Reviews of Light House Cuba
C.
Love this cinema! It is super cozy. I love the couches and the size of each screening room adds a great atmosphere. Only reason it's not a five star review is that there is no popcorn!
K.
Staffs were helpful. Cool and cozy vibes. Chair is comfy. That’s all you need for a great movie night
Z.
Callum gladly helped me with a pesky last minute cancellation and for what was not a great scenario I was offered the most brilliant customer service I’ve received anywhere! So incredibly understanding and willing to be as helpful as possible. Can’t wait to head back soon to a superb cinema.
G.
Great little cinema; always clean, good staff; appreciate how well staff manage the Covid19 restrictions, polite and clear. And I really enjoyed my movie!
C.
Lighting and atmosphere is great, each cinema room is super comfy with the sofas and has a big screen. My favorite cinema in Wellington!
D.
Always a wonderful experience. Lovely staff offered to bring in coffees and icecream when it was all ready - to our seats! What a brilliant team.
S.
Really good cinema that caters to both the art house and mainstream crowds. Aesthetic is really nice and seats are cozy. Monday and Tuesday prices are the best in Welly.
S.
Wonderful experience. Dress lightly as it's very very warm inside. Small intimate cinema
P.
Cute artsy cinema.
Vintage sofa seat but not so comfortable if you sit like an hour or so.
Overall is interesting experience.
A.
Compact but cozy place for movies like phantom thread. Suitable for couples, seniors or even alone.
You can order food or drinks and bring them into the cinema. The sofa-seats are lovely.
E.
Very nice cinema. The seats are like couches /mini sofas. The movie theatre is nice and cozy. For senior citizens every Wednesday it's free coffee and $11.50 tickets. Very enjoyable little place. Loved the experience !
P.
Enjoyed my visit here. Checked out a International short film with my hubby. Great little theater. Will definitely visit again.
M.
Nice staff good coffee.
Nice small movie theater.
B.
Love this little cinema. Great location. Friendly staff. Good selection of snacks and drinks.
T.
A delightful small cinema with several theatres of modest size, at least some of which have paired seats for cost filmgoing 😁
T.
Cute little cinema, cozy couches and great atmosphere.
H.
Come and visit the best little arthouse cinemas in the best little capital in the world. Great coffee, great atmosphere, and great films of course!
Light House Cinema, which originated in Petone and then opened in Pauatahanui, has opened three new cinemas in Wellington’s bohemian Cuba quarter, at 29 Wigan Street opposite Havana Bar.
Light House Cinema is an independent, locally run Wellington business. Starting from small beginnings we have steadily grown to become one of the capital’s favourite movie going locations.
Screening a range of independent and blockbusters films, you can trust there will always be a selected diverse schedule of films keeping audiences satisfied. The theatres themselves are the comfiest affair you’ll find in Wellington, with modern- snug seats accompanied by cushions allowing for further satisfaction. The foyer is an inviting friendly space, serving quality espresso, craft beer, wines, fresh food and the ultimate feature film treats.
Recently named Best cinema in New Zealand, awarded by the Australian Independent Distributors Association, Light House Cuba creates the ultimate film going experience and all you need to do is sit back and relax.
Unwind in our comfortable foyers with our great coffee, fresh food, boutique beers and fine wines. Then settle into our cosy cinemas as we show you the world.
Escape from the everyday. Sit back, relax and unwind with Light House Cinema.
“We believe Light House Cuba will not only cater for the inner city community, but also become an attraction from further afield.
D.
Fantastic and Classy cinemas! Watched a nice movie tonight. Toilets were tidy, seating comfy, staff were very friendly , wine nice and chilled. Really enjoyed my experience. Thank you 😊 🍷
I’ll be back for sure
T.
In a city without any large cinema chains, Light House is the best movie going experience in Wellington. Comfy, friendly staff, a great range of arthouse and blockbusters too.
K.
I didn't actually try their coffee so I can't comment. But I thought that mural was fun if a bit sleazy
s.
Cozy lil cinema with great vibe. Your movie session is opened by a real life human being instead. No advertisements and replaced by movie quiz. Seatings featured with couple seats - can be abit awkward if u go alone and having a stranger sitting next to you...
H.
