept us awake on numerous nights well after ten, as they continued to drink, cackle and shriek loudly.
He has claimed one of the fire pits near his caravan as his own, and erected a shelter over it. When he’s not using it, which is most of the time, he puts some old car chairs on the table, implying that he has sole use.
On our final day he chose to patronise my partner again, and we left the following day.
Emotions aside, this is not the behaviour we have come to expect from a DoC representative.

Great D.O.C. camp windy metal road to get there but once you arrive nice big camp plenty of room to park . Amazing true golden sandy beach and some great walks. Enjoyed my stay and will return
I.
One of if not the biggest campground in Abel tasman, i didn't stay overnight but i got a watertaxi back from there so i was there for a couple of hours. It is a very sophisticated campground, clean toilets with sinks and soap and all, a little information centre and you can drink the water unfiltered throughout the park. The beach is one of the nicest and you could just come here by watertaxi and back, you don't have to hike but if you do, Anapai bay which is my absolute favourite is only bout 2 hours or something away. If you make it to totaranui also check out that huge treestump at the start of the trail up north you can climb arround on it and take pictures. I really recommend you go here!
A.
Would be the best DOC Camp in the country by far, Clean toilets and wheelchair access, Showers if you want, ( solar or straight cold ), Excellent walks, Kayaking Boat ramp, Choice fishing, Dump station and water, Extremely limited phone reception, Totally worth a visit
T.
The most beautiful beach. An awesome place to kayak. Easy access camp sites.
B.
Amazing place.
Approx 45min drive from Takaka, set in the Abel Tasman national park. Alternatively boat access from Kaiteriteri. Basic camp ground with a lodge available for more comfortable accommodation. If you want to see one of New Zealand’s top swimming beaches then this has to be included
S.
Stayed in Section V , very family friendly. We found the DoC workers very professional and courteous , especially the ladies in the office, who dealt well with some pretty wound-up and short fused customers.
G.
Beautiful campground with plenty of room. Make sure you explore the grounds before picking a campsite as there are lots of empty secluded areas that people might not have found.
V.
Wow wow wow...DOC you have done/continue doing a fantastic job here, facilities are clean tidy and modern, staff very helpful, and the office has great up-to-date information
r.
Perfect place for camping! Highly recommend, lots of walking tracks, gold beaches, and many activities available. Toilets where ok. Big rubbish bean available.
T.
So beautiful. We were there in early spring and there was almost no one there. The beach makes this beautiful arc. There was a bird that was tantalizing me hiding in and out of the vegetation. Hard to take a portrait. It is a bit of a trip to get to this place over the local mountains but beautiful.
B.
Paradise slightly dulled only by rampant Weka and Pukeko with their middle of the night squawks.. We had a blast
A.
The only reason we give it a 3 is simply because we didn't stay there...stunning sandy beach
R.
Paradise spoiled by lack of capability from DOC. Don’t get me wrong, the staff are lovely but they have no idea how to keep toilet blocks clean. Not quite what they signed up for.
R.
Awesome beach when the weather is great. Looks like a great spot to camp.
H.
Great campsite with good facilities. Fire pits were an added bonus!
H.
Wow what a spot, very lge ova 700 spaces. Beautiful beach
J.
Cold and windy. Not nice place today. Guess it's lovely in gd weather.
R.
Good campsite. Clean facilitate and easy access to sea and beach. Be aware that there is little to no phone signal so you'll have to entertain yourself and the little screamers without that. The only downside is the absolutely shocking road to the camp especially if you're not the proud owner of a off-road vehicle. Dusty, rutty and very narrow in places, especially if you meet one of the aforementioned vehicles towing and aircraft carrier. I'd still recommend it though.
B.
Looks to be a nice DOC camp. We just visited on the ferry
N.
Doc staff are very friendly and helpful. Cleaniness and vibe depends on fellow campers...not too bad. We felt uncomfortable having some Glaswegian guy and family from Nelson next to us who pretty much bullied our site neighbours out and only got friendly with us to find out how much longer we would stay (on Xmas Day). Others were able to enter into genuinely nice conversations. If you want an awesome beach close to you and don't mind cold showers this is still a worthwhile place.
M.
Probably most beautiful NZ beach!
G.
Probably one of the most beautiful campgrounds in NZ. This is a remote location so obviously the facilities may not be as advanced as other campgrounds, but it's part of the appeal. Good access to Abel Tasman national park, the Torrent River and Cleopatra's pool are a must see.
J.
A beautiful open remote campground with plenty of space. The beaches had golden sand and the water was stunning. Great place to stay and visit part of the Abel Tasman national park
C.
Great camp plenty of spaces and great walks
E.
Lovely spot, just idyllic. Excellent, spotless facilities. We visited in March, so the campground had lots of room, got a lovely spot by the estuary to ourselves. We loved the cheeky wekas everywhere.
B.
Beautiful long beach with native bush coming down to caves. Amazing tramping from here. The toilet facilities need a little hook to hang your towel on. Compost can be taken to the office :-)
L.
Sandfly alert. Bizarre bugs on the sand. Overrun with humans in Summer. Worth your time.
L.
Awesome doc site. Flushing toilets lovely beach
A.
