A moderately challenging hour's hike from the beachside car park to the top. Great views. Vegetation changes from pine to grassy hill to rain forest before emerging among the clouds at the rocky summit.

100% worth it. Not a super hard walk, though recommend gripped shoes as parts are a little muddy. Started at Peach Cove Carpark and means you finish at Ocean beach for coastal views and maybe even a quick dip. The 360 view is worth the little bouldering, take care if a wet day. Takes about 1hr 30-45 to get to the top.

Incredible 360 views from the top of the rock on top of the Mountain. 1h30min to get to that point. TOTALLY WORTH IT. The track is not hard, but closer to the top you'll find a few steps that can make you sweat a lot 😆😆 Take your time, bring at least 02 small bottles of water (per person) and you'll be fine.

One of the best hikes to do in the Northland region. 1200 steps right in the beginning, with a view well worth the climb! Go on a clear day to make the most of the view from the top. Takes around 5 hours.

Well worth the calf burn the next day, I was surprised by how many native birds I heard a saw along the trail and lookout. I even heard and saw a kaka in the distance. Probably the best hike In the northland region for me.

This hike is spectacular - extremely hard, but gorgeous nonetheless. The trails goes up for a long time and don't expect switchbacks, it's just straight up. I didn't complete the whole trail due to time, I stopped at the picnic table that was at the top of the hill. The views of the ocean and the surrounding area are truly incredible throughout the hike and definitely worth the time and exertion. I even saw a really beautiful bird in the forest.

Very very Streep and Challenging.. NOT for the unfit... Steps are around an average of 55 degree ascent incline.. and it's one of the most challenging I have done. We ran walked crawled the WILD KIWI event with 400 others... 5 hrs... over 1600metres of climb descent.... Body hurts for 6 days...

Super deep walk and there's no sign when you reached the lookout, the lookout is a giant rock, you need to climb on to see the view, overall it's a good walk!

Onw of the best day trek in Northland with breathtaking views.
Quite steep and going up is one hard task!
G.
Breathtaking and gruelling. Be fit and well prepared to hike this track. So worth it though

Too pretty, steep up and down, you will work at it, but super rewarding
V.
Tough track, stunning views. Lots of steps.

Would recommend for people that have some type of athletic ability.

One hell of a climb, challenging terrain, but so will worth it
T.
Awesome trail, lots of stairs, lovely viewed
R.
Great trail with lovely views, pretty steep in places but very rewarding and worth the effort

This is a high demand walk but the reward at the end is incredible. Beautiful native bush and birdlife in the second half of this track take you to another world outside everyday life. There are a couple of rest stops about halfway including a picnic table and a shaded bench seat a little further along. The tracks including timber stairs are well maintained which create a clear path to the top. Views from the top are incredible, photos will never do the atmosphere justice.

One of the great walks

Great track. Might be a bit challenging going up, but it absolutely worth it. Incredible view from the highest point of the peninsula.

My thighs and calves burned like hell but the view was great and rewarding right until the part when I realized that I'm terrified of heights and promptly made my way back down. Would recommend for fitter people though
T.
Beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and a fun scramble at the summit. 360 degree views for a long ways on a clear day. Out and back to Te Whara summit takes about 2 hours.
H.
Breath taking experience if you have the courage to climb up to the summit 💪
a.
A great walk with great views.

Greate walk, I hope no more steps get added, love the rough track with mud and roots...and the view from the top!

(Translated) A very strenuous but beautiful hike on the North Island. Rather unknown and therefore little going on. One should hike from east to west so that one cannot climb the endless steps on the side of Smugglers Bay but rather descend it. Then back the road and spend the night at the Ocean Beach Carpark. There are places for Freedom Camping and the beach is only a few meters away.

(Translated) Very nice track, very uneven a little slip in the rain, but the view is worth it.

Très jolie piste, fort dénivelé un peu glissa t sous la pluie, mais la vue vaut le coup.