Really nice art house cinema, great prices on a Monday! Warm vibe and it radiates a love of film. I went to see Amundsen and highly enjoyed it, a very good film, contrary to what the rotten tomatoes score suggests. Sometimes you have to go see and experience the film for yourself, in local cinemas, not just believe what critics say about it. And the cinema experience is still better than the netflix one
L.
Easily my favourite cinema in the city. Two seater couches and you can bring your wine glass or coffee from the cafe into the cinema. Each theatre is quite small. The beautiful NZ birds cut out on the cinema lights help create a peaceful ambiance before the movie starts.
L.
Wasn't a very nice experience. Couch is uncomfortable. We watched the silent place. People keeps going in and out, the door is very loud everytime someone shut it. That's very annoying especially when watching this kinda movie. I know it's not your fault that people keeps walking in and out, but you can at least get like a gentle closing door idk.
B.
Great place to see a movie with a glass of wine
D.
A small and decent cinema for friends and family. Seats come with comfortable design like a big couch for two people per seat.
V.
One of Wellington’s hidden gems. Comfy, small theatres, pleasant beverages, and an ever revolving line up of interesting films. Definitely the place to go if you’re partial to Arthouse, indie, or international cinema. Highly recommend
A.
First time here and as always this Lighthouse theatre didn't disappoint.
A.
I give this cinema 5 stars why? 1 lovely staff 2 Sam Neil film 3 couches that were super cozy 4 and this is the most relevant part the fantastic staff let us keep our bags in a tiny closet. Anywho great overall cinema and would 100% recommend as a cozy situation
H.
Always great service and a nice atmosphere. They show some great movies too! Very comfortable seating with couches and pillows.
C.
They make the walls move 🎥 Comfortable seating as well.
K.
I love this cinema. Its cute, comfy, and cozy as!
D.
This cute little cinema is one of my favorites. The seats (double sofa style) are really comfy, perfect for a couple. They have side tables big enough for drinks or food. The bar staff is friendly and makes great coffee and tea. The movie selection is great: they show mostly independent or foreign movies.
S.
Local small chain cinema - 3 screens. Main releases as well as art house and small run festivals. Comfy sofas. Cafe bar in foyer. Plays NT Live and Opera when available. Very handy to walk to from anywhere in central Wellington
H.
Friendly staff and comfortable theatre
F.
What an awesome place! A luxurious cinema experience that seems to remember film is an art form and entertainment. I really enjoyed watching a movie in comfy sofa seats laughing along to the movie with the rest of the audience. I can confidently say we all had a wonderful time, all the more thanks to the light House's atmosphere.
P.
Excellent boutique inner city venue with a great little licensed cafe too. Cinema seating is love seats-style. Thre sound quality is good and the range of films is wide by Kiwi standards.
L.
Cosy film cinema. Great for a night out w a partner or friend
M.
I love this movie theatre. Cool sofas, nice cafe and you can take your wine glass with you into the movie hall. Cosy and cute. Plus who doesn't love movies.
A.
Absolutely love. Cannot recommend enough. Hidden away in a side street in Wellington but well worth it once found. Amazing food and drinks. Top service and the cinemas are so comfy with the double chairs and pillows. Would highly recommend.
C.
Really amazing cinema. Staff are really friendly and the vibe of the cinema is really chill. When I come back to wellington will definitely be back
A.
I'm not gonna lie, I was really expecting to pay a lot for not very much.
The ticket prices were a little more expensive than other places (which I totally understand) but my word, they definitely make up for it in comfort.
The screen was smaller than most, but it was definitely big enough to not be a problem.
The seats were so nice as well, they were like mini sofas, absolutely perfect if you're going with as a couple as there is no joining section.
Staff were super friendly and drinks were actually reasonably priced.
Definitely coming back here in future.
L.
Favourite cinema by far. Comfortable chairs with lots of room. Staff exceptionally friendly and welcoming a must visit
G.
A Sunday session escape from the cold outside!. What better than an enjoyable musical movie, great coffee and food in warm, cosy surroundings to lift the spirits!
J.
Fantastic cinema with friendly accommodating staff. Yummy choc tops and lovely atmosphere. Comfy chairs too. Recommended!
T.
Nice small cinema with comfortable seating. The place is located in a relatively decent area, but a bit of a walk from Courtenay/town. The pricing for food is a bit high, but they do serve alcohol if that is something you'd want while watching a movie. Overall a good cinema.
