The food was over priced and bland.
$19 for 3 small tacos, no lettuce, no guac, no cheese, no tomato, no onions, no salsa, no sour cream. It had picked vegetables meat and a piece of coriander instead.
Empanadas were ok at best.
$28 burrito that came with unripened avocado and same bland beef.
6pm and it was busy with people drinking delicious beer but hardly anyone eating. They knew something I didn't.

L.Probably my favourite NZ brewer and now they have an Auckland outpost where there are around 20 beers on tap and some rather tasty food options. I opted for the tasting paddle to sample a few of the brews on offer. My favourite was the Behemoth Stay-cation Hazy IPA, which was so juicy. The taps change regularly and Behemoth frequently creates new beers, so each visit is a taste adventure.
This was our first visit after the full kitchen opened and I was eager to test the menu. Partnership with A Lady Butcher means this is a great place for meat-lovers. I chose the roast beef sandwich, which was so good. My husband had order envy. His burger was good, but apparently needed seasoning. We didn’t realise the meals came with fries so ordered tater tots as well. They the best with creamy potato filling and a slight bite.
We’ll be back to continue working our way through the 20 taps and trying the new options.

A.Omg check out all the beers! This is behemoth's home base, and the beer range has to be seen to be believed. Fruity, sour, trendy, pale ales, even a lager if you hunt it out. Surprisingly fancy food offering too, and a nice covered outdoor area for getting some air with your beer.

P.Alright, here we go. Just left Churly’s happy and satisfied. If you look at my reviews from other places, you’ll probably notice a pattern... only 5 star ones and the occasional 4 star (which still is absolutely worth a visit). In other words, I only extremely rarely slag a place off and only post a review if I like it. Which brings me back to the topic. 5 stars for Churly’s after my first visit.
The menu fits on two small pages, but this is actually really positive. I’d rather have only a few choices, but really good ones. And I promise, just reading the menu will make your mouth water. What you see in the photo is some unusual but very tasty “Katsu style” Wagyu beef with potato wedges in the background. If you like Wagyu, I highly recommend you try it.
We gave a few different beers a go and none of them disappointed. My favourite of the evening was the “Lid Ripper” of which I took a 2 litre bottle away for office beer-o’clock tomorrow (a Friday).
Conclusion... super nice staff, nice location, indoor and covered outdoor seating, great product. A sure recipe for “I’ll visit again”.
Update #1 (after 22/04/21 visit): I‘ll keep this one brief... great atmosphere again, more delicious beers and we were amazed by the food (sorry, forgot to take pictures). Tacos, pork with fermented blueberries, the croquettes, gnocchis and the empanadas. Sooo good! 😋 Thanks Team Churly’s!

M.Been a big fan of Behemoth for a while now so was excited to try out the new pub.
24 of their own beers on tap, and even more available as cans. Some real heavy hitters and delicious hop heavy IPAs. There is only 1 beer under 5%, so maybe not a great place to be the designated driver. The menu looked great, heavily influenced by The Lady Butcher, and all the food we had was fantastic. We will be back!

O.Come here for the beers. First time getting food and it was a little disappointing and very expensive for what it was. Service was great though, so nice having table service. Not too busy so felt well catered for.

S.LOVE coming to Churly's. The staff are so kind and welcoming, the beer is incredible and the food is out of this world. The staff gave us a gift of some rosemary almonds which was such a kind gesture. I hope these guys are around for a while because we love coming here and plan to make it our regular. J.Picked up a couple of 2L bottles from the crew down in Dom rd, absolutely worth the trip down from Red Beach. Customer service was fantastic, and the beers are even better, that cucumber pilsner has been perfect for a Friday afternoon, and the Jam donut sour has gone down an absolute treat. Behemoth never fails to deliver great beers.

K.Can't go wrong with Behemoth, love the Hazy range. I feel bad giving three stars as the food really brings the whole experience down. The Beef is so bad that it should be taken off the menu. It's a schnitzel which the menu doesn't even say, plus a deep fried one with no taste.

The food is amazing with the meat platter or the rare burger, the meat is on point.
This is one of the best places to try real beer and one of the most amazing places to have proper prepared meat.
Definitely a stop on the Auckland beer map.

P.What a great local pub!
Went to visit because of the toastie takeover and not only found that their toasted sandwich was amazing but that it was a neat little spot too. They have a huge list of beers, great recommendations, lovely staff and a great atmosphere. Lots of tables but did not have that overcrowded feel. :)
T.Absolutely sensational beer and food. HOWEVER, we are a regular for beer tasting paddles and they come in a bit expensive at $30... Love their beers to much to just have one.. (Would be six stars if they could make the tasters a bit more affordable)
P.A great spot to find a beer for every taste. With the amount of taps of beers with great names to put a smile on your face. Worth a look when you do love a good beer. Next time will get stuck into the food menu too

N.Went to this pub a few times now and have been really impressed. Super friendly staff and an endless variety of beers to try. Burger was super delicious and was also blown away by the barrel aged snow mexican. Really impressive. Had to take a nap after haha. Thanks for opening such a great pub!

Thanks for the info back, that's fair enough for the meat.... So what's the story with the beatroot, I'm sorry but that really was a joke. and other bars in the area have to pay for logistics and mark up from the brewerys, this you should be slightly less the local bars.
M.The first review! What a place, love it already and immediately know it is now my "local". It has that vibe. I also live walking distance away which may be a factor.
Attentive staff and despite covid restrictions its bustling in this breezy wee space. They're turning eager folks away!
Andrew and the Lady Butcher have done a stunning job on the fit out, just in time for summer, and I'm sure with their quirky flair and eye for detail, it will be a roaring success. Just what all those thirsty churholder want, nay, deserve.

J.It’s allright. Good beer, easy to reach by bicycle but it’s a bit of a warehouse. They didn’t really think about creating a nice atmosphere inside. Not sure, if I would go back.