Next to nobody there at the end of April. Beautiful, peaceful place to get away from everything and unwind. Back to basics camping but with flushable toilets and cold showers. Watch out for the wekas, they get into everything, but their antics are amusing.
S.
Beautiful unspoiled place, with weka's a plenty
B.
Nice remote campsite in beach side location. Cold water, flush toilets and showers available all clean and well maintained. Good access to hikes. The 10km unsealed Road wasn't too bad. Just beware they lock you in, we needed to get going early at 6:30 but they lock the site until 7:30 and there is no budging.
P.
Great spot with few other campers. Will be different from Dec onwards.
D.
Great campsite. Stunning and peaceful location. Sunset and sunrise at the beach or just reading in a chair in the afternoon is a dream. Filtered drinking water stations scattered through our. Toilets and basins for washing food etc. Cold showers though- not for the faint hearted in winter/autumn. Would recommend.
D.
Amazing place with so many nice hikes and great scenery. We walked south to Goat bay which was about 20 minutes but over a big hill. Going north was better walking around the headlands track loop which was about 40 minutes. Great location. We came in winter so the place was nice and quiet.
R.
Beautiful place , Huge campground however infested with bugs and the tall grass on camp doesn’t help in rain and wet conditions. The windy and loose gravel road is another challenge to get through to the camp.
R.
Looks well looked after.
Lovely beach
J.
Well worth the drive to this great camp site. Must be the DoC jewel of the south.
J.
Big, could be very busy and noisy!
E.
Possibly the best campsite in the world?! It would be so if it weren't for the sandflies....
A.
Amazing location, pristine sand and water. It is far from asphalt and shops so be well prepared for adventure.
E.
Awesome place to camp and hike.
I.
Truly relaxing. No shops, nothing but great outdoors, one of tbr best beaches in the world. Massive campsite. But still feels small. Good walks but to really get the best out of it you need a way to get out on water. Safe for kids...take their bikes.
J.
Golden sands galore narrow road in be careful worth a look
D.
Can't wait to return after an 18 year absence.
C.
Beautiful beach, lagoon for kids. Kayaking fishing and tramping/ walking. The facilities are basic but good. Lovely campground and staff. The road in is not an easy road, drive slowly and give way to uphilll vehicles.
D.
A difficult place to visit in the motor home. The time of year suited us as was not busy. Wouldn't want to to the roads in the height of summer. Had the beach to ourselves and campsite almost empty. Will be back to visit again. Keep the site a secret
T.
Most beautifulest camp ground ever stayed in. Has all the necessities necessary at your finger tips. Highly recommended for families or just that couple get away !!!!🕊
T.
What a hidden Gem. Off the beaten track and isolated but it is worth traveling here. Great beach and very beautiful. Facilities are basic with no power but the location is amazing. I wouldn't miss it. Go live a little
D.
Busy over the summer months and hot and dust.
No convenience stores or cafes anywhere near here so bring anything you need for your stay with you.
10 km of good but windy dirt road to navigate if coming by car or bike.
Also accessible from Marahau via water taxi.
B.
Great location but bothersome wekas ,DOC are not very user friendly, website and officious manner, just my feeling
G.
Great campsite, access to toilets and cold showers with drinkable water and places to do dishes. Also fire pits and running water at each site. Amazing wild life, be weary of the weka, they will steal your food if you don't watch it 😁
M.
What a place ! Stunning beach. Huge campsite after a very windy gravel road but more than worth the trip to. Toilets and cold showers very clean.
J.
Absolutely fabulous place to stay with golden sand beaches crystal clear water and right on the coastal walking track trough the Bush other than cellphone coverage as there is none what more could you ask. Maybe a decent road into the place it's pretty rough and narrow in places but we got in and out ok
E.
Amazing location. Clean, well maintained campsites in the most idyllic location. Cold showers and flushing toilets.
N.
Great spot, very busy in the school holidays. Sells out quick in July.
T.
Great camp ground. Great for families
M.
A big, busy campsite. Glad that we were just passing through. This is not the place for a quiet holiday.
C.
Best camp site I have been to. Minimal facilities. Maximum beauty.
C.
Very cold in the lodge in winter, bring electric blanket. Hotties weren't enough. Other than that good facilities. Good place for groups. Had fun despite coldness
M.
Just passing through (on the Great Walk) but it looks like an excellent campground. Large and well laid out with excellent facilities ☺
J.
Great. Nice spot to do the great coastal walk. Can make it to Awaroa in 2.5hrs, have lunch there and then walk till you can’t anymore then take the water taxi back.
S.

Great scenery, had a swim in the sea. An out of the way place to get back to nature.
C.
Driving this gravel road to this place is definitley worth it
M.
Very nice beach 🏖️ and great off season!

The clearest water you'll ever bathe in. Just bring antihistamine tablets and cream for the sandfly and mosquito bites you'll get.

(Translated) very nice campsite! relatively cheap with $ 15 (take exact cash if you arrive outside of office time!) and very large. it is built in several separated by trees areas, although not every one has a small house with toilets and showers so you may have to go a bit further. the beach is just across the street and very nice and clean. The staff in the office is super nice and helpful.

(Translated) A great campsite with plenty of space and a very nice stand right outside the front door. At the south end the Abel Tasman track starts directly. Only neg. Point would be that a few more toilets and wash houses could be there. But that's a minor matter here.