J.
This is such a cute spot hidden in town- the theatres are so cozy, and the service is so spot on. Highly recommend and will be coming here often!
E.
Always a lovely evening at this cosy, intimate theatre. I love the generous wine glass pours. Please never change that guys. It’s such a draw card. Great selection of alternate films to watch on couches. I recommend booking in advance online so you’re never disappointed because seats are limited. Best cinema in Wellington for date night.
S.
Lively, boutique cinema that strikes an alluring balance between box office biggies and eclectic offerings. There is always something to attract. Seating is very comfortable and the food and beverages are more cafe style than the face-jamming pap sold at many bigger chain cinemas. The only drawback is the small size of some of the individual cinemas, denying the perspective and distance from screen that would fully justify the premium ticket prices.
E.
Very nice Cinema. They have all snacks and drinks you need
G.
Nice cafe good nibbles and a good picture theatre
P.
Comfy seats and a decent-sized screen. I got some coffee too, which was good. Tickets are a bit pricier considering the other cinemas in Wellington, but it also shows films that the others don't. I'm happy with the experience each time I come to this cinema.
P.
Small cosy couches, cheap on Monday, blood y marvelous 🥰
J.
Great screen, sound, and seats. My new favourite cinema for sure!
C.
Lovely theater complex, shows great movies, often not mainstream, excellent Box Office staff. Very happy to go to more movies there.
T.
What a brilliant wee tucked away theatre! We were really lucky to find this place during our visit to Wellington. A cool little theatre with great service, comfy seats and a bar - awesome :)
J.
All the Lighthouse Conemas have their own ambience. Comfy seating. All you need for a nibble, sweets, coffee, ice creams and of course, The Movies!
C.
I love this small cosy boutique cinema. I love the seats and the cushions. As it was just the two of us in the theatre it was like sitting in your own lounge with a very wide screen. It was awesome. Lovely staff.
N.
Walking down the streets of Wellington on a sunny afternoon, I felt like a movie. A quick Google search gave me Light House as my nearest theatre. Located on an unassuming alley, I did not have high expectations of it. I bought tickets for Capharnaum and walked in to the cinema to find how tiny it was. There were three rows of comfortable couches and pillows with a screen in the front. It really felt like an exclusive, private screening! I was bowled over by the uniqueness of it all that I went in for another movie immediately after. Pro Tip: The cafe has amazing hot chocolate and super-friendly staff. None of the crowds, all of the charm - Wellington's Light House really re-defines the movie experience!
J.
Why Have I Not Been Here Before? A rainy Monday night, glass of red, cool vibe, big chair. So much to like here.
A.
Such a lovely place!!! Warm service, nice sofa, not too big screen. I just love the decoration. I think I will never go any other cinemas but this one from now.
C.
For film lovers in Wellington, Light House Cuba is an essential experience. Excellent coffee and other refreshments are offered in a small but comfortable foyer, and the service from staff is nothing but flawless. In the theatre themselves, two-person couch seating makes Lighthouse a perfect date night destination. Cozy and delightful.
M.
Comfy seats, central location and very friendly nice staff. I booked online to see Rogue One but on arrival staff let me know I had actually booked tickets for a week from now and the session was entirely booked... However they were still waiting on a few stragglers to arrive and would call these missing patrons to ask if we could have their seats. This somehow worked out and I still managed to see the movie. Awesome service.
H.
Boutique style cinema with a great little cafe and bar. Excellent selection of movies to watch from comfortable sofas with wooden arm rests (perfect for your drink). Employees were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend for a date night.
S.
very cute little cinema, a lot of character and friendly staff. the only bad things we felt really spoiled the evening were the lack of air conditioning in the cinema, which meant we were far too hot by the end of the film. Additionally, the couch became terribly uncomfortable despite the cushions. Could have jist been a bad one, who knows. Otherwise a great experience 👌
f.
Love the atmosphere of the cinema, their theaters are comfortable and really good if you're going as a couple (couch seats). As long as you're not all the way behind, you'll have an awesome price. And 11$ on Tuesday.
L.
Lovely little cinema with small theatres with double or single seats. On a very hot day the aircon was very comfortable. Excellent wine and coffee and tables at the front. Cheerful service.
