Reviews of Urbanaut Brewery and Tap Room
D.
Loved our visit to Urbanaut. The smashburgers were delicious and it was so great to have vegetarian AND vegan options. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. We took our faithful hound along and he was made very welcome. So cool to have dog-friendly spots around with such a funky set-up and awesome beers and food. Top marks crew!

Our first experience there and we LOVED it ❤ this is a little gem tucked away in Kingsland. The Beer was just the best !! And we got a 6 pack from them too while on our way out. The fries we ordered were amazing. Everything was 10/10 would recommend this place to everyone, you wouldn't regret coming here. The vibe is totally different and me and my husband are definitely coming back. It is going be our favorite. The team are lovely to talk to as well. Thank you so much guys. You guys have nailed it !!
C.
Very cool spot! Smash burgers are a must try, good prices and nice service. Some interesting beers to try as well! Will be back again.
C.
My favourite New Zealand brewery. Classics beers with always a few new experimental brews.
There is a community feel to the tap room, with sofas amongst the vats. The new burger menu is great. We’ve only tried the veggie ones - it’s difficult to make a good veggie burger but these are delicious.
The flights are theoretically 70ml serves but I think they give you more than that. The small serves mean you can try more beers!
N.
Amazing craft beer, best I've had in Auckland. Be mindful, if you're looking for a 'pint' - they can't serve large glasses of beer here, due to their liquor licence, but they sell 8 tasters of 70ml which is plenty and then you can buy to take home (which I always do!). We went on the brewery tour which was a great way to see the whole process. Definitely be going back again soon!

Urbanaut beers has always been on top of my list but their latest change opening a kitchen for lunch and dinner service lifts up their game yet again.
Craft beers and smash burgers omg match made in heaven.
I had a Palomar chilli lager with a smashed Angus burger (double pattie of course) with truffle mascarpone and cured egg yolk. It was amazing.
Staffing very knowledgeable about the beers and products.
Great experience all around 10 out of 10
M.
Now that they've got a full licence (instead of just tasters & takeaways) it's definitely worth a visit. Smash burgers are also excellent.
Funky sofas, good beer and a view of the brewery: what's not to like?
S.
I was here with a few mates to tour their brewery and do some beer tastings. I must say, the staff was absolutely welcoming and was very friendly. The ambience is great and the brewery is clean. The tour flooded us with a lot of brewery knowledge right from the tanks, malt, yeast, fermentation, bottling, canning, labelling and of course beer tastings. They have some amazing beers! We tried some stuff from their fermenting tanks too! :) As it was a Saturday, they had a “Toasted As” Sandwich stall there. These guys were making some yummy gourmet sandwiches! Theses sandwiches were really big and I was struggling to eat the other half. It’s a great spot for a big group or a small group. They have a lot of seat arrangements and huge tables. Would highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again! :) Cheers
A.
Fantastic place, atmosphere and.. beer! Nice burgers, merchandise, service and you can bring your own bottle to fill with tap beer of choice! WoWzers!
M.
Good priced Craft Beer at Urbanaut. Sitting area is cool and around Brewing vets. Taster puddles is great.
I.
GREAT TASTERS AND BEER FRIDGE SELECTION
Urbanaut is a fantastic NZ brewery with delicious beer. We followed the signs into a plain building, walked up the stair and through tge brewery to fing the tap room. Lots of different seating arrangements and can cater to larger groups. There was a food tent on site we we visited but there is also a 'build your own platter' option. They only serve tasters but that's how you can get to enjoy all the beers!
B.
Ahhh... a must on the Craft Beer tour of Auckland. Great range of beer.... a real working brewery!!!!! Lots of shiny stainless steel... 😇
J.
Went for the poutine food truck, stayed for the beer tasting platter. They have some interesting flavors! The Beer Spot is also conveniently across the road too.
L.
My first visit to an eating/drinking establishment since lockdown started and it was a great choice. Super tasty range of beers on tap. While we’re in Level 2, they have two set tasting options with 6 different beers in each set. We got one of each. My favourite was the Yeastie Boys Digital IPA, which I used to drink a few years ago and had forgotten about. The Urbanaut Williamsburg IPA was also near the top of the list.
There’s no served food at the moment, only snack options so a bag of rosemary & thyme kept us happy. They often have a food truck onsite, so we’ll need to come back for that.
A couple of people dropped by for takeaway, but other than that we had the place to ourselves. No worries about physical distancing. The bar area is inside a brewery so you share the space with large tanks. Furnishings remind me of a 70s childhood.
I want to go back. Often.
D.
An airy and workable brewery with a built in tasting room next to the tanks. Draft selection of around a dozen beers was heavy on the IPAs and hazy options. Day I went, the service seemed new, but most of my burning questions were eventually answered. A highlight was a fun Painkilleresque one-off brewed for a local Tiki bar.
You can't (presently) buy a glass of beer here due to NZ's peculiar laws regarding food service, but a sampler and a few cans to go of your favorites are the next best thing. Worth a pop in if you find yourself in the area.
C.
