Good spot for surfers. Limited parking space. View is breathtaking but hardly and trees to provide shade. This place is also a historical place for NZ military airforce

Lovely beach to go for a walk, went for a walk lots of bird life running around, and stuff on the beach to look at. There are quite a few shady spots along the beach to sit and watch the ocean. Will definitely be back for a stroll really great view walking to the top of the dune.

Nice afternoon drive out to Ocean Beach. Walking 🚶‍♀️ long the beach and up sand dunes.

At the end of a wonderful drive that has so many beautiful beaches, Ocean Beach is an almost perfect beach. Lots of carparks, and toilets,the beach is a short walk from the carpark, to a perfect white sandy surf beach, with dunes, rocks, surf, swimming and not many people. Head to the north end of the beach and up and over the dunes (which has to be descended at speed) to the second half of the beach which is as beautiful as first. Must visit if you are in Whangarei.

Nice beach to have a stroll and swim with. The toilets were dirty though.

This is a really nice beach for walks. It's not crowded at all and has some beautiful views (as seen in the pictures - though those hardly do it justice). The water here is extremely clear. There are lifeguards here as well to keep you safe if you want to swim.

Top location and not yet spoilt by thousands of visitors. The ocean swim and surfing is for good swimmers who can sort out rips and survive in the surf and good swell. Note no life savers patrol this beach in winter months.

Nice beach, not crowded when we went here.. Very relaxing and peaceful.. Great place to just enjoy, listen to the waves and just breath.. 😍😍😍 I Also enjoyed the soft white sand.. my son loves playing on the sand.. lovely! 😍

Amazing beach! To relax and to surf too. Lota of walks to do around there. Beautiful nature, birds everywhere. Also if you go up to the mount you can check the sunset or sunrise if you’re early bird. Even if you want to go for a couple of hours or to spend the whole day, this is the perfect spot.

One of the most beautiful white sand beaches I’ve been to in NZ! Popular surf spot, great sets coming in. Make sure to climb the dunes on the far left side to discover the amazing views of another hidden beach!

Great beach and the starting/ending point of the breathtaking Te Whara hiking trail. Bring your swimming gear. You will be amazed how great a dip in the ocean feels after that challenging hike :)

Great waves and soft white sand. Note that there isn’t much cover so bring an umbrella or set up ac tent by the beach. Life guards are present and on site.

A very beautiful beach with high waves. Therefore, you regularly encounter surfers. Not really a beach to go swimming with little children. Lovely to walk, and then feel the wind and sea in your face.

Very Beautiful from the Top hill, but the car park available at the bottom of the hill as the access to the beach (quite far to walk)

Amazing beach with surfable waves. Open to a lot of swells. Super soft sand, a fun sand dune at the north end and epic walking trail at the south end. Get there for sunrise!

Coming down the hill to the parking area with Ocean beach right in front is always Awesum..the turquoise surf,sand n rocks love it every time..

For those with children. Great place presuming conditions are right (not to high swells, high tide, guards out, weather mint and not much wind). Toilets at the carpark. Walk is 10-15min to beach on sand and almost flat. Beach is stunning!! Lots of room and not too many pepz. Take some form of shade and lots of sunblock. Not ideal for young children to swim without adult going in. But aint much work taking my 2yo in for a dip and a kick at the waves.

Beautiful beach! We have spent many days of our travels to New Zealand here at this beach and would recommend others to do so too as it was one of the nicest beaches we have seen! We loved the beach that much that we actually got engaged here! As you walk onto the beach take a right and walk to the large rocks, there's a small more private beach area over the rocks if you go at low tide leading up to high tide. At low tide you can walk all the way down and around to even more beach that is just as beautiful! There seems to be a gathering of penguins here too! Be careful swimming here though as there is a large rip. Weekends they have lifeguards there so no need to worry. (We visited between November and March) There are two large car parking areas and even 4 or so spaces to camp in your van. The toilets are still only portaloos but they are not the worst I have seen by far. Check it out and enjoy! :)

Absolutely stunning beach. Big waves, good for surfing. Only has Life savers there for a short time in summer, sometimes only at weekends. No facilities except a toilet. A long way from refreshments, bring your own. No rubbish bins either. Very clean. I highly recommended this as a must visit if you are visiting Whangarei. Go to the left at the beach to the top of the sand dunes where there are awesome views. The beach goes for miles!

Stunning northland beach, crystal clear waters, amazing views down the coast. So many beautiful scenic walks to choose from. I have seen dolphins on many occasions visiting this beach. Great for surfing and on particular tides lovely rock pools for the kids to swim in. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months. The surrounding Bream Head reserve is full of kiwi and other native birds. You wont regret a visit to this awesome part of the country.

Great Freedom Camping spot. If you’re self contained you can stay in the grassy overflow car park! Had a lovely night here and would recommend!

Nice beach, further out of town then others so an enjoyable drive also. Camping allowed for 1 night, toilets available but no drinking water. No rubbish bins, all rubbish to be taken away with you. Nice walk to secluded Beach ares.

It is a beach for surfing at intermediate level. Waves quite big and strong .there are some dunes near by and white sand .few people

Stunning beach well worth the visit and will go anytime again. An amazing place when not many people do very quiet. Stunning views when you climb up. Be ready to spend some time as the views are just stunning and relaxing. Highly recommended for everyone

Magic spot. Very white sand, clear water and old surf. A classic little Bach community too.

Amazing beach. Wide shore, long as and stretches out for ages. White sands. There's fancy marble-walled interior and wooden exterior decorated toilets at the entrance/carpark. Beach is about a 5 min walk from carpark to the actual sandy part. Path has some large gravel so may be a little difficult to walk in jandals. Waves can be quite big, and because the beach is so exposed and flat, it can get quite windy with sand blowing everywhere. The sand dunes are really neat but take care not to climb over them and respect the signs. Water is so clear and so is the wildlife. Bring your own picnic, but make sure to take your rubbish home with you.

One of the best beaches in NZ. Can have amazing surf. It doesn't get big crowds and there are some great walks nearby.

Wonderful place to relax and walk by the ocean. Water was cold in November yet there were a few people swimming and surfing. Also a good starting point to hike Te Whara.

Very nice beach ! The departure or arrival for the hike : Te whara track. The hike will offer you a great view of all around. Do not miss it :)

Is a surf beach ive enjoyed many times in the past. During summer is patrolled by life guards so fairly safe.

Very remotely beach nested down in a bay below the Whangarei heads. If you are looking for a canpsite over there I can recommend the grassy area a litrle up the hill, beyond the carparka with toilets, where actually the coast guard club house is.