J.
The quintessential boutique cinema with good wines and ice creams to accompany a well curated choice of films. Also, they host the National Theatre Live series for a taste of London's theatre scene at its best. Each theatre has double seater couches fur a cuddly and romantic first date/date night.
A.
Lovely cinematic experience. Definitely recommend it.
J.
Cinema 3 seat 4 needs attention!
J.
Great old-fashioned look, very boutique-sized, comfy theatre just aroun6the corner from popular Cuba St. Nice livingroom feel. Senior deal includes a free tea or coffee. Loved it.
N.
Lovely staff who are eager to help. Comfy seats in the theaters. Great coffee. highly recommended! A unique movie experience, more friendly and relaxed than the bigger cinemas
K.
The Lighthouse is a great little boutique Theatre in the central city. The seating is couch-style, complete with pillows, in a small theatre consisting of around 45 seats. You can see all the latest movies here, as well as more independent and art-house films. A nice change from the busy (and a little dirty) Readings Cinema's on Courtney Place.
H.
Great cosy cinema. Cafe available for snacks, alcohol, non alcohol, coffee, tea. Free glass of tap water. Seatings are spacious. Recommended to book in advance online as there’s only three screens and tickets almost always sell out in advance!
M.
Lovely smaller, more intimate theatres, love the couch style seating in cinema 1. Good wine and food selection.
A.
Very cosy and great prices on Tuesdays.
D.
Well located cinema showing a variety of blockbuster and small films in the one location. Cinema itself was clean and in great condition. Great range of snacks and drinks and staff are very friendly and helpful.
S.
Great little boutique cinema. Helpful friendly staff. Fabulous ice-creams from the Wooden Spoon Company. Couches and cushions to cuddle up with. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Wellington.
k.
charmingly intimate little cinema, comfortable seating and relaxed atmosphere
S.
Excellent staffing - very friendly and happy to talk about currently showing films. The waiting area has a relaxing atmosphere coupled with the cafe service, all tucked down an alleyway off Taranaki St.
G.
A very comfortable and personal way to view a great playlist of movies as opposed to larger brasher chains. And of course a selection of delicious wine and food and coffees to make that viewing experience even more enjoyable.
E.
Great indie cinema tucked down a side street off Upper Cuba Street, and always screening a good mix of interesting films.
j.
small but great place and service
S.
Great movie theatre. They actually look after their customers with fast, friendly service, a great selection of food & drinks, comfortable modern facilities. A lot of attention to detail. Friendly staff. The whole package. Very highly recommended
C.
It's great because it feels like watching a movie in someone's living room but it also feels like you're watching a movie in someone's living room. Ya know?
D.
Another amazing indie cinema in Wellington. Atmosphere in here is great. Love having a beer or a glass of pinot at the pictures. Comfy seats. Only downside is parking. If you are driving I would hit up lighthouse petone. Just as good with free parking options.
A.
Always a great place to visit with friendly staff, great ice cream and clean facilities. Not to mention a great range of movies ☺️
R.
Beautiful theatre. A nice bar with a good range of drinks. The theatre boasts couch seats for comfort in a very pleasant atmosphere. I'll certainly return.
s.
Hard to find but very well worth the effort. One of the best screen to seat distance ratios I have seen. From any of seats even right in the back row, the screen looks humongous.
D.
The Light House Cinema is a luxury movie theatre. There are 3 in Wellington and we visit the Petone one often. This was our first time visiting the Cuba cinema. The service is good. The ice-cream is a bit expensive but tasty. They serve food and drinks which you can take into the movie. Always a special treat.
B.
Great movie experience, lovely staff, often busy on weekends. Book ahead to ensure your seat. Wonderful front of house catering.
M.
Another amazing Wellington movie theatre. Much more cozy atmosphere with smaller screens. Choice of hot foods and coffee to take inside. They do launch events every so often too with author / director Q&A in the theatre
J.
Adorable little independent cinema! Beautiful inside - comfortable couches, polite staff, great sound and screen. Absolutely perfect for a date.
J.
One of my favorite places to watch a movie great selection and always runs the less well known movies for longer than other places I like the double couches too very comfy. Haven't had a bad experience yet
e.
Most intimate cinematic experience in Wellington city with cafe - also close to vibrant Cuba St with plenty more cafes and restaurants. Excellent movie selections - no blockbusters.