Did a brewery tour here today. Very informative and great host/tour guide. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Great selection of their own craft beers. They have an awesome seating area which allows for plenty of sun while you enjoy your drinks. A great venue to spend an afternoon at. Cheers Urbanaut for a great afternoon.
S.
Best brewery we have been to in New Zealand. Run by kind, funny and truly great people!
Did the brewery tour and had an absolute blast. Amazing beers - great fun! Must go!
L.
Looking for somewhere a little different to go to sample some great beer then this is definitely one of the places to try. Always something new on tap, great sampling paddles so you don't have to choose only one. Plus food trucks on the weekend. Highly recommended this place
M.
Great spot for a quiet one and some lunch. Staff fantastic! Awesome brew and branding!
S.
Great beer, good price for the tasting sets. Cool seating area, surrounded by the brewing vats. Keep in mind not a kitchen, but there is a build your own cheese and meat platter. Super friendly staff - will be back
B.
Apart from the confusing entrance, this place is great. Good selection of beers which you can try them all in just two paddles. Nice little comfy seating area. Lots of cool merch, be sure to grab some!
S.
My local brewery, is great as it has 2 great brewers, Urbanaut and Yeastieboys, and serves samples and take aways. Also at weekends it often has food vendors so it makes it a great place to stop for lunch and a few tasters. Current favourite is a cocacobana Brut IPA
N.
Great place, has lots of good options for all kind of beer. Bar/tap room has a super nice atmosphere to it and all the staff are super nice. Can recommend as a place to catch up with friends and family.
J.
Great brewery. You can still get Yeastie Boys on tap here. Recommend a visit.
S.
Absolutely mind blowing. Had a mare of trying to organise a brewery tour through other providers. Just gave these guys a ring and they told us to just come down and see them. We did. What an experience. The care from the staff and brewers is outstanding. Plus just the acceptance and friendliness is fantastic. Had our tour guide Niko and he is just tops. Such a friendly team and such an environment to be in. Thanks Urbanauts Team! Had a great time celebrated a 30th here!!!!
N.
My favourite local brewery this one and luckily around the inner city there has been an explosion in choice over the last few years. Here you can sample the extensive range of brews, (only sampling platters available not pints), and relax onsite at the brew centre. A great range of excellent beers, which include some guest ones. Check hours of opening as does not run bar "hours".
B.
Delicious Burgers, great beer and awesome service! We will be back!
D.
Interesting beers BUT all craft breweries put way too much hops into the brew. I like Mild Ale, and there's only one craft brewery that makes a Mild. Then there's Brown Ale. N.B. This is nothing like Lion Brown!! Can somebody make this so I can have a pint of Brown 'n mild before I die? I was brought up on this drink in London, and you can't get it there either. Bummer!
M.
I moved here from Denver, Colorado (known for its breweries), so when a friend recommended Urbanaut’s tour, I blew it off for awhile, figuring I’d been on 20 tours before, what else is there to learn. How wrong I was! We came on Valentine’s Day for a tour, and got to walk places and see and touch and smell things a liability waiver would never let you do in the States. Pair that with the 6 full tasters they give you (2 during the tour and then pick your own 4 afterwards). Great history, and once you taste the beer, it’s not surprising that these aren’t just some home brewing rookies who set-up shop.
They have a fun, informal twist on a meat and cheese platter, and plenty of comfy, funky seating. Not as much of a set-up for kids as Brother’s, but there’s a nice park right across the street I ran across to for a quick play with my toddler. Also super happy to see a dog friendly establishment. Dogs and beers just go together in my mind.
Oh! The beer!! Sorry, was just so impressed by the people and the ambiance. I did the tour with my husband, so after 8 beers combined, we can report that all were solid and there wasn’t a single bad pick. Their Copacabana Brut IPA really stood out. I’ve been out of the drinking game for a bit with having a baby and all, so I’m not sure if this is the new thing and I’ve just missed it, but the Apple IPA they brewed with Morningcider blew my mind! We got a couple cans (with Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys for all the Canadian lovers out there!) to take home. Can’t wait to come back and try some of their dark beers this winter.
D.
Incredibly helpful and welcoming staff who know their stuff. I would recommend the tasting tour to people who are new to brewing or craft beer in general. A fascinating low down on the world of small scale craft beer production. The earl grey is my personal favourite!
B.
Work in progress, normally have food truck. Simple seating in the heart of the brewery. Merch on offer, staff friendly. Another stop on the brewery mile.
J.
They hosted a Canadian Day event. The poutine food truck came and it was a perfect complement with the beer selection. I highly recommend it. If you don't like beer, like me, they have a lovely cider and a... Pear sour ale? And a lime ale as well.
S.
Awesome 👌 service and plenty of freshly made beers hit your taste buds.
I.
You can tell they really love what they do! The brewery tour was awesome, Urbanaut did a fantastic job and the staff are really knowledgeable! They have really creative craft beer flavours and I definitely gained more of an appreciation for beer after visiting them so thank you! :)
M.
