O.I haven't been to the pictures in a long time so this review may be a little off because my expectations were to high. Nice little place staff were very friendly. Our pop corn seemed like the last bits in the cabinet really small and tonnes of unpopped kernels (just our luck), my daughters 7up tasted old or moldy or something but it wasn't very nice (she still drank it lol) The seating seemed like they could've been a little higher I felt if I sat up straight the child behind me wouldn't have been able to see. Movie was cool and the sound was great
B.Bit tired. Their first movie of day did not start until 1.30pm they opened door at 1.20. Big que outside of kids waiting for it, most would have missed first 10 to 20 minutes of movie. Luck ours started at 2 so managed to get to seat at 1.50.
Badly handled and yet know staff were in building at least an hour prior to opening doors. Left a bit of sour taste. Luckily movie was good.
M.The seats in the cinema are very comfy and the popcorn isn't too deer. Staff are nice and friendly. Totally recommend this place for watching movies with the mates.
A.Starlight is such a vibe. It's definitely on the older and smaller size but the staff are always lovely and they have a good range movies.

A.Average cinema in Taupo. They didn't bother to check whether everyone had a vaccine pass. I guess we should count ourselves lucky that there's a cinema actually operating in Taupo!

v.A great cinema. Loved the fact you could purchase wine and beer. The theater was comfortable and like any other current movie theater. Seats comfortable and leg room fine for an average size person. Will certainly visit again.

S.This is a good cinema, with friendly service, although it does look incredibly dated (though this shouldn't really matter if there movies are good). Definitely could do with some bigger screens.

A.Food is not excessively priced, compared to some of the cinemas I have been too.
The sound on the adverts and previews is very varied. Some ads you can't hear and some are deafening. Nice air conditioning. The leg space between the seats is too small.

A.Lovely staff and although not as modern as city cinemas, it is defiantly a great place to go and watch a movie. Very homey and the introduction song for starlight cinema is very catchy.
M.The staff are friendly and it is tidy and has five cinemas so easy to find something to watch.
L.Great staff, small cinemas, volume was set perfectly for me (I find Hoyts is normally a bit too loud). I went to a first day viewing of a large film, so all seats were taken. (Currently no allocated seats, but I don't think any of the seats would have been terrible.) Chairs aren't huge like with the newer cinemas.

G.Went to see Mary Poppins and Aquaman. Really enjoyed both movies with treats and a good coffee. Comfortable seating and good size theatre not being over crowded. Nice quality time during the school holidays.

E.Not a very modern cinema but shows all current movies. Picture and sound quality of the cinema is still very good considering its age. It would be nice to have the ability to book tickets online, otherwise tickets need to be purchased at the counter in person. A small shop sells snacks, drinks and some alcoholic beverages.
S.Ok so not the best cinema in the world, but still really enjoyable. The staff are fantastic, they kept us informed that we were still all ok for getting into a film when there was a big queue. They held off starting the film until everyone was able to get into the cinema.

D.A cute independent that has a lot of character, not just in the buildings, but in the staff as well. Comfy seats, and a great set up for cinema goers.

N.Really nice cinema. A bit old fashioned but still nice. They have little lolly bags and yum ice cream flavours. The cinemas are pretty big with lots of seats.
B.Starlight Cinema Centre is a venue that does the best it can with its available space. Located in the centre of the Taupo CBD, it is easy to find, and well positioned.
Prices are competitive, and the cinema offers 3D cinemas for an immersive experience.
The overall look of the premesis is dated, and reminds me of Cinemas back in the early 90's that still had intermission. Given this though, the seating was comfortable, and space was ample.
The food was expensive (As with all cinemas), but was tasty. The popcorn was just about the best I've ever eaten at a cinema.
The biggest issue with the cinema is the cramped rabbits Warren they have had to create to fit everything. The foyer is tiny, and feels cramped even outside of premiere time. The stair cases are numerous, and getting to the cinemas is a chore. As I said at the beginning however, this is unavoidable given their location in the centre of the shopping district.
If you're in Taupo, and there is a must-see movie, then have no qualms in grabbing a bag of pop corn and heading into the Starlight Cinema Centre. It's comfortable, and pleasant to watch in.

J.Friendly staff, good selection of films. I went to see 'No ordinary Sheila', shown at New Zealand International film festival. Drinks/popcorn good price. Other more blockbuster films such as Blade Runner 2049 also showing.

L.This cinema is down a side alley. Seems to be trapped in the 90's. The ticket prices are slightly higher than other places. And the facilities are dated. Needs a good renovation. But not a bad place to checkout if your after something to do in Taupo when it's raining.
A.Been to starlight numerous times. It's a great little theatre, and the owner is awesome at supporting the local community. Seats are comfortable, sound is awesome and great quality digital experience.

M.Great Taupo cinema, it's not your usual big brand name and therefore doesn't have amenities that come with it (IMAX/XTREMEscreen) but it has a great vibe and they have a wonderful selection at the candybar. The service is top notch and it feels like a special occasion when you go here. Think Rialto more than Event.

R.Quirky little cinema was neat and nostalgic, brings back memories of how cinemas used to be.
D.Queit cheap. About 20 minutes if adds that are always in the same order. Entrance is a bit run down but the cinema itself is always clean. There is an arcade with children's games.
S.I love the small intimate movie theaters and the fact that they have fresh rolled ice cream cones. The prices are about $16 per ticket on a Saturday night.
M.My favorite thing to do is watch movies on the big screen with the meanest surround sound, it's nothing like Dolby atmos at reading cinemas but the awesome staff make up for it.

R.Went to watch Topgun at Taupo. Long queue out door so pre-ordering tickets would be a good idea. Movie was great but no fresh air at all in the theater and everyone was cooking. Not great during covid times.
