Amazing campground by a vast lake. Brought my dog with me - just call the Te Kuiti office and you can get a permit done online via email. Careful driving in - I had to drive through paddock of curious calves who need a lot of encouragement to get out of the way! Definitely remember to close the gates behind you if you opened them. Remember to bring insect repellent!

Absolutely stunning spot, lovely getaway. Huge area for tents, water nearby was calm for our 2 year old to play in and lots of boating activities. DOC ranger was very friendly. Flush toilets and running (but not drinkable) water. The DOC website says there are BBQ facilities but this is not correct

This is a stunning DOC campsite with 50 large unpowered pitches and awesome views. Approx half the site is for campers with dogs (dont forget to apply online for your free dog permit). Modern flushing toilets but no showers. Safe beach area and an easy boat launch. The sunsets will take your breath away.

What a gem, fun in the sun for the family. Easy boat access and picnic areas. 4 flushable toilets onsite were kept clean. Definitely visit again!

Surprisingly awesome DOC camp site! Well off the beaten track, but a great setting. Lots of space, right on the Waikato River, flushing toilets, dog friendly

This is our third year coming to Arohena and it is always so beautiful and peaceful. I love that there are flushing toilets and water stations set up in various spots. DOC do an amazing job of looking after it.

Stunner of a Campground. DOC have done an amazing job. Having a DOC Ranger there full time is also handy and helps that he is as friendly as ever. 110% Recommend

This is a great place to camp as its quite cheap per night. Around $8/night (Adults) I have gone here to Kayak. It was a very windy day so the river was a bit choppy. The road here is steep as you enter the campground and very narrow. There are a few blind corners. There are only basic facilities here. Dogs are allowed but requires a DOC permit according to their website. It is not recommended to go here if you have a massive caravan and its pulled by a small vehicle as its too steep getting out.

Nice quiet place for the family. There are no showers buy there are reasonable toilets available. Make sure you take plenty of drinking water