Just bought the beer blender blood orange ipa and mango mosiac sour amazing. Thank you Dan Murphy's Australia for stocking this. realised while searching for the website to review i was at the brewery last Christmas visiting my family we went to and had the beer flight again all very good.
Thank you and keep up the good work!!!
N.
Delicious locally brewed beer, bursting with flavour. The knowledgeable friendly staff delight in sharing and advising on the newest fresh brews on offer - available as a tasting platter to be enjoyed onsite, or in a plethora of takeaway options (including bring your own flagons).
Personal favourites: the 'Kingsland Pilsner', and the special release 'Copacabana Brut IPA'.
A.
Beer was really good, especially the Horopito and Kawakawa gose. Shame they couldn't do pints because of their license, but this isnt a reason to give them a lower rating
L.
This is my local brewery and I have been a regular since they opened about 18 months ago. The head brewer, Bruce, is extremely highly regarded in the industry and all of the beers are excellent. Urbanaut lagers are in a league of their own in New Zealand. I especially like their seasonal Brut IPA- Copacabana. The staff are all really friendly and knowledgeable.
They only have a license to sell samples (rather than pints) but the brewery is still a great place to relax with a couple of tasting paddles and a cheese board.
Very well priced cans to take away and they also fill flagons. Urbanaut contract brew for Yeastie Boys so you can sample their beers too.
I haven’t been on an official tour but know the staff who take them and am sure it would be a fun, informative time. Cheers!
I.
Hazy IPA
"Sweet and approachable with not a huge amount of fizz similar to my dad Bruce."
Copacabana Brut IPA
"I'm in a foreign land and no one speaks english. After a ceremonial welcome into the yurt they all pass around a bowl of dirty looking water that makes me choke a little trying to swallow it. They all laugh at me and pat me.on the back. That water was used to brew this beer."
Q.
Great beer and atmosphere. Should be a great summer hangout. Be advised that as of now their license only allows them to sell a tasting tray or takeaway beer. no problem, all the tasters were good!
R.
Friendly staff and cool venue but average beer. Their IPA had very little hop flavor, we all (8) felt it tasted thin. Tried 8 beers and 3 were ok but nothing was great.
D.
Super helpful customer service team, super speedy lockdown delivery and epically super, tasty brews!
Urbanaut for the win.
S.
Perfect place to come and do a tasting. Relaxed atmosphere and funky decor.
FYI: can only do tastings here as they don't have a full license, but tasting range is great and staff are knowledgeable and friendly
J.
It will take you a little while to take it all in. The sights, aromas and atmosphere. Expect to enjoy their beautiful craft beers and take away a sixer or very cool glass flagon. I love this place!
D.
This place is awesome...benches and couches to use whilest brewing it going on. Great vibe, some great beer as well. Everyone is super friendly! If you are looking for a fru fru bar/taproom, this is Not for you. If you are looking for a solid beer selection in a real brewery...you can't miss with this place.
A.
They have some of the best beers in Auckland, highly recommended.
They are quite innovative with their beers, also friendly staff, great environment.
K.
Awesome brewery, rad vibes and friendly staff.
N.
Take the tour. Love the place and the environment. Food is there on a rotating cast of purveyors.
T.
Amazing beer tastings and even better to have the hot dog food truck to serve lunch on Sunday. Was a very enjoyable afternoon, would highly recommend and will definitely be returning!
x.
Happy (with their) 1st anniversary beer! Very brut indeed, trying it at Flight Bar at 601 next door, only 50 metres or so if you need more than a taster like me...(and I have no association with flight bar either)
M.
Awesome place to go for a tasting and get some take aways. All the beers were great! Was nice and quiet mid afternoon mid week. Service was friendly and helpful.
T.
On point beer. But the indian food they had tonight was awesome. Think they were called Plan B.
H.
Fantastic service from the team at Urbanaut as usual. Simon and the team do outstanding work. Keep it up
B.
Awesome spot for a beer tasting with amazing toasted sandwiches available. The atmosphere is cool with an industrial feel while you sit amongst the brewing tanks.
Note due to the license you can only buy tasters or takeaway you can't just have a pint.
D.
It's not a bar, you can only order tasting paddles and some cheese and meats. You can get cans and bottles to go, but you can't drink them on the premises.
It's a cool space, full of furniture from the 70s. There's a table tennis table, and plenty to love about the beers on tap.
D.
Cool little spot. Should crank during the summer - food options could probably be better (although I didn't eat there) - the beers though are first class!!
A.
Fantastic selection of beers on tap, friendly staff. Dog friendly location woof woof
N.
Great to have this crew in the neighbourhood. Fantastic beers, fantastic guys. So good to be able to sample through their whole range!

Awesome beer

Good service by the staff, beer is excellent. I had the smash burger but it was very salty and the edges were burnt and crispy. Other in my party commented that there burgers were also salty. We did go late just before they were closing so maybe the kitchen was winding down for service.
Halloumi fries were very good.
C.
Great selection of locally brewed beers and now burgers too! Tried the veggie patty and it was delicious with the fries and secret sauce. Dogs also welcome.