D.
Great selection of Hollywood, UK and festival movies. Comfortable couches
M.
Good staff. Summer of Soul-which I knew nothing about was excellent.
J.
Great local movie theatre. We often use it for a location for our charity movie fundraisers ... staff always helpful and friendly.
J.
Love this little boutique theatre. Hidden from sight, it is worth finding. An intimate setting fitted out with comfortable couches in the auditoria. This theatre plays a range of films from mainstream to more independant.
G.
I often go to this theatre as it has great selection of movies and fantastic cinemas.Very good coffee ,food ,ice cream ,water, glasses .No plastic!!!!Lovely people and loyalty cards.
There are 3 in Wellington area.
R.
Iconic boutique high end cinema tucked away in Wigan Street - parking can be a bit tricky at times but doesn't detract from the wonderful experience you get when entering this beautifully appointed theatre - great food, drinks, staff wonderful, theatres have wonderfully cosy couch seats and cushions, great screen and sound system - there are no bad seats as each theatre is thoughtfully laid out with plenty of leg room and height separation so that no matter where you sit you seem to be fully immersed in the screen - always an interesting and great balance of movies to see - don't forget to book early as this is a very popular theatre for good reason.
M.
Live music, great atmosphere and food
E.
Beautiful little boutique cinema with extremely comfortable seats. The perfect place to cuddle with your honey since the seats are generally situated in pairs like a sofa.
J.
Great cinema 🎥 its all here
S.
Really nice vibe. Cosy cinema.
T.
This is a great little cinema with a sophisticated relaxed vibe for a quiet low key movie experience when you’d rather avoid the hordes and instead relax back with a coffee or wine on a comfortable sofa in one of their boutique movie theatres.
S.
Cutest little theatre ever. Be sure to check that seating is available ahead of time as the seating is pretty limited, but it's worth it for the atmosphere.
M.
Funky little movie theatre, a special little place. A good array of refreshments.
N.
Comfortable sofas but Cinema 1 shows movies in only 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the cinematic 21:9. Not sure about the other screens
S.
I like the intimacy of these cinemas you just have to be careful not to get a seat at the end of the curved rows. Staff are helpful and friendly and you are always treated with the utmost respect.
M.
LHC is a small venue housing three, cosy cinemas with sofa seating. Take your coffee, wine or ice-cream with you into the movie room. There may just be room for that glass as the wooden arm-rests are very wide. Acoustics and screens are fine and so is the service and other facilities.
It is located in Wigan Street (off upper Cuba Street) or take the super shortcut by walking through the alleyway beside Victoria University's School of Architecture and Design (large, raised, red building) from Vivian Street into Wigan Street. This shortcut might not look appealing in the pic but in the daytime it is fine and quite busy (connects to CQ Hotel lane).
Landmarks: You know you've arrived when you see 2 period houses on one side of Wigan Street corner and a tall, red-muralled building located opposite. This is next door to LHC.
G.
Nice small picture theater and most comfortable chairs, also usually got all new releases
Á.
A cosy small cinema with great local and international selection of movies. Double seats are ideal for couples. Along with the cafe, it also has a nice upstairs lounge.
L.
Down to Wellington from Tauranga for WOW and came across the Lighthouse Cinema and Havana Bar across the road. A double blessing.
Love Lighthouse. Cosy, helpful friendly staff - very relaxing. Unique with its double couches and cushions. Well done.
S.
Lovely little cinema. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. The cinema seats are cute and cosy sofa style.
L.
If you are over the huge cineplex theatre experience you will fall in love with the intimate appeal of Light House cinemas. Small theatres and warm cosy atmospheres will have you fall in love with the movie going experience again.
S.
Cute small cinema with sofas
D.
Wanting a intimate movie experience? This is the place to go with their couch like seating you can cuddle up or spread out making for a unmatched viewing experience.
G.
Nicest boutique cinema I have visited. Comfy seating and lovely coffee, drinks and food available with friendly staff. Great value on Mondays
S.
Awesome cinema with great staff! Love the met opera screenings, comfy couches, decent craft beer....
W.
Good quality movies, spacious seats and delicious wine. Perfect combo!
M.
