Perfect set up for a family of 5. We splashed out and had three family surf lessons with Cal, who was great at managing two kids, and one big kid, at once. Cal was patient, kind and fun. Everyone was up on the first day. Acommodation is clean, spacious and great value for money. Highly recommend anyone that is thinking of staying and surfing - do both!!

Top notch surf lessons! We purchased some surf lessons for our 11 year old daughter for Christmas and she loved every minute she was on the water with her instructor Callan. He was calm, relaxed and had a really great way of connecting with her and adapting his teaching style to suit her. Needless to say, she was up after 2 lessons and enjoyed her time on the waves! Very thankful to Callan for teaching our girl to surf!

Super chill and friendly vibe. Mauro and Kat are very welcoming and accomodating. Excellent surf lessons, very comprehensive; film analysis and surf-skate lessons included. I stayed up stairs in a private room which was lovely, everything was super clean and tidy, and the living area was great. Met some really cool solo travellers on the first night and made a bit of a crew and cruised down to the local yoga studio. Will definitely go back for another surf trip one day!

Great stay here over 3 nights, coupled with lessons with Mauro. Kat and Mauro are great hosts and the place is well set up, good sized rooms (I was in estuary room) always kept super clean and tidy ... perfectly located for hitting the beach. Thanks for the stay guys and the patience in the lessons :) look forward to coming back one day soon

Fantastic place - super friendly and helpful management, even rearranging our stay because the surf forecast didn't look great. Highly recommend the surf and yoga package. The hostel is super clean and more like a house share than a hostel - really nice chilled vibe and we felt very at home. Surf lessons were also excellent - Chris in particular was superb and we really improved during our lessons with him. To top it all the yoga lessons with Sara were brilliant - tuned to how our bodies were feeling after a few days surfing.

We primarily visited this hostel to rent some boards to hit the waves. While the waves were straight up fire, the hostel owners made our visit even more enjoyable. From reasonable prices, tips/suggestions, use of the HOT showers, excellent surfing equipment....we quite enjoyed the experience!

I had a wonderful time at SURF N STAY and even extended my stay. The camp is a lovely peaceful place close to the beach. <br/>The surf lessons were amazing because of that American dude and his positive vibes. I felt safe and learned something new every day. I also really enjoyed the yoga lessons in the evening. Thank you lovely for giving me a first impression of yoga. I am still practicing :)<br/>I hope there will be the chance to come back next summer for a little bit more surfing!

Awesome accomodation. Very cozy and positive vibe, we stayed one night, everything was very clean and WiFi also works pretty well. Also the self check in is very simple and well organised. Katrina looked after us, and she's been extremely kind and helpful.

Me and my 3 mates had sent a mission to whangamata to go surf 1/2 foot bar, unfortunately my poor board couldn’t hold up or get any waves, but the superiority of this hostel had made up for me not getting any waves. It is very clean, the hosts are a bunch of legends, it is right next to the beach, and good vibes all around. Thank you guys!

Amazing place. Fantastic all inclusive stay-cay. The guests I was sharing with were super noisy very early and very late... nothing to do with the management. Its a game of chance who you end up staying with.

Surf n stay has been a wonderful hostel experience! The staff are very welcoming and the friendliest of company. Wide variety of people passing through, not just a place for surfers but if you are interested in gaining experience on the water the owners are very knowledgable and great teachers. We did a kayak trip to donut island that was beyond expectations ! And we surfed everyday for over a week, the waves are very consistent. Breakfast in the morning is great, toast n eggs, pancakes or French toast. One of few hostels that provide a little grub! Whangamata is a definite stop anytime we're on the Coromandel peninsula. Thanks surf n stay for an awesome time!

This place is always really clean! The staff are really relaxed and friendly. I LOVE this hostel. They have great volunteer opportunities as well as great prices for rentals (go kayaking to donut island-it's beautiful) ALSO FREE BREAKFAST💕

The Beds are alright, the kitchen was little bit dirty but was cleaned everyday. Overall its a average hostel but, you have the beautiful sea only 2 minutes walk away and can rent a surfboard plus wetsuit for cheap.

Perfect hostel and surf camp with qualified instructors, or try surfing the Whanga bar. We took a kayak to Donut Island, to see the blue lagoon inside. Wow. Others were on Stand Up paddle boards. All good quality equipment is for hire here

Last year the service from reception was non existent but this year! They have refurbed the rooms and common areas got in fresh, professional and super helpful staff. I was very happy with the location, price and service

OMG! Can not recommend this place enough! The staff their are super accommodating and make you feel like your home. Their team comes from all walks of life so definitely sit down and have a drink with them, listen and chat because their stories are incredible. The facilities were beyond my expectations for a placed shared by many others. Am coming back to stay there when I revisit Whangamata.

Fantastic stay. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Rooms were comfy and clean. Couldn't ask for a better place to kick back and catch some waves.

So nice staff! We took an awesome lesson with Chris. Me and my dad (65) have never surfed before and stood on the board. Can really recommend!

Great atmosphere! Will give you the right surf/beach vibes. Really close to the beach and not far from the city centre

Went kayaking to donut Island which is clearly a jowel not to miss if you are around Whangamata! Recommend 100%

Very nice place to meet nice people, and hire good equipment to enjoy the waves just accross the street. The owners are easy going and available, they will do what is necessary so you can enjoy your time there. Thank you!

Great place to learn how to surf. Friendly, helpful owners who give you great advice about surfing, SUPing and kayaking in the area.

It has already been 2 years that I have been to this beautiful place. But I was just so happy to be there and can still remember that so well.. Such a lovely place and owners :)) Would always love to go back there.
