A group of us booked a few days earlier for the NFL. The staff were extremely accommodating with getting us set up in a prime spot, along with having the commentary playing as well. Overall a great experience, tasty food and plenty of beer.

Great food, tastes high quality and very flavorful. Service is very good, waiters are quite attentive and friendly. Nothing to complain about here, they also have a good selection of beers.

Nice decor but can be very echo'ie so don't go if you need a chat - you'll be yelling at each other to hear. The deck is lovely if you can get a table.

Fabulous pub overlooking the city. Located on college hill and ponsby street. Great food. Good beer and prices. Locals pub.

Went here for lunch and a function once. Nice bar and decor with popular food options. Most of us had burgers or the chicken waffles. Service is friendly and attentive even though it gets crazy busy and loud. Great place to just get drinks after work.

Visited last weekend and had a great experience! The food was fantastic and the service exemplary! Staff were helpful and attentive and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and their recommendations were certainly reliable. The food was true gastro-pub fare - reliably "pub", but with some fantastic "gastro" thrown in. The "Best Bits" platter was a real hit (especially the prawns!). Couldn't have been happier! Congrats to your staff!

Good food, try their southern fried chicken or fish tacos. They're really good. Be warned, it gets really busy during dinner time especially on Thursdays and Fridays from office crowds.

Hearty food with generous portion sizes, particularly the sharing platter. Fine selection of wines and even finer staff with superb customer service. Piera served our food/drinks and she was very attentive and hospitable throughout our visit. Thank you!

Real boys pub but great pub. The corn mash is not corn it's just potato mash with a few bits of corn in it that's my only gripe. Rest of food was good pub food. They have a great outdoor area as well.

The Cav is one terrific surprise. 19th century inner city street front. 21st century interior. Super staff, friendly and welcoming. Fun gastropub food. Superb selection of tap beers. Recommended to visitors and locals both. A fun place to watch sports broadcasts. By the way the Cav is not in any way a "real boy's club" as another review mentions.

The Cav is a great inner city spot for catching up with friends. It's just up the road for me so I Iike coming here for a drink and to watch sports occasionally. The staff are friendly and attentive. My main reason for a 3 star review is that their portion sizes are quite small compared to how much you're paying. The quality is fine but I paid $28 for a chicken schnitzel and potato salad that was not particularly filling. Pub food is generally quite hearty and I didn't get that vibe here based on what my friends ordered. Credit to them for having a diverse menu, however. They also add on a surcharge for Paywave transactions. While I appreciate that small businesses need to recover these costs, for a popular and bustling institution that gets quite a bit of custom, it's a bit cheeky to ask them to cover what is essentially an admin expense. It just feels like lately, the goodwill of customers is being taken advantage of.

The food was so good and the service was even better. So attentive but not over the top. We had cauli tacos, pork tacos, steak, chicken burger and kumara burger. Couldn't fault any of it. Every dish looked amazing and filled us all!!

Always a really friendly team, have never encountered a surly bar person here ever. Lots of options for seating, out on the deck for views of the Sky Tower and city, in the cosy snug for a quiet chat or in the main bar area to watch sport on the big screen tvs. Not quite certain the food lives up to it's 'gastro' expectations but decent enough bar food from the meals we've tried.

Very expensive food menu for a sports bar... awkward location halfway between Ponsonby and the Viaduct all by it's lonesome... nice interior for meeting up with friends... not my favourite bar.

Dropped in here for lunch with colleagues. The Cav (as it is now called) is in the beautiful, upmarket neighbourhood of Ponsonby. It has a beautiful and bright dining room which opens up to a amazing deck. We preferred to sit on the deck as it was nice and sunny outside. Our server was really sweet. I ordered the Naked Burrito while my colleagues ordered the Tuna Poke and Fish Taco. The presentation of the food was just gorgeous. And it tasted as good as it looked. Would love to come back here for a drink and dinner in the evening with my partner.

Fantastic gastropub in a charming heritage building. Large menu, meals are generous & super tasty with attentive service. Lovely view from the deck in summer & nice and cozy inside in winter. Highly recommend

Still has a pub feel but it's more gastro than traditional these days, so not much atmosphere. Expensive menu for what it is, with lots of options for meat eaters. At times NO vegetarian mains only versions without the meat (eg salad in burger buns). See the pic of the menu I posted. Good for watching sport - a lot of large TVs, and there is one small fireplace if you're lucky enough to score a seat in front of it. Large outdoor deck for smokers.