Light House Cuba is where we hold our Wellington Timebank movie fundraisers. We have found staff to be more than accommodating of our requests. We choose a theatre size & pay for the seats we sell. There's an upstairs area that we hold a wee function beforehand.
T.
large cinema with comfy chairs and elevated positions. they don't serve popcorn tho :((
S.
Awesome little cinema. The seats are two seater couches- very comfy and lots of space for snacks and drinks too.
D.
An amazing place. Never sat in a cinema like this before.
B.
Awesome little boutique theatre, comfy seats, spacious legroom and a great line up of films to go and see. Even better on Tuesday's where tickets are only $11 each!
A.
Lovely little cinema/theatre with comfy sofa seats. Cool vibe and the staff are great.
P.
Will be nice to have more tables and chairs but otherwise it's all good. Inside the theatre was very roomy and comfortable.
G.
Delicious pie. Nice rose. Very comfy movie seats. Friendly helpful staff. Parking is the only challenge.
N.
Fantastic boutique cinema experience. You can have your ice cream and wine when you go to the movies at Lighthouse Cuba. Parking is a challenge so consider public transport.
E.
Great little cinema, tickets well priced
C.
small cinema, disliked the seating was weird sitting next to someone on a couch, L & P bottle was $5. Solid 3 stars.
S.
Great staff, loves the cinema, warm and comfy
W.
Rocket Man was on the cards tonight and boy, that was the last thing me and my wife Ngaire were talking about on the drive home. For many years, I have been searching for a coffee that rivaled my Bubushkas's flayt white on a cool couple months before winters evening, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. After the lovely man at the counter and Ngaire organised our seats, I ordered a flat white. The lovely man then proceeded to pull me in and say "stick with me cuz, you might learn something". He then made a coffee that Bubushka would have cried the tears of the Urals over. It was the fern, it was the brew, and it was the gentle smile that brought me back to the old country.
Would give 6/5, but Google won't allow it :(
C.
This was a nice experience because there are pillows provided to smother friends and family. I highly reccomend this theater. Would smother again.
P.
Great customer service and mo ie selection with comfy seats and awesome sound
E.
Love this wonderful cinema. Love being able to watch a movie with a pot of tea whilst sitting on a two seater sofa. Often show documentaries
L.
This is a fun place to watch movies with some good food options, smaller cinemas and couches. Slightly more focus independent type movies although the mainstream still feature
G.
Lovely theatre, and the black doris plum ice cream is delish!
D.
Relaxed, friendly, small theatres, comfortable seating
A.
I love this theater. Nice sofas for couple movie, enough space for the legs, and i love the "cine quizz" idea before the movie
G.
First time there. Booked a small theatre for a work do. Had bubbles and nibbles on the mezzanine then ushered into the cinema. Had a really good time. Swanky place, friendly staff.
d.
good little boutique cinema, the seats are mini sofas and seat two people, all have cushions. though they are a little uncomfortable for a long film.
H.
I always go to the light house for movies. It screens good movies. I love its seating and atmosphere; having a glass of wine while watching movies.
A.
Really cute cinema in a little street off Cuba st.
The movie rooms are little which is nice but I highly recommend to book especially if you planning to come on Saturday.
E.
Always love coming to Lighthouse. A great theater but wish they had popcorn! Movies without popcorn aren't quite the same!
H.
Great boutique theatre. Ideal for a visit on a rainy day. You can also buy a coffee or wine and food.
M.
My favourite cinema! Cheap every monday!
R.
Good coffee, great films and comfy seats, and so close to Cuba St. Perfect for filmlovers and films for lovers 😊
L.
Great cinema with cosy seats. Perfect for fund raising shows and corporate events.
B.
Nice small theatre showing Rialto type movies. A little gem in a big city.
C.
Awesome wee place. Much comfier than any cinema we have been to previous. Highly recommend
R.
Nice boutique movie theater, however the two seater couches are not comfortable as they sink to the middle and it gets too cosy when you are sitting next to a stranger, this distracts from the movie.
o.
Very nice place, with good seating too.
R.
Cool cinema. Had a nice cup of tea there too
T.
Friendly but busy foyer and screen a bit too small, but great seating designs.
A.
A really small cinema, but the atmosphere is great. There is no popcorn, but the double seats are cool and cosy! :)
M.
Relaxing place, nice staff!
刘.