Staff are really friendly and food was excellent. The girl was very patient with me when I was paying as I kept entering the wrong account type. Overall this was an excellent experience and the place is super clean too which is a big bonus.

It's had a face-lift and is a great place for a casual meal and a drink. They also have a great beer menu, bonus!

Nice place to relax after a days work and enjoy an awesome array of beers both on tap or by bottle then treat yourself to a delicious meal and a scummy dessert. Can't recommend more the desserts. Will be back 😀

I have not visit the cav in a few years. Still the great bar it was when i was last here with a fun atmosphere, well kept bar, friendly staff. I have not eatten here in years but will be keen to call again for food.

Pleasant enough pub/bar with fair food and good range of beers. However, lots of sports tellys (generally on quiet though) so if that's not your thing, steer clear.

Always have an awesome time at The Cav, whether for the UFC or just to grab a bite to eat. Staff are amazing even when it's packed. Def recommend a visit 🙂

WOW! What a stunning venue. The service 5 /5. The team were friendly, quick and knowledgeable. As for the food, 10/10 to the chef. The meals came out within 20 minutes of placing our order and it is great value for money. Perfect place to meet for a drink, watch a game or go on a date. I will be back often!

Large pub on College Hill Road, one of the bar opens on to a large decked address. Nice indoor and outdoor flow , good views and sunshine, what more could you want. With alcohol and food available you have the making of a lovely afternoon. Fairly busy when, I visited so must be popular with the locals.

Good food and a great venue, with a large deck overlooking the city skyline. Inside the floors are polished so it can get really noisy and hard to hear someone sitting close to you. Their wine list needs work but hey, it's a pub!

Excellent venue for watching sports in a pub setting. Seating bot indoors and outdoors. Menu has been fantastic over the last 4 years or so. Southern fried chicken with hot buffalo sauce. Have to try this or the full chicken on its own not in a burger. Little creatures on tap. Have been a regular every Friday lunch time for years. You will enjoy yourself.

Great table service, great menu - you can even get crayfish and it doen't cost your right arm. Every kind of bar seating you'd want, filled with good American vibes, multiple screens around the place which plays all the sport you want. Great place to meet up with mates before hitting the town or coworkers after a long week of boring work

I went along with my friend David after our Starjam event for the first time.. Woahhh I loved the energy and the view of the sky tower and the moon was amazing. The bouncers and the staff were very friendly and I enjoyed my time there.. It was pretty crowded for a Saturday night.. Loved it.

Wonderful Xmas lunch

I wouldn't recommend the Cav if you're hungry. Although the food was some of the best we've eaten in a pub, it was barely enough to fill us both up. We needed to stop off at a fast food joint on the way home to fill the gap.

Pretty good meals. Nice how they do a Roast of the Day on Sundays. The kids meals are great. They are served in a bento box style with your choice of main plus chips plus carrot and celery sticks and an ice cream cone for you to take to the self service soft serve ice cream machine. You can choose vanilla or chocolate ice cream. Good sports bar, outside area and pokie machine area.

My first time at The Cav was during the 2018 NBA Final Series. The place is very spacious and well-lit compared to other pubs I've been to. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. The food and beverages were served within minutes of having me and my brother's orders taken (both of which were well-prepared in quality and quantity). All of this made for an easy, relaxed atmosphere, which I don't find in most pubs. I felt comfortable as I was and enjoyed watching the games. I'll definitely come back here for sure.

Beautiful deck with Sky tower view

The Cav is essentially a sports bar with a city view of Auckland. As a place to watch the NBA finals it’s a winner due to the amount of screens that allow you to watch the game from pretty much anywhere in the venue. While it would have been great to hear the commentary alongside the games, the playlist of classic rock tracks was enjoyable enough if a little over-bearing on the overall atmosphere of the venue. Staff were polite, and the Southern Fried chicken with Corn Mash was great (few more onion rings wouldn’t go astray). Food was reasonably priced however the beer menu could do with a shake up. For a country with such a vibrant craft beer industry, this is just sort of venue where one would expect to find them being served and while they do serve a beer from Panhead, everything else on the list is less than impressive. When offerings from the likes of: Tuatara, 8 Wired, Garage Project, Sawmill, Epic, Brew Moon, Liberty and Emerson’s are supplied locally, one can’t help but wonder why they serve the swill they do.
